Exporting to OMF for audio and After effect + delay in performance question

Hello
I have two questions.
First I have a problem with performance of FCP 5 I'm using a 500 GB firewire 800 external drive (not . Every time I hit the play button there is a delay of 2 seconds before playing my sequence I'm not sure why this is happening, I have a very basic sequence with one layer.
Second question - I'm trying to make FCP popular in my country but it is very hard since we work with OMF both in Protools and in After Effects. In Avid we exported media embedded OMF and also with audio. I know that there is an option to export OMF with audio but Protools has a hard time opening it. As for Video there is no choice, what can we do?
Thank you

  • Is (4770 3.5 i7 qouad core 8 mb cach) good enough for premier and after effect?

    Hi guys,
am buying the new imac 27" with its maximum features: 32 GB, 1 TB ssd, NVidia gtx 780 with 4GB, but I am worried about the cpu (4770 3.5 i7 qouad core 8 mb cach) is it good enough for premier and after effect?

Thanks John, but I've already read that page. I have just a simple question about the performance of "4 core" and "6core" if anyone had already tried both of them.

  • 27 inch iMac for editing and After Effects

Hey everyone. I'm a student who does heavy video and After Effects work. Right now my core 2 duo macbook pro is not cutting it when it comes to performance and render times.
Luckily, my budget is around $2200-2300 thanks to money I should have leftover from my college fund (thank you, mom and dad).
I was looking at the MacBook Pro 15 inch until I discovered the 27 inch imacs that are in the library multimedia center. The screen size is great because there's so much space to work with and details come out a lot clearer.
But from a hardware and price perspective, the 27inch imac with a quad core 3.1 ghz intel core i7, 1 tb hdd, and a 2gb AMD Radeon HD 6970m is around $100 LESS than the MacBook Pro with a quad core 2.4 ghz, 750 gb 5400 rpm, and 1 gb 6770m.
The only tradeoff is portability, but given the difference in spec, i'm starting to say its worth it.
I know that a lot of AE is dependant on CPU and lots of RAM per CPU. Upgrading to 16 gb of ram is getting cheaper and cheaper (it also helps that the imac has 4 ram slots). The iMac can actually support 32 gb of ram, so when that becomes available that is another nice plus.
So just doing the math, with 16 gb of ram that would be a 3.1 ghz quad core intel i7 with 4 gb of ram per core. 8gb of ram when upgraded to 32 gb of memory.
I'm not sure what Apple is gonna do with the next iMac refresh, so I will probably wait until then to make a decision.
Does anyone have experience with AE on the 27 inch iMac with similar specs?
    Many thanks,
    Dan.

Several other drawbacks to the iMac or any other all-in-one computer system:
    1) The GPU cannot be upgraded at all (at least not internally). In fact, iMacs cannot have their AMD (formerly ATi) GPUs disabled at all. And Premiere Pro CS5.x supports only NVIDIA CUDA GPUs for MPE GPU acceleration. (The current iMacs cannot be equipped at all with any GPU besides AMD/ATi.) Premiere Pro is thus forced to run in MPE software-only mode, which is much slower than with GPU acceleration.
    2) No iMac has any room at all whatsoever for more than one single fast internal hard drive. Unfortunately, the interface that the iMac employs, SATA, is only a half-duplex interface (which means that data transfers can only move in one direction at a time). But video editing requires a disk system that does simultaneous reads and writes - but with only one disk connected only by a half-duplex connection, the system must wait for a given block of read operations to be completed before any writes of a given data can even begin at all. This slows down overall editing and encoding performance substantially.
    3) Additional hard drives can be added externally - but the current external hard drive options available for the iMac are either very expensive or very slow. That's because the iMac has absolutely no USB 3.0 or eSATA capability whatsoever. The iMac has only USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt ports - but external Thunderbolt hard drives still cost nearly twice as much money per GB as other external hard drives, and USB 2.0 is limited in sequential transfers to only around 35 MB/s - far slower than the drives themselves are physically capable of (140 to 188 MB/s). Plus, of course, USB 2.0, like SATA, is only half duplex.

  • Dynamic Link for Premiere and After Effects CS4 with Titles

I've created a Rolling Title in Premiere Pro CS4.  I'd like to create a Dynamic Link to bring the title into After Effects CS4 to add effects that will show up in Premiere.  I've watched a few video tutorials on Dynamic Link and read the documentation and tried a variety of permutations but can't seem to get this done.
Also saw something in these forums about problems using Dynamic Link with Titles (as opposed to regular clip??)
And something about Premiere and After Effects projects being saved together ??in same folder - is that correct?
So, could someone explain if this can be done and the right way to do it?
    Thanks

Thanks Mylenium - appreciate the quick and focused reply.
I would like to keep the benefits of the Premiere Pro Titler (to play with the length of time by stretching or squashing the Title block on the timeline; to type in time to stay on screen at end; ease in and out etc . . .).  If I do render out a png / tiff / or psd sequence with alpha, and bring that into AFX to play with.  Will I still retain the ability to use the Titler features in Premire Pro, or do I essentially have to convert it to 'regular footage' on reimport as opposed to a 'Title?"
    Thanks

  • DPX export settings in PR Pro and After Effects

Hey, I really need some advice, I'm having so much hassle with my colour exports.
Basically, I exported a project from premiere pro in DPX format. I just used the preset for 1080 25p (full range 8 bit) I also tried maximum depth but the result was even worse...
I then brought the DPX sequence into AE, did my colour grading and exported it as a DPX sequence again.
After bringing that DPX sequence back into PR again and exporting the entire project I'm finding that I have these rings of colour and noise, mostly where the light is strongest, and it's only really noticeable if you know it's there but it's just annying me so much. Exporting the sequences can take up to 14 hours because it's quite a long project, so you can imagine my frustration when I realize it's not perfect and has to be done again.
If you know what I'm doing wrong, or if you know the best settings to export with using DPX, or indeed if there is another format better for coloug grading I'd consider you a life saver.
p.s. I'll insert an image showing exactly what the problem is.
    THANKS!

I just heard that DPX/Cineon was the best format to use for lossless colour grading. I also was starting to learn speedgrade, which uses DPX as it's main format. This is the first time I've attempted using any codecs specific to colour grading before. I used to export as AVI or quick time and grade that...
One of the problems i'm having is that I'm shooting on the 5D mk ii, which doesn't have anything near the colour depth of somethig like the scarlet..
I did figure out however, how to get rid of those lines. In AE down the bottom of the project tab, where the new compositions button is, there's also a colour settings button where you can change the sequence bit rate and output settings. So I got rid of the lines, but not I'm having issues with the output being over exposed in some places, and under exposed in others. But that's probably becuse of the limited colour space of DSLR's..

  • Importing and exporting between Final Cut Pro and After Effects

    Hi,
I'm exporting PAL widescreen footage from FCP to AE, adding some fx, and then exporting back to FCP. I am rendering both ways as a QT with no compression. For some reason, the footage is coming back to FCP a little more blurry than the original footage. Can anyone please suggest how to keep the image quality the same as the original?
    Thanks!

    Sure, anytime.
But we've been seeing some posts about problems going between the workspaces. These color and contrast issues may or may not be related to changing color spaces from Animation to your PAL format or they may have some other cause.

  • Fix for crash in After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 when Joesoft Hear audio enhancer installed

After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 both can crash due to a conflict with the Joesoft Hear audio enhancer.
We've just gotten confirmation from Joesoft that they've released a beta version of Hear that doesn't conflict with After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5. We're recommending that our customers who also use Hear install the 1.0.5b2 (build 490) beta version of Hear.
Let us know on this forum thread whether this solution works for you. We on the After Effects and Premiere Pro teams will monitor this thread for feedback, and we'll make sure that the folks at Joesoft get the information that they need, too.
When reporting back, be sure to let us know whether you've installed the Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.2) update and After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update.

After 2 days trying to get AE and Premiere past the mediacore initialization message, I finally stumbled on this little message.  Updating Hear definitely solves the problem!

  • Exporting layers of audio from After Effects  cs6 to Premiere / or Audition? Is this possible?

exporting layers of audio from After Effects  cs6 to Premiere / or Audition? Is this possible?
Help - I have an After effects project with multiple layered files and want to copy these to Premiere / Audition. For example I know if you select multiple video files from After Effects these can be pasted straight into Premiere intact - but this does not work with audio. I want to take existing layered audio files from After Effects to Audition / or Premiere but can't copy and paste - is there a simple solution for this?

Hi thanks Dave for responding - yes that could work as a 'workaround' -  I was hoping there would be a way I can keep the existing independent audio layers and corresponding audio levels from After Effects- in the same way I can copy and paste video files from After Effects to Premiere - rather than exporting a flattened AIFF /WAV from After Effects.
This would then allow me a lot more control working on the final edit - especially as currently a lot of the audio layers overlap. It does seem there is no simple solution for this, so  otherwise I can do what you suggest - and 'stagger all the audio files' in sequence so they do not overlap on the timeline and then when I import the flattened exported AIFF file into Audition/ Premeire / I then can cut it up again and recreate the overlaps. Was hoping there might be a simple copy + paste method or other 'export method' but I guess this is simply not possible. It would save me about 7 hours of work, but not the end of the world I guess
One final point - some of the audio clips are .mp3s but the majority are WAVS, hopefully this should not create any issues on the export.
thanks again for your help, if you or anyone has any other solution pls let me know
    Best
    Alex

  • Why is Dynamic Link between Premiere Pro CC 2014 and After Effects CC 2014 not syncing audio changes?

When I try to use a Dyamic Link between something I've cut in Premiere and a composition in After Effects, if it is simply an audio level change it will not update in AE.  Only if I alter the Video track does it then take the changes reflected.  Any suggestions as to what is causing this?
Running Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and After Effects CC 2014.

As Dave alludes, AfterEffects is all about the visual changes ... or at least, mostly. For changes to the audio outside of PrPro's internal controls, highly suggested you use Audition instead. It is all about the sound ... and yes, will update PrPro when used correctly.

  • HELP - Choose mid specs laptop for video editing in Premiere and After Effects

    Hello there,
Basically I have DSLR Camera (Canon 600D) which I use to film in Full HD (1080P 50fps) for my movies (short plays and medium plays).
So, I am thinking to buy a laptop with main porpouse to edit my videos in Premiere CS6 and After Effects CS6 and I would like to ask you guys if you can help me choose one. Maximum I could spend is 1000€.
So, I don't care how much time my laptop will take to export movies, but what is most important to me is smooth editing ( fast pre-rendering). I know that pre-render / in software render uses Nvidia CUDA cores to acelerate the process.
    I choosed these two laptops:
    ASUS K750JB:
    Intel i7 4700HQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
    12GB RAM 1600mHz
Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores <<< ---- can this one do the job done?
1TB 5400RPM <<<--- I am thinking on buying 60GB SSD extra for OS and Adobe Programs
    17.2'' Screen 1600x900
    Price: 799€
    HP Envy 15-j011sp:
    Intel i7 4700MQ 2.4 - 3.4GhZ
    8GB RAM 1600mHz <<<---- I could buy 4GB extra
    Nvidia GT 740M 2GB DDR3 384 Cuda Cores
    1TB 5400RPM <---- I could buy 60GB SSD extra
    15.6'' Screen 1920x1080
    Price: 810€
So, as you saw, Two of these laptops have 740M Graphic card. Asus is parcially alluminun, but  HP is totally alluminum.
Do you think these two are good for edit videos from my DSLR camera? As I said, I don't care how much time it takes to render movie. What is most important to me is editing smooth experience.
    Thank you!

Do either of these laptops allow you to install a second drive?  This ASUS G750 that I am using now does and it made a world of difference when I cloned the OS/Applications disk from the 1 TB 5400 rpm drive to a 128 GB fast SSD and installed a second 256 GB SSD (both are Samsung 840 PRO SSD's).  Without doing that I am quite sure you will be disappointed.especially with your media from a DSLR.  See the excellant article by Harm on laptops

  • I am using logic to record a podcast and using soundboard to use as a playback for music and sound effects.  I'd like to soft patch sound board into logic, and still use my interface for recording audio from the other members of the podcast.

I am using logic to record a podcast.  I have a presonus firestudio mobile for my interface so I can record several people at the same time.  I'm also using Soundboard for a playback system for music and sound effects.  I'd like to know how to soft patch Soundboard into Logic while still using the Firestudio interface to record the other members of the podcast.  Does anyone know how to do this? and if so can you tell me how to do it?  Thanks.

Thanks. Now, since Apple failed to provide an audio in jack for their new and improved iMacs (mine has one), all I can suggest is that you contact AppleCare, since you have 90-dqy free phone support. If need be, you might reconsider your purchase, but that's for you to decide.

  • Hi,I have a CC Photoshop membership that I pay $9.99/month for. I'd like to upgrade to include Premiere and After Effects

Hi, I have a CC Photoshop membership that I pay $9.99/month for. I'd like to upgrade to include Premiere and After Effects in my membership, but the only option it gives me is to purchase the full creative cloud membership (which I am happy to do) and pay a one-time payment of $600 or so (which I can't afford). Is there any way I can pay this in the same way I've been paying for my CC Photoshop membership - month-by-month? Thanks!

    Hi Matt
I've processed the switch.  Please sign out from the CC desktop app and sign in again to activate the new plan - Sign out, Sign in | Creative Cloud Desktop app
You will be charged A$49.99 today for the new plan and receive a refund for A$8.06 for the unused days on the original plan.  You will then be billed on the 3rd of each month going forward.
Please let me know if you have further questions and thanks for upgrading today!
