Executable Jar files with Oracle drivers and Oracle classes

I have a program which works perfectly that is used to do file
maintenace on an oracle table. Now I am ready to make this into
an executable jar file. I know how to do this, but my problem is
now how do I get the Oracle classes into my jar? I think they
are all in classes12.zip, but just adding classes12.zip into the
jar doesnt work. I still get an error when running the program
that says it can't find oracle.jdbc.drivers.oracledriver.
You can use the jar command to add all classes in a directory,
but this doesnt work either.
Has anyone out there ever done this? Please help if you know how
to do this. How do you put the oracle classes into you
executable jar file?
Wah!!!

Me again. I forgot to mention that I am only using Java. We
don't have Oracle forms or jdeveloper. This is just straight
java. Everything worked until I tried to executable jar creation.

  • Executable JAR file: Could not find the main class.

    Hello,
    I have a problem with making an executable JAR file.
    I have written a JAVA program that consists of five different classes of which User.java is the main class and I have saved a text document with Main-Class: User and a blank line after that.
    If I try:
    jar cmf MainClass.txt User.jar User.class Beheerder.class Operator.class Manager.class MaakVisueelSchema.class
    it makes a executable jar file which actually works! :)
    But when the Operator class trys to open the MaakVisueelSchema class the screen stays blank.
    I can run MaakVisueelSchema with java MaakVisueelSchema.
    So I tried to make an executable JAR that consists only of MaakVisueelSchema, the same way as I did for User:
    Main-Class: MaakVisueelSchema
    jar cmf MainClass.txt MaakVisueelSchema.jar MaakVisueelSchema.class
    Then I get the error message:
    Could not find the main class. Program will exit.
    from the Java Virtual Machine Launcher.
    The big difference between MaakVisueelSchema and the other classes is that MaakVisueelSchema contains a PaintComponent method and an ComponentListener. Is it possible that one of those creates the error?
    Can anyone help me with this problem?
    Thanks in advance!
    Bye!

    Yes,
    I tried:
    jar xvf MaakVisueelSchema.jar
    and it returns:
    META-INF/
    META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    MaakVisueelSchema.classN/G. You need to manually create a manifest file in a text editor, have it point to your main class, and enter it in your jar command as an argument.

  • Execute jar file: "could not find the main class" program will terminate

    Hey,
    I am new to Java. I have started to make a small java program which supposed to help me at my studies to lean the Dominic Memory System. I have used the latest version of Netbeans 5.5.1 to build my program in. I have two problems which I cannot figure out how to solve, please help me.
    The first problem is that the java script I have made works when I compile it in Netbeans, but when I create a Jar file it does not work. I receive a pop up message in windows ?could not find the main class program will terminate? when I execute the jar file.
    The second problem I have is that I need to compare the strings generated by the "numbers" and "TIP" and if the numbers is not identical the numbers in the ?Center? JPanel should be highlighted as red.
    If anyone would like to clean up the code I would be pleased. I have copied quite a lot from anyone because of my one lack of knowledge.

  • Question about Executable JAR Files

    Is it possible to make an executable JAR file that has all of the *.class files, all of the *.jar archives used, etc. packaged into one file that doesn't need these external files within the same directory? I've been having a ton of trouble finding the answer to this. (If it's blatantly obvious, please forgive me.)

    Hello,
    I went through the same thing recently. Here is a piece of the build file I use:
    <project name="MyProj" basedir="." default="main">
        <property name="src.dir"     value="src"/>
        <property name="build.dir"   value="build"/>
        <property name="classes.dir" value="${build.dir}/classes"/>
        <property name="jar.dir"     value="${build.dir}/jar"/>
        <property name="main-class"  value="MyProj.Main"/>
        <property name="lib.dir"     value="lib"/>
        <path id="classpath">
            <fileset dir="${lib.dir}" includes="**/*.jar"/>
        </path>
        <target name="compile">
            <mkdir dir="${classes.dir}"/>
            <javac srcdir="${src.dir}" destdir="${classes.dir}" classpathref="classpath"/>
        </target>
        <target name="jar" depends="compile">
            <mkdir dir="${jar.dir}"/>
            <jar destfile="${jar.dir}/${ant.project.name}.jar" basedir="${classes.dir}">
              <zipfileset src="lib/commons-codec-1.3.jar"/>
              <zipfileset src="lib/commons-fileupload-1.1.1.jar"/>
              <zipfileset src="lib/commons-httpclient-3.0.1.jar"/>
                <manifest>
                    <attribute name="Main-Class" value="${main-class}"/>
                </manifest>
            </jar>
        </target>
        <target name="main" depends="clean,run"/>
    </project>Note the <zipfileset> tags that contain the .jars.
    There are, however, many good reasons to not do this. Some were already mentioned, another is in the case of update external libraries, you might not want to rebuild your whole project, replacing a jar may be easier.
    Good luck,
    -Sam

  • Executable JAR sometimes could not find the main class.

    I have a little task, that seems to be trivial- but I have no idea how to solve the current problem.
    With a double click on my jar, a message comes up: JVM could not find the main class. Program will exit.
    The executable JAR is an export result from eclipse, with a manifest file that contains the right entry to the main class.
    But the curious thing is, that I have tested the little Swing-Application with 3 JRE versions: 1.4.2._06, 1.4.2_09 and 1.5 on Win2K and XP. Every time it works fine, but on one system it fails. (Normally it requires no external classpath settings, no path-entries to work.)
    The ugly system is Win XP with JRE 1.4.2_06 installed.
    Is there anybody with a good hint?
    Please let me know.
    Christiane

    OK, I ll try to explain it in other words:
    It is an executable jar file, with a manifest file that specifies the Main-Class. No other external files or jars or settings needed. Only a simple JDialog initialized from a parent JFrame.
    I d like to start it with a double click from the Win-Explorer, not from command line!
    As a result a dialog from "Java Virtual machine Launcher" displays
    "Could not find the main class. Programm will exit."
    My Problem is, I don t understand the launching process in depth. But I can reproduce the message with the following command:
    wrong:
    javaw -cp OrderAlertTest.jar OrderAlertParentDialog
    -> Error dialog appears
    correct:
    javaw -cp OrderAlertTest.jar apo.order.OrderAlertParentDialog
    -> OK
    Any idea?

  • Any kind of integration experience with Weblogic JMS and Oracle AQ?

    Hi,
    In my company I work with java developers who believe in some kind of "holly" database independence I don't understand and as a result my life as a database developer is hell on earth.. Yesterday we again started to discuss, this time where to log, they believe database is slow and prefer logging to filesystem, after some hours finally I could convince them for some operational and reporting needs to use the database and will do this in an asyncronous way whiich they won't get slow. After all I believe the reason for a database is data, this is the place where data lives, and with the correct desing and implementation logging to database would perform better.
    I love Oracle features, and know that we paid a lot for this software, so today I started investigating this promised solution. And quickly I found AQ and JMS topics in the documentation :)
    After this introduction here is my problem; my company use BEA Weblogic as application server and the java guys want AQ to automatically (but of course with some delay) take their JMS log requests into database tables. Does any one have similar application experience, or any kind of integration experience with Weblogic JMS and Oracle AQ?
    Any comments, references, documentation, sample code, url will be most welcomed :)
    Thank you very much!

    I wouldn't go as far to say Oracle AQ is out-dated today. However, it is indeed a proprietary technology that did not found much main-stream adoption in the earlier years after its introduction. The advent of JMS made it somewhat more useful (or should I say intriguing, because more people are trying to tie it together with other J2EE technologies), but the Oracle's JMS wrapper classes in aqapi.jar were not feature complete for a long while, so using it outside Oracle's application server was painful, if not impossible. I do agree that the info at the dev2dev's JMS newsgroup or in this forum is highly fragmented, as neither Oracle nor BEA provides an official solution to integrate AQ with WebLogic, so people like us have to learn the technology through experimentation and in a piecemeal fashion.
    3 years ago I was literally "playing around" - we had a polling mechanism set up to use triggers to write Oracle data changes into an event table, and had a Java-based daemon to scan that table and publish events as JMS messages to the WebLogic JMS server. This continues to work reliably till today, but I was looking for a solution that has few parts - I wanted to hook up my WebLogic MDB directly to AQ as a foreign JMS provider. Although I was able to get it to work (including XA), there were a few hoops I had to jump through, such as decompiling the Oracle AQjms classes to make them bind to the WebLogic JNDI tree.
    One year after that Diptanshu Parui took what I did a giant step further - he extended the Oracle AQjms classes to allow them to be bound to the WebLogic JNDI tree naturally, and he figured out how to use WebLogic JMS messging bridge to re-send single-threaded AQ JMS messages to clustered JMS queues, which allow concurrent message assumption by multiple instances of MDB's. My impression is that he is using that setup in a production environment.
    I am sure you are aware of it but I would like to make it clear - in order to use AQ as a foreign JMS provider to WebLogic-hosted MDB's, you don't need to update your database to Oracle 10g - Oracle 8i is good enough (although I recommend at least 9i Release 2). It is not the database engine, but rather the aqapi.jar JMS wrapper on top of AQ that matters. I do recommend that you use aqapi.jar from Oracle Application Server 10.0.3 or up for better XA support, among other things. Again, you don't have to replace WebLogic with Oracle AS - you only need a single jar file from it and put it in your WebLogic's classpath. However, I don't know what this means from a licensing point of view if you ever go to production - do you have to pay the full price of OracleAS or OC4J just to use the aqapi.jar?
    In the coming days I will test the latest aqapi.jar to see how much progress Oracle has made in terms of making their J2EE products more spec-compliant :-).
    Hope the above gives you a different perspective.

  • Executable JAR file and subdirectories, locale...

    Hi:
    I have created an executable jar file. In my program, I have to display an icon in which I stored in a subdirectory. This subdirectory is also archived into the jar file. However, as the application runs, it can't find the icon! I have to seperately create a subdirectory (with the same name and structure as the archived directory) for my program to display the icon properly! Does anybody know how I can use the archived subdirectory directly?
    Also, the executable jar file has a problem of using the proper locale... Does anyone know how to get around this?
    Thanx in advance for helping me out = )

    Thanx! It worked!
    Does anyone know the answer to my second problem, namely, using the correct locale to display characters? When I run the application on the unarchived class file it works fine. However, when I run the application double-clicking the executable jar file icon, the characters are displayed incorrectly, which I assume to be problem with the locale...

  • Executable jar files and manifest file

    Hi,
    I have the following files in a folder named: Test
    a.jar
    b.jar
    c.jar
    Driver.class
    Driver.mf
    Here, MainClass is the main executable class that uses a,band c.jar files. This is how my MainClass.mf file looks:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Main-Class: Driver
    Class-Path: a.jar b.jar c.jar
    Now I use the following command to make one executable jar file:
    jar cmf Driver.mf DriverMain.jar *
    It creates an executable jar file named : DriverMain.jar
    Now I copy the executable jar file (DriverMain.jar) into a different folder named: RunTest
    and double click it, doesn't work.
    my question is:
    what am I doing wrong? Any special characters needed in my Driver.mf file (space/newline/etc)?
    What I am trying to get is: One execuatble jar file so I can just double click to run it, and that single executable jar file will have all the necessary jars in it (i.e. a.jar, b.jar, c.jar in this case)
    Anyone please help!
    Thanks
    -Ron

    Rony,
    Sorry to disappoint, but you can not use embeded jar/zip files within an executable jar. The JDK sadly for some reason decided this was not a useful idea, so developers like me who want to distribute plugins with thier own dependencies have one of two choices. You either have to unzip the jar file that contains the embeded jars to a directory, then run your primary exectuable jar, OR you have to write a custom classloader that your "launcher" creates then loads the embeded jar files.
    The best thing to do is either jar up a, b, c and driver into one jar, so that it works, if you can legally do this. A lot of 3rd party libraries may not allow this per their license. Otherwise, another choice is to use a free installer or buy an installer that allows you to distribute a single exectuable installer program that will properly create the dir structure you need.
    As for the way it works, if you declare:
    Class-Path: a.jar b.jar c.jar
    the JAR loader code in the JDK looks in the root dir where your application was started for a/b/c jar files. They have to be on disk.
    If you want to place them in /lib, for example, you would havd a jar file like:
    Driver.class
    Driver.mf
    lib/a.jar
    lib/b.jar
    lib/c.jar
    When unzipped, your "root" dir would look exactly like the above, and your manifest would have Class-Path using ./lib/a.jar ./lib/b.jar ./lib/c.jar
    Anyway, there thus far isn't any way around this issue of embeding jar files in an executable jar file. You MIGHT be able to not specify any classpath, then in your Driver.class, create a new custom classloader that dervies from URLClassLoader, but in the findClass(), you get a ref to the .jar file that the classloader class is inside of, and from that use it to find the lib/*.jar files and add them to the classpath. For this to work, however, your Driver.class code should ALSO be contained in an embeded jar file that is loaded by this custom loader. The only thing Driver.class would contain (and I would rename it to something like Launcher) is the code to create the custom classloader.
    It's fun stuff, but a little bit of work to make it work. You can infact make it work! I may yet one day take our plugin engine custom loader and create a way for this to work!

  • Using the Auth pear package with php 4 and oracle

    Hi all.
    I was wondering if anybody out there has had any success (or else) using the Auth Pear package with php 4 and Oracle.
    I'm trying to do just that but can't get it to work.
    I've found lots of examples on the web for mysql but none for oracle...
    Feedback on your experiences with this would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rob

    Hi cj.
    Thanks for your advice. I came across those documents but discarded them as they didn't deal with the Auth pear package I was intending on using. I didn't want to look at other alternatives as the focus of my project was primarily on migrating existing data from a mysql setup to an oracle setup. And quickly.
    I hadn't found any documentation out there on using Auth with Oracle. All examples available on the web were mysql specific.
    I eventually got round to gutting the code from the package and finding the fix to my problem.
    Just for info, Auth expects by default an auth table containing two fields username and password. That's lowercase table and field names.
    If the table name or field names to be used differ from these then they must be explicitly defined when calling Auth. Doing so resolved my problem.
    My mysql db had all lowercase naming, while my oracle db has all uppercase naming throughout.
    It is important to note that the Auth package uses the table and field names quoted, thus referring to the table and fields in a case sensitive way.
    So for an uppercase table and fields setup the call has to be :
    $options = array(
        'dsn' => "$dsn_for_my_oracledb",
        'table' => 'AUTH',
        'usernamecol' => 'USERNAME',
        'passwordcol' => 'PASSWORD',
        'db_fields' => '*',
    $a = new Auth("DB", $options , "loginFunction");I hope this helps anybody trying to use this package with oracle. It worked great for me.

    i create an executable jar file and it seems ok except it fails to locate all of my image files.
    when i use
    java -jar myproject.jar
    it fails to display included pictures and files.
    however, when i extract this jar file and run, it works fine (displays everything).
    do i need to do add some informations about these included file's information into Manifest file?
    thank you

    thank you for the reply.
    i have searched through java, and find "class javax.commerce.cassette.JARCassetteLoader". is this one you referred? i have used file related examples from the java-swing samples.
    //post - return the file path
    protected static ImageIcon getImageIcon(String path)
    java.net.URL imgURL = TestDialog.class.getResource(path);
    if (imgURL != null)
    return new ImageIcon(imgURL, description);
    else
    System.out.println("Couldn't find file: " + path);
    return null;
    then i just use
    ImageIcon icon = getImageIcon("images"+File.separator+"simple.gif"); // images\simple.gif
    thank you
