Exporting Mpeg-2 using Compressor

Hey there, I'm attempting to export my final cut sequence as an mpeg-2 using compressor, after I set everything up and click submit, it tells me that it "Cannot Submit Batch" and that it is "Unable to connect to background process". Am I missing something. What does this mean "Backround Process"?
Please help.

This is a known issue that many folks experience, so Apple has a Knowledge Base document suggesting solutions.
Or do those not work for you? (that is also the case for many folks)

  • Problem exporting from FCP using compressor

Out of the blue - I'm getting batch failures trying to export from FCP for use in a DVD. Immediately after selecting compressor for export, I get an error reading "That file already exists", and a new tab appears in the media browser with a lengthy character string. Compressor opens fine, and I select Best Quality 4:3 encoding for video and aiff48 for audio. When the batch is submitted - it promptly fails and blames FCP for generating an error.
Did all kinds of restarts and work arounds to no avail. The promising news is that this error seems to occur only when exporting from FCP through Compressor.
My work-around is to export a QT movie of the piece, quit FCP, launch Compressor, and then import the QT for batching.
Hope this helps anyone else in similar situations

    Hi:
    How long is your movie?
The best workflow is FCP > Compressor > DVDSP.
You can encode your timeline directly to get MPEG2 video and Dolby 2 (AC3) audio files. Then import those in DVDSP and author your DVD.
Using Compressor you control the full encoding process. You can test with small parts of your movie (those where you got problems with iDVD) and find the best encoding options fopr your footage.
Of course the DVDSP learning curve is longer than iDVD but once you learned ir you probably never go back. Like iMovie and FCP.
To give you detailed info about what encoding settings to use you must post some info about your FCP project.
    Hope that helps !

  • Exporting iMovie Project using Compressor.

I've just finished a 4-hour concert video in iMovie HD 6. I wonder if I could use compressor to encode file without exporting full quality movie at first. I have not enough HDD space left. I also tried to import iMovie project file to FCP but the timeline didn't work very well.
    Thx

    Sorry for the delay..
In FCP, use File and Open, then navigate to an iMovie project and select it - which should work even though "Standard Files" is shown as the format at the bottom of the "Choose a File" window. Then FCP will say "Reading Project", and then will ask where to store this new FCP project, and it would normally go in your "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder.
You may then get a "Media Performance Warning", which may say that the media files are not optimised for Final Cut Pro. But just click on OK, and they should load and play perfectly ..at least, mine do.
You say that you get the following error:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
That might be some kind of permissions error ..but you don't say what happens next: if it's "0 access denied", that suggests that FCP does have access to the file and should open it ..but maybe it stumbles over that "1 unknown".
So tell us; what happens after you get that error message? ..Does the file open or not ..and what happens instead of it opening? And why d'you get only "..1 file(s) recognized.." if you're opening an entire project which would normally consist of several files?
You say "..when I try to import my imovie file.." ..but why are you IMPORTING rather than simply OPENING the iMovie project in FCP? FCP can read iMovie projects, so it should simply be a matter of opening the project, not exporting it from iMovie and then importing it into FCP.
Look: here's a project in iMovie..
..and here's the same project opened (with File and Open) in FCP:
All the source files are there (..in that little list at top-left..) so that the whole project plays in FCP just as it does in iMovie HD 6.
[..For a bigger, easier to see, view of these pics, click on 'Start Slideshow' on this page..]
As for "..How can I get a copy of QT6 and keep it seperate?.." erm, if you were still on OS X 10.3.9 you could 'downgrade' from QT 7 to QT 6, but I don't know how to obtain - apart from your asking someone who has it - a copy of QT 6 now that only QT 7 is downloadable ..or search amongst your original installation discs.
Maybe somebody else here knows where to find and download QT 6; but I can't think where ..sorry! (..I don't know if this old version will work for you or not, or if it would interfere with QT 7..)
NOTE: That REMOVING QT 7 may interfere with running FCP!
NOTE: That if you have QT Pro 7, then going back to QT 6 may mean that your 'Pro' key will no longer work with QT 6, and you may be left with just the QT 6 player.
..That's why I advised keeping separate versions of 7 and 6, so that FCP isn't affected by the 6 downgrade. To keep them separate, you'd leave QT 7 in your Applications folder, and put QT 6 in, say, your 'Movies' folder. I do NOT know, though, if they use the same - or different - 'preference' files (..normally stored in "com. apple.quicktime.(etcetera)" in <your User name>Library/Preferences and in other Libraries).
I suggest NOT rummaging around and changing/moving/exchanging those preference files unless you KNOW what you are doing, or are advised by a specialist like Karl.

  • Why do I get a yellow exclamation point with red background when exporting to YouTube using compressor?

Whenever I try to export using FCPX and Compressor 4 I always get something that looks like this:
Any idea why that is? I'm using all default settings on the youtube export, and I'm transcoding it using another mac via compressor.

None of these answers are correct. The error favicon happens in Firefox for Android occasionally. When the browser is offline or on a poor network connection you will get a timeout error page.
We have a bug where the icon persists on reload. With a little time the favicon cache will expire and the favicon will be updated to the correct one.

Make sure the sequence and project you are trying to export is selected. Also, you may need to click on the drop down arrow in compressor to view your project. I'll be working with compressor quite a bit over the next few days for an EPK I'm cutting. I will try to duplicate your problem and let you know what I come up with.

  • Export using Compressor crashes Motion

    Motion 2.1.2
This problem seems to have surfaced out of nowhere. When using the commandshifte command to export from Motion using Compressor, Motion crashes. Every time. Was fine yesterday and have not done any software updates since. Can export directly out of Motion (but need to do a batch). Trashed Motion and Compressor prefs and repaired permissions. Compressor fires up on its own just fine.
    Help?

Export to Compressor using any ProRes format does not work.
If anyone would like me to upload the project I can, but it'll be a big one if I "collect media."
Bottom line, this workflow works in Compressor 3.0, 3.0.1,2 but not 3.0.3. It gets a strange pixelation that is unusable.
I cannot describe my dissatisfaction with Apple right now. My business runs on FCS2 and I have had to start this project (which is on a strict timeline.. aren't they all?) from scratch because there is no way out of this bug. The forward compatibility is another issue altogether, which irritates me beyond description.
I have noticed on these boards, that I often do some unique work and no-one experiences the "exact" same problems I encounter. I do tend to push the limits of what FCS can do, but I am not extraordinary by any means. I simply use it the way it's intended.
Exporting from Motion, using compressor, is the best way to format my graphics for my FCP timeline as I have to export many graphic sequences that need to match my FCP sequence settings. There is no reason the "export to compressor" using a custom compression ProRes preset should result in mangled motion graphics.
TO APPLE: Come the **** on. This is YOUR compression algorithm.
Please if anyone has anything to add here I'm welcome to suggestions.
Currently the only thing I can do to alleviate the problem is to roll-back to FCS/Compressor from disc and re edit my entire sequence.
    **** poor. **** poor.

  • Exporting music in FCP using Compressor problem

    Hi Everyone,
I am attempting to export a project with music in the time line. The music is Wav, Aiff and one Mp3 files. When I export the video using compressor all the music is missing. I have attempted to clear all FCP presets and restart several times. I have FCP 6.6
The music does play fine in the time line.
    Thanks for any help!

James M. has it right. Convert the MP3 and the WAV files to AIFF, 48khz, 16 bit and use those in your Sequence. You might even have to convert the existing AIFF file(s) if they aren't 48khz, 16 bit.
Once you've edited the new files into your Sequence, do an Audio Mixdown, then export.

  • Why won't 110 min video not fit DVD when using Compressor Best 120 min

I have a standard DV video lasting 110 minutes. I have exported it as a DV clip and imported that clip as an asset in DVD Studio Pro 4. Build fails with a not enough room on the output media message. I have also exported from FCP using Compressor set to the Best 120 minute setting with the same result. Shouldn't 110 minutes fit on a standard DVD using either of these methods?
What's up? What can I do to get this material on a standard DVD?

If you are using a 4.7gb DVD and the video is 110min then use the 120min preset then click on the icon that shows you the "estimate size". In my opinion it is very accurate, but it doesn't include the audio in that calculation. So just bring down the Mbps (the top slider) down about .5 of a bit rate and then your audio should fit just fine and you can use the 120 min setting.
You do this, you click your "video" or MPEG icon in the "untitled" tab. Now look in the "Inspector" to the right. See the "estimated size"? Now click on the "encoder" icon (second to the left), Click "Quality" tab, and adjust the "Mbps" down about .5ish.

  • Issues with Motion in Using Compressor for a PAL DVD

I am new to DVD Studio Pro and Compressor and am trying to create a DVD of a 50 minute PAL project that I made using FCP. I have found a couple tutorials on how to export my project using compressor to be compatible with DSP via pre sets (DVD: Best Quality 4:3) and actually manipulating the controls myself. I have found in using both techniques that during any scene with motion, the edges of the moving actor become blurred and grainy. The tutorials that I checked out I assume (since they were from the US) were for NTSC projects, is there any other considerations that I should make in compressing a PAL project, which might contribute to this graininess? Any ideas?
Any help would be much appreciated. I have included my settings from Compressor below.
    Thanks.
    Name: MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass 4:3
Description: Fits up to 90 minutes of video with Dolby Digital audio at 192 Kbps or 60 minutes with AIFF audio on a DVD-5
    File Extension: m2v
    Estimated file size: 273.48 MB
    Type: MPEG-2 video elementary stream
    Video Encoder
    Format: M2V
    Width: 720
    Height: 576
Pixel aspect ratio: PAL CCIR 601
    Crop: None
    Frame rate: 25
    Frame Controls: Off
    Aspect ratio: 4:3
    Field dominance: Bottom first
    Average data rate: 6.2 (Mbps)
    2 Pass VBR enabled
    Maximum data rate: 7.7 (Mbps)
    High quality
    Best motion estimation
Closed GOP Size: 12, Structure: IBBP
    DVD Studio Pro meta-data enabled

The general concepts are the same in terms of maintaining quality throughout the work process in terms of Codecs, exports etc.
As to the motion areas, compression markers in FCP can help in problem areas. What you should do is grab some of the problems sections and drop markers in there and encode them. Some of the frame controls can help, depending on source footage. What was the original material and cpautred/edited? Sometimes things in there can also give quality hits.
Lastly some things (like real black outfits on light backgrounds) can cause some edging issues which can take some work to clean up as much as possible...

  • Exporting for DVDSP2 using FCPHD4.5?

    Hi,
What's the "best" method for exporting from FCPHD 4.5 use in DVDSP2? I've searched the forums and I've a seen a few different answers (a lot of which were suggestions for FCP5 / DVDSP4).
I have a 99 minute movie that I'm exporting at "current settings" from FCP. I end up with a 21GB file that works fine in iDVD5 - but will not fit onto a standard DVD-R using DVDSP2 (comes out to 8.7 GB in DVDSP's meter). iDVD also produces a final print that we're quite happy with.
I'm planning to upgrade to FC Studio before the end of the year - but until then - any suggestions, techniques, tips would be greatly appreciated. Or, simply tell me where I'm going wrong.
    Thanks gang-

    Craig,
While I'm no expert I can tell you what I have experienced. I prefer, and have been suggested to, export from FCPHD using Compressor. Of course I always go with high quality output. I just used this method with a 98 minute movie late last week and used the 90 minute HQ compression default in Compressor and the accompanying audio compression. After about 20 hours of compression I ended up with a movie that was 3.42GB and audio that was 1.05GB. However, when I put them in the DVDSP Project the resulting track containing them is 4.9 GB, still too long (my total project comes out to 5.1GB). My suggestion is to use Compressor, but not to use the 90 minute HQ setting. I'm not sure the best way from there I would say that you should use the bit rate calculator at this site: http://www.wiredinc.com/bitrate.html and customize your settings, or if you're not comfortable with that use either the 90 minute fast encode, or 120 HQ encode, but I do not know if the results will be good enough for yoru liking.
Hope that helps at least a little. I don't want to to waste 20 hours like I did! good luck!

  • Trying to export video in mpeg 2 but compressor doesn't come up in the export drop down window. Any ideas?

trying to export video in mpeg 2 but compressor doesn't come up in the export drop down window. Any ideas?

Export the file using "Current Settings" and enable "self contained".
Once the export is complete, open up Compressor, drop in your file, select the desired output settings and turn Compressor loose. If you have set up a Quick Cluster and have a multi core Mac, Compressor will use all available cores. It will be a faster process.

  • Audio missing while exporting  an MPEG 2 with Compressor

    Hello There
I exported a sequence from a video project in Final Cut Pro, using Compressor. While exporting an MPEG 2, I get no audio on the video file. What do I need to do so the Audio is embedded with in the MPEG 2 file?
    Thanks!

If you want to make a DVD-Video, then you'll need to import both files into DVD-SP for authoring.
If you want to make an MPEG-2 Program Stream or MPEG-2 Transport Stream, choose the appropriate DVD preset for your program length, duplicate the preset then alter the preset copy to make it produce a muxed (multiplexed) file.

  • Exporting in FCPX using quicktime compressor I get this error.

what is this error I am going to show you guys a screen capture.
I am using the share/export using compressor settings.

This error generally means that there's something on your timeline that FCPX doesn't like such as a corrupt clip, unusual codec, a DRM-protected audio track, CMYK image, etc.
    From Crash Analyzer:
    -50 (QuickTime)
This error occurs when there is corrupt or invalid media in your timeline. Check that the codec used by the file is recommended for use in your editing application.
    Suggested Actions
If you are using Final Cut Pro 7 and your sequence codec is set to a long-GOP codec such as HDV, H.264, XDCAM, AVCHD or MPEG-2, set your sequence codec to ProRes.
For best results, convert all long-GOP media to ProRes.
Make sure all images are RGB, not CMYK.
Ensure all images are less than 4000 pixels in width and height.
Use Corrupt Clip Finder to locate the corrupt clip.
After the corrupt file is located, use QT Repair or Media Salvage to fix it.
Make sure your files do not have Digital Rights Management (DRM) that prevent them being played outside of their intended application. Some files purchased from the iTunes Store will have DRM.
Make sure you are using AIFF or WAV audio files.
This can sometimes be caused by third-party codecs. Use System Toolkit to temporarily disable them.

  • Export Using Compressor from FCP fails every time

When I try to use the File>Export>Using Compressor command in FC Studio 2, everything seems normal until I submit the batch. But the job fails every time.
I get the following message: "Processing service request error: Final Cut Pro.app generated an error or unexpectedly quitUser aborted Media Server".
I've gone through all the discussion stuff on how Compressor needs to be reinstalled and all that. That's not my problem here. Compressor will work fine if I use it standing alone. It's only if I try to use the FCP export that this problem occurs.

Compressor works fine as a stand alone when I import a Quicktime file. However, if I try to export a suquence directly from FCP, it gives me a message "File Error: A file of this name already exists". If I press okay it exports it to Compressor which gives me a message, "Can't preview movie Final Cup Pro App is busy".
Then when I go ahead and load the output settings into compressor ( actual compressor window shows the sequence as being loaded) it starts to render and then it stops with the following message logged
    "Name: MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass
    Time Elapsed: 0:00:00
    Time Remaining: 0:00:00
    Percent Complete: 100
Status: Failed - Final Cut Pro.app generated an error or unexpectedly quitUser aborted Media Server"
Any ideas what the problem might be?

  • Problem exporting video using compressor for a final cut pro vid

I've created a video in Final Cut Pro and trying to export using compressor to apple tv. Each time about half way through it crashes final cut and gives me the 'final cut pro had to quit unexpectedly'.
Haven't a clue what is going on, it happened sometimes when i was trying to conform to HD but when i did it bit by bit it was ok.
All the media is online so really haven't a clue. I've tried using quicktime conversion in pro-res then bashing into compressor and it works but interlacing is all over the shop, even with de-interlace filter.
ANy answers with regards to why its crashing greaty appreciated!
P.S when it crashes says something about a pro-core plugin

    Hi Jim,
Can you update your profile, we don't know what your hardware set up is or your OS, or version of FCS. It could give you answers a lot faster if we know your details from the off.
Ok, what format is your original media, what are your sequence settings please.
