Expanded EXIF info in iPhoto '11- like which camera setting was used, manual or automatic?

didn't iphoto '09 indicate what setting the camera was on in the EXIF information? iphoto '11 seems kind of skimpy. Am I mssing something or should I use different software?

Thank you Terence. I'm learning to use my DSLR camera using manual settings. I take the same photo in automatic, then in different manual settings, adjusting shutter, sperture and ISO. Before I downloaded iPhoto '11 and Lion OS X, 10.7.3, I could see all EXIF information with the inclusion of whether the camera was set on manual or automatic. If you're sure iPhoto never provided this, maybe I was using Picasa or something else. I'm pretty much an iPhoto user, tho.

  • Problem transferring white balance Exif info from iPhoto to Aperture

I originally posted this question on the Aperture discussions page, but it was suggested to me that maybe I should try asking it on the iPhoto page as well.
I want to transfer my iPhoto library over to Aperture, but am reluctant to do so until I have familiarised myself with the new program. (I have over 23,000 photos in iPhoto.)
As a start, I have imported a few of my recent photos from iPhoto so that I can find my way around Aperture. One thing puzzles me. I can see the white balance information for each photo in iPhoto but the white balance field is greyed out in the Aperture metadata, and there is no 'cloud' or 'sun' picture at the top right of the Info panel, even though the white balance field is ticked in the Metadata Fields panels for Exif Info and Camera Info. I really need to know which camera setting I used for each photo to help me learn how to take better photos, but as far as I can see the information is not available to me anywhere in Aperture.
I have performed Aperture Library First Aid (repaired permissions and database, and rebuilt database) but the problem still exists. At the suggestion of someone on the Aperture page I have also created a new Aperture library and then imported some original photos from iPhoto which I exported to the desktop and then into the new Aperture library. I had the same problem, with no white balance information showing. That's when I was advised to try the iPhoto discussions page as well!
Does anyone have any ideas for me please?

Well, Terence, it duly showed up the white balance data when I shot a Raw photo. But I don't understand why Aperture recognises white balance for Raw but won't show it for Jpegs, whereas iPhoto recognises both.

  • HT5037 I have installed the iPhoto Library upgrade, which confirms it was successfully installed, however when ever I try to open iPhoto 11, it refers me back to the bloody library upgrade again, so I can't use iPhoto any more.

Thanks, it worked first time that  I double clicked as you suggested.
Why do Apple make it so hard to upgrade some programs?  They could make the follow through instructions a lot clearer.
Now I have it open-  it works and.....................  it does look pretty neat.

how can i see which Apple ID was used to download an app, cause i cant remember, thanx

    Hi maikeru1,
If you have your apps synced to iTunes, you can use a similar process to that outlined in the following article (the Get Info command) to show what Apple ID it was purchased under:

  • HT5622 Which Apple ID was used  to download an App?

HI, there is an app on my iMac that requires an update, App Store reminds me "all the time"!!!
Problem is I don't recall which Apple id was used to download it, and it won't let me update it as I get a msg to "sign in with aplle id used to download this app".
(I even think I may have downloaded this App on my old iMac...)
This app in particular is Smart Converter, an app to convert media files for use on different media, like iphone, ipad, imac, apple tv, etc...
Can't I just delete the App and download it again using my current Apple Id?
Thank you for any help with this.

OK I finally was able to delete it...had to do a restart to finlaize deletion, but the app was gone after. And have re-installed it with my current apple id.
    Thanks.

Anthony, thank you very much - this works, though I thought I had tried your process previously without success. I've tried so many things who knows. I've had zero luck going with the Send to Compressor or Export Using Compressor Settings under the Share menu. I'm also finding Compressor 4 to be a real dog on my system even though I have a brand new quad core machine with 8G of RAM. Prior to receiving your post I did come up with a different work process. Using Export Movie from FCP X and then loading the result in Compressor 3 works flawlessly. Thanks again!

  • Is there any way to know which Apple ID was used to activat

My father activated my iPad mini about two years ago.
I recently restored it after updating it to iOS 8.0.2
After restoring, it is asking for the Apple ID that was used to activate the device.
Unfortunately my father can't remember the Apple ID he used to activate the iPad mini.
I was wondering if there was any way i can know which apple ID was used so i can access my iPad somehow.
Or if there is any other way possible to activate my device. PLEASE let me know.

Click here and use Apple's iForgot service, or if needed, contact their Account Security team.
If both methods fail and you or he is the original owner, take the device and its original purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store.

Your payment details are tied to your iTunes account - so any device and/or computer that your account is logged in on can potentially buy content from your account. They shouldn't be able to see your full credit card number if they log into your account to view the account.
But on the first purchase from a device/computer you/they should be asked for the answers to your security questions : About Apple ID security questions
Or, if using it instead of security questions, will be prompted for your 2-step verification : Frequently asked questions about two-step verification for Apple ID.

  • How can I find out which iTunes account was used to make a purchase?

Without really understanding how iTunes and Apple IDs worked, I created a US iTunes account on my MacBook Air as some of the content I wanted wasn't available in the Australian iTunes store.  So I had two iTunes accounts on the one device and I just switched between one account and the other.  But eventually I ran into problems with the whole 35 Day and 90 Day restrictions when trying to change between one and the other.  So now I'm going to use two separate devices to manage the two accounts, but I want to be able to remove everything I bought from the US iTunes account from my MacBook Air and keep only the stuff I bought from the Australian store.  Is it possible to find out which account was used to buy a particular song/video/TV programme?

Select the tune and then - Get Info - in the dialog box is a note of the Apple ID used to purchase.

  • Which import setting to use for numbering?

I know that my question is probably addressed in the Aperture manual, but I do not understand it well enough and so am asking for help.  I am going on a four week trip during which I will be using two cameras often on the same day.  At the end of each day I want to import all of my photos to Aperture into one project.  I want the photos in the project to be arranged and numbered sequentially according to the date and time taken, irrespective of which camera was used.  Each subsequent day I will do the same thing, all photos going into the one project.  I will "attach" the same custom name (e.g. Europe) to all images, but want the sequential numbering as I stated.  Thank you!

As Léonie said, there are good reasons why someone would want descriptive filenames. Another reason is that metadata is, unfortunately, not 100% reliable. It can "drop off" under certain circumstances such as transferring between computers, opening/saving them in different applications, sending through email, etc. I have many files (including photos) with the wrong creation date in the metadata.
The only reason NOT to rename your master files is that the "don't import duplicates" won't work as it relies on filenames. So if you don't import your entire card, then erase it, you might end up imporing duplicates. But that's another topic.
To get back to the OP's question, if I understand you correctly you want:
    1. All your photographs to be sorted by date/time in Aperture.
    2. All your filenames to be descriptive.
    3. All your filenames to be sequential.
To get number 1, you don't need to do anything other than set the date/time in all cameras the same. Aperture will use the metadata to sort them sequentially by date/time irrespective of the filenames.
To get number 2, just rename on import (or later as batch) to whatever you want.
To get number 3 is the harder one. If you want the filenames sequential by date/time taken, and you don't want long filenames as I described above, you could store your photographs in a folder outside of Aperture and then import them all after the trip is finished, renaming on import. Or you could do a batch rename after you have them all in. Either way, you'll have to wait until you finish the trip to do it so you can do them all in one go.
Alternatively, you could import at the end of each day and remember the sequence number you left it at the day before and put that into Aperture when you import the next day. It will work, but it requires you to remember to do it. I know I would screw it up. If you're more disciplined than I am you could try it that way. But you don't import directly from the cameras, you have to drop them into a folder on your Mac first.
So the process would be, at the end of each day:
    1. Create a temp folder on your Mac to put your photos into.
    2. Copy all photos from Camera 1 into the temp folder.
    3. Copy all photos from Camera 2 into the temp folder.
    4. (Optional) Copy all photos from your phone into the temp folder. Don't use PhotoStream to get related photos from iPhone/iPad. Copy them manually with Image Capture.
    5. Open Aperture and import the entire day's shoot in one go. In "Rename Files" choose "Custom name with Counter" for Version Name (create one if it doesn't exist) and the first day click on the little arrow next to it. This will reset the counter to zero. Give it the name you want (e.g. Europe) and tick Rename Original File.
The next day do the same. If you haven't imported anything else since, the counter will continue where it left off. You can check (and change) by clicking on the Version Name option and choosing Edit in the drop down. You'll see "Incrementing coutner starting at...". Just ensure that's the next number from the last day's import.
As I said, Aperture will remember the number, so unless you've imported something else, this should work fine.
Let me know if it doesn't make sense.

  • I deleted iPhoto and iMovie which came with my system , how do i reinstall it without paying for the app

    Hi,
I have a mac book pro retina, i had iPhoto and iMovie app with the OS while purchase. the iPhoto and iMovie updates were using my old apple-id and i wasnt able to update my app due to that, so i deleted those apps and wanted to reinstall that. so my new apple-id would be picked up.
but i didnt realize these were paid apps. ouch. so is there a way i can restore these apps ?
    thanks
    shankar

Have you tried signing in with your old Apple ID? All software obtained at the app store is tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it forever. If you start with a new Apple ID, then you will need to purchase it again.
FWIW, please do not post duplicate posts - it gets too confusing.

  • How to determine which fallback bundle was used?

    Hello,
I have built a component that uses singleton factory classes to cache localized objects in that same factory. In the end the singleton factory either builds a new one or pulls from cache. The cached objects can be cached by keys like myObjectEN or myObjectENUS. If I use user locale to create these keys fallback situations are not handled properly. Example:
1.) I am only providing a _en bundle.
2.) A user who's locale is en generates an object twith en translations that us cached by key myObjectEN.
3.) A user who's locale is en_US falls back to en & generates an object with en translations that is cached by key myObjectENUS if I use the users locale, which isn't correct.
This results in the same object with english translations being cached twice by two different keys. I need my key to be drived from the resource bundle being used, and not the users locale, to cover fallback situations. Is there any way to do this?
    Thanks!

The wdController.getApplication method doesn't exist, but if found that this did work:
    wdComponentAPI.getApplication().getName()

  • How to tell which Connection Key was used?

Is there a way from within Contribute to identify the key
that a user's connection was created with?
I sent three Connection keys with separate ftp
usernames/passwords to three separate users. Now one user is having
problems uploading images to the web site using Contribute and I
want to identify which connection key they are using so that I can
troubleshoot the problem based on the ftp username/password that is
associated with that Connection key. They can't remember if they
    used another user's key.

When a key doesn't work as expected I just send another one
and tell the user to delete it after the connection is
    established.

  • Shooting video for DVD. Which camera setting?

I'm shooting a video with a HD only camera (Canon XF300). I was wondering what were the best settings for the camera, since I'll be burning a DVD for my client. I'm thinking 1280 X 720 at 30p. Does this make any difference at the end? Should I shoot at 60i instead?
    Thanks for the help.

It shouldn't make any noticeable difference what you shoot but it's always best to do a quick test.
Shoot a couple of minutes of similar footage at both settings, capture it, add a few transitions and burn to DVD.
The whole exercise will take well under 30 minutes and will show you exactly what to expect.
