Export indesign document to pdf white strokes around text

Hello there, I have this problem, I am exporting an indesign document to interactive pdf, and the problem seams to appear, when I open the created pdf in adobe reader x, it shows some of the text with white outlines, and the text looks very thick. When previewed in indesign, it looks perfect, text looks crisp. I also opened the pdf document with apples preview, and in preview it looks fine! But in adobe reader it looks horible, I tried adobe readers on other computers, and they all show up with the outline. What causes this anoying issue? plase help, thanks

We'd have to see the file to know for sure, but this sounds like a transparency flattening issue. Thickened text is indicative of it being converted to outlines, whcih can happen when it interacts with transparency. It's not clear if your white lines are around theindividual glyphs, or around the entire areas. The latter is also a common flattenign artifact called "stitching" that shows up on screen and in low resoution printing.
The first bit of advice is to keep your text at the top of the stacking order, above transparency, shadows, and other effects. It sometimes helps to have a top layer just for text. The way to eliminate these artifacts 100% of the time is to not flatten transparency at all, which is possible in Print PDFs, but alas, not in Interactive.

  • Application to export InDesign document to pdf or image

    Hello,
We are developing a java web-app and the user (among other things) download an InDesign file from the server, edit it, and upload it again, but we need a way to show, inside our web-app, a preview of the file, and also we need our application to be able to send that preview to the printer, inside a form.
So I wish to know if is there some application to convert InDesign files to pdf or some image format, like jpg, png, etc., that we could call from our web-app, throught the command line.
    Thanks.

  • Exporting Indesign document into PDF

I have a worklow of 410 pages 13"x13" made entirely of photos. The work is in progress but I want to make a presentation of what has been done so far. I opted for exporting to PDF only screen and web visible and that worked fine. But when I tried to export the full version as if for pre-press, the exporting loaded the 410 pages and then collapsed saying, this document cannot be exporting to PDF.
What could be the problem? the extent of the work? the size of the file? missing links? wrong settings? Thanks for your help.

Probably file size and memory (or lack there of). Your machine has to load all the data for each picture, maybe re-res it to the PDF setting you specify, save the file. ID might need to have access to several GB of memory.
I'd suggest breaking it into maybe 100 page chunks. I bet each PDF file will still be nearly 100mb each! You could use Acrobat to combine them into one PDF file. But talk with your printer, they might be able to easily work with a couple smaller files for you. A 400mb PDF is pretty large (not impossible, just unusual).

  • Export InDesign Document to PDF-Clipped Error

When I export an InDesign file to Interactive PDF, I get the following message.
I've tried everything I can think of. What is the resolution?
    Brooke ...

The only answer is to not clip the interactive elements, and to always have them on the top layer. That's how the files will end up anyway. Because, as the message says-- the PDF format cannot reproduce what you did in an interactive file.

  • White box around text in pdf

Hi. In InDesign CS3, Photoshop 7.0 & of course Acrobat 7.0
I made a Photoshop PDF & brought it into InDesign to export it into a PDF so I can make crop marks.
The PDF in Acrobat & InDesign both had a white box around some of the text. I had embedded the fonts in Photoshop, so I do not understand why that happened. I went back into Photoshop & just retyped over where the box was appearing & this had solved the problem after I repdfed & imported it into ID. Acrobat viewed the text perfect then.
I want to prevent this from happening in the future, does anyone know what I can do to look out for things like this?

Very sorry--that's certainly information I should have included. I have Adobe  Acrobat 9 Standard, version 9.3.3. I'm creating the PDFs from within Microsoft  Word 2007 via the Acrobat tab on the ribbon, clicking "Create PDF."

  • Why does the gradient disappear when I export my document to PDF?

I have used gradient tool on simple black lines to make them fade out as they reach the edge of the document. When I export the document to PDF the lines are simply black, no gradient whatsoever. I'm a beginner at this. I'm putting together something for a wedding, and really need to fix this pronto! HELP!

Version of InDesign? OS? Print or Export to PDF and settings used?
What sort of gradient did you apply? Some screen shots of the line in ID and the PDF would help.

  • Automator Workflow to export Numbers documents in PDF format

Does anyone know of any automator workflow to export Numbers documents in PDF format? I tried this program: Convert to PDF 1.2
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/converttopdf_mauriziominelli.htm l
    But it gives an error.

    Reading carefully is often useful.
The description of the tool which you tried clearly states :
    *About Convert to PDF*
*_Convert all of your text files to PDF_. This action uses the underlying cups printing system ability to convert files, it’s a simple front end to the command line tool cupsfilter.*
As far as I know, but maybe you don't, *_a Numbers document isn't a text file._*
I already posted a script exporting Numbers documents as PDF.
Here is an enhanced version which apply only to Numbers '09 (or maybe higher) :
    --[SCRIPT save2Numbers&PDF.app]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : save2Numbers&PDF.scpt
déplacer le fichier créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    +++++++
    Save the script
    as a Script: save2Numbers&PDF.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Numbers:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Numbers and even the folder Applications by yourself.
go to the Scripts Menu, choose Numbers, then choose save2Numbers&PDF
The script saves the document in the native Numbers format and saves it in a .pdf file
If such a .pdf already exists, it is renamed with a stamp matching its modification date.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox

  • HOW TO EXPORT INDESIGN DOCUMENT TO RTF DOCUMENT?

I don't have any basic idea about, how to export indesign document to RTF document?,pls help me ...

I don't think you can, because in the UI you can only export to RTF (which is the closest to MS Word). Look into story commands.
If you want to write an entire new plugin that takes an ID document (rather than a single story) and exports it to Word, you'll have to iterate over each of the page items (and/or stories, etc.) in your document and write them out in a format that Word would understand.

  • InDesign adding a white stroke around element in .EPS file after export

I am trying to place an .EPS file over another image file (background is not white).  It does not matter in which manner I place, copy or insert the file.  Upon export to high quality .pdf (both interactive and print), there appears to be a while halo or stroke around one element in the .EPS file.  The .EPS file is a logo with a blue box and writing next to it.  The writing is fine, but the blue box has the stroke… so it is not the entire file element.  Very strange.  I have never seen this before and someone else testing the file does not have the same issue.  Any thoughts?

A screen shot would be helpful....

  • Indesign CS2 Crashes when I try to export a document as pdf

I'm using Indesign CS2 on a G5 using OS X version 10.4.11. As i try to export my document indesign completely crashes after I click the 'export' button in the pdf options window. I've tried saving using different pdf options and different document types but it still happens?

Does your document contain any EPS files..? If so try re-saving them. InDesign can work with native photoshop & illustrator files.
Failing that check your fonts as there may be a corrupt one lurking about...

  • Difficulty exporting InDesign file to PDF

I am an InDesign newbie, using CS4 on a Mac. I have inherited a 16-pg InDesign document that was created by a graphic designer from his home (also using a Mac); he is no longer with our company and is not available for advice. We are trying to replace fonts he used in the document, plus some links are missing. The designer turned over most of his files before leaving but did not package the documents.
The problem: There are several instances in the document where a layered graphic element (with text on top) overprints when the file is exported to PDF, covering the copy. (I've tried all variants of PDF - from high quality to small - and it does it every time). When I check the file in InDesign, it looks OK, until I click the Overprint Preview command; then I see the way the image bleeds over onto the text, but I don't know how to tell it not to do this! I'm new to InDesign and am not sure how to change settings for elements. I have tried to click on this layered element to select it & find out its attributes and properties, but nothing happens when I click. I have been able to change the font for the top text layer, but that doesn't make any difference in the PDF export problem.
The designer created another 16-pg document similar to the one with the problem in it, using a very similar graphic element. (These docs are two versions of a sales kit -- one with prices, one without.) For some reason, this document does NOT overprint when exported to PDF. So far, I haven't been able to figure out what settings are different in this document.
I don't know if the layered image was created in Illustrator, which the designer used to create some of his graphics. I do have access to Illustrator and also am attempting to learn this program so possibly could make some fixes if need be. I have Photoshop but not Acrobat.
    Thanks for any help!
    Lorna

I don't fully understand your problem but I'd like to help.
By Shift-Command-Click, I think you are referring to selecting underlying objects. I'm on a mac, for me it's command control click. At any rate it's not related to locked objects, it's a method of selecting an object when other objects are stacked on top.
Possibly your text is on a locked layer. Window: Layers - check to see if any of your layers have a padlock icon.
Also it could be on a master page. View: Show Frame Edges. Master page elements will have dotted outlines, they can be edited on the master page.
Regarding images - there are two possible selections to make. One is the container, the other is the content. To select one or the other, Object: Select: Container or Content. There are also little icons in the control bar that allow you to do this.
With containers, you can select the bounding box, or you can manipulate the anchors. If you select the object with the Selection Tool (dark arrow) you get the bounding box. If you then switch to the Direct Selection tool (hollow point) you can change the anchor points. To be clear - if you select the box with the direct selection tool to start with, you will select the contents (if there are any), not the container.
With InDesign, a container object is one of 4 things - a text box, a graphic box, an unassigned box, or a mask for other containers. Sometimes it is hard to tell what you have. Learn to distinguish text boxes from other types by looking for the small white boxes in upper left and lower right when you select them.

  • Export InDesign file to pdf problem

I layout a weekly publication which contains photos. The positions are set, so each week I just drop a new photo into the set positions. Hundreds of these work every week, but once in awhile I get one that replaces the old photo in InDesign, but when I export it out to a pdf, it reverts to the previous photo, which obviously causes a little issue.
Any ideas on why this happens and what to do differently? Thanks,

I use Acrobat Professional for this along with InDesign. I believe it's the only way to do this.Export your document as a PDF. In the export dialog box check, "Create Acrobat Layers" under options. You need to set the compatibility of your PDF as "Acrobat 6 (PDF 1.5)" or higher in the upper right-hand corner.  Open the PDF in Acrobat. On the left you'll want to click on the layers icon. Opening up the layers you'll see the names of the layers exported from your InDesign file. Right clicking or control clicking on a Mac will open up the properties dialog box. The layer properties dialog box will allow you to set a number of states for the layers in PDF. You can even designate a layer to never show but always print. And, set the layer that shows to never print. Once you you set the properties for each layer save the document and you're done
