Exporting Prores 422(HQ) Quicktime error -50

I've been having trouble with this particular file, both in Compressor 3 and 3.5
We're trying to run movie through, and we're getting a quicktime error -50 each and every time. The input is a 1920x1080 59.94i film. We're trying to use compressor to Inverse Telecine the film to 23.98 Prores 1920x1080 progressive. We've had this work with many other projects, but this one just craps out after a couple minutes.
has anyone seen this? could it be something like permissions or something? The file seems just fine.

To the best of my knowledge, Compressor can't be used with i-apps. But it can be used within Final Cut Studio / apple's pro apps.
If you are working with film, I strongly recommend staying within apple's pro apps and not iMovie or iDvd.
(not sure if roxio's toast can address this feature or not but it might also be worth looking into).
Hope this advice is helpful but if not just come on back.

  • "Cloudy" Footage when Exporting ProRes 422 Timeline

    Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem when exporting a "QuickTime Movie" from FCP6 with a ProRes 422 sequence. The exported footage is very "cloudy" and washed out. When I export to an .mp4 from FCP6 as a QuickTime Conversion, it's not as bad, but the contrast is still way too bright. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance!!!

I too use a Canon mark II and post at cinema5D.com all the time. You might find some helpful resources there for shooting and handling the footage from that camera. I suggest this because you said the Sony HDV camera looks OK compared to the 5D footage. My 5D footage beats all my HDV cameras in highlight detail so this is suspicious.
The 5D is a challenging (and rewarding) camera but the exposure system is hard to manage. It is possible your footage was over exposed in-camera. If not, you can try running the footage through Apple Color and check the video scopes. Areas around the faces should be around 55 to 65 IRE in the Waveform monitor. Your display might need to be calibrated. This would explain the difference between the computer monitor and the TV output. It is also possible you have not updated Quicktime. There was a big update to QuickTime which fixed the way the Canon h264 files are interpreted and this fixed most issues like the ones you are describing.
Your camera also should have the latest firmware update from Canon which added manual controls in the M mode. Without this, the camera is constantly changing its exposure during the clip and will tend to blow out highlight details easily if there is a predominance of dark colors in the scene.
Also, you can try enabling highlight tone priority on the camera, which is sort of like a Black Stretch mode on some camcorders which adds a stop of highlight detail.
Regardless, the fact that it looks the same in all mediums except your computer monitor suggests the problem is a poorly calibrated monitor. I'll bet your footage is not properly exposed, but for some reason it appears to be this way on a dimly set monitor. Forgive me if I've over simplified the problem.
One last test you can do is change your compression settings to Animation and render just a few frames. Don't do too many, because the file will be huge. Animation doesn't use any color management (this is called absolute colormetrics) wherein the ProRes and h264 CODEC's are relative colormetric. If the footage still looks wrong in animation compression, you can eliminate the gamma shift/color management from your list of culprits. Hope that helps you figure this out.

  • Exporting ProRes 422 vs DVPro

I need to export several projects.  They are comprised of SD digial video and stills.  I see in the dialog box that I have several choices between ProRes, DV, DVPRO.  I have a copy of Compressor (from FCS.)  Which setting would be best?  I did a test and surprisingly (to me) the ProRes option created a smaller file.  Thanks.

Well, apparently the decoder was included in recent QT updates. Well, 7.5.5 according to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/appleproresquick timedecoder10forwindows.html
"Apple ProRes QuickTime Decoder is also included in QuickTime 7.5.5 and later"
I have verified that if you have QT 7.6 on a Mac...ANY Mac...it will play without FCP installed:

  • The Share Operation Export File has failed QuickTime Error -50

Hi, i've been trying 6 times or more to export a file from FCPX. I have done this many times but now it's failing with the above error.  I have nearly 300GB of space on my drive.  Any solutions?

This video had something like 30 powerpoint slides (jpegs) added and this is obviously a problem because as soon as i removed them it worked fine.  Not sure what the limit is but will have to experiment. thanks for your help.

  • I can't export due to a quicktime error!

I tried exporting different files and it will, but for some reason i can't export this one, can someone help?

    Ok.
You can try exporting your sequence as Export > Quicktime Movie, same settings and self contained if you haave space.
Close FCP, open Compressor and drop that movie as source. Check if that way work.
    Hope that helps !

  • ProRes 422 in QuickTime Player or FCP 5.1.4

Is there a quicktime component (or something like it) that I can install on my Mac so that I can play ProRes422 codec movies in FCP 5.1.4 and/or QuickTime Player (Pro) 7.2? Where can I download it?
    My system:
    PowerBook G4 17"
    1.33 GHz processor
    2 GB RAM
    Mac OS X 10.4.9
    FCP 5.1.4
    QuickTime Pro 7.2
    massachi

Ken, it means that someone with FCP 6 captured footage as ProRes and the OP is trying to view them...and he only has FCP 5.1.4 installed.
Sorry, to view or work with the ProRes codec, you need FCP 6 installed. The codec is linked to that version of the software. YOu cannot edit that codec with FCP 5.1.4.

  • FCP7 export prores 422HQ with discrete audio displays incorrect timecode in quicktime7?

    Hi all
I have been exporting Prores 422 HQ files as a SAS QT movie in FCP7 to create discrete audio channels for the file.  My issue is that once the file is complete and I open it in quick time 7, the timecode progressivly gets out of sync.  For example, my file has bars and tone from 00:58:30:00 - 00:59:30:00.  When I open the file in QT7 and change the bottom left corner to read timecode, the file starts out at 58:30, but at the end of the bars and tone, the timecode is 59:31, not the normal 59:30.  Then, as the movie goes on, the timecode gets more and more out of sync.
Now the conusing part is that when I my same file back in to FCP, or AVID or Resolve, the timecode is fine.  So it only seems to do this when opened in QT7.  The audio doesn't go out of sync either.
Maybe its an issue with my FCP sequence settings?  This has never happened before with any other file we open in QT7 and I have been trying to do some research about this issue but nothing seems to be coming up.  Any ideas?

The exported file plays fine, no glitches.  The original file that I use to create the new discrete audio file shows correct timecode when played in QT7.  The original file is also a prores 422 HQ file captured from a HDSR 444 tape.

  • Quicktime error 0 with compressor

Every time I try to export a sequence from FCP 5.0.2 using compressor I get an error when it tries to export the video saying "quicktime error 0" also when I try to export as a quicktime movie, I get a message saying "general error" im running compressor 2.0.1
    any help is greatly appreciated
    thanks
    ~jon

Udate:  The contained Quicktime file that I exported from FCPX rendered fully with no errors in Compressor, so I guess I"m in the clear, but I think this was an unnecessary extra step.  Its a mystery why I was getting the error when sending the render to Compressor from within FCPX.
Anyone else that has this issue, please share any solutions if you have them.

  • ProRes 422 (HQ) QT Export out of FCP getting error on re-import

The quicktime exports I'm producing out of my FCP system need renders when I drag them back into the project, into a seq. with the same exact settings they had on export. Even if I drag my export into the same sequence it was exported from!
    I'm trying to export a self-contained QT with current settings from a Pro Res 422 (HQ) 1920 x 1080 50i Sequence .
On creating a new sequence, I select the sequence preset  Apple Pro Res 422 HQ 1920x1080 50i, then cut in the media-- the media is a 90 min Pro Res 422 HQ quicktime from an online house, also 108050i.
Predictably, no render required. The frame rate, frame size, pixel shape, field, codec match between  the media and the sequence.
However, if I export  out of that sequence (using File – Export Quicktime; Self-Contained, Current Settings), then re-import the Quicktime and put it back in that same sequence or another new sequence  with the same preset settings, it needs picture render. This is only if my export selection from the sequence is at least a few minutes long. If I set an in and an out for a :30 sec selection and export that quicktime, I can play that back in the sequence with no render.
The fact that there's some difference between a 90 minute export from my computer and a 30 second export from my computer could be a clue.
Additional info-- I have tried creating a new sequence with the wrong settings preset to get the  FCP prompt "would you like to conform the sequence settings to match the file?" Then I click yes to conform settings and my quicktime export goes into the sequence-- with a red render bar. But if I then cut in the Pro Res HQ QT from the post house it will not need a render. These two QTs appear identical when I compare their item properties in FCP. On playback, in the viewer window, my export will appear a little stuttery.
Can anyone tell me what this means and if I can export a quicktime that does not need to be rendered to be played back in FCP?
    Many many thanks!
I'm running FCP 6.0.5 on a 2 x 2 GHz Quad Core with 11 GB Ram. Mac OS 10.5.6. I have media running off of 2 external drives, connected via eSATA. Drive Speed on the externals-- need to double check.

The Error I referred to in the title -- I am getting the message "clip settings do not match any sequence presets" when I try to cut my export into a sequence. Seems bizarre because it just came out of a sequence preset, not a custom sequence, using "current settings."

  • Repeated "QuickTime Error: -50" while export into Prores

What it's mean? Is anywhere QuickTime Errors list? Google fail down.
    Sourses is H.264 HD

    Search is your friend
The -50 error means "error in user parameters list", which means FCP is using invalid settings to create the movie. It could be related to preferences or an invalid installation but it's most likely a Final Cut Pro bug.
    ....Jon Chappell
This is a File System error. Check the integrity of your drives using Disk Utility > Verify Disk.

Other related posts suggest it is caused when there are CMYK stills used...if you have those replace with RGB stills

  • FCP Apple PRORES 422 (HQ) setting-how to export?

I am importing and dropping in scanned images from the storyboard into FCP and then importting and placing on the timeline some digital animated images which have been done in the format 1920x1080 24fps. They have been put through shake and we chose the setting Apple PRORES 422 (HQ) which I have then set the FCP settings to match that. Everything works fine in Final Cut but then when I export the timeline to make it into a Quicktime movie, the digital animated shots dont play properly, they like skip frames. Do you know anything about this and how I get it to play smoothly? I have tried everything I can think of and nothing is working!

First off, ProRes HQ is VASTLY OVERKILL for converted flash video. That is for 10-bit high end formats. All you gain in using that over ProRes 422 is file size.
Second, 640x432 is a non-standard frame size. 640x480 is more like it, but really, FCP would like to see 720x480. ProRes doesn't really work in RT with the dimensions you have.
Convert the FLV to something like DV50 or just DV. but you have to get the right aspect ratio, or things will require rendering. Or better yet, get the MASTER footage, and not a flash video.

  • Media Encoder changes the timecode when converting to Quicktime ProRes 422 (LT)

After spending the majority of my day searching for a solution to this problem, I am hoping someone here will know how to resolve this issue.
After encoding several hundred clips of various file types to ProRes 422 LT at 23.976fps in Media Encoder, we discovered that the timecode of the source clips and the LT clips varies significantly when we bring the quicktime clips into FCP 7 or Quicktime 7.  This is also creating issues for the EDL.
The source clips are XDCamHD, H.264, and .R3D files. We set up a batch in AME with a preset for ProRes (LT) at 23.976. After the batch processes, we import the clips into FCP 7 then export an EDL from the sequence.  The EDL shows timecodes that do not match the source clips.
The timecode is off by several hours, not just a few frames. If we look at the LT clips in Premiere, the timecode seems to match the source clip. In Final Cut, not even close.
Any ideas on where to start on this one?
If we use RedCineX to convert the R3D files, things seem to work. Also, compressor seems to have correct results. We were hoping that media encoder would be the solution as it processes these clips much faster.
We are looking for a solution that doesn't involve re-transcoding all of the footage.

    Two.

    Second, this.
    Customize or load keyboard shortcuts
From the Set menu in the Keyboard Customization dialog box, choose the set of keyboard shortcuts you want to use in Premiere Pro:
Adobe Premiere Pro Factory Defaults (Adobe Premiere Pro CS5)
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5)

  • In attempt to burn blu-ray, I get QuickTime error 0.  Takes hours to export a 7 minute movie from timeline, then get notice it fails.  What's going on here?

New problem just started 24 hours ago.  When I try to export from the time line to create a QuickTime file, a 7 minute movie on time line takes 3 hours to export and then the export fails, where as a few days ago, that export would take about 10 minutes at most.  I get the same failure notice when I try to share to blu-ray, DVD, or Vimeo.  Tried to use compressor, no such luck as compressor failed to make a .mov file.  I get QuickTime error 0 message about 5 minutes into trying to share to Blu-Ray now.   Does anyone know what is going on here?  I'm running latest update of Snow Leopard on an intel Mac Pro and the latest update to Final Cut Pro X.  I've also installed QT 7.6.6 to use in creating time lapse movie files.

Same problem here, too. Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 on OS 10.6.8. However, it is only doing it on ONE of my projects. A 4-second test project burned successfully.
I'm  actually going to use iDVD to burn copies for a few people, so I only need the movie file from FCPX.
Would someone please post best export settings for use on a DVD? In FCPX, the project is  in HD (1080p) with all media optimized to ProRes 442. I know it will have to be down-sampled to DVD resolution, but I've always been curious to know what settings will result produce the best possible quality in DVD resolution.
    Thank you!

  • ProRes 422 file "corrupt" in Premiere (and Quicktime & VLC) but not in After Effects

We recorded a lengthy (c.90minute) seminar on an EX3 and an Atomos Samurai, to ProRes 422. We've noticed that the file glitches when it's played back in anything real-time, such as Premiere, VLC or Quicktime (we don't have a copy of FCP to test it on). What happens is that less than a second of picture will loop and stutter continuously for, say, 30 seconds, while the audio is just white noise. This happens seemingly at random (although at the same place in whichever software we're playing it back on), and infrequently: so far, in 90 minutes of footage we've found one 30" section which does this, and a few examples of it happening for a second or two.
BUT: as an experiment I tried importing the clip into AE, and it plays fine. I've been able to export a 1-minute long "patch" to a 4:2:2 MXF which doesn't glitch, which we've reimported into Premiere with no issues. Is there any reason why this should be - I had assumed that Premiere and AE would share the same low-level code used for playing back video, or is this not the case? Is it something to do with the fact that Premiere's trying to play it back in real-time while AE isn't?
Obviously, it's not a workable solution to have to keep running footage through AE. Is this a bug, or just one of those things?
    Cheers
    Nick

I had assumed that Premiere and AE would share the same low-level code used for playing back video, or is this not the case?
    It is not the case.
Is it something to do with the fact that Premiere's trying to play it back in real-time while AE isn't?
That was my thought, too, given that even VLC stumbles on the clip.  AE basically 'renders' everything for playback.

  • I have a sequence shot on the 550d/rebel T2i, I converted it to prores 422 and edited in fcp. What is the best export that i can do to preserve quality and prevent pixelation.

i have a sequence shot on the 550d/rebel T2i, I converted it to prores 422 in MPEG Streamclip and edited in fcp. What is the best export that i can do to preserve quality and prevent pixelation. Rite now, i have been just clicking on the export to quicktime function, but the quality of the footage is completely reduced and colours look desaturated and there is pixellation compared to the original camera footage. Also is there anyway i can render and export the sequence using the original footage (like an online edit or something). Also is there anyway to upgrade the final quality. I have Compressor, Dvd Studio pro, Motion, Color and Cinema tools, i dnt know if they are of any use to me and have no idea how to use hem or what they are for also.

    >What is the best export that i can do to preserve quality and prevent pixelation
The best way to export is entirely dependent on what you plan to do with the exported video.  For example, if you plan to go to DVD, the export process is different than if you plan for web delivery or for iPhone viewing.  Compressor has presets for most final delivery formats ... start with those.
    >is there anyway i can render and export the sequence using the original footage
Yes.  In FCP, go to File-Export->QuickTime Movie.  Check the box to make the movie Self-Contained and use Current Settings.  Do NOT "Recompress All Frames."   The resulting self-contained movie will play on any Mac that has the needed audio and video codecs installed.
    >is there anyway to upgrade the final quality
No and maybe.  While you technically cannot improve quality over the original, you can possibly 'enhance'  the aesthetic quality of the video using various filters in FCP or Color.
