Aix users security problem with remote brtools
I'm having a separate instance for my database and central instance. Both instances are running on AIX 5.3. From my understanding, the DB13 dbcheck and dbverify are done by executing brtools at database instance form central instance. This is done by remote shell execution ( rsh ) of <sid>adm at database instance.
My audit requires me to implements 3 logon failed and lock for my users. So when somebody intentionally or unintentionally do the 3 time logon fails, the <sid>adm at database instance will be locked. When this happen all jobs at DB13 will fail.
Is there any solution or work around for this issue? I really hope somebody can shed some light

If the brtools are configured properly (means, "saproot.sh <SID>" is executed in the kernel directory), the effective user executing the brtools is ora<SID>.

The only thing you can do is to monitor the user/operating system logs and react appropriately.

Yes, there should not be any problem in executing brtools with Java only stack.
Since you are on Redhad linux so the problem seems tricky. But still you can try the note mentioned by Orkun.
However, normally it is not recommended to use brtools with sidadm; orasid is the one which should be used and it is sufficient.
Thanks -

Audit friendly configuration of brtools on Windows
Good day
SAP note 832662 provides a good solution for accessing brtools without being sidadm or orasid user.
We require the same functionality on Windows. I.e. the user must be able to execute brtools functions, but must not otherwise have access to the database. If the user is part of Windows dba group, the user can anonymously access the database as sysdba, which is not good as it cannot be traced.
Please assist.
Thanks
WilhelmHi Wilhelm,
Hope you are doing good.
I am pretty sure this cannot be done unless a specific OS permission script /monitoring tool is employed. perhaps you can speak to the OS admins..
Thank you and have a nice day :).
Kind Regards,

Using "@" in a password for a DB User is not supported at all (allthough it works).
I did so myself once and I think it was possible to get a connection utilize quotes,
but I do not remember which ones in what way.
Could have been like
sqlplus "sapsr3/admin@1234"
but not very sure any more.
My be toy around with this, but more easy is to use brtools and change the
password to contain only valid oracle letters.
The problem with "@" is, that it delimits the SQLNET Connect identifier.

Oh, and for executing brtools, do not provide a user at all or only "-u /"
This should do a sysdba connect.

Many thanks,Hi,
Check the entries in SAPXPG_DBDEST_<dbserver> RFC (TCP/IP Type).
"Target Host" is having the value of host name or IP address of DBSERVER host ?
If the problem is with the entries of SAPXPG_DBDEST_<dbserver> RFC, then correct the same and Test the connection.
Then perform Checkdb or any required job from DB13.

Hello,
now this message is pretty obvious. So the needed information would be:
ls -ld /oracle/QAA/102_64/rdbms/admin
ls -ld /oracle/QAA/102_64/rdbms/admin/log
ls -ld brtools
id
and then compare if the user executing brtools has appropiate rights.
Most likely you did not run saproot.sh so brtools might not be set suid to oraqaa
and you are executing as qaaadm.
Best regards

Br*tools on external system
Hi people,
I´m following the steps from note 1025707 - DBA Cockpit: Planning calendar and remote Oracle databases to connect and external system for the administration and monitoring from dbacockpit. The external system is a java systema.
One of the prerequisites from 1025707 is In addition, at least BRTools 700 patch level 24 (Oracle client 10) or BRTools 640 patch level 42 (Oracle client 9) must be used on the external system.
How can i to install br*tools in the Java system?
More thanksHi Ruben,
You need to install standalone gateway instance first in order to execute DBA calendar process, remotely. Then, you can perform DBACOCKPIT configuration.
At the end of it, you will be able to execute brtools on Java host, by an ABAP based system.
Best regards,
