Exec fails with Japanese OS

I try to execute the command 'ipconfig' using java Runtime in Japan OS commandline.Output stream collapsed when i try to
run the code using jdk 1.6.x and 1.5.x versions.If i run the code using jdk1.3.x it works well.Did any one encounter this scenario,pls help me
to resolve this issue?

Hi,
I have also faced the above mentioned issue.The workaround of using Full Width unicode though resolves the alignment of Japanese with english/numbers/special characters.
There is other issues with this to mention a few:
(a) The text is still top aligned.
(b) A leading and trailing space is added to the value in the choice component when full width unicode value is used instead of english/number/special characters.
It would nice if the mentioned issues could be resolved or if a work around could be suggested.

  • Runtime.exec() with japanese arguments?

    I'm trying to invoke a C++ executable from java using the Runtime.exec() method. The C++ application accepts a filename as a command line argument & opens the file. This C++ app is unicode enabled i.e. it can accept UTF-16 (wide char) parameters. Howevere, when i invoke this application using Java's Runtime.exec() and specify a japanese file name as an argument, the japanese characters get converted to '?' characters by the time they are received in the C++ application. I'm running this application on Windows 2K, default i.e. English version.
    Looking at the source code of Runtime class, it seems that the exec()
    function makes use of a native helper function - execInternal(). Does
    this function support the entire unicode range?
    Is there any way we can avoid the conversion of japanese characters to '?' characters? Also, is there any other alternative for invoking an external application with Unicode (Say, japanese) arguments?
    Please reply ASAP.
    Thanks!

    I have a very similar problem. I am invoking cvs through Runtime.exec, and I am using it to add and check in files with chinese characters in the name, and it is failing with the following cvs error:
    Could not add resource file 纳出 in directory C:\test to repository: cvs add: nothing known about ??
    The error message comes from cvs, and I have been able to track it down to the call string I pass to exec. It is correct when passed in but the command fails. For laughs I tried to call something simpler, like mkdir:
    err mkdir ?? is: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
    It seems pretty clear to me that although the callstring is correct, the call to exec fails, and the special characters are replaced with questionmarks, which seems to me to be an encoding issue.
    Did you get any solution to your problem, or does anyoen else have an answer for this?

  • Runtime.exec() fails to run "javac" with "*.java" as arguments

    Hello,
    I am observing that Runtime.exec() consistently fails to execute "javac" when the Java files to be compiled are specified as "*.java". It fails with the following error:
    javac: file not found: /home/engine931/*.java
    Usage: javac <options> <source files>
    The same command used for Runtime.exec() runs fine from a the command shell. Is this is known problem with the Runtime class on UNIX, because it works fine on Windows.
    Any advise is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ranjit

    Your shell is expanding the command when you run javac from the shell. Try constructing your Runtime parameters so that your shell is executed, which then executes javac.
    The specific behavior is entirely dependent on the command interpreter that's used.

  • DAG - Backup failing on 1 DB only with error - The Microsoft Exchange Replication service VSS Writer instance ID failed with error code 80070020 when preparing for a backup of database 'DB012'

    Hi Board,
    i´ve search across the board, technet and symantec sites but did not found a hint about my problem.
    we drive a 2 node DAG (Location1-Ex1-mb1
    Location2-exc1-mb1), on SP2 RU4 patchlevel with 40 Databases.
    Since some time the backup of one - and only one DB - is failing with these events, logged on the Mailboxserver on which the passive DB is hosted.

    Symatec suggests within http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH184095
    to restart the MS Exchange Replication Service – BUT the mentioned eventID
    8229 isn´t present on any of the both Mailboxservers.
    The affected Database is active on Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server and in an overall healthy state. I found during my research, that below Location2-Exc1-Mb1 Server, there are not removed shadow copies present!
    This confuses me, since all Backups are normally taken from the passive copy of a Database.
    So my questions to the board are:
    * Does anyone is facing similar issues?
    * Can someone explain why snapshots are present on the Mailboxserver hosting the Active Database, whilst the errors are logged on the passive one?
    -          * Does someone know the conditions, why shadows copies remain and
    aren´t removed in a proper manner?
    What can cause the circumstance, that only 1 DB is facing such issues?
    Any suggestion is welcome!

    Hi Lenora,
    I´ve encreases VSS / Exchange Backup Log levels to expert, before starting
    those things i´ve all tried now:
    - Backup from passive DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from active DB (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from passive DB without GRT enabled (forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    - Backup from active DB without GRT enabled(forced within Symantec Backup Exec)
    All those attempts failed.
    But brought some more details - the backup against the active DB states, that there is still a backup in progress and therefore this backup is cancelled by VSS.
    The Solution was, that i´ve needed to restart the Exchange Replication Service on the Mailbox Server hosting the passive DB.
    Backups are working again on all DBs!
    THX for your replys.
    Best regards

  • Third party payload installer DistillrStarter.exe failed with exit code: 1603

    I need to reinstall FrameMaker 11 after a system crash. At 99% of the installation process, I get the following message.

    Hi Mylenium,
    from the notifications, IMHO, FrameMaker installation failed because of a corrupt DistillrStart.exe file in the installer.
    What I did not know, in the installation options, I could disable PDF maker.
    I do not need this module, that is already installed with Acrobat Pro on my system.
    In the support chat, I was not pointed to this, either. Although I asked if I really had to uninstall
    all Adobe software from my system before re-installing, even Acrobat...
    Thank God, my company's administration remembered this issue from a previous installation.
    Best regards,

  • Issue with Japanese characters in files/filenames in terminal.

    I recently downloaded a zip file with Japanese characters in the archive and in the files within the archive. The name of the archive is "【批量下载】パノプティコン労働歌 第一等.zip"
    The characters are properly displayed in firefox, chrome, and other applications, but in my terminal some of the characters appear corrupted. Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/4R22m0D.png
    Additionally, this leads to corruption of the files in the archive. When I try to extract the files, this is what happens:
    % unzip 【批量下载】パノプティコン労働歌 第一等.zip
    Archive: 【批量下载】パノプティコン労働歌 第一等.zip

    I'm not sure what could be the cause of this. I'm using uxterm with terminus as my main font and IPA gothic (a Japanese font) as my secondary font. I have a Japanese locale set up and have tried setting LANG=ja_JP.utf8 before, but the results never change.
    Also, this issue isn't just with this file. This happens with nearly all archives that have Japanese characters associated with it.
    Has anyone encountered this issue before or knows what might be wrong?

    Maybe 7zip or another tool has workarounds for broken file names, you could try that.
    Or you could try to go over the files in the zip archive one-by-one and write it to files out-1, out-2, ..., out-$n without concerning yourself with the file names. You could get file endings back via the mimetype.
    This script might work:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <zip.h>
    static const char *template = "./out-%04d.bin";
    int main(int argc, char**argv)
    int err = 0;
    zip_t *arc = zip_open((const char*)argv[1], ZIP_RDONLY, &err);
    if(arc == NULL)
    printf("Failed to open ZIP, error %d\n", err);
    return -1;
    zip_int64_t n = zip_get_num_entries(arc, 0);
    printf("%s: # of packed files: %d\n", argv[1], n);
    for(int i = 0; i < n; i++)
    zip_stat_t stat;
    zip_stat_index(arc, i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED, &stat);
    char buf[stat.size];
    char oname[sizeof(template)];
    zip_file_t *f = zip_fopen_index(arc, (zip_int64_t)i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED);
    zip_fread(f, (void*)&buf[0], stat.size);
    snprintf(&oname[0], sizeof(template), template, i);
    FILE *of = fopen(oname, "wb");
    fwrite(&buf[0], stat.size, 1, of);
    printf("%s: %s => %lu bytes\n", argv[1], oname, stat.size);
    zip_fclose(f);
    fclose(of);
    zip_close(arc);
    return 0;
    Compile with
    gcc -std=gnu99 -O3 -o unzip unzip.c -lzip
    and run as
    ./unzip $funnyzipfile
    You should get template-named, numbered output files in the current directory.

  • Runtime.exec() fails sometime to execute a command

    Hello,
    I have a program thats using Runtime.exec to execute some external programs sequence with some redirection operators.
    For e.g, I have some command as follows;
    1 - C:\bin\IBRSD.exe IBRSD -s
    2 - C:\bin\mcstat -n @punduk444:5000#mc -l c:\ | grep -i running | grep -v grep |wc -l
    3 - ping punduk444 | grep "100%" | wc -l
    ...etc.
    These command in sequence for a single run. The test program makes multiple such runs. So my problem is sometimes the runtime.exec() fails to execute some of the commands above (typically the 2nd one). The waitFor() returns error code (-1). That is if I loop these commands for say 30 runs then in some 1~4 runs the 2nd command fails to execute and return -1 error code.
    Can some one help me out to as why this is happening? Any help is appreciated

    Hi,
    Infact the command passed to the exec() is in the form of a batch file, which contains on of these commands. I can not put all commands in one batch file due to inherent nature of the program.
    But my main concern was that, why would it behave like this. If I run the same command for 30 times 1~3 times the same command can not be executed (returns with error code 1, on wiun2k pro) and rest times it works perfectly fine.
    Do you see any abnormality in the code.
    I ahve used the same sequence of code as in the article suggested by
    "masijade". i.e having threads to monitor the process and other threads to read and empty out the input and error streams so that the buffer does not get full.
    But I see here the problem is not of process getting hanged, I sense this because my waitFor() returns with error code as 1, had the process hanged it would not have returned , am I making sense?

    ~jaideep

    If you explain why you think this would work in the first place, maybe we can help you.

    You usually cannot mix -compat=4 and -compat=5 code in the same program. The C++ Migration Guide(search on docs.sun.com) that comes with the compiler explains the limitations.
    When building a C++ static (.a) library, you should use
    CC -xar
    instead of
    ar
    so that any required template instances get included in the library.
    The warning message about sb probably means that the -sb or -xsb option was not used consistently. Use it when compiling and when linking, or not at all. (You don't have to use it on all compilations, but you'll be missing some symbol data.)

    Hi Ronald,
    I need the external Job in the 10.2.0.4-Environment because of the Online-Upgrade of a 10.2.0.4-Database to 11.2.0.2 with STREAMS. I want to start the old export from a PL/SQL-Procedure.
    Now returning to my problem:
    First: Change the run user to oracle:oinstall $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/externaljob.ora
    # This configuration file is used by dbms_scheduler when executing external
    # (operating system) jobs. It contains the user and group to run external
    # jobs as. It must only be writable by the owner and must be owned by root.
    # If extjob is not setuid then the only allowable run_user
    # is the user Oracle runs as and the only allowable run_group is the group
    # Oracle runs as.
    #run_user = nobody
    #run_group = nobody
    run_user = oracle
    run_group = oinstallsecond:
    /EXPORT>cat scott_cmd
    #!/bin/sh
    ORACLE_SID=STB;export ORACLE_SID
    ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/OraHome_1;export ORACLE_HOME
    PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin:$PATH; export PATH
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib;export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    /u01/app/oracle/OraHome_1/bin/exp parfile=/EXPORT/scott.parand:
    BEGIN
      dbms_scheduler.create_job(job_name        => 'expjob_r',
                                job_type        => 'executable',
                                job_action      => '/EXPORT/scott_cmd',
                                enabled         => TRUE,
                                auto_drop       => FALSE);
    END;
    /The manual execution of export as user oracle/oinstall was unproblematic, But I still got the error when running the following procedure :
    SQL> exec dbms_scheduler.run_job('expjob_r');
    BEGIN dbms_scheduler.run_job('expjob_r'); END;

    TIA,

    Hi,
    If rdbms/admin/externaljob.ora exists (in 10.2.0.3 and up) then external jobs run as the user and group specified in this file which should be nobody by default.
    If it does not exist (in releases prior to 10.2.0.3) then external jobs run as the owner of bin/extjob which should be nobody by default.
    Because external jobs run as a lowly privileged user (nobody) by default, you need to make sure that this user can execute your script. Things to check for include
    1) Use full paths to all binaries or scripts in job_action or program_action as well as calls inside the script.
    2) Make sure all scripts start with #!/bin/sh or another command interpreter
    3) Make sure all scripts have the executable bit set and are executable by the user that external jobs run as
    4) Make sure that all required environment variables are set. External jobs by default do not have any environment variables set. For example, for an oracle import or export or sqlloader script you may need to set oracle_home, oracle_sid, ld_library_path and path environment variables in your script or source the required Oracle environment script.
    Hope this helps,
    Ravi.
