ExecuteWithParams query

I have a ExecuteWithParams Query with five parameters like following:
select f1,f2,f3,f4
from Atable
where (f1 = :qf1 or
f2 = :qf2 or
f3 = :qf3 or
f4 = :qf4) and
1 = :bdm
I have define the bindvariable :bdm default value is 0 and value type is 'Literal'.
in page, once user enters :qf1 or :qf2 or :qf3 or :qf4 and click the button 'search' the follwoing code will be run:
AttributeBinding clickBinding =
(AttributeBinding)getBindings().getControlBinding("bdm");
clickBinding.setInputValue(new Number (1));
OperationBinding ob = (OperationBinding)ADFUtils.findOperation("ExecuteWithParams");
ob.execute();
Problem, even I can see the :bdm is set to 1, but the query dignosed from log, still using :bdm = 0, can you expert point out why it is not changed to 1 in query? Thanks!

2. Post you EWP method action binding and executable bindings.
My Jdev version is 11.1.2.1.0 and using ADF BC
I can use the '1' , I have used the 'ab' = :bindDummy and then set it's default value equal to 'bc', but the same result.
My binding:

  • ExecuteWithParams - putting attribute values in PageFlowScope?

    I've a task flow that includes an ExecuteWithParams method call activity. Things are set up so it will always return no more than 1 row.
    What i need to do is put some of the attribute values in the row returned by the ExecuteWithParams in PageFlowScope params, as these values will be used later in the task flow.
    is there a way to have an ExecuteWithParams activity set such params based on the returned row? or is there some other way?
    I'm using 11g.
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for the response. I tried that, but only a null object results as the return value.
    To study what is going on, i defined the pageFlowScope params an object, and then debugged.
    Here's the method call activity definition:
    <method-call id="ExecuteWithParams">
          <method>#{bindings.ExecuteWithParams.execute}</method>
          <return-value id="__142">#{pageFlowScope.p_ExistingDetailsAttrVals}</return-value>
          <outcome id="__20">
            <fixed-outcome>ExecuteWithParams</fixed-outcome>
          </outcome>
        </method-call>Here's the task flow param definition:
    <input-parameter-definition id="__91">
          <name id="__90">p_ExistingDetailsAttrVals</name>
          <value>#{pageFlowScope.p_ExistingDetailsAttrVals}</value>
          <class>java.lang.Object</class>
        </input-parameter-definition>I debugged in a method in a PageFlowScope bean, but this merely returns a null object:
    Object o = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getPageFlowScope().get("p_ExistingDetailsAttrVals}");I know that the ExecuteWithParams query results are for one row, so this is not due to the query params not resulting in any query results.
    So, is there something I'm doing wrong?
    Sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but I could not find any significant documentation on ExecuteWithParams - for example, does ExecuteWithParams return anything, or is it merely executing a query a la RowSet.ExecuteQuery(). If it does return, what is the data type? etc.

  • Binding problem when using NVL function

    Hello.
    I have a problem with my ADF application (11.1.2.1).
    I use VO with a query (database view) - pivot table.
    If i use where clause like table.attr = :p_attr, everything works ok.
    If i use where clause like table.attr = NVL (:p_attr, table.attr) and put a value in :p_attr (executeWithParam) , query executes as if there is a null value.
    Debug console shows:
    Binding null of type 12 for "p_attr".
    Query with NVL works ok in sqldeveloper.
    But in jdev, as if the table attribute isn't bind to bind variable.
    If a just remove NVL function, it works.
    Any idea?
    Thanks.

    Hello.
    I enter 50 in p_depart parameter and click "ExecuteWithParams". Query is executed and shows records (pivot table).
    But if i look at the log window i see that an empty query was executed first.
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [427] Binding null of type 12 for "p_depart"
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [428] Binding null of type 12 for "p_job"
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [429] Binding null of type 12 for "p_hire_od"
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [430] Binding null of type 12 for "p_hire_do"
    Then, it is autoexecuted for the second time with parameter set to the value i inserted.
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [470] Binding param "p_depart": 50
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [471] Binding null of type 12 for "p_job"
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [472] Binding null of type 12 for "p_hire_od"
    <OracleSQLBuilderImpl> <bindParamValue> [473] Binding null of type 12 for "p_hire_do"
    The same happens in our query. But ours is much more complex and it takes a lot of time to first execute "empty" query and then with inserted parameter.
    We cannot use it.
    It looks like bug.

  • Repeated rows resulting from executeWithParams on query with bind variable

    hi
    Please consider this example application created using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/RepeatedRowsIssueApp-v0.01.zip
    It has a View Object "EmployeesVO" based on a SQL query with a bind variable "EmailBVar".
    The page "findEmployees.jspx" has executeWithParams dropped as an "ADF Parameter Form..." and the "EmployeesVOVI" collection as a table.
    On "EmployeesVOVIIterator" the RangeSize has been modified from the default 25 to 10.
    So, all straightforward stuff.
    A scenario (sc1), running the page "findEmployees.jspx", specifying a value and clicking the "ExecuteWithParams" button results in repeated rows shown in the table, that is the first row (and subsequent rows) are repeated at row 11 (and subsequent rows),
    as can be seen in the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/bn9QvV0qt
    question:
    - (q1) How can the repeated rows in scenario (sc1) be explained/avoided?
    many thanks
    Jan Vervecken

    Thanks for your reply Nick Haralabidis.
    it can be avoided by setting the EmployeesVO Access Mode to Range Paging and setting the Range Size to 10. Indeed, that does seem to avoid the repeating rows.
    Now why you get this behavior when you don't specify Range Paging on the VO I don't know. It could be because: 1) it is a bug - the obvious answer ;) , 2) because setting the RangeSize on the EmployeesVOVIIterator without setting the Access Mode on the EmployeesVO to Range Paging is conflicting - but then again there is no warning or error produced by JDeveloper, 3) ...It does look like unintended behaviour, for a "default approach" like this.
    In documentation section "39.1.5 Efficiently Scrolling Through Large Result Sets Using Range Paging " ...
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/b31974/bcadvvo.htm#ADFFD1179
    ... this Range Paging for a View Object seems to be described as an optimization, not as a requirement for functionally correct behaviour.
    - about (q1)
    Another approach that seems to avoid the repeated rows in scenario (sc1) is removing the value for the RangeSize attribute on the iterator, so the RangeSize is not specified.
    Using the modified example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2010/RepeatedRowsIssueApp-v0.02.zip
    ... this can be seen in scenario (sc2) in the screencast at http://screencast.com/t/0bpCo33i8J
    Although, the documentation in section "22.4.2.2 Iterator RangeSize Attribute " ...
    at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/web.1111/b31974/web_form.htm#ADFFD706
    ... does not seem to mention anything about not specifying the RangeSize attribute, it does say "... You can set it to -1 to have the full record set returned. ...".
    As can be seen in scenario (sc2) the EL expression #{bindings.EmployeesVOVIIterator.rangeSize} resolves to -1 which suggests that not specifying the RangeSize attribute is the same as configuring the RangeSize attribute to -1.
    questions:
    - (q2) What is the preferred way to avoid having "the full record set returned", without having repeated rows as in scenario (sc1)?
    - (q3) Is the default configuration of RangeSize="25" on the iterator intended behaviour (for an interator supporting an executeWithParams action)?
    regards
    Jan

  • Using ExecuteWithParams and getting a null pointer error

    I'm new to Webcenter and have a question about using ExecuteWithParams. I want to know if anyone experienced a null pointer exception when using it. I was using the example from the followng page to create a parameter form to filter an adf table.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/muench/screencasts/threesearchpages/threesearchforms_partthree.html?_template=/ocom/technology/content/print
    I created the named bind variable in the View Object editor, changed the query and dragged the ExecuteWithParams Operation onto my page. However, when I go to run the page I get the following error:

  • How to change the view criteria at run time for af:query

    Hi,
    I've a usecase where I need to change the view criteria of the af:query at run time.
    Use case:
    =======
    1) Consider a check box (Show Emps Under Dept 10) in the query panel when user selects and clicks 'Search' button should show the employees under dept 10. If user searches without selecting the check box, the results should show all the employees in all the departments.
    2) I need to have a check box always in the query panel. Its mandatory.
    The way I implemented:
    ==============
    1) Created a transient variable 'Show Emps Under Dept 10' in the EmployeeVO and also created a bind variable bind_DeptNo.
    2) Create a view criteria 'AllEmployees' which has only the transient attribute as the view criteria item and whose value set to 'false' by default.
    3) Created another view criteria 'EmpUnderDept' which has 'DepartmentId' as the view criteria item and whose value set to the bind variable 'bind_DeptNo'.
    4) Dropped the view criteria 'EmpUnderDept' as the 'af:query' panel in the jspx page.
    5) Overridden the queryListener as '#{EmpBean.empSearch}'
    6) Has the below code in the empSearch method as below. When user selects the check box, applying the other criteria 'EmpUnderDept' and setting the bind variable to '10'.
    public void empSearch(QueryEvent queryEvent) {
    // Add event code here...
    QueryDescriptor queryDesc = (QueryDescriptor) queryEvent.getDescriptor();
    ConjunctionCriterion conCrit = queryDesc.getConjunctionCriterion();
    List<Criterion> criterionList = conCrit.getCriterionList();
    List criterionValues = new ArrayList();
    Object criteriaValue = null;
    int criteriaNo = 0;
    DCBindingContainer bc = (DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    for (Criterion criterion : criterionList) {
    AttributeDescriptor attrDescriptor = ((AttributeCriterion)criterion).getAttribute();
    System.out.println("============== attrDescriptor.getName() =================== " + attrDescriptor.getName());
    criteriaValue = ((AttributeCriterion)criterion).getValues().get(0);
    if(criteriaNo==0) {
    Boolean val = (Boolean) ((AttributeCriterion)criterion).getValues().get(0);
    if (val.equals(true)) {
    OperationBinding method = (OperationBinding) ADFUtil.findOperation("ExecuteWithParams");
    if(method!=null) {
    Map params = method.getParamsMap();
    //params.put(key, value)
    method.getParamsMap().put("bind_DeptId", 10L);
    method.execute();
    ADFUtil.invokeMethodExpression( "#{bindings.EmpUnderDeptCriteiaQuery.processQuery}", queryEvent);
    } else {
    //ADFUtil.invokeEL("#{bindings.ExecuteWithParams.execute}");
    ADFUtil.invokeMethodExpression( "#{bindings.AllEmployeesCriteriaQuery.processQuery}", queryEvent);
    But this approach is not working and its always showing all the employees in all the departments.
    Please let me know if there is a way to change the view criteria at run time depending on the values set at run time for one of the view criteria items.
    JDev version am using is '11.1.1.5'
    Thanks,
    Lakshman

    Hi Shay,
    It worked for me without overriding the executeQuery() method in the ViewImpl.java.
    Instead of creating 2 view criteria, I created only one which has both transient variable and the DepartmentId = <bind_DeptId>. With the above code, it worked properly. Now I am using only one view criteria.
    Thank you.

  • ExecuteWithParams is not returning the rows from cache

    Hi,
    We have two VO's based on same entity ,whenever new row is inserted in one VO and we do executeWithParams on another VO ,It is not returning the rows which are uncommitted.
    I replaced the executeWithParams with a custom method in AM in which I am executing the query after applying the view criteria and setting query mode.Its returning rows which are uncommitted.
    Jdev Version which I am using is 11.1.1.7.0
    ExecuteWithParams used to work with uncommitted data in 11.1.1.6.0 .
    Do we need to raise a bug on framework or Am I missing something?

    Still the same answer, even after you updated the question. We (the public) don't have 11.1.1.7, know nothing about 11.1.1.7, and cannot help you with 11.1.1.7. Questions about internal builds belong on internal forums.

  • Passing an argument in the SQL Query of a View Object

    Hi,
    It is possible that this question has been asked before, however I have searched for a half an hour in the forums and couldn't find a solution.
    I am also new to using JDeveloper and ADF. Here's the situation:
    I am developing an application that doesn't have to do anything else then displaying data from a database. Pretty straightforward actually.
    Now I have made a vew pages with several collapsible panels (af:showDetailHeader) and have setup the datasources (or so I thought).
    All that remains is:
    - drag & drop a view object, from the application module that I created, onto the collabsible panels, so a child element gets created which displays data from the database.
    - hack the layout so it looks like I want it to.
    The problem that I have is the following:
    I am using a 'User'-class that contains values I need when quering the database.
    That User-object is part of a user-session.
    What I want, for example, is to use the 'getPersonId()' function of that User-object and pass the argument to a SQL-query of a certain view-object.
    The query would become something like:
    'SELECT * FROM people WHERE people.personId = :someNumber'.
    Now I've read some stuff about variable binding, which is complemented by something like (backing bean code):
    getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().getACertainViewObject().setWhereClauseParameter(1, user.getPersonId());
    The examples I have found that might match my wishes are not using business components, but EJB's. I am having difficulty with understanding the 'how'-part of variable binding.
    Also, I do not know enough of ADF to be able to create a situation like:
    'User loads page, collapsible panel 1 is fully shown, the others are undisclosed.'
    (meaning, that for panel1 a query has been executed.)
    'User clicks on collapsible panel 2 which triggers a backingbean that somehow retrieves data from a view object'.
    I would appreciate any help that somebody can give.
    If it is not too much of a problem, please provide code snippets in case you have a solution. I am new to ADF :(.
    -edit
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 in case that is of any importance.

    Hello Stijn,
    I didn't think about a referenced bean rule in the faces-config.
    I added it right away and I am now able to set parameters of a View-object, not using a page button and before the page loads. You made my day!
    In case anyone ever reads this post again, the summary of how to generate a table based on a View-object using dynamic parameters.:
    1a: Go to faces-config.xml -> Overview tab'
    1b: Go to the menuitem "Referenced Beans"
    1c: Click on 'new' and select the existing bean you want to access data from and input a name. In this example I use name="user"
    2: Create a View-object using the wizard.
    2a: Specify the query you want in the menuitem 'SQL Statement'.
    Add the 'parameters' you want to. You will have something like:
    "SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE :someArgument".
    - hint: if you want the result to become something like:
    "SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE '%someArgument%'" then you have to add the '%'-characters in your code itself (read: someClass.setParameter("%" + someArgument);).
    2b: In the menuitem 'Bind Variables' you have to add the variables you are referring to in the query. If you look at the query in 2a, then you have to add a variable with name "someArgument".
    2c: Add the View-object to a Application Module (create one if nessecairy).
    3a: Open a .jsp(x) file. Drag the View-object created in step 2 from the 'Data Controls'-pane to the page.
    3b: Click on the '+' of the View-object in the 'Data Controls'-pane and open 'Operations' and drag 'ExecuteWithParams' to your page as a button.
    3c: We do not want to use a button, the action has to be executed immediatly. So In the page source remove the lines that were created after dropping 'ExecuteWithParams'.
    3d: Right-click on the page and select "Go to Page Definition".
    3e: Go to the action id that is called 'ExecuteWithParams#', where # is a number.
    Change the id to something useful.
    3f: Change the NDValue so it corresponds with the value you want.
    Example:
    <action id="getAddressData" IterBinding="AddressesView1Iterator"
    InstanceName="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl.AddressView1"
    DataControl="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="95">
    <NamedData NDName="someArgument" NDType="java.lang.String"
    NDValue="#{user.personId}"/>
    </action>
    Note: It is possible to use the value of a Backing Bean in NDValue.
    Note 2: user is the bean I referred to in the faces-config.xml!
    3g: Under the executables item, add an 'invokeAction' to pass the parameter to the View-object before your JSP-file loads:
    <executables>
    <invokeAction Binds="getAddressData"
    id="loadAddressDataOfPersonIdInSession"
    Refresh="prepareModel"/>
    Thank Stijn Haus for this :)

  • Query Search Panel not displaying search items in 11g on Windows 7 x64

    I have defined a view object with two bind variables in a query criteria.
    when I drag the query criteria onto a page - I get the panel with the search box - but the message says "no search items have been added".
    I went back and ran through the steps with the SR Demo - same results.
    I have tried redoing the search, using the default "all query items", query with table, and always the same results.
    If I do a query form - I get everything - but i really need the "nice" query table to work.
    Anyone else having this problem - or know of a solution.
    I have redone the cue card step many times - I can put the base object (view) on the page and it works fine.
    Edited by: rogerappl on Jun 30, 2010 12:49 PM

    OK, this may seem foolish, how do I drag and drop the ExecuteWithParams - this will need to be in the Datacontrol - I presume - I am using 11gR3 (11.1.1.3).
    I cannot even find documentation on this.
    You are correct - I created the bind variables when I defined the where clause - so I suspect this may be the reason.
    I would have thought that this would be automated - since it is pretty useless without it. There were no hints of this in the demo either.

  • ExecuteWithParams with URL parameter doesn't work

    Hi!
    There are a lot of posts about executing VO with parameters, but I'm still stuck on it. I have a VO with WHERE condition like this:
    WHERE TABLE.ID = :IdParm
    I want this binded variable to get populated in jspx page by parameter in URL. I've created a binding for ExecuteWithParams in my pageDef like this:
    <action IterBinding="MyViewGIterator" id="ExecuteWithParams"
    InstanceName="AppModuleDataControl.MyViewG"
    DataControl="AppModuleDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true"
    Action="95">
    <NamedData NDName="IdParm" NDValue="${param.IdParm}"
    NDType="java.lang.String"/>
    </action>
    and an executable on this:
    <invokeAction Binds="ExecuteWithParams" id="callExecuteWithParams"
    Refresh="ifNeeded"/>
    so the executables in my pageDef look like this:
    <executables>
    <iterator id="MyViewGIterator" RangeSize="10"
    Binds="MyViewG" DataControl="AppModuleDataControl"/>
    <variableIterator id="variables">
    <variable Name="parameterURL" Type="String"
    DefaultValue="${param.IdParm}"/>
    </variableIterator>
    <invokeAction Binds="ExecuteWithParams" id="callExecuteWithParams"
    Refresh="ifNeeded"/>
    </executables>
    I have a variableIterator that is binded on outputText control on my jspx just to test if parameter gets read correctly and it does.
    What am I doing wrong that query doesn't execute correctly and I don't have any data on my page? I've also tried with refresh condition "Always" but it doesn't help.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
    do the following:
    - In the pageDef file (Executable section), create a "Parameter". The name of this parameter is up to you.
    - the value of this parameter point to #{param.IdParm}
    - In the ExecuteWithParam OperationBinding, select the agument item and select the NDVaue. Open the ExpressionLanguage editor and select the Parameter you just created

  • Can't create an ExecuteWithParams activity in a bounded task flow

    I'm trying to replicate the application in the demo, Passing Parameters to a TaskFlow on the URL - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cklxe1qq5I
    I created a ViewObject named PagerByLastName which has an iterator with the generated name, PagerByLastName1Iterator
    (in Data Controls, a node is created for PagerByLastName , named PagerByLastName1
    PagerByLastName1 has query with a parameter and binding variable for the parameter.
    Next, I created a bound task flow and tried to drop an ExecuteWithParams from within PagerByLastName1 onto the bounded task flow.
    However, in the Edit Action Binding dialog that opens, the Data Collection section is read-only and I'm unable to select a data collection to create
    the ExecuteWithParams activity.
    A warning message appears as I try to drop ExecuteWithParams -
    "WARNING: IteratorNameNotFound--AppModuleDataControl1.PagerByLastName1"
    However, the iterator name should be PagerByLastName1Iterator
    Known issue? Is there any workaround?

    The ViewObject does have both a query and bind variable defined for the parameter in the query.
    The query is
    select BEEPER, FIRST_NAME, MIDDLE_NAME, LAST_NAME, OUN from PERSON_ALL_V4 where ( ( ( UPPER(LAST_NAME) LIKE UPPER('%' || :lastname) ) OR ( :lastname IS NULL ) ) ) and cyber_status='Active'

  • ADF how can i execute a query with parameters when the page renders

    hi
    i am using ADF web 11g
    i need to execute a query with parameters when the page renders
    thanks

    hello,
    I'm a fan of Java code, I really am.
    But when you use ADF, you decided to move to a more declarative environment.
    So why not do it declarative, the adf way?
    In your pagedef insert a action binding.
    This can be anything, a call to the application module, a call on the iterator(Like executeWithparams, etc.)
    Create an invokeAction in your pagedef and set the condition.
    This example refreshes(Action 2 is execute query) the data.
    First the method binding:
        <action IterBinding="PersoonIterator" id="Execute" InstanceName="LSAppModuleDataControl.Persoon"
                DataControl="LSAppModuleDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="2"/>And the invoke action
        <invokeAction Binds="Execute" id="refreshData"/>This always refreshes the data on page entry, but anything is possible, you can set condictions for the invokeAction.
    -Anton
    PS Yes I know that pagedefs become backing beans in the end and yes that is Java code, but if you wanna play the ADF way, the goal is the reduction of Java code and the increased performance of declarative programming.

  • [SOLVED]ADF BC/JSF-how to execute a "ExecuteWithParams" from a b.-bean?

    Hello everyone. I am new to ADF BC/JSF web apps. and I have a situation where I have a form that inserts a record into the DB, the page has a backing bean attached to it and the "create" button on the form is attached to a method called "grabarButton_action()" on the backing bean... here I do some validation first and then I commit the changes.... until this moment everything works fine but the thing is that after the insert takes place I need to query and get the new row I just inserted in the DB to get a value from a column that gets inserted using a trigger on the DB.
    I have been trying to do this unsuccessfully, I created a ViewObject with bind variables to try to execute the query using the "executeWithParams" action but I dont know exactly how to send the values to the action and get the results from it...
    Can anybody point me in the right direction or give me some code examples here please???!!!
    Thanks.

    DragonV,
    Why not just mark the attribute in your EO as "refresh after insert" and/or "refresh after update?" These are there to support attributes that are populated by a trigger.
    Hope this helps,

  • Java.lang.NullPointerExecption error with ExecuteWithParam data control

    Hello,
    my application has a database connexion ; with the wizards, I made a Businness Components from Tables ; after that, I've changed the querry of my one and only View (btw, there are 4 entity objects). I put on a view criteria with a bind variable and the query in the xml file view is like this :
    SELECT CRAH.JOURINPUT,
    CRAH.CODEPROJET,
    CRAH.CODEANA,
    CRAH.DUREE,
    CRAH.DESCRIPTION,
    CRAH.IDUSER
    FROM CRAH CRAH
    WHERE Iduser=:VarIduser
    In my jsf page, I've dragged and dropped the ExecuteWithParams data control (in the same view as above) as an ADF Parameter form. I finally create an ADF table by dragging'n'dropping this very same view's datacontrol.
    The problem is when I run, it works!!! but after like 2 click on the execute with parameter button, I get a java.lang.NullPointerExecption for every attribute in the table.
    Could anybody gets me a piece of advice on this ? The thing is it works when I test with the Application Module. What's the problem here ?

    Hello.
    Well, even with a simple EO/VO for a single table, one view criteria and its bind variable, I get the same error. It still works in the AM test run. I get this error message in the embedded OC4J log :
    08/07/09 09:19:20 [757] **** refreshControl() for BindingContainer :oracle_jbo_uicli_binding_JUFormBinding_140

    So, do you think I did something wrong with the data control ? Because the problems core seems to be here. The thing is that they are automaticly created... so is there something else to do ?

  • Pass parameter from jsf to view object query

    Hi,
    i have requirement where user id is captured when user logs in in a session bean.How do I pass this parameter to bind variable in query?
    thanks,
    Mat

    Amit's second link : Setting bind variable for a view object
    should hold answers for you.
    Ypu can also visit : http://groundside.com/blog/DuncanMills.php?title=adf_executing_code_on_page_entry_1_servi&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
    The general idea is this :
    Get the username (you mentioned portal, so after portal authenticates the user is the username available in a session scoped managed bean ? You would need to access this somehow because your query needs it., preferrably by EL)
    create am AM method to set the bind parameter to the Vo and execute it. The method is automatically exposed to the DataControl.
    Create a method binding in your page def for the method. in the parameters for the method, use the EL to get the username, eg: #{sessionScope.frameworkBean.username} (you could also create a binding for executeWithParams, but I hav'nt done this in a while and dont remember the exact process )
    Now create an executable for the method binding you created. (the executable ensure that this method is called at pageload, and set you refresh condition appropriately)
    Go to the properties
