Exporting SWF Images in Flash CC
I'm running Flash CC and have been trying to export a swf image file just under 40kb. Swf is the accepted file format for an online ad campaign and I'm struggling finding the best way to combine quality and file size. The image is static. If I could use a png or jpg I would...
Flash keeps exporting files sized at 9kb and they are horrible quality. Any advice on how to change the export settings in Flash to improve the image quality and maximise my 40kb limit would be greatly appreciated.
I tried exporting the image through InDesign and the smallest file size I could get was 130kb with decent quality after exporting as a jpg and re-exporting. Unfortunately lowering the quality of the jpg only helped lower it from 250kb to 130kb... Not quite enough... Suggestions on exporting smaller swf files via InDesign would be greatly appreciated (though I think I have maximised the settings).
I have read tutorials and googled for hours. Any suggestion is welcome at this stage!
edit your image in photoshop and experiment with various settings/size. there's no magic high quality small file size setting.
it's a trade-off. the higher the quality and the greater the image dimensions, the greater the file size. you have to decide where those are acceptable.

Import and export the image in flash
HI! Guys!
I am Quite New to to flash in this enviroment so please i
need help can any one help me out in this problem.
the issue is I need to upload the image from my desktop to
certain flash animation by draging and generate the image from that
final Flash animation and save it in my computer.
Dijupif you're using flash 8, you can use flash to upload a file
(using the filereference class) to a server that hosts the swf. and
if that file is a jpg or gif, you can load it into flash. however,
you can't drag and drop a file into flash. -

Flash export SWF 23.98fps imports in AE as 23.97fps
Hello
I have a problem where I export an animation from Flash CS6 as a 1080 SWF 23.98 fps, and import it into AE CS6 as 23.98, however it reads it as 23.97fps and after interpret the footage into 23.98 it adds an extra frame to the beginning of the shot and removes one from the end.
I am now exporting PNG sequences from Flash however this is not ideal and removes the benefits of the vector images SWF provides.
Any help would be extremely appreciated.
I am quite new to both programmes, as well as this community, and am probably ill informed as to how they all work, and I realise I may of not supplied all the information required for anyone to answer the question, which I apologise for in advance if this is the case.
ThanksI have found a work around where by adding two frames onto the end of the swf and then trimming both the first and the last frame, I have a swf at 23.98 that plays the sameish as 23.97
@Szalam
I am not sure, I am working to an animatic that is 23.976fps which is probably the route of all my problems. I just know that my 23.98fps SWFs are adding 0.04 frames every single shot, accumulating in about 6 frames a the end of the 2.5 min animation.
I don't think there is a solution because flash cannot export at 23.98 and the animators have already done half the shots. -
Hi,

When I export output in swf format then xcelsius generating swf file of version 9. I want to export swf file in different versions of flash like (6,7,8,9) . I tried to install older versions of flash to do this but I am not able to open xcelsius in older version. I am getting error saying 'Install latest flash player'.
Is there any way to export swf files in different versions?
Is this build is compatible with only flash 10?
Thanks,

Flash CC crashes every time I try to export an image
I just downloaded the free trial of Flash CC because I wanted to test it out as a drawing program. I just finished an illustration and want to export it as a .JPEG, but every time I try, Flash crashes! I tried creating a new file and just exporting an image of a small circle, and even that caused the program to crash.
I don't want to have wasted a free trial and be unable to use or access these images after the trial runs out, simply because I cannot export them into image files.
Any help would be wonderful, thanks.
(I am using a desktop Mac, if that makes any difference)Are you on Mac OSX 10.6? Flash Pro CC is not supported on Mac 10.6 and this crash is one of the known issues on Mac 10.6.

Export PNG images with alpha channel from flash
Hi,
I have this FLA with animation and when played, the animation has alpha channel. I can’t understand why when I look in the library I see the frames without the alpha channel and also when I try to export/extract the image again the image don’t have alpha channel.
How is it that in flash this image has alpha channel and how to get it out like that into PNG?
Here is the link to download the FLA:
http://download759.mediafire.com/nb749r29220g/e0636ab0ru6ouoa/Untitled-1.fla"when played, the animation has alpha channel"
how are you playing the animation? control/enter in Flash, Publishing to a Web page or what?
How can you tell that the animation has the alpha channel? What exactly are you seeing?
What is the aniimation? a series of images, one image moving? Are teweens imvolved?
" when I try to export/extract the image again the image don’t have alpha channel"
How are you exporting the image? is it a single image? or a series of frames that makes up an animation?
What was the file format of the original image? you brought that image into Flash and animated it? Now you want to export as a .png with transparency?
Have you ever tried to export a simple .png before so that you see and understand the dialog box that pops up during export? are you chosing "24 bit with alpha channel" in the "Colors" choice?
For those of us who may not want to download your file, please provide a more detailed describtion of everything related to this question.
Best wishes,

I'm currently porting a game from flash to the DS and having
difficulties exporting the images and was hoping someone out there
might be able to help. The images in flash are all vector based and
I need to export them and place them on a background (colour
255,0,255). The reason for the background colour is it is removed
programmically within the game (blue screening if you will).
Problem is, if I export them as png's and then add the background
in photoshop, or do a screenshot in flash with the image over the
background then it leaves a halo around the character.
Anyone know how to get around this?
Take care,
S.Can you upload an example of the png or a visual of the halo
you are seeing? -
Export version 10 SWF file from Flash CC
Hello,
I am trying to work out how to export a version 10 SWF file from Flash CC. Every media agency I am supplying files to requires version 10 but I can only export a Flash Player 10.3 file which creates a version 12 SWF.
Does anyone have any advice other than buying an odler version of Flash....
Thanks for your time.
Keithyou can use flash cs 6. it's part of your cc subscription.
or you can add fp 10 to flash cc. here's a walk-through using fp 9: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5511080#5511080 -
Exporting InDesign files to Flash, CS5.5
I exported an InDesign file as a Flash file but in flash it shows up as low res when I preview it or when others preview it. What am I doing wrong? I have never used Flash before. I am working with CS5.5
I exported the file as a SWF file and when a colleague viewed it, she said it was quite pixelated.
What should I do? Is there a better method for someone very very new to Flash?you can set the export resolution and package quality in Export SWF window´s Advanced Tab.
Higher resolution will not help if the original quality of your placed images is low.
And don´t set the resolution too high, if you have lot´s of images you may end up having a bloated SWF. -
I'm working on a project where many of the design elements and controls contain mx:Images with common source attributes. In the Flash Professional working environment I would be using these images as instances of MovieClips, which only needing to be referenced once at compilation (as I understand it), don't bog down the loading time for the compiled swf. When I run my flex application in debug mode I can see each swf image is being decompressed individually as the application initializes. While the decompression runs almost instantly on my computer locally, I imagine it will noticeably reduce efficiency when I put it online.
So my first question is this; is my assumption about the decompression time being a performance "liability" accurate? And if so, what's a more efficient way to load a copy of the image into memory that I can reference in all the different components that use it throughout the application?
Thanks~Benny**** The images I'm referring to are small, as in 4KB (apparently the smallest file size mac displays by default in the finder).... Actually, if anybody could tell me what view or preference you need to have set up in the Flash Builder workspace to view file sizes (either I'm blind, or it's tucked away in some sort of asinine fashion which is eluding me...) please let me know ****
Here I would say just use R?H click ‘Properties’. At least that would be in Windows.
I have constantly my work directory open and check IF needed for file size there and for .swf file size in the debug or release directories.
**** exported from the Flash library into the image folder in my Flex project. The 4KB swf files range from around 400 to 2000 after decompression and one image, which is relatively complex and detailed, is 78KB in the finder and about 150,000 after decompression, but it's only used once. ****
Here I would say for the first part, and as ‘rtalton’ pointed out embed this Image is quiet small - embedd it once use it as many times as !.
The second part: Well, I have built over the last four years some very large Image Application and never ever worried about ‘decompression’ and my Images are as well all done in Flash files and I never have them as small as 78 kb I use mine more the 300 kb size fully modified into Flash and as long they come out below 180 kb I never worry. I handle that all with preloading, loading and caching but I use modules so that is a little different as well.
And to the rest I’m not sure about that.

if you have the checkbox for use imported jpeg data selected
within the info for an image, does this mean that there will be
ZERO compression applied to the image from Flash when it is
exported?
Thanks. This from the Flash help file:
The JPEG format lets you save an image as a highly
compressed, 24-bit
bitmap. Generally, GIF format is better for exporting line
art, and JPEG
format is better for images with continuous tones, such as
photographs,
gradients, or embedded bitmaps.
Flash exports the first frame in the SWF file as a JPEG,
unless you mark a
different keyframe for export by entering the #Static frame
label.
1.. Select File > Publish Settings, click Formats, and
select JPEG Image.
2.. For the JPEG filename, either use the default filename,
or enter a new
filename with the .jpg extension.
3.. Click JPEG. Dimensions Enter values for width and height
in pixels for
the exported bitmap image, or select Match Movie to make the
JPEG image the
same size as the Stage and maintain the aspect ratio of your
original image.
Quality Drag the slider or enter a value to control the
amount of
JPEG file compression. The lower the image quality, the
smaller the file
size, and the reverse. To determine the best compromise
between size and
quality, try different settings.
Note: To change the object's compression setting, use the
Bitmap
Properties dialog box to set the bitmap export quality per
object. The
default compression option in the Bitmap Properties dialog
box applies the
Publish Settings JPEG Quality option.
Progressive Show Progressive JPEG images incrementally in a
web
browser, which makes images appear faster when loading with a
slow network
connection. Similar to interlacing in GIF and PNG images.
4.. Click OK.

I created an email form in my swf. It emails text from input
fields. I want to also include an image with the text. Does anyone
know how to do that?So first you must use BitmapData to export the data from
flash to some picture file with for example php is good. You can use
BitmapData.draw(Target) and after that to store all the pixels into
array and send to php there must generate new image file.I
recommend to use POST method because the array of pixels is too
long and when you dont have access to the php.ini file to change
the max send data for get the server send errors.Okey now i stop to
talk and i give you link to .fla file because is too long to
explain. This file is my project that you can get picture from the
camera and save into the server is simply application and i think
you can understand the chifly idea.So when you create your
application u must add some lines into php that send the picture
and message to email. Link to fla. -

The other way that i already say you is to upload file with
FileReference
LiveDocs
FileReference. And afcource the php see in this site into
comments very useful things about attachment and send via html
PHP Mail() Function
btw i forgot i have small problem with the colors sometimes
the new saveed picture has more green color. But i think this can
script can explain the idea :)

Saving Flash 7 SWF created in Flash 8
I understand from experience that viewing Flash 8 SWF files
on the Flash 7 Player results in text not showing up. The Flash 8
text is obviously superior, but unfortunately, a major contingent
of my viewers are too afraid, too naive, or their systems are too
messed up to upgrade their Flash Players from earlier versions.
Obviously, to solve the problem, I can save the SWF as Flash 7
backward compatible; however, I am more than disappointed with the
results of this solution. The main problems with this approach is
that the text looks week and the bitmap alignment is no longer
perfect when trying to intermingle my flash content with existing
background content.
Please someone help me with a better solution by providing me
with a list of parameters that need to be in place so that my Flash
7 files created in Flash 8 look more presentable.> Peter, as for a list of parameters, I mean precisely
what options should
I

There seems to be come confusion here. It's not a matter of
'checking off'
options, rather of publish settings. In the 'Publish
Settings' dialogue,
under the 'Flash' tab, 'Version', select 'Flash Player 7'.
the important
thing is not to use any *features* that depend on Flash
Player 8 - these
include (but are not limited to!) filters, any of the new
text rendering
options (custom anti-alias), any of the new Classes (geom,
filters, display,
external) etc etc etc.

Again, you are a bit confused I think. Obviously they will be
different than
if published for FP8 - that wasn't my point. What I said was:
> > If you are publishing for Flash Player 7, your text
and bitmaps will

MX2004.
So, using Flash 8 to author but publishing for FP7 will look
the same as
using Flash MX2004 ('Flash 7') to create your content. You
are saying your
bitmaps shrink "compared to when exported normally in Flash
8" - I never
mentioned publishing for Flash 8.

Well yes, of course. You said it yourself - you have exported
for FP7 -
playing it in FP8 won;t magically make it look better! For
that, you would
have to *publish* for FP8.
