External hard drive connected to my airport extreme will no longer open, when navigating to it in Finder, the Finder window quits and reopens, cannot access hard drive, it is visible in airport utility, since the problem began I have updated firmware on Extreme as well as both of my Airport Expresses. Hard drive is USB connected to Extreme.
Reboot the USB drive.. assuming it is powered.. or unplug and replug a self-powered drive.. (you should not use self-powered drives on AE before the latest model.. always use a powered hub).
Does the drive now appear in finder..
If not reboot both drive and the AE.. it should now appear.
If it doesn't work with direct connection try a powered hub.. that can help.

I did try to uninstall and reinstall. It messed up my computer. I had to "RESTORE" from the prior days backup. This was not helpful at all. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro due to Windows 8 malfunction with starting up. I am trying to reinstall as I am an owner of the Creative Suite CS6 and I cannot access my serial number. I purchased the software in 2013 and never registered i, apparently. When directed on Adobe's site to access the serial number, it takes me to an outside 3rd party site, which I tried but it does not actually work. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Airport Extreme will no longer let new user connect
The Airport Extreme will not allow new users to connect to via wifi. The users that are currently on the wifi are able to continue using the wifi, but new users cannot connect. I have tried resetting to the factory settings. But the problem has returned. I have a model A1408.

Bear with me please as I have never used the community before. I have an Airport Extreme 1st generation at least I think it is a 1st generation. My PC is hardwired and my Mac Pro, obviously wireless. I have 50/8 mbps service but the speeds on my PC run around 20/8 and 30/8 on the Mac. Cable says it is a problem with the airport since my PC speeds rise to 50 when the airport is disconnected. Does anyone know what to do?
The simplest way would be to perform a "soft" reset on the AEBS. This type of reset will temporarily disable all of the AEBS's passwords up to five minutes. This should give you ample time to access the AEBS with the AirPort Utility to change it.
If you don't want to actually change the password, then you can possibly retrieve the password from the OS X Keychain, as follows:
Run the Keychain Access utility found in \Applications\Utilities
In the category column (on the left side of the utilities' window), select "All Items."
In the right column look for your Network Name. It will have a "Kind" of "AirPort network password."
Double-click on your network name listing.
Click on "Show password."
Enter your Mac's administrator's password
Your wireless network's password should now be displayed. -
AirPort Extreme FTP port is open when doing Remote Port Scan
I have a question regarding the AirPort Extreme Base stations running firmware 7.7.3. Currently the AirPort is not port-mapping any services, however when I do a remote port scan of that particular AirPort I have noticed some TCP ports are open from the outside, such as FTP port 21, RTSP port 554 and ARCP port 7070. Why is that? I thought the AEBS blocks these services by default, unless otherwise configured to be open. Is this a vulnerability with the firmware?

Your 554 and 7070 may be open due to links to itunes store. It is not a big vulnerability since it is for streaming.
Port 21 is more a concern.. It is used internally by the AE apparently.. but I really do not know why. FTP as a protocol is not offered to the outside world. so you cannot connect to it and get info for files.. even if you have a hard disk plugged in. Why it should be open to the outside world I am not sure.
Do you have BTMM turned on? It may be involved with remote services.
If you are concerned it is not hard to fix.. port map those ports to a non-existent client in the network.. however your itunes store connection might stop working as well as some other things... that need those ports open.. There is also a good chance you cannot map them when they are used.. so do a factory reset and before you setup other applications or BTMM do the port map and see what happens.
You can also post the details to apple directly but I honestly doubt you are facing any big issues here. -
Prior to updating to V4, firefox worked perfectly with all my existing applications. After I updated it will not launch a browser page, even though the process is shown to be operable in the Task Manager. The same problem occurs on start-up of my computer, so there are no previous processes running.
I cannot launch the broswer at all so cannot try clearing the cache etc or other suggested troubleshooting solutions.In the Task Manager, make sure to check both the Applications tab and the Processes tab. On the Processes tab, Firefox may have two different components running: firefox.exe and plugin-container.exe. Well, in 3.5.11, it would be only the first one.

Hello. You need to change the energy use setting that computer uses max it out. Then it will work just fine. My is touchsmart 600-1050. The computer was preset to use minimum amount of electricity when in idle. I changed all the setting to high. Now every thing runs just like a Windows XP version computer. Thats how I got my screen savors to work. I also upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 7 Ultimate now I am able to run a lot more XP software. Test your pond screen saver make sure that working with windows open. That will tell you if it is a software issue if it doesn't work. That is the case then restore it from your D: drive.

I completed the iOS 5 upgrade and now cannot access my apps.

You can move your apps yourself. Two ways to do this. First, you can hold down any app icon until they all jiggle, then move them to whereever you want with your finger. The other way is to do it in the App pane of iTunes when your iPad is attached to your computer. -

Iphoto will no longer open when attaching my Canon Eos Camera. I have checked the camera and everything is working perfecty. When I open it myself, Iphoto is working perfectly too. But now when I attach the camera, Iphoto no longer opens at all. Yesterday it did open after a really long wait but it kept saying that it did not recognize the "format" of the images....they were jpegs??? Then it flashed on and off and if I hit download at just the right second they would download. But today it won't work at all. Any suggestions.

I have an older Airport Extreme (disc shaped) that we use with my wife's PowerBook (OS 10.5.8) and my MacBook Pro (OS 10.9.4). We currently only have Airport Utility on her Mac, but I want to upgrade the utility so I can use it on mine. Which version of the utility will work on my MacBook, and still control the older Airport Extreme?

Yes. Your G4 shouldn't have any difficulty connecting to a Wi-Fi network provided by the latest 802.11ac AirPorts as they support the earlier radio modes that the G4 uses. -

Here's what I had to do to make it work with the newest 7.3.1 firmware.
Ready for this? No Joke Really!
1. Connect your USB drive to the Airport Extreme.
2. Turn it on.
3. Open the Airport Utility.
4. Go to Manual Setup.
5. Choose Disks and File Sharing.
Yep, we are going to set file sharing before we even see the disk we want to share!
You (I) had to set File Sharing on and Share Disks over Ethernet checked as well as set the Work Group (In my case). THEN restart the Airport Extreme.
After it re-started... My USB Drive was now present and ready for use.
I also dis-allowed Guest access. I re-started ALL computers in my network, both Windows and MAC. The USB drive held and works GREAT!
I know... Most of you thought this was a joke, It's not!
I tried everything to get the USB drive to work and failed every time just like most other people. Doing it this way worked like a charm.
Go Figure huh!

My airport extreme will not connect to my toshiba router. I connected it to my office internet this morning but when I hooked it up at home it simply will not connect. I have tried resetting all the settings and have had no luck. It did work once upon a time. I currently have my airport express hooked up so I know there is connectivity.
I could never figure it out after trying everything I could and going to the genius bar I ended up just purchasing another extreme. The really funny thing is that I can set up a network between the two and it works fine. I am using it at work now with out any problems so I guess there is really no loss :-?
