External Java Procedure Errors

I'm trying to write an external Java procedure as per the white paper. It seems to start properly but always hangs on the first process activity. The state says active rather than deferred and the only thing the procedure does it update an attribute, which is not being done, so I don't think the procedure is being executed. There are no clues in the viewer; it thinks the process is active.
How can I tell what's going on? Is there any error message output or way to debug these external procedures so I can tell why the process is hanging here?

Robert,
WF_OUTBOUND queue is created during the WF install
(uses a ‘payload’ of system.wf_payload_t)
WF_INBOUND is created during the WF install
When the Workflow Engine comes across a ‘Java Function Activity’ it will put a message on the WF_OUTBOUND queue.
The ‘Java Function Activity Agent’ pulls the message off the WF_OUTBOUND queue, executes the java procedure and determines any results from that procedure and puts a message onto the WF_INBOUND queue.
The Workflow Background Engine should be run to process the message from the WF_INBOUND queue.
You should be able to query the queues to ensure that messages are being queued correctly.

  • Loading Java Procedure errors

    Hello all,
I am attempting to load a java stored procedure I have written. It depends on some javax libs that are outside of the normal java library. I loaded these external lists into the database as sys and granted my user execute privelages to the classes I load. I then try to load my class into the database and I get errors saying it can find the classes that I just loaded as sys. Is there some way that I can tell it to look in the sys schema to find these external libs or is there another step that I am unaware of?

Make sure the resolver can locate the class in the proper schema. Any
of the following approaches will suffice.
Best approach would be to create a public synonym on the loaded class.
a.) Creating a public synonym on the loaded class (via loadjava -s) to be used by
    other users
    For example,
    SQL> loadjava -user <user>/<pwd> -g Public -s -r mail.jar
NOTE: The public synonym could also be created via SQL.
b.) Modify the resolver spec for the JSP class so the resolver will
search the desired schemas for the problem classes. The resolver
can be established at load time (via loadjava -R) or modified at
the SQL command line (via ALTER JAVA CLASS).
Given below is difference between the Resolver in the database used to resolve classes and the CLASSPATH used by normal java environment.
    Resolver Spec vs. CLASSPATH
When compiling or running a traditional Java program, the CLASSPATH
environment variable determines which directories are searched when
resolving any external class references. If a class is referenced
which cannot be located in one of these directories, a compile-time
    or runtime exception is thrown.
On the server, a similar mechanism called a Resolver Spec is used.
The primary difference between the Resolver Spec and the CLASSPATH
environment variable is that a Resolver Spec specifies which users'
schema's to search (rather than which directories).
Another distinction between the Resolver Spec and the CLASSPATH is
that a Resolver Spec can be assigned on a per-class basis. That is,
each class can use a different Resolver Spec for resolving its own
external class references. The same behavior would be unwieldy or
impossible to emulate using the CLASSPATH environment variable.
The general form of a Resolver Spec is as follows:
    ((match_string schema_name) (match_string schema_name) ...)
where match_string is a Java fullname or wildcard matching one or
more Java classes and schema_name is the user's schema in which the
resolver should look for those classes. The schema's specified are
searched in left to right order.
The default Resolver Spec is as follows:
    ((* definer's_schema) (* public))
which specifies that, for all classes, the resolver should first search
the owner's schema and then all public classes (e.g. standard classes).
NOTE: If you decide to specify your own Resolver Spec, it replaces
the default. Omitting the (* public) can result in problems
resolving classes that reside in the standard packages

  • Java stored procedure vs. PL-SQL vs. external java program

    Hi,
I'm using a stored procedure for running a query and a few consequent updates. Currently I'm using Java stored procedure for that, which was my choice for simplicity on one hand, and running with the DB on the other.
In my tests, strangely enough it came out that running as java stored procedure was 3-4 times slower than running as a java program outside the database. I don't know how to explain this, and I wonder if switching to PL/SQL will improve the performance of the code.
    Any experiences? recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Dawg

In my tests, strangely enough it came out that running as java stored procedure was 3-4 times slower than running as a java program outside the database. I don't know how to explain this, and I wonder if switching to PL/SQL will improve the performance of the code. This isn't strange at all. See: Oracle's JVM (Aurora) is an independent Java Virtual Machine implementation, in accordance to specification. It implements all necessary parts of it (I think so). When you use an external JVM (I assume it's Sun's HotSpot JVM) you use completely different product. It is implemented in different way, it has many different code parts.
One of the biggest differences between Oracle's JVM and Sun's JVM is [Just-in-Time compiler|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_compilation]. Oracle has implemented it only in the 11g version of database, i.e. 2 years ago, while Sun performed it back in 2000 and continues to improve it for the last 9 years. That would explain obvious differences between Java program inside and outside the DB: they are executed in absolutely different worlds. Diffs could be up to 10x times or more - that's not unusual.
If you are on 10g and want to compare performance of stored Java procedure vs external program, then you might use additional command-line instruction for external program to disable JIT:
-XintPS. I wouldn't use Java for your task - that's a total overkill. Use simple SP instead.

  • Error 03113 while executing java procedure with pl.sql

    Hi All,
I am using oracle 10g on linux server. Client machine is on xp. I hava a java procedure which executes the sqlldr on server. Earlier it was working fine, but after reinstalling the oracle 10g on server. It started giving "end of Communication channel error". I am not aware that what paramete has to set. Can some body put light on this error.
    Bye
    Sachin

    According to the documentation:
ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number string with name "string" too small
Cause: Rollback records needed by a reader for consistent read are overwritten by other writers.
Action: If in Automatic Undo Management mode, increase the setting of UNDO_RETENTION. Otherwise, use larger rollback segments.
Error: ORA-01555: snapshot too old (rollback segment too small)
Cause: This error can be caused by one of the problems, as described below.
Action: The options to resolve this Oracle error are:
This error can be the result of there being insufficient rollback segments.
A query may not be able to create the snapshot because the rollback data is not available. This can happen when there are many transactions that are modifying data, and performing commits and rollbacks. Rollback data is overwritten when the rollback segments are too small for the size and number of changes that are being performed.
To correct this problem, make more larger rollback segments available. Your rollback data for completed transactions will be kept longer.
This error can be the result of programs not closing cursors after repeated FETCH and UPDATE statements.
To correct this problem, make sure that you are closing cursors when you no longer require them.
This error can occur if a FETCH is executed after a COMMIT is issued.
The number of rollback records created since the last CLOSE of your cursor will fill the rollback segments and you will begin overwriting earlier records.

  • End Of communication Error while executing java procedure (Urgent)

    Bye
    Sachin

This is the most frequently asked question from Oracle developers.. Never mind putting some light on this error, I want to put it alight! ;-)
First thing. It is not The Error. It is a sympton of an error.
This message does not come from the database. It comes from the client OCI (of JDBC) drivers - which suddenly discovered that the Oracle connection (usually a TCP socket connection) has been torn down at the server side. It attempts to write to that socket, only to find that the other party has hung up.
Why has the other party hung up? That party is either a Dedicated Server Process or a Dispatcher Process. If a dedicated server dies (crashes), it will take its socket handles with it to The Great Recycle Bin In The Sky. If you was serviced by a shared server and it died, the Dispatcher (who handles the TCP comms for it), will automatically close that shared server's connection.
Usually when a process dies on the Oracle server, it leaves behind an error in the alert log, and trace files. That is where you will find the inklings of what The Error was that caused your client to get the EOF on comms channel message.

    grtz,

    I remember rec. similar errors.
If you are writing a simple code based on the code shown in the workflow guide, looks like you have included some statements which are invalid at run time. examine your code and try to remove all unnecessary statements. write a very simple piece of code by just inserting only the required statements and the error will vanish.
    hope this helps

  • Export Java-based external stored procedure

I've got a properly deployed external Java-based stored procedure deployed properly. I can see it by querying user_objects as well as user_java_classes. Is there any way I can export it so that I can deploy it in a different database? Please note that I mean a different way than performing a complete export, I just want to selectively export this external procedure.
    Thanks, Tom

I would think that the following would work:
    expdp user/password directory=my_dir dumpfile=java.dmp include=java_source
This would export the java source for the user performing the export. If you need to export java_source for another user, you would have to add
    schemas=other_schema
Adding the other schema would only work if the user running the job was privileged.

  • Work with result of a select in an external Java Program

    Hi!
i would like work with a field of a select in a external java program. I give you an example:
i want copy a table into another table, but i want do a little modification (before insert action) in one parameter via Java class wich parameter is a field in the select.
    Example:
    i've two tables:
    TABLE_BACK (ID, CARACT)
    TABLE_NEW (ID, CARACT)
and i've a java Method in an external class com.upc.myClass.modifyCaract(String paramS)
Then, before insert a row in table_new, i want do a transformation in Caract field from table_back. I want do something like this:
INSERT INTO TABLE_NEW (ID, NAME) ( SELECT ID, <%=com.upc.myClass.modifyCaract('I WANT HERE CARACT FIELD FROM TABLE_BACK') FROM TABLE_BACK )
is it possible? how can i do it?
    Thanks!!

    Hola Valdomir,
Que tal estas? Ya ha empezado el calor en Barcelona ? jejejejejejej
Well, I think to be possible do what you need.
    1) In a procedure step, at source tab query the values, something like:
select caract as MY_CARACT from TABLE_BACK
    2) at target tab, use the tags "<@ @>" to import the java class (after put it in the correct ODI directory).
    3) at same target tab, after the tag just write (as your example):
    INSERT INTO TABLE_NEW (ID, NAME) ( SELECT ID, <@=com.upc.myClass.modifyCaract('I #MY_CARACT) FROM TABLE_BACK )@>
I think this will be enough....
    Un saludo,

Says it all. Exposure on the Net doesn't mean quality.
Burleson code usually has not been tested, is not robust, and quite often doesn't work.
Why didn't you implement run_cmd, as suggested earlier?
    THAT works!

The class the error message is referring to is defined with a SWC that my project links to. However, I've even tried to define a class with that same name (and location) within my project and it still fails to find it.
Why am I able to Project->Clean and run this project within the desktop AIR player (or on the device in debug mode) but unable to export it as a release build?
I have found a couple of threads mentioning a similar error but none of them have been marked as resolved.

At this point I feel I am talking to myself, but I will share my work-around in case it helps another who may stumble across this post.
In my particular case, both my main AIR application and my ANE wrapper library were referencing the same external Flex library (same revision). Both projects had the library linkage set to merge. Changing the linkage to "External" on one of the 2 libraries (it doesn't seem to matter which) and leaving the other as "Merged into code" enabled the export to complete without the bizarre "Unable to find named traits" error.

  • Calling stored java-procedure in Oracle9i Lite from ODBC

    I've got a problem:
I try to call a stored java-procedure through ODBC. The stored
java-procedure in Oracle 9i Lite is called successfully from
server console (MSQL). When I call my stored java-procedure from
my web-application (ASP) through ODBC connection (ODBC drivers
are from Oracle 9i Lite set V3.51) the server returns an error
(Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [POL-
8000] could not start the Java Virtual Machine),
however 'select' without java-procedure calls works
successfully. PATH and CLASSPATH variables are properly set up.
    File jvm.dll is present.
    Can anybody help me?

  • JRE 1.4.2_02 on solaris: java.lang.error

    Hi,
I've just installed JRE 1.4.2_02 on a server running Solaris 8. The installation procedure went by without problems/errors (as described on Sun's pages: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/jre/install-solaris.html)
When I try to execute java.exe (i.e: java -version) I get the following error response:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java.lang.Error: Properties init: Could not determine current working
    directory.
If I log in as root I'm allowed to run java.exe without problems. I'd really appreciate any ideas, views, comments etc. on what might be the problem ...
    /Regards Jennifer Lee

I've posted this a couple oif other places today as well, but essentially it may help
I had the 'Error occured ..., VM' problem after installing 1.4.2_01 on Linux under slackware9.1.
I found the resolution by running 'java -verbose' as root and as a user and comparing the output, as java ran fine for root.
Turns out that for the user 'java -version' stopped after loading a couple of jars, and as root it didn't.
These jars in the JAVA_HOME/jre/lib directory only had root read/write permissions. After changing these permissions to all read and root write it worked fine for the user (so far)
The above may be of some help, but comparing the differences (especially permissions) in running it as root and user with -verbose may help.

  • Calling a external Java method from JSP - using Tomcat server

    Hi all,
I am trying to call a method in an external Java file from my JSP. I am using Tomcat server.
I have my class within the package package "mypackage" and it is called myclass.class. It has only one static method mymethod() which reads from a file and writes to a file.
I compiled the java class and I put the class file under webapps/ROOT/web-inf/classes/mypackage/myclass.class
I am trying to say something like this from my JSP file(which is under webapps/ROOT) :
    <%@ page import = "mypackage.myclass"%>
    <% myclass.mymethod(); %>
I am not instatiating the class as its a static method.
This is what I get while accessing my jsp file :
javax.servlet.ServletException: try to access class mypackage.myclass from class org.apache.jsp.index_005ftest_jsp
To put my problem in a nutshell, Can someone guide me how to access a method of an external class from a JSP page? I have a bunch of pages doing the same operation so I thought I would have it in a method and call it from every page. Even though I tried to put the file under web-inf/classes, The JSP is not able to see the class.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    -Uday

I have a situation that is a bit similar. I have successfully used beans for storing methods used in JSPs and used by other methods in the same class as was suggested above. Now I would like to break some methods into another (utility) class since they are lower level and can be used by lots of things. They are for database operations (given a String query and String dbname, it queries and returns ResultSet for example). I want to have them in a separate class for reusability and OOP.
I am having problems calling those public static methods in the public class from my bean that communicates with the JSP. I can't compile the class that calls the method in the database ops class. I get an error like :
    loginHelper.java:45: cannot find symbol
    symbol : variable sqlHelper
    location: class dbHelperBean.loginHelper
and when I include the package name in the call I get
    loginHelper.java:45: cannot find symbol
    symbol : class sqlHelper
    location: package dbHelperBean
That's strange since the package of both classes is dbHelperBean and the class is indeed called sqlHelper. I tried to compile it in the same directory as sqlHelper as well. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Multiple Data Sources and Accessing External Java APIs

    Hi Everyone,
I have a couple of questions for which I was not able to find satisfactory answers in the forum search, so here they are. I would be really grateful if you can help us out with this.
    1. Accessing two Data Sources in the same report: We have a requirement to access two data sources in the same report, and use the data from one source to run a query on the other source. Our product (OIM) has its own DB. And it integrates with BPEL (another Oracle application) for some functionality. BPEL has its own DB. A few reports need data from both these repositories. For simplicity, consider that we need to join two tables, but one table is in OIM DB and the other is in BPEL DB. I guess such a join is not possible. So to work around it, we would like to run a query against one DB and then use the results to run a query on the other DB, which will basically simulate the join by running two queries.
Is something like this possible in BIP? If not directly available, can you suggest something which can act as a work around to achieve this?
    2. Calling External Java APIs from BIP: We need to call some external APIs (for achieving Data Security) 'before' we run the queries in BIP. Basically the Java API will specifya set of keys which will have to be used in an 'in' clause. I looked at the section "Building a Data Template" in the BIP User's Guide (http://bipublisher.us.oracle.com/doc/prod_docs/BI_Publisher_10_1_3_3_3/bip.1013/b40017/T421739T434255.htm). As far as I can see, it discusses how to invoke a PL/SQL procedure using <datatrigger> but the usage is not clear to me. Is there any other document that discusses this in detail? Also, I am not sure if it is possible to access Java APIs. Has it been done before? If yes, then can anyone provide some sample code (sample report bits) which I can refer to to get this thing working?
Also, the data coming from the Java API may not be in the correct format. We may have to do some additional processing (like converting data in a Java Object to something like comma separated list to be plugged into a query). Is that possible? What will be the best approach here?
    Sorry for the detailed post!
    Thanks,
    Jatan

Yes you should be able to use both - for example using a Flash Variable to pass in the URL of the XML that you want to load.
FlashVars are only supposed to be passed in on startup and they are defined as part of the OBJECT/EMBED tag for the HTML.
Actually it was possible to update FlashVars at runtime in Xcelsius 4.5 with certain JavaScript calls but not in Xcelsius 2008 (because Adobe Flex which Xcelsius 2008 is based on does not allow the same mechanism).
FYI, for those that are interested in Xcelsius 2008 you pass values into/out of Xcelsius at runtime using External Interface and JavaScript instead.
