Exporting CS5 file to PDF causes the document size to enlarge on PDF!

I need help... FAST! I have a 14-page 4CP calendar that bleeds on three sides. The bleed size is 3/16", per the printer's requirements. When I export the file from InDesign to PDF, the overall page size is increased by exactly 3/16"! I nearly missed this and approved the job for printing. Luckily, I turned on the rulers in the PDF file to double-check all the page elements were properly placed and wouldn't fall on the fold. That's when I discovered that objects that I had placed on a page were extending into the fold and onto the next page. I went back to my InDesign file and found that those elements were properly placed and did not extend into the fold as they were doing in the PDF file. I tried different PPDs, exporting the file with and without printer's marks... all to no avail. I finally printed the file to a Postscript (PS) file and then exported that file to PDF and got it to work. However, I would prefer to avoid that extra step. What is going on? Why is the file enlarging (coincidentally the EXACT same amount that the bleed was set for) and/or what am I doing wrong? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Are you familiar with bleeds etc?  i.e. have you used them before?  It sounds to me as if you're doing everything mostly right but not realising that Acrobat and Reader (please don't mention Mac Preview) show the size including the bleeds when you choose those options upon export from Indesign.
Go back and check your document setup.  Page size should be excatly just that, finished page size.  Bleed settings (you might have to tick more options to see them) should be also just that.  Export the PDF, go to 'Marks and bleeds' tick 'Use Document bleed settings' and you're done.  The document will appear bigger.
oh and use the camera button for screenshots.
You can see the actual size of the doc by going Advanced > Print Production > Crop Pages and toggling between TrimBox (the size the page will get trimmed to) and CropBox (which includes the bleeds and is what displays).

  • How can I change the page size of a scanned PDF document?

    How can I change the page size of a scanned PDF document?
    I scanned a 50-page document with an HP 5610xi All-In-One using the software that comes with it: HP Scan Pro. Though the physical document has standard 8.5" x 11" pages, the PDF resulting from scanning has page size set to 35.42 × 48.67 inches (according to Preview's "Tools > Inspector". I want to resize the pages to 8.5" x 11". Shouldn't Preview be able to do that with "Tools > Adjust Size..."? When I try, the menu option is grey so I can't select it.
    I'm using Preview Version 4.2.

    Thanks for the insight; that explains why it's the wrong size. I selected 300dpi scanning (which is the default, actually), but HP Scan Pro evidently created a PDF with 72dpi indicated. I want it fixed because I want to distribute the file to other people and have them able to print or display it without problems.
    I still don't know why Preview won't let me change it, but your question about whether I wanted to print it did lead me to find a workaround: "File > Print" and "Save as PDF..." saved it with the correct page size.

  • Why dont i ever see downloaded pdfs in the "documents section" in adobe reader on my ipad?

    Why dont i ever see downloaded pdfs in the "documents section" in adobe reader on my ipad? They only stay in the Acrobat.com section and when I try to move them the "documents" partion is not listed as an option. Only the folders i have within acrobat.com are listed

    The pdfs have been uploaded to Acrobat .com (from my computer) I open the Adobe reader on my ipad and see them in the acrobat partition of the reader. I tap on them and they open.  To test whether they were truly downloaded ,I turn off wifi and they still open. I consider this "downloaded" BUT... they stay in the acrobat.com partition of the reader. Nothing ever goes or lives in the "Documents" partition..nor can I move anything there.....Why not? What is the"documents" partition there for if nothing lives or can be moved there?

    16.0.4 update now saves "smallest file size" pdf's the same size as "illustrator default" ...anyone else?
    I have to save the file, open it in acrobat, then resave using "reduced file size"
    this is since I updated to 16.0.4 yesterday I think....there was some update

    I used default setting each time...now that its updated, I cannot compare it to before the date
    can anyone check these settings?

  • Document size changes when creating pdf from jpeg

    When I create a pdf from a jpeg file, the document size increases considerably. The native jpeg was saved in the "save to web" feature in Photoshop. I cannot find settings in ImageReady or Acrobat to make my document the correct size. Any suggestions?

    Why not save the PDF from Photoshop directly? This gives full control
    over compression settings. It will not, however, downsample so you
    should do that first.

  • Problems turning Illustrator pages into PDFs at the SAME SIZE...?

    Something weird is happening for me, when I attempt to turn Illustrator layouts in PDFs or maybe it's "normal" for Acrobat to do this, but I don't like it and I want to fix it...
    I have a page laid out in Illustrator. It's RGB, 1024x768 pixels in size, and has various JPGs at 72dpi placed on the page, and it has text on it too.
    Everything is laid out pixel-perfect, and when I view it at 100% size in Illustrator, that's the size I want to the PDF to be as well, when the PDF is viewed at 100% size. The PDF is going to be viewed on-screen and the images contained in the file have various lines and suchlike in it that absolutely have to be viewed at 100% size, or they appear all blurry.
    So I have my Illustrator document, at 100% size, and it looks perfect. I go to File > Save A Copy and save a version of it as a PDF.
    I use the Illustrator Default settings (which, when I go through them all one by one, would indicate to me nothing about a file size conversion, no downsampling, etc.) and my PDF is generated.
    However... when I then open up the PDF file in Acrobat Professional, the page it has created is way larger than my Illustrator page. So if I view my new PDF at 100% size, not only has the 72dpi image gone all blurry, but the boundaries of the page extend off the edge of my screen.
    I would hazard a guess that in order to get my PDF to appear at the size it *should* be, I have to view it in Acrobat at *about* 75% - but the images are still blurry, because of the re-sizing.
    So all I'm asking is for a simple way to get what's in Illustrator to convert to PDF at the same size.
    Surely there must be a way?
    Any help anyone?
    I'm using Illustrator CS3 13.0.2 and Acrobat Professional 8.1.2, running on Mac OS X 10.5.2 on Intel.

    > You can't. Well, YOU can, by adjusting your resolution setting in Acrobat...
    >No, even *I* can't. *MY* views in Acrobat and Illustrator of the SAME document, when BOTH viewed at 100% are DIFFERENT sizes.
    Because you haven't adjusted your resolution settings.
    >And what do you mean by "adjusting your resolution setting in Acrobat" anyway? I *assume* you mean by adjust your view magnification settings?
    No, that is your current magnification. Your resolution is set in the
    "page display" section of Acrobat's preferences. Each user can set it
    differently.
    >But if I lay out a document or image intended for print in InDesign or Quark or Photoshop, the way I see it when I view it 100% size will be exactly the same as anyone else on any other computer will see it when viewed at 100% size.
    Not in Acrobat.
    > Acrobat is also used to create on-screen presentations, complete with hyperlinks and page transitions options, which obviously have no use in the print world.
    Indeed. And people have free choice of how to view them. What you
    can't do is do pixel-level design. You can control the open options,
    like what magnification, whether the full page is visible, but you
    can't control how many pixels that uses, so you cannot match it to
    some other application.

  • Resize a layer to a percentage of the document size and position in corner

    I need to create a script that places a logo in the corner of my main document but i need the logo to be constrained to a percentage of the document size. my logos needs to live in the bottom right corner of my images and be no larger than 28 percent height and no larger than 60 percent of the width of the document. i need it to constrain proportions of the original file so if the logo is square it will remain square, or if it is more rectangular it will maintain its rectangular shape.  Heres what i've come up with so far, i am pretty inept at scripting so if disregarding my current script is more helpful than building upon it please ignore mine:

  • How to create a pdf with the correct size?

    Hi there
    How do I create a pdf with the correct size? I created several albums and ordered them. Now I want to backup the album and I know how to create a pdf, but when I choose A5 it's to big, when I create my own size it's not the size it should be. The original (made with iphoto) is a small size album 200x150mm. But when I create my own size (200x150) it shows some white borders.
    Does anybody have some tips ore workarounds?
    Yuri
    Imac
    Iphoto 11 (9.4.2)

    Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size.  You shouldn't have to select any size.  While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
    That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print.  Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
    If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window.  In the first print window click on the PDF button.  It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF.  That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

  • Setting the document size

    Hi, i am trying to set the document size in a .jsx file and for miullimeters when i check from Photoshop the image size the dimensions are different
    preferences.rulerUnits = Units.MM
    //2. Create a new document
    var docRef = documents.add(210,297,72 )
    in PS 5.5 i get the size 209.9 297.04 ,is there a way to acive the exact dimension?
    Thx.
    P.S. This is my first post on Adobe forums so excuse me  if i did something wrong

    What you are seeing is a rounding of size/pixels/resolution
    You will get a closer result ..
    preferences.rulerUnits = Units.MM;
    //2. Create a new document
    var docRef = documents.add(210,297,1000 );
    You had it set to 72 pixels per inch hence the rounding to nearest size.

  • Is there any way to change the document size from scene to scene?

    I'm building a portfolio site, but I need the document size to be different from each scene.  I'd rather not create a separate swf/html file for each page since that would disrupt the transition between scenes (not to mention all the wok I went through to get the dropdown menus working).
    For instance, the "home" scene is structured for 1200x670 px, but the portfolio scene labeled "published" needs to be at 1200x1500px.
    Is there any way to change the document size from scene to scene?  OR; If, for instance, I made the universal document size 1200x1500 for the entire flash file, is there a script that would restrict the "home" scene to only show the first 670 pixels?

    not in flash alone.
    you may be able to do what you want using javascript in your html document and using the externalinterface class to communicate between your actionscript the embedding html javascript.

  • How can I print a pdf in the actual size with a page border?

    How can I print a pdf in the actual size with a page border? (2 pages per sheet preferred)
    I usually print pdfs of books at a copy shop and they turn out fine.
    The problem comes when I try to print the same books at home.
    I use Adobe Acrobat X with the same settings: "multiple pages per sheet" (2x1) and page border. But the pages are slightly shrunken when printed. I think this is because my printer can't print as closely to the margins. Still, two pages should be able to fit on one sheet in actual size. Are there any layout settings that I can play with to find a better fit, besides portrait and landscape?
    If I select page scaling "none," I'm able to print the pdf in actual size, one page per sheet. But there's no option to add a page border.

    I have a test with some questions (multiple choice, FIB, matching, etc). I have just one button to submit all the answers, and after submiting the student can see his score and review the test to know where he failed. He can't answer again. However, he can change the answer multiple times before submiting.
    "if i turn on success/failure captions the student will see them while answering" - before submitting
    "if i turn them off he wont know what's the right answer" - after submitting
    My results page is the default. I didn't use any variable. When i go to the results page after reviewing the test all the entry boxes are "wrong".

    I could be wrong, but it looks like you're invoking gcc all wrong.
    1) You're using the -c flag which tells the compiler to only compile, yet you're trying to also link.
    2) The last time that I used gcc, I believe you had to use a special flag to tell it that you wanted a shared library... something like -G. (It's not smart like Kai's KCC or Forte).
    3) On top of all that, you may have to use a -thread option to make sure you are generating multi-thread safe code.
    I suggest taking a second look at the man pages for gcc.
