Extending keyframes for sound clip
Hi,
I'm using Flash CS4, and I cannot figure out how to extend
the keyframes for a sound clip to run the length of the timeline.
How can I do this with ease in CS4? In previous versions, after you
drop the sound clip onto the stage, it appears in the time line but
stops at a certain keyframe even though the sound clip is much
longer than what's appearing visually. Typically, you click the
last keyframe, hold down and then drag and continue to do so until
your sound line "runs out". CS4 won't let me do that, it skips a
load of frames and then starts up again.
I need to view the entire sound clip on the timeline; how?
Thanks!
Hi
I convert all to
• .aiff 16-bit 48kHz - or -
• .aiff 44.1kHz (Audio-CD) - THIS Especially when needing Audio from iTunes ! ! - as this cut's of the DRM flag which often results in mute DVDs when not excluded.
I do not use any .mp3 or Direct from iTunes as they most often give me problems - but converted to .aiff they work greatly.

Is there a nudge or move key? for sound clips?
I am trying to sink (right spelling?)screams to a video... Exactly in place. I am using the multitrack viewer and zooming in, but cant seem to nudge the sound clips that tiny bit, .. is there a nudge key?
hey there anita,
you can use the arrow keys or magnify/zoom the timeline(i think in the lower left corner) to make it easier to slide clips around to where you want them.
good luck. -
what are the format for sound clip to be inserted to a video?

Loading Sound Clips For Swing Application
I have searched all the forums, din't find what i want.
I have many small sound files to be played in my application. Even on mouse Pressed, Drage etc etc....
Now I was looking for a better way of Loading the Sound files in memory as the application starts.....
If I use the Clip Interface of javax.sound and initilize them and open a stream, invoke the open() method, and store it in hashmap. So that when ever i need that file i will lookup for that clip and trigger the start() method which actually plays the sound. IS the approach the right approach, will not the Cip object keep the IO handle open, I have nearly 40 Clips to be loaded.
Can any one suggest me the better way of implementing this.
TIA
ZohaPlease be aware that this is a 4 day long weekend in some parts of the world and the day after a 3 day weekend in much of the rest, so patience please.
On your sound question, you have control of the AudioInputStreams and can close them as needed, you should check to ensure that there aren't a lot of unwanted threads hanging around. If the clips are short and encoded in PCM format you could use the Applet.AudioClip class, your code doesn't need to be an applet. -
How do you move a sound clip in the timeline?
I have not had this problem before. I have put many songs into the timeline, and repositioned them. Today I pulled up a project and attempted to reposition a song to fit in better with the clip, and I'm unable to do so. I can't select the song, or anything else. Obviously I have set or locked up this track, and I can't figure out how to unlock if that is what I have done. I have 6 songs on that track, Audio track 2, and I can't reposition any of them. I can't even remove them from that track. What am I doing wrong?
Hunt, most of my music files, over 9000 songs, are mostly mp3 files and a few are wma, and because of copyright laws I wouldn't use them in a commercial project I'm working on anyway. When I am working on a project for a client I will generally use higher quality WAV files. This project was being done just to learn some new techniques, gain some more experience with PPCS4, and expand my knowledge with the program. I have this huge number of music files and styles to work with, so I can do a great deal of experimentation to see what different songs can do to the mood of the video.
As a test, I did put the exact same songs into the timeline on a different audio track. The problem track is audio 2, and I duplicated those songs on audio 3. I did the exact same editing. I faded them in and out the same as before. Split one song into 3 sections had parts of it come in and out over a video section of 9 minutes duration. They are working perfectly. I was just working on one section of that project a half hour ago, and I was still able to select and move each of the four songs on that track any way that I wanted to. However, the track just above it in that same timeline, Track 2, is still frozen.
Hunt, just a moment ago I solved my problem. Still not being that familiar with the program, two days ago I know that I was playing with all of the controls, and I obviously hit one of them without knowing one of its side effects. I hit the show "show track keyframes". I'm sure that you know it, but I didn't realize that when that function is selected, you can't do much else with the track but play with those keyframe. Even though I didn't have the track locked, in the traditional way, it was still, for all practicall reasons, locked. I unchecked that function and now everything is back to normal again on that track.
Something very simple, as many things turn out to be when you understand it. However, maybe someone else will make the same mistake, and my posting here will help them.
I will use your suggestions for using .WAV files. Thank you again.

Subject: How do you move a sound clip in the timeline?
Terry,
What is the purpose of using the .WMA files? I'm sure that you have a good reason, but they can be problematic, at best. I only use them as a trasfer medium, when I need to get a DD 5.1 SS soundtrack into Audition for editing. There, I break them out into 6 discrete .WAV files, edit in Multi-track Mode and then usually Export as the 6 discrete WAV's to be encoded to DTS, or similar.
If you do not have a compelling reason for using the .WMA, try PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit and see if the issues go away.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes please,
Hunt

Simple problem, and I hope there's a simple fix . . . I have
a sound clip running at the start of a Flash presentation. At some
point, I need the first one to stop so I can start the second one.
I know there's a difference between "stream" and "event" and all,
but I'm having no success getting the first one to stop so it
doesn't play over the second one.
Suggestions?MBKrebs,
> They were audio assets dragged to the timeline.
In that case, think of it like this: Stream sounds are
locked in-step
with the timeline they're in. Let's say you drag an asset
from the Library,
put it in a frame, and configure it as Stream. Let's say the
audio clip is
30 seconds long. Your movie is set for 12fps, so 30 seconds
would require
360 frames to fully play the audio. If your span of frames is
shorter than
that, the audio will stop early. If the playhead stops before
the full span
of frames, the audio will stop earlier (and reconvene when
the playhead
starts again).
If that same audio's entry keyframe is configured as Event,
the sound
only needs a single frame to play. Big difference!
Stream sounds are often used for lip synching, as as for
cartoons.
There's no way to guarantee such tight synching with Event
sounds. The
timeline will play as fast as it can on a given user's
machine, and might
fall out of step with the audio.

The ActionScript route isn't especially hard, but it differs
based on
what version of ActionScript you're using. If you're
interested in that,
let me know.
Totally aside, your name reminds me of someone I knew, years
ago, in
Manitoba (MB), whose last name was Krebs.

ZohaAs far as I know,there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
Check it in the later releases of JDK. -

Sending sound clips in a media message
i have the NOKIA N70 and i need to know why i get the message unable to insert , object format not supported when i try to send a sound clip by a multimedia message?
i have converted it to mp4 and acc and then i send them to my phone and that works fine but when i try to send them in a message it won't let me??I finally found that the Nokia Multimedia Player will convert various audio file formats (at least WAV and MP3) to AMR. The conversion will prompt you for the AMR size limit (MMS 95KB, unlimited, etc). Once converted, you can copy them to your phone and send as MMS.
Don't bother with Music Manager for this - it does not seem to handle AMR files even though there is an option to support opening these files. It will not display them. Just drag and drop or use Nokia File Manager.
The version of PC Suite I used for this was 6.83.14.1. i converted both an MP3 and WAV file to an AMR (MMS 95KB) and was able to send in an MMS.
Why does it have to be this hard!

Hi, I have just installed the Audigy 2 zs in my windows 7 32bit system which is an upgrade to my old Live! 5.1 digital. Before install of the new sound card I removed all previous drivers and software that pertained to the old card. Then installed the Audigy 2 card with latest official drivers and the latest version of Alchemy. Everything went well except when playing Halo: CE for PC, When playing in game with sound acceleration and EAX on I am getting what I can only call sound clipping when there is a lot of sounds being heard or I should say supposed to be heard, I am only hearing part of them with a clip and sometimes none of them. During the Start Menu the sounds come out fine, it only happens in game with a lot of stuff going on such as in the middle of a battle or just firing the assault rifle on full auto. I tried playing around with the settings in Alchemy but that did not work. I never had this problem with the Live! 5.1 card. Any and all help would be appreciated
I found this:
https://halo.bungie.net/Forums/posts...1-p=1#10350046
Install aLchemy.
Go to install location of aLchemy (default is C:\Program Files(x86)\aLchemy\) and add this into the "aLchemy.ini" file:
[Halo]
RegPath=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Micr osoft Games\Halo\EXE Path
Duration=5
[Halo CE]
RegPath=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Micr osoft Games\Halo CE\EXE Path
Duration=5
Two sugestions:
1. Experiment with the settings;
2. Use old Alchemy (take a look PM...). -
I have a E63 and I have been using using the record function to record information for a project
I am doing and untill now have had no problems, after deleting one of the clips in the "Gallery/soundclips folder that was no longer needed , I now find that I have no sound from the the sound clips that are still in the folder even though the indication that the clip is playing but if the clip is instantly replayed while still in the recording device, there is no problem and the sound clips can also to be heard if one uses them as a ring tones
I have not found so far if I have some how muted the sound clips and if so how do I turn them on.
There are no sound problems with any video clips that have be taken previously
Anyone got any ideas on my problem and how to correct for it
TIA mortdaManaged to finally solve my problem,it was amater of using the function key and using the scroll button to increase the sound

How to Download Sound Clips in Flash Player 9?
Some of our audio book publishers use the Adobe Flash Player
9 to offer sound clips. I am quite familiar with how to download,
to our audio books Web store, other types of sound clips such as
wma and mp3 but haven't figured out how to download the Flash
Player 9 files.
I would appreciate advice on how to download the Flash Player
9 sound clips.Go to this Adobe website to see what version you currently have: Flash Player Checker. Then there's a link on the page to send you to the download page for the latest version. This is the only page one should use to download and install the Flash Player.

I recently found YouTube had flaged a video for containing a "third party" sound clip. All clips I've used in videos for YouTube have come directly from Final Cut Pro X. Any idea if the sound clips are Fair Use? I'm not sure how to repsond to YouTube and don't want to get a mark against my account due to this.
You can pretty much forget about monetizing that specific video.
[Okay... I'm going to ramble now...]
To avoid problems with youtube, you need to post a copyright (like this: @2013 by Your Name) on the video (I recommend within the first 10 seconds) -- and you better have it *right*. If you use other audio and video, as long as you have secured the proper permissions for use, you can still claim a copyright to the video you post on YouTube -- it is your creation (but it better not be a single clip of somebody else's work being passed off as something you did -- just to be clear -- your videos need to have original content that you created in order to justify the © you put on it. If you use *other stuff* as long as it's *with* permissions, it's still your video.) [If your video is going to be monetized -- make absolutely sure you have that permission for *commercial* use! Quite a lot of sources will specify that their materials *cannot* be used for any commercial use without further permissions, if at all. With Apple Loops (pro apps music and sound) you do have that express permission to be used in commercial works as long as it follows the EULA. More below.)]
You also need to specify the music and/or sound effects are "licensed from Apple Computer and used with permission" and you might as well state they are "made with Apple Loops". YouTube understands the EULA of the Apple Pro software (Logic, STP, FCP/FCPX, etc...) -- but even Apple licensed all that stuff from outside sources. Apple just takes care of paying "them" for it in advance so you don't have to (you buy it with the cost of the software license.)
You cannot use any of the "music beds" by themselves, in their entirety (all those nice long demo pieces everybody likes so much and you hear several times a day on [local] TV commercials). The EULA actually specifically states this (although you might have to read it two or three times until it becomes clear...LOL). Even loops are not to be released "as is", in their entirety, in any "derivative work". So, basically, make sure some other sound is mixed in with it (if it's music, add drums or other percussion, harmony, or duck it under talking, etc...)
The point is, no matter what audio source you have, if it is *music* (or foley) and EVEN IF you are the creator of that music or sound effect, you need to specifically put it in writing IN the video (not in the description). You need to reference the source (e.g.: stock footage by BottledVideo.com) and state it's being used with (or by) permission. [According to YouTube: I have copyright infringed MYSELF!!! just for leaving out all this *stuff* from my subsequent videos (music that I composed and performed myself on guitar... I was livid... but it stuck!).]
I can pretty much guarantee that within minutes of posting your video (if it is monetized) -- some real live person at youtube puts eyes on that video to make sure it is properly "signed". I can tell by how long it takes for the monetize checkmark to go from dark to light green -- usually less than 10 minutes.
If your video is not monetized, and it's not a blatant violation, they probably will let you off with a warning, tell you that you don't need to do anything "right now" and it won't count as a mark against you... If it IS monetized, it won't be - they'll turn it right off and your chances of winning a challenge are almost 0 (unless you can PROVE you own the material -- and I have won a challenge -- see * below); and you will probably see a "Copyright Notices" (or similar) item in the menu on your channel settings. If you can redo the video - pull the old one, put in the new info and re-up it. It's a royal PITA, but in this day and age, it's a necessity.
All videos destined for youtube should be treated as mini motion pictures and be prepared as such with full "disclosures" in titling... Welcome to 21st Century Pox [This statement is not meant to be derogatory to 21st Century Fox or imply any association or criticism or slander, and is only to be intended to be received as a parody on a common phrase that is currently still in use... No words were harmed in the formation of this pun.]
Get the point? YouTube tries to tell everybody -- but they've done a pretty lousy job of doing it. It's taken me, oh, I guess a year or so to learn to "behave" after wandering through a mire of confusing information from too many different sources -- and even if I am the sole producer of 100% of all the content in the video, I *still* have to place that © and "commit" it; it is *not* taken on faith. I actually had to go back and reread all my licenses and interpret the legalese to figure it out. It would have been simpler if they just put it: Your video is a miniature professional production. Make sure it includes all titling to reflect all participants -- *just like you'd see in a modern major motion picture or a major broadcast television series* -- I think everyone would pretty much understand what that involves. You don't have to get quite that extreme, just cover you bases and your a©©.
I tried to cover it all... but I'm pretty sure I haven't... so... good luck!
*How I won my challenge with an Apple Loops composition:
1) the music, even though using "canned" loops, was an original complex composition (I'll argue theory with anyone about this... it will be based on limited sets and recombinants as well as the theory of instrumentation and timing. In other words - I massage the heck out of loops until they don't sound anything like the originals. I almost never use audio loops -- always MIDI.) [BTW - this was another instance of copyright infringing myself - I had used the same music in a previous video I produced a year or so earlier... when I, like you, thought I was "free" to use the clips as I saw fit.]
2) the music I used in the video was originally created in Logic and I made sure the ID3 tags were filled in with my name and copyright information
3) I have a YouTube Associated Website (think this is a "partner" thing... and google "sanctioned") but if you see it, make sure you associate your domain. [I think you might be able to create a Google+ account and associate a domain that way if it's not part of your YouTube settings.]
4) I uploaded the original mp3 with the ID3 tags to my associated domain.
5) in the challenge, I 1) attached the original mp3 (w/ID3 tags); 2) gave youtube a link to the copy on my associated website for *verification* that the files belonged to ME; (and they already had the URL to the video in question -- a basic 3 point verify.)
It worked. They accepted the verifcation. (And this was the first challenge I've been able to win.) [This was very recent. What about the others? I might get a chance to complete the verifications, but I know for some, I've used up my challenges. The only other option is to pull them and redo them...]
One last word of advice: It does not pay to get "huffy", indignant, or righteous with YouTube in a challenge. They don't care. <-- read that again a lot more slowly... They have their own behinds to take care of — and your video (and/or account) lives (or dies) by their grace. If you read that and infer that I have been those things, then yes, I have... to absolutely no avail... even though I thought I was right (to the best understanding I had at the time) — they have rules. Be respectful. In general, they're pretty relaxed about all this even though it might not look that way to many users. Once you get the rules down, everything goes a lot easier... even if it is a little more work. You have to take responsibility for your own work. -
How can I record a basic sound clip?
I am new to macs and switched from a pc recently, so please excuse me if this is a silly question, but I am totally stumped. I have been trying to record just a simple 20 second sound clip on my imac and cannot do it right. I recorded the sound clip in garageband (as I couldn't figure out any other way to get the built in microphone to record) and wanted to save the clip to upload to a website but am unable to save the file in QuickTime. Doesn't look like that can be done. I have only the software that came with the intel imac but I cannot believe that there is not a simple, easy way to record a sound clip and upload it to the web with all the wonderful software that come with this computer. I know I must be doing something wrong - somewhere!
So - what is the secret to recording a sound clip and saving the file so I can upload it to my website??
imac intel Mac OS X (10.4.8)You can record voice soundtracks in iMovie just as easily. Within iMovie, you CAN export to .mpg filetype. Be sure to check out the Help menu once you have iMovie running for info on how to record voice clips/voice overs.
If you are going to be doing much AT ALL with sound and video clips, you would benefit by purchasing a QuickTime Pro registration. It's only $29.00 and you will be using it over and over again. -
Making a sound clip sync with rest of movie.
So I solved this problem and realized I posted it under AS3 and it should have been here. So I figured it may help somone. All I did was change the setting to "Stream" under the properties panel for each sound clip!
Making sound sync with my controls
Hello all,
This is one of my first flash movies so bear with my inexperience!
I've made a slide show with three pieces of audio that are set up to play with certain images. So you can imagine when the video is paused but the sound continues playing everything gets a bit messed up.
I have each audio on a different layer and none of them overlap, just fade in/out to one another.
EDIT: Almost forgot, so how can I get the audio to stop/play along with the rest of the flash file when play/pause is clicked on. And can I skip forword/backward 15frames in the audio clip as I am doing with the images?
Here is the AS3 for the back button (gtmf) and foreword button (gtpf)
stop();
mc_content.stop();
gtmf.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gtmfs);
function gtmfs(event:MouseEvent) :void {
gotoAndStop(this.currentFrame-15)
mc_content.gotoAndStop(this.currentFrame-15)
pp.gotoAndStop(1);
gtpf.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gtpfs);
function gtpfs(event:MouseEvent) :void {
gotoAndStop(this.currentFrame+15)
mc_content.gotoAndStop(this.currentFrame+15)
pp.gotoAndStop(1);
The play/pause button is a movieclip symbol (pp) with two frames, each with their own AS3.
Play button (gogo)
stop();
gogo.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, goplaying);
function goplaying(event:MouseEvent) :void {
MovieClip(root).play();
MovieClip(root).mc_content.play();
gotoAndStop(2);
Pause button (halthalt)
stop();
halthalt.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, haltplaying);
function haltplaying(event:MouseEvent) :void {
MovieClip(root).stop();
MovieClip(root).mc_content.stop();
gotoAndStop(1);Yep, ain't that the truth....
Along with the randomness of the HTML elements in general, the relationship between the Flash and HTML are similarly 'independent'.
I was just wondering if there were some little tricks or methods used by web guys these days, as it seems like clever new techniques or new capabilities in CSS or Flash pop up from time to time.
Very odd, though... The interface graphics are very light, yet sometimes the page takes a few seconds to show, and the Flash appears right away (the opposite of what I'd normally expect, when things 'go wrong').
I still don't get why the SWF shows up (when the rest of the table doesn't), if the rule is true that a table won't show up unless all the content is available.
Is there some sort of weird exception if the content of a cell is Flash?
