Execute Child packages parallel in loop

hi ,
I have a master package which calls the child packages from a folder dynamically, when i tried this with execute package task inside a for each loop container , it is only looping one child package which is connected in the execute package task connection.
Could any please suggest me a way to achieve this task. I want the parent package to read the 1st  child package , start and read next package, start and ....read last package, start.
Thanks in advance

Here is an example of calling child package within a loop, but downside is that they are executed sequential:
An alternative is to create the master package with
BIML (loop through folder and create an execute package task for each package):

    Hi,
I want to execute 5 packages using EXECUTE PACKAGE Task in FOR EACH LOOP Container. I followed the instructions as per the below link
    http://microsoft-ssis.blogspot.in/2013/01/master-child-packages-part-1-file-based.html
When I execute the main package it is going to folder where i have that 5 packages and picking up the first one then it is not completing the package keep on executing the same.
What i need to check here, kindly help me here.

Add a dummy execute sql task as first step inside loop and add a breakpoint to that for OnPreExecute event and check value of variable during each iteration to see if it gets value of each child package witin folder correctly.

  • Trying to Execute Catalog SSIS Package using Catalog stored proc by a Master SSIS package inside a Loop

    Hi Guys ,
To Execute Packages deployed in Catalog , I have created a wrapper SP  which internally calls  catalog SP  ( below is the code )
    ALTER PROCEDURE [Publish].[usp_ExecutePackages]
                  @PackageName NVARCHAR(255)
           ,      @ProjectFolder    NVARCHAR(255)
           ,      @ProjectName NVARCHAR(255)
    AS
    BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON;
    DECLARE @Execution_id BIGINT ;
    EXEC [SSISDB].[catalog].[create_execution] @package_name
    = @PackageName
    ,   @execution_id
    = @Execution_id OUTPUT
    ,   @folder_name
    = @ProjectFolder
    ,   @project_name
    = @ProjectName
    ,   @use32bitruntime=

    EXEC [SSISDB].[catalog].[set_execution_parameter_value]
    @execution_id,
    @object_type=50,
    @parameter_name=N'SYNCHRONIZED',
    @parameter_value=1
    EXEC [SSISDB].[catalog].[start_execution]            @Execution_id
Since i have multiple Packages , I am looping through list of PackageName and trying to pass package names to this SP by ExecureSQLTask inside ForLoop Container . But it errors out saying
"Cannot access the package or the package does not exist. Verify that the package exists and that the user has permissions to it.
BUt same Execute SQL task , if i keep it outside the ForLoop Container it works perfectly fine .
I am  clueless , Please Please HELP me ASAP :(
    Question :
How is that possible to execute same SP with same parameter outside Container , But not in SEQUENCE or FORLOOP or FOREACH Container ?
    Also
How to make a master package to execute SSIS deployed packages via TSQL using catalog stored proc ?
    Please help me out .
    Thanks
    Prasanna Selvaraju

    Hi ,
After debugging i am getting parameter values as
{Extract - ARTL.dtsx\r\n} Unable to evaluate the expression.
Why do i get  \r\n which i dont want in parameters .
Actually i pick the values of package name from a custom table . I check it there are no spaces in the cell.
Any IDEA WHY ? Please help
Finally it worked to call Wrapper Class for EXEC [SSISDB].[catalog].[create_execution]
    stored procedure .
Basically , ERROR MESSAGE is culprit
"Cannot access the package or the package does
not exist. Verify that the package exists and that the user has permissions to it.
Above Message : causing us to think
its an Access issue , But actually when you pass parameter incorrectly even a " " space or "\n" extra to value, you will get that error .
Nothing related to access problem .
Actually , In the parameter which i was passing :
{Extract - ARTL.dtsx\r\n} --> String with Enter / Carriage Return and Break line was there
I have removed the Enter in that variable value .
Now its WORKING FINE ! Hurry :D :)

  • Parent package shouldn't fail irrespective of that child package fails of success..

    Hi friends,
I have a small requirement here.
we have 10 child packages and one parent package. Calling the child packages from parent.
irrespective of that child package fails of success , parent package should pick the next package..
EX.. Parent package calling the 5th child package, due to some error it got failed. Now parent package shouldn't fail it will skip the 5th child package and  call the next 6th child package ...
if the child package success parent should have to call the next one..
if the child package fails parent package shouldn't fail and it calls the next child package..
How we can implement in this in ssis..

See how you can apply logic as discussed here
The key is to set propagate variable to false within OnError event handler
The logic would be like this with the only exception being you need to use execute package task inside loop

  • What is the best way to handle executing multiple packages from the Agent?

I have several packages that have to be executed in sequence. I thought the best way to do that was by creating a job for each package then have a master job that executes the other packages. In my master job,  I'm using sp_start_job to call the other
jobs. The problem is, the master job moves from step to step without waiting for the child jobs to finish; basically they all execute together.
That is the way I've seen it done in other places so I feel like I'm doing something wrong. In the alternative, I know it's possible to set the individual steps up so they execute the packages directly without calling an external job. I prefer the first
    way though.
Which way should I jump on this?

So basically what I'm hearing is just call the packages in a mulit step job. Creating a master package and calling child packages sounds a little crazy and unscaleable especially considering that the packages have master child relationships
within themselves. It's SSIS Package Inception.
Sorry whats the issue with that?
Provided you're setting the package sequence correctly based on your dependency it will work fine as loop gets iterated based on how you set the package list.
What we have is a audit and control mechanism which even have details on the dependency so based dependency set only the packages gets ordered and listed for the loop to iterate through and executing. Also tomorrow if a new package comes into being, all
it takes for us is to tweak the audit table to add a new entry for the package and set the dependency and it will continue to work fine including the new package without touching the existing job for any modification whatsoever.
Another advantage of this table is we also capture audit details in it like date when package got last executed, its status of execution, rows processed (insert, modified, deleted) etc which can be used for easy monitoring of the data processing tasks as well.

    Hi David,
While a random error is still an error it will be difficult for support to find a problem for an error which is not reproducible. It is always a faster resolution if you can determine how to provoke the error and provide those details. If we can reproduce an error on internal systems then we can fix the problem quickly and without having to access your system.

  • Error when execute a package from SQL Server Agent

    We have the next problem:
When we execute a package from a Job of SQL Server agent, it shows the success messege, but reviewing the results, the package didnt do all the tasks.
When we run it mannually by MSIS the package, it shows the success message and it works fine.
The workflow of the package is :
    1) Shrink the databases (executing a sql file)
    2) Backup the databases (Back up Database task of MSIS)
    3) Rename the files to .BAK extension (by the Foreach loop container and fyle system task)
    4) Execute command to compress the it (by a .bat)
    5) Move the compress file to another location  (by another Foreach loop)
Manually run correct, but when is a a SQL AGent Job that execute the package it does only the first 2 steps.

  • Error executing SSIS packages from Agent

    Hi All,
I designed SSIS package that loads data from Oracle table to SQl server table along with loading data into Diension and fact tables using SSIS packages only. First I created all SSIS packages that loads data into Staging tables from

When I execute SSIS package from BIDS data is loading up to Fact table. When I execute SSIS packages through Sql server agent ( Using File System Deployment)When I execute SSIS package from Sql server agent it is throwing an error message like

  • Error running child packages from parent package - Error 0xC0011008

    Hey...
I am running a parent SSIS package (running sp2, 9.0.3042) that calls several child packages.
On our development server, we now cannot run this because we get 1 or more of these errors:
"Error 0x80004003 while preparing to load the package. Invalid pointer  .  "
"Error 0xC0011008 while preparing to load the package. Error loading from XML. No further detailed error information can be specified for this problem because no Events object was passed where detailed error information can be stored.  .  "
It is not occuring on the same packages.  It varies every time it is run.
I can run every one of the child packages individually, using the same login ID that the parent is executed under.
The parent package works fine on my local machine and other servers running the same version of SSIS.  Just not on this server.
    Does anyone have any ideas???
    Thanks

  • How to create parallel tasks using parallel for loops

    Hi,
I am setting up a program that communicates with six logic controllers and has to read the system status every 100 ms. We are using OPC datasockets for this, and they appear a little slow.
I have created a uniform comm. method for all controllers, and now I find myself programming this method six times to communicate with each system. I am wondering if this could be done more elegant using the parallel for loop, in which case I would program an exchange once and then have six workers running simultaneously. Since a picture is more clear that a thousand words, what I am asking is this:
Is it possible to replace something like
    by
and have this for loop running these tasks in parallel (on different cores / in different threads)?
I have configured the loop to create 8 instances at compile, so I would have 2 instances surplus available at runtime if I find I need an additional system.
The benefits of the method show in the second picture to me are:
    * takes less space
    * modifications have to be made only once
    * less blocks, wires and stuff makes it more clear what's going on.
    * flexibility in the actual number of tasks running (8 instances available at runtime)
    * if more tasks are required, I need only to update the maximum number of instances and recompile, i.e. no cutting and pasting required.
Unfortunately, I don't have those system available yet, so there's no way to test this. Yet, I would like to know if the above works as I expect - unfortunately the labview help is not completely clear to me on this.
    Best regards,
    Frans
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear mfletcher,
First of all: thanks for confirming that my intuition was right in this case.
As for your question on the help: below is a copy/paste from the help on the 'configure parallelism dialog box'
Number of generated parallel loop instances—Determines the number of For Loop instances LabVIEW generates at compile time. The Number of generated parallel loop instances should equal the number of logical processors on which you expect the VI to execute. If you plan to distribute the VI to multiple computers, Number of generated parallel loop instances should equal the maximum number of logical processors you expect any of those computers to ever contain. Use the parallel instances terminal on the For Loop to specify how many of the generated instances to use at run time. If you wire a larger number to the parallel instances terminal than you specify in this dialog box, LabVIEW only executes as many loop instances as you specify here. The reason for me doubting if what I programmed would work the way I intended lies in the fact that the help only mentions processors here, which would be interpreted as actual cores. Thus on a dual core machine, the number should be 2.
I think it would be helpful to mention something about threads here, because in some case one would like to have more parallel threads than there are cores in a system.
In mu case I would like to create six threads, which on my dual core processor would be spread over only two cores. Then these six threads run in parallel.I know that in case of heavy math that would not help, but since I am doing communications, which have timeouts and such, and that probably runs smoother in six parallel tasks even though I only have two cores.
Hope this helps in improving the help of the for loop.
    Regards,
    Frans

  • Master package and Child Package

    Hi Experts,
While doing the configuration for connection managers in a package I had noticed that if I don't hard code or give some invalid the user id and password for the database, even though it is configured it is throwing error while opening.
Is it the right way of doing?
Also when I run the master package all associated child packages are opening in different windows. Is it normal?
    Please advice.
    Regards
    Mukejee

    Hi Mukejee,
Except for executing a SSIS package in BIDS, we can also execute a package using the following methods:
Execute SSIS Package using DTEXEC.EXE Command Line Utility
Execute SSIS Package using DTEXECUI.EXE Utility
Execute SSIS Package using SQL Server Agent Job
In each method, we can specify the package configurations for the package at runtime. For the detailed information, please see:

  • How to execute the package in odi

    hi
i have a 3 interfaces.i have to put it in package and execute this package.but problem is that it is executing in a infinite loop.
so how to execute these 3 interfaces serielly in package.(without in a loop)

If you want to execute your 3 interfaces one by one you just have to define a First Step (Right click "First Step")
And then to link the first interface with the second one with the Green arrow, and the 2nd one with the third with another green arrow...
If after that you link the 3rd with the first it will loop...
    So avoid this.

  • Master child Package Example package

    Hi Experts,
Can any of you guys please send some sample packages for master - child packages (dtsx files) which includes all configuration from an xml file to [email protected]?
XML conf --> Master --> Childs
I am new to SSIS and i just wanted to have a look at the options in those packages.
    Regards
    mukejee

    Hi Mukejee,
To setup the association between the parent package and child package, there are two approaches:
Through passing variables. Specify the child package for the Execute Package Task in the parent package, and then add a Parent package variable type configurations in the child package.
Through passing parameters. Specify the child package for the Execute Package Task in the parent package, and map the parent parameters and the child parameters. No additional actions are needed in the child package.
Besides, the XML Configurations for a package is not affected by the factor that whether it is a parent/child package of another package or not.
Here, I have created two SSIS 2012 packages with the parent-child relationship that you can download from my
SkyDrive. In the parent package, I create a variable VarMaster with the value “This is a parent package variable.” In the child package, I create a variable VarChild with the value “This is a child package variable”, and use a Script Task to display the
value of the VarChild variable. You can see that the Script Task returns different values when we run the parent package or run the child package.
