Export speed
Hello,
we are trying to export a content server, according to SAP note 962019. First we are trying with a QA-system. There is not much load on it, DB size is about 200GB.
What makes me worry is the speed of about 2GB/h, or about 155GB since Friday. Is this expected behaviour, or should it be much faster?
DB is on local disks, DB version is 7.5.0, on Win 32bit.
loadercli is running on a remote system, version 7.6.03, on Win 64 bit.
command x_cons <SID> show active is showing one process, in status 'IO Wait (R)'

I am doing some MP3 file exporting of multi-track projects today with STP3. The export speed is VERY SLOW. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and STP3. Never had this problem with Leopard and STP2. My disk is only half full, the speed of the processor is the same, yet this is taking WAY TOO LONG! Any suggestions on speeding up the process with Snow and STP3?

What hardware helps for optimum export speed?
I'm about to purchase a new laptop, and since I'm often on location, processing and exporting large numbers of processed files in a hurry, I'm wondering what hardware is most helpful. Obviously I'm going to get the fastest CPU possible, and a fast hard drive, but what about RAM? Does the RAM speed make much difference in import, process or export times?
Also, I'm considering a model that has 2 internal hard drives. Would LR export speed be improved by exporting to a second internal drive?. And if so, and one of those drives is an SSD, should that be the primary or secondary drive?
TIA, Steve.OP here. Thanks for the responses. Thanks especially to Ian Lyons for posting the link to the Optimizing Adobe Lightroom article ( http://macperformanceguide.com/Optimizing-Lightroom.html ). Among other things, the article suggested that export speed could be increased by dividing a large operation into several smaller ones, to best utilize multiple cores and hyperthreading. I decided to run a few tests:
First, I exported 300 files in two simultaneous operations of 150 files each, to two different internal drives on my home computer ( CPU is a 4-year-old Pentium 940 EE 2.4 Ghz dual core with hyperthreading). Then I exported the same 300 files in a single operation. The split export took 5 ½ minutes, vs 11 minutes for the single export.
I know: It’s already a flawed test, because I had introduced an additional variable by exporting to two separate drives in the first test. Since the times that I’m most in a hurry are when I’m on location using a laptop, that test wasn’t of much use, as laptops (with few exceptions) have only one internal drive.
So today, I did a few more export tests, all from and to the C drive:
300 files exported in a single operation: 12.5 minutes
The same 300 files exported in two groups of 150, simultaneous operations: 10 minutes
The same 300 files, this time exported in three groups of 100: 7 minutes
Interesting result, as the article had led me to expect possibly slower results on test #3, due to increased overhead. However, file caching could be skewing the (later) results.
So next, I tried a similar export test in reverse order with different (smaller) files
250 files divided roughly into three groups, processed simultaneously: 4.5 minutes
Same 250 files processed in a single operation: 7 minutes
There still may be some skewing due to file caching, and due to using different files for the two sets of tests. However, it seems clear that for my purposes at least, exporting large quantities of files in several simultaneous operations saves a significant amount of time vs a single large export. Also, the initial test (as compared to subsequent tests) does seem to indicate somewhat faster export when using two drives.
BTW, no resizing involved, apart from the occasional cropped image. -
Final Cut Pro X Export Speed Problems
I'm having problems getting any real processor speed out of my Final Cut Pro X exports. Whether I do a direct native Pro Res export straight from FCPX or send to compressor with the same settings, or even change them to H.264 or something else, i more often get processing that looks like the included picture, barely one processor being tapped. Sometimes ill get 50 percent which is probably all direct export is meant to use, seems like Qmaster distributed processing still doesn't work here. Once i get the file out and then bring that into Compressor 4 I get no issues, can get 50 percent with regular submit and full speed all cores running with Quickcluster submit. Any ideas why this is happening?
Just to be clear, these are native ProRes HQ clips, no effects, nothing, just selects I'm trying output, and since we can't do reference clips anymore, well....TThe most common cause of this problem is that the media hasn't been imported properly and is still referencing a camera card or archive. If you press Cmd-E and no dialog appears, this can be one cause.
BTw, this is primarily a user to user forum, so no one here really cares if you go and use Premiere. -
Export Speed Slow or is it just me??
could you guys tell me your experience with exporting images. I am exporting as Tiff's. for example a wedding in which I have made collections by files, average group is 100-175 images.
Should it take me allllllll day???
Are we able to export more than one collection at a time. Which I have done, but It renders my computer useless for ANY other operations??
I read about the Lightroom vs the type/speed of computer and upgrading doesn't sound like the answer.
love to hear back your experience
thank you
SherryOn a P4 2.8GHz single-core machine, exporting takes about 12 seconds per image or so (5 per minute) for 12.8MP RAW images from a Canon 5D.

Improve QuickTime export speed?
I am wondering how can I improve QuickTime speed when exporting an .avi movie to ipod format.
When I use a regular ipod exporter on a pc ( 1.8Ghz), I takes aprox. the same time with doing it on my MacBook Pro, 2.16 dual-core.
I mean, is QuickTime really optimized to take advantage of the dual-core processor when exporting?
And what can I do to make it export faster?
Thanks,
LDon't use the "Export to iPod" preset.
Use MPEG Streamclip (free) or a dozens other software titles that don't use the preset "two-pass" method to create your .m4v file. -
I'm exporting a sequence that is 40 minutes in length and took about 1 hour in the previous PR release. It's been running for 3 hours and is only at 47%. The CPU's are 100% and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014.0 is using 98%, which I've never seen before during an export.

Message was edited by: Jim SimonI didn't know that AME has a separate setting for Video Rendering and thought from what I just read in another post that it used the PR settings. My previous post related only to PR.
When I set AME to use Mercury Playback Engine GPU... it had a popup that my card wasn't supported. I have now learned that there is a cuda_supported_cards.txt file in the Program Files -> Adobe -> Adobe Media Encoder (CC and 2014) folders. So my exports from PR were using the CUDA card and the AME's were not. -
I'm having an issue with exporting GIFs in photoshop CC which I did not have with previous photoshop versions.
I'm using an imported video at 20FPS (so, timeline delay 0.05s). It looks fine in the "save for web" window and while previewing in the timeline, but after it is saved the GIF plays back too fast, both on my computer and after uploading it online (imgur, gfycat, etc). I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Can somebody help?
Thanks! The gif file is dependent on the browser for the fps. So a slow computer & Bogged down browser = low fps, top of the line computer with a latest browser freshly installed = high fps.
So that means you can not rely on the fps in photoshop when exporting to gif.
AVI, MOV and SWF would be more accurate for fps. -
Encoding is extremely slow (Export speed Slow)
Hi All,
I have just signed up to CC for video editing. I have been previously using a friends computer that has CS5 full suite. It has been great. Very fast and easy.
Decided to purchase a new powerful 6 core i7 computer and signed up for the new CC software - premier Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder and Photoshop. All installed fine
I film and edit my sons soccer games. A typical 90min soccer game would take around an hour to export an 1080p25 MP4 file on my friends computer. Would also take similar time for 720p version.
I just did my first edit in CC and set up export for 1080p25 and 720p25.
What shocked me is the estimated time for encode is over twelve hours!!! What has happened. How can this be? Some times the coach wants copies but this time frame to wait is crazy.
How do I fix this slow encode time and bring them back to a more realistic 1 hour ish?

Help with export speed - First time poster - please be gentle!!
Hi all,
Currently an i5 win 7 with 4gig ram (work PC!!!)
Using Ppro 8.1.0 (81)
As a company we have upgraded from CS6 to CC in the last month
I have played around an everything is looks fine, but I have a 40 second video containing 4 After Effect comps fully rendered sitting on my Ppro timeline. I go to export and choose h2.264 720p 25 as I would have done in CS6 and the estimated file size is 48meg, So I'm thinking that will be a quick render.
At the moment the estimated time reads 2 hours and 7 mins and is climbing!!
What am I doing wrong? I usually export to this setting and a 4 min video on the same machine using CS6 used to take about 45 mins
Thanks in advance, I have looked through the forums, but don't know much about the ins and outs of hardware acceleration or even know where to find it!!

How to speed up export in our screencasting application
Hi there,
We've built a small cocoa app that captures screen activity and turns it into quicktime movies. We're encoding the videos via quicktime using h.264 and this process takes around 3-4 times the length of the recording. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions about how we could increase encoding/export speeds?
Oh, and if you happen to know any great freelance Mac encoding experts, I'd love to hear from them.Hi there,

Does exporting DV using "Match Sequence Settings"
I am capturing VHS and Hi8 home video using a Canopus ADVC-300 and Premiere Pro CS6. The output is DV, about 14GB/hour. Most of the captures are unattended (have a 4 TB disk, backed up of course, but space is not a big concern right now). I'd like to get everything imported before starting any serious editing, so I capture each tape twice: the first time, the video itself; then I rewind, turn the timestamp indicator overlay on, and capture again with the camera running at 2x speed. That way I can quickly find when a particular segment of a tape was recorded without winding the tape around in the camera, looking for the scene and the time isn't overlaid over the image.
I have two questions:
1) Since the captures are unattended, I need to trim the blue screen off the end of each captured files to save disk space. I'd like to confirm that if I trim a sequence and export with "Match Sequence Settings" set, that Premiere will not re-encode the DV except for the parts that I actually changed (I sometimes use dip to black around damaged segment of tape). Based on the export speed, I don't think it's recompressing and the quality looks the same but I'd like to double-check.
Does Premiere Pro CS6 always mark the timeline with the colored bar if processing is required? The "dip to black" parts get a yellow bar, but the rest has no bar. That would be a clue.
Also, the export dialog has "Use Maximum Render Quality" unchecked by default. I check it -- does it matter?
2) What is the best way to permanently associate a date/time with the captured video? I didn't see any way to bake it into the DV for each segment. I'm using comments in sequence markers, set at the start of each clip, but the sequence markers don't move if I ripple-delete, say 10 seconds of noise in the middle of a track. I can't figure out how to get markers attached to the video track instead of to the sequence. I found some videos that say how to do this, but they don't seem to apply to CS6. I found that if I export the sequence, the markers then do get backed into the DV. But I need them not to move if I ripple-edit. Is that possible?
3) My plan is to add a 3 or 5 second overlay title to the beginning of each segment saying what it is and when it was captured, but only for the final export. Is there a trick that I could use to create a title from a marker? This is not a big deal, but seems like a useful feature.
Sorry if the answer to these questions are obvious -- thanks for your patience. Thanks for replying. The reason I want to re-export the captured DV is because I capture unattended, and don't know how much video there is on a 2 hour Hi8 tape or VHS tape.
I could find out by fast-forwarding through the tape and stopping, but it's more efficient to just capture the entire tape and then trim the end off the tape and re-export. I'm planning on archiving the raw DV capture, and 1-1/2 hours will fit on a 25GB BluRay disk. Two hours won't.
Thanks for the tip about the project panel. I never scrolled it to the right far enough to see the "description" or "log note" field. Hopefully those notes will wind up in the metadata of the DV .AVI file, but even if it doesn't, I'm planning on archiving the Premiere Pro project file with the DV .AVI file.
The copy/paste from marker to title is what I'm doing now. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something easier.
So... does anyone know if Premiere Pro will pass-through the original DV if I re-export after making minor edits? -
Why does InDesign CS4 crash when exporting to PDF?
I have a 72 page document and when I export to PDF, it gets to the end and crashes. I can export to pdf in 10 page chunks successfully, but with 30 or more pages it crashes. Could it be temporary file or memory problem. Appreciate any help as I am new to InDesign and need to get this document to print soon.
This may be of no help to KodiKodi, but it may be of assistance to someone else trying to export large files to PDF.
I was attempting to export a large CS4 document (800 pages, 200 MB) on a G5 iMac (2.5 GB RAM), to a 3GB single-page PDF file. The export worked in one go.
Then, for a particular reason, I placed the entire PDF back into a new InDesign document which turned into a 800-page, 400 MB file, double the original size even though it was really the same file but in a different format. I exported that single-page InDesign file to PDF using the spread format, but it wouldn't export in one pass. Wouldn't do it two passes either. I noticed as the export progressed it got slower and slower. The export started at the rate of about 1 page every two seconds, but by about the 400 page mark was down to 1 page every 10 seconds or longer, but would never come to anything.
So, I tried exporting as 100 page chunks (2-99, 100-199 ...). Took about 2 minutes for the first 100 pages, but I noticed the export rate was slowing down. The second hundred pages took significantly longer than 2 minutes. I found I could get back the export speed if I closed the file after the first hundred, and reopened it (even though it was 400 MB, it would open in a few seconds), and then export the second hundred pages; and so on all through the file.
For some reason, closing the InDesign file must reset memory allocation or something like that, with the result that exporting to PDF retains it's normal speed. -
Exporting Matrox HD Project To MPEG-2 DVD Taking Very Long
Project: Matrox HD 1920 x 1080i. 2 hours on timeline. The files are original files taken from AG-HMC150 AVCHD camcorder in .MTS file format.
If I export the timeline to MPEG-2 DVD format with CBR, render with maximum quality option enabled, and render with maximum depth enabled, this process takes 8 hours.
If I export the timeline to MPEG-2 DVD format with VBR 2 passes, render with maximum quality option enabled, and render with maximum depth enabled, this process takes 16 hours.
I wanted to ask is this normal for exporting to take this long on my computer with Matrox MXO2 Mini w/ MAX? Is there a problem with my computer, settings, or something else? What can I do to improve export speed of MPEG-2 DVD files?
Below are the specs of my computer. Windows 7, Adobe CS5, and Matrox are updated to latest versions. MPE GPU Acceleration is hardware enabled.
Operating System
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
Bloomfield 45nm Technology
RAM
24.0 GB Triple-Channel DDR3 @ 534MHz (8-8-8-20)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P6T DELUXE V2 (LGA1366)
Graphics
ASUS VH236H (1920x1080@60Hz)
2048MB GeForce GTX 460 (EVGA)Jim-You can speed things up (and keep that quality) by ensuring you have Hardware Acceleration turned on and doing a Direct Export, instead of Queuing it up through AME
According to Adobe that is incorrect Jim. Here's a quote...
Adobe Media Encoder
Premiere Pro and other applications employ Adobe Media Encoder, a standalone encoding application. When you specify export settings in the Export Settings dialog box and click Export, Premiere Pro sends the export request to the Adobe Media Encoder.
From the Export Settings dialog box, click Queue to send Premiere Pro sequences into the standalone Adobe Media Encoder queue. From the queue, you can encode sequences into one or more formats, or take advantage of other features.
When the standalone Adobe Media Encoder is rendering and exporting in the background, you can continue to work in Premiere Pro. Adobe Media Encoder encodes the most recently saved version of each sequence in the queue. -
Best Export Settings For Fast/Low-Res QuickTime Movies
I couldn't find a discussion room for FCP 7 so I figured if anybody is proficiant with FCP X, they could help me.
Hello,
I really could use some help with my export settings using FinalCut Pro 7. Most of my shows are no more than 20 minutes and I pretty much know the best QuickTime export settings for uploading to Vimeo, Exposure Room,YouTube...etc. But now I am trying export a lengthy project at 53 minutes.
The footage is mixed and some of it was not converted to ProRes but it plays great and renders fine in the timeline. The sequence settings were picked automatically at 1920x1080 because of the main footage that was brought in.
This upload is for client viewing purposes ONLY so I really don't care about the quality as much as the export speed. As far as what I’ve tried - I am using the H.264 codec. I tried lowering it to NTSC 720x480, then tried 1280x720 HD. I set the compressor lower than medium and the Kbps (?) settings to AUTOMATIC when I typically set it manually, between 3000 and 5000. My audio is set at AAC.
It’s a crappy project because of the way it was frankenstein’d together in the field (I’m just cutting it), but I'm committed now and have a huge deadline. I'm getting a bit nervous because of how many hours it’s taking to export. The client is going to make inevitablec hanges and will want to see those changes quickly again - online.
NOTE: My Compressor does not work and I’ve never needed to use so far so that option is not available.
I could really use could some wisdom today!
Thanks so much to whomever can steer me in the right path.
`Patrick
