I've saw a few topics talking about problems with external screens and vista.
I've got a big problem, i bought a screen (iiYama 24") and when i connect it to my Macbook on the DVI port, it works fine when i'm running leopard, but when i'm running vista, i don't manage to put the image on the screen. Can anyone help me please?

I learned that the Dock is positioned at the chosen edge of whatever Display is positioned farthest to that side. E.g. for the Dock to be positioned on the right side of the Cinema Display (instead of the right side of the MacBook), the Cinema Display must be oriented (by dragging) to the right of the MacBook monitor on the "Arrangement" tab of the Displays Preference Panel.

Apple can fix any and all of their computers. Whether it would be charged to you would be the question. Do you have AppleCare?

How can I get rid of The Grey screen and boot my macbook?

Today I was on my MacBook Pro (bought July 2011) and it went to a blank blue screen. I powered it off and tried to restart it. It loaded the apple and spinning circle but it went to a grey screen and froze there. I've read and tried a lot of different things already but nothing has worked. I did the hardware test and it found no problems. I tried to safeboot it. I tried everything on here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 except the last suggestion (I'd rather not have to lose all my files unless absolutely nesseccary). I also tried the "hold Command + R keys" to try and get to utilities. Anything else out there that I could try? Not sure what the exact operating system is either.

I wouldn't assume that's the hard drive. The fact that the screen turned blue all of a sudden isn't necessarily an indication of a hard drive failure. Check out this post I made yesterday:

My personal opinion would be to try and boot from an external hard drive with the appropriate OS installed. With a 2011 model, I would assume that should be Snow Leopard or later. AHT doesn't catch everything, and I don't know if it even does drive scans for bad blocks. I do know for a fact that it pretty much limits itself to digital interfaces and can't go beyond analog driver stages. For example, if the driver stages of a FireWire port or ethernet port are blown, AHT will report them as being OK.
If you got hit by a transient, which could indicate an internal supply problem or a line problem if you were connected to the internet via a wired connection or you were running off the charger, there's no telling what it might have caused the drive to do (if it's the drive) and it could easily cause the screen to suddenly go to blue, but what other damage was done?
My point is that you need to confirm what the source of the problems are. If there's a logic board problem, your drive and data may be OK. If the drive is bad, some of it may still be recoverable. The problem may very well be drive related, but I wouldn't go out and start throwing money at new parts without first confirming what the cause of the problems is.

Problem using external screen and KVM switch since OSX 10.6.4 update

I've just returned from a trip during which I installed the OSX SL 10.6.4 update on my 13" MacBook Unibody Aluminium (late 2008).
It's been working fine but when I came home and plugged it into my KVM setup my mac could not find the external display. I tried rebooting and reconnecting without any success. The KVM is a Aten CS62DU USB and DVI model. It works great for my PC which is connected to the second input.
Furthermore I've connected the display using only the minidisplay->DVI adapter and a standard DVI cable. This works but not as rigid as it used to. It takes a few connects and disconnects before OSX is able to find the external screen. It seems that the timelimit for handshaking with extrenal screens have been decreased with the 10.6.4 display driver update. Perhaps this is the cause of my problem.
Have anyone experienced something simular since the 10.6.4 update? I really need to get my mac working with my KVM again.

I haven't experienced this specific problem with this specific hardware, but I have updated systems and had to replace KVMs on lower releases of OSX because they simply refused to work.
Any chance a firmware update is available from the manufacturer of the switch?

External HDD and closing laptop lid

I have a Seagate external hdd connected to my Macbook Pro via Firewire 800. I use it exclusively for Time Machine backups. Can I just close the lid of my laptop when it's done backing up or do I have to eject the drive each time?

You do not need to properly eject the external HD before closing the lid. When the machine wakes (on lid open) it will automatically remount the volume/drive.

Lr Mobile. Working with various Catalogs. Picture on portal are erased when Catalogs Backed to external HD and removed from MacBook.

So I work with various Catalogs on my MacBook. I believe most everyone has the same workflow. Creating Catalogs are a great way to improve the performance of Lr and a great tool for archiving.
The problem is the following: When backing up these Catalogs to an external HD and removing the Catalog from the MacBook. All of the pictures synched to Lr Mobile from these Catalogs are erased.
This is uncool. I think Lr Mobile at the very least should display a low quality JPG as Lr Desktop application does.
Here is a toke, I noticed on my iPhone that even though the pictures are gone, my used memory remains high. I tried clearing cache but it didn't move the needle.
So it seems as Lr Mobile knows there were some pictures synched, and recognizes that these pictures are no longer present, but fails to erase them from memory.

Thousand of small stripes on the welcome screen and then My Macbook pro 17"

Sunday ( 3 days ago ) after a call with skype my computer freezed.
I forced to reboot but the screen appear with strange short stripes in series of 5 all over the display. This when the Apple ws behind them in the center of the screen. And this is the only sign of life my computer does, After that is just a light blu screen with no arrow.
I installed the last adobe suite 1 mnth ago, and the last OS a couple of month ago, but I do not think these events are related. But just after that my Laptop frezeed a couple of times , I fixed that with a simple reboot.
I´m desperate cause I have all the time machine stuff on an external drive that just crashed the week before that
what should I do?!

Will your MacBook Pro start into [FireWire target disk mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8443.html]? If so you can get your vital files off of the MBP before you do anything that might lose the files.

Hello, i'm very happy to use my black macbook but since it heats a lot and i'd like it to be used bigger for videos I have purchased many adapters .
The first one is the macbook one but it has vga output as many (never understood why for mac) so I can't use my 22'' ADC screen but got vga dvi adapters so I may be able to get an apple screen?! right...

alright got a problem. tried to plug hdmi tv screen with adapters vga-dvi-hdmi and still nothing!!!
the display preference has nothing in it ! all my macs have video mirroring and many possibilities while here i got only resolution and calbration.
is intel different from other powermacs for that video thing? or is it lion that doesn't work?

Help! I dropped my external HD and now my Macbook Pro will not recognize the drive. I have tried to repair the disk and that does not work. Please offer help, suggestions, something!

I dropped my external HD on my hard tile floor and now the drive is not working properly. I have tried a repair in Disc Ultilies with First Aid with no such luck. It started to work then I got a message "Filesystem verify or repair failed" about 3-4 minutes into the first aid repair disk. When I plug in I get the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer message. Please I need help on restoring this drive!
Its a simple tech pro drive 1TB.

Unfortunately, a drive that has been mechanically damaged by a drop and can't be repaired using Disk Utility probably can't be fixed any other way either. The best you can hope for is to salvage as much data from the drive as possible using one of the data recovery utilities linked below, and then replace the drive.

My mouse/trackpad are completely out of control. The cursor/arrow is flying all over the screen and closing/opening windows. What is the solution to this? Downloading windows for Mac?

So far I'm dissapointed with Mac O/S .....so many areas lack common sense, require unnessary extra clicks and is not as customizable as Windows. It's like Apple thinks you are a child and not entitled to choose for yourself so that they can control your info for you.
The mouse/trackpad problem is a major issue that Apple should be proactive in offering a solution for. If anyone has a solution to this I'd be greateful to hear it.

Is this the first time you're using a Mac?
If so the learning curve is somewhat steep - but, if you put in the time and use this knowledge base whenever you run into issues you'll be up to speed soon enough.
With regards to the trackpad/mouse, you can adjust the sensitivity by:
1. Click the Apple Logo on the top left hard corner of your screen
2. Click System Preferences
3. Click Trackpad
Adjust the tracking speed to your specifications.
Also familiarise yourself with the gestures (activate the ones you can remember)
To go back to the menue by clicking Show All
4. Click Mouse
Adjust your mouse settings to your specification.
And why use mac?
It just works...

Grey screen and continuous beeping (macbook pro 2010)

Hi, I unplugged my computer from its display/keyboard/HDD setup to use it portably and then upon waking it from sleep - it froze and a continuous beeping began from within the computer.
When I started the computer I get the bong and white/grey screen (completely blank) and the beeping begins immediately. But thats as far as it goes.
I've looked online and there's a lot said about RAM related beeping but having removed the RAM i know this not to be the case as the beeping I hear is much quieter and far more regular than any of the loud RAM beeps.
Safe boot, pram reset and cmd s did nothing.
Any ideas whats wrong and how to solve?
