Extra routes causing server to stop talking

I have 16 Sun M3000 servers divided into 2 systems of 8.
System A is on 192.168.217.0 255.255.255.0 /etc/defaultrouter = 192.168.217.1
System B is on 192.168.218.0 255.255.255.0 /etc/defaultrouter = 192.168.218.1
Routing between the networks is done via cisco asa5520 Firewalls.
I am using 2 NICs on each server in a single group with one configured as a standby:
/etc/hostname.bge0 = server1 group serv1grp up
/etc/hostname.bge0 = group serv1grp standby up
The problem I have is that under normal conditions, when I type netstat -r I see:
217.0 network:
Routing Table: IPv4
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface
default 192.168.217.1 UG 1 101
192.168.217.0 192.168.217.11 U 1 120 bge0
224.0.0.0 192.168.217.11 U 1 0 bge0
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 3 65 lo0
218.0 network:
Routing Table: IPv4
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface
default 192.168.218.1 UG 1 173
192.168.218.0 192.168.218.12 U 1 80 bge0
224.0.0.0 192.168.218.12 U 1 0 bge0
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 3 65 lo0
Unfortunately every once in a while (8 hours or so) the servers on the 218.0 network quit talking to the servers on the 217.0 network. No ping, etc.. I can get from a server on the 217.0 network, through the firewalls and switches to a serrver on the 218.0 network. All of the 218.0 servers can talk to each other but not back over to 217.0 at this point. They can see 218.1
I have noticed "extra routes" in the route table on these servers. I do not have the exact extras, but something simliar to this:
218.0 network:
Routing Table: IPv4
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface
default 192.168.218.1 UG 1 173
192.168.218.0 192.168.218.12 U 1 80 bge0
192.168.218.0 192.168.218.34 U 1 80 bge0
192168.218.4 192.168.218.12 U 1 80 bge0
224.0.0.0 192.168.218.12 U 1 0 bge0
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 3 65 lo0
I understand that by having the /etc/defaultrouter file, routing/forwarding is disabled by default and I have not re-enabled any of this.
It seems as though the server is learning invalid routes. What I want to do is basically force it to always have only theoriginal 4 and not learn any new ones.
Anyone have any ideas?

Dont seem to find any difference between other servers...i chnaed the timeout settings to
"ServicesPipeTimeout" to 90000..This seems to have minimized the issue...but i am not sure for long it';s gonna work...
Initially the issue came to timeouts on 30000ms so i had to increase it to 60000
first Issue chnage :1: A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached
..Settings changed to 60000.it worked for a couple of month and then started to throw errors agaiin :
Second :A
timeout (60000 milliseconds) was reached
Now i have chnaged the value to 90000,though it doesnot show any recommended value for the reg keys for "ServicesPipeTimeout" and any fixes for
services getting timeout..
A timeout (60000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the CryptSvc service.
A timeout (60000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the Dnscache service.
A timeout (60000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the LanmanWorkstation service.
A timeout (60000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WinRM service.
A timeout (60000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the NlaSvc service.

  • Apple Mail has stopped talking to the server, or so it seem

    My Apple Mail has stopped talking to the server (Mobile Me), or so it seems. I was sending a couple of attachments the other day and too late realised that they were huge. They were PDF's I'd done, and I hadn't checked the size, so I ended up with 32Mb of attachments on a single email.
    This seemed to mess things up. I tried deleting the sending message from Mail as I couldn't seem to stop it sending, which I think I managed to do, but it kept reappearing in the drafts and deleted folders.
    I can access mail fine from Mobile Me and have managed to send what I needed from there, but now Mail doesn't seem to connect to the server (I just get the wheel), and whilst its trying my other mail accounts, which are on another ISP, disconnect.
    Mail is giving me an error message now when I try to quit: +"Some actions taken while the account "me.com" was offline could not be completed online"+. The additional info says that operation could not be completed: MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028
    Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this?
    Many thanks...

    R,
    Not looking the correct place. Home means to click on he Icon of House that represents your user account folder as found in the sidebar of every Finder window. Then in that User Library. You clicked on the hard drive icon, but then looked in the Library at its root level -- wrong Library.
    Also can be written as ~/Library.

  • Mail Server suddenly stopped working

    My mail server has stopped working, and I can't figure out why. This is a brand new MacMini with the latest Maverics Server (preinstalled) that I just setup last month. (We migrated from an Xserve running 10.6.) Up to this point, mail has worked flawlessly.
    This afternoon I used the Server app to create a new user. I then went about setting them up for ssh access and installing a public/private keypair (this is for a git repository). Around the same time, my mail server simply stopped working. As far as I know, no other configuration changes were made.
    When I go into the Mail service in the Server app the status perpetually says "Starting...". The 'postfix status' command says that postfix is not running. I've checked every log and error file, and I can only find three anomolies:
    The SMTP log file reports:
    Feb 11 01:31:06 mail.gloaming.com postfix/postmap[7152]: warning: /Library/Server/Mail/Data/scanner/amavis/local_domains.db: duplicate entry: "mail.gloaming.com"
    This warning has been logged before, several weeks earlier, so I assume it's not a serious problem.
    The other warning is:
    Feb 11 00:10:49 mail.gloaming.com postfix/postfix-script[23141]: warning: not owned by _postfix: /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta/./guid_device_maps.plist
    Other threads seem to indicate that this warning is benign.
    The only other problem that looks really suspicious (to me) is in the system.log:
    Feb 11 01:22:52 mail.gloaming.com ocspd[4947]: ERROR: unable to get the receiver data from the DB!
    I'm not sure what that means, but it doesn't sound good.
    Some threads point a finger at the virus and junk mail scanners. If I disable all mail filtering, the mail server status will finally change to "Serving mail at mail.gloaming.com". But it isn't. All attempts to get mail from the server are refused.
    (Oh, and I've restarted the server several times.)
    The postconf command tells me that the postfix system isn't accepting outside connections:
    inet_interfaces = loopback-only
    So it would appear that Server is setting this. Any attempt to change it back to "= all" fails, as the server software overwrites it with "= loopback-only" at its first possible opportunity. (Editing the main.cf file and reloading postfix doesn't fix it either.)
    Here's the really strange part. The server just started do this today. I recovered a backup of the main.cf file from yesterday and diffed it with the one that's not working:
    mail:postfix root# diff /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf /Users/admin/Desktop/main.cf
    675c675
    < inet_interfaces = loopback-only
    > inet_interfaces = all
    682c682
    < smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname reject_invalid_helo_hostname
    > smtpd_helo_restrictions = reject_invalid_helo_hostname reject_non_fqdn_helo_hostname
    692c692
    < mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com
    > mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com, $mydomain
    712d711
    < postscreen_dnsbl_sites = zen.spamhaus.org*2
    As you can see, the Server software has deliberatly started setting inet_interfaces to loopback-only and I can't figure out how to get it to set it back to "all".
    Some of the other threads have suggested "wipe and reinstall", but I've spent three weeks setting up this sever and shipping it to a co-location facility—starting over really isn't an option.
    I'd really just want to know why the Server software is suddently configuring the mail server so it won't receive any mail!

    The mystery continues.
    This morning, I decided to take a fresh look at what's going on by recovering a backup copy of my entire /Library/Server/Mail/Config directory from last month. Looking at the item capture list, it shows that none of the files in my Mail/Config directory have changed since late last month.
    Here are the disturbing changes.
    In Server/Mail/Config/dovecot/dovecot.conf, there is one different line.
    working:
         protocols = imap pop3 lmtp sieve
    now:
         protocols = lmtp sieve
    So clearly, the server doesn't think we should be running IMAP or POP. Which is probably the root of the problem.
    In Server/Mail/Config/postfix/mail.cf, there are a number of minor/cosmetic differences, but the problematic ones appear to be
    working:
         inet_interfaces = all
         mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com, $mydomain
    now:
         inet_interfaces = loopback-only
         mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$mydomain, localhost, mail.gloaming.com
    Again, this configuration would imply that there are no public mail services.
    Some other odd change occured in the Server/Mail/Config/postfix/main.cf file
    working:
         smtpd     pass  -       -       n       -       -       smtpd
         pickup    fifo  n       -       n       60      1       pickup
              -o content_filter=smtp-amavis:[127.0.0.1]:10024
    now:
         smtpd     pass  -       -       n       -       -       smtpd
              -o receive_override_options=no_address_mappings
         pickup    fifo  n       -       n       60      1       pickup
              -o content_filter=
    Reading through some other posts, I also found another inexplicable change reported by other users having similar problems. The /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.postfix.master.plist suddenly changed.
    working:
        <key>OnDemand</key>
        <false/>
        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>master</string>
            <string>-c</string>
            <string>/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix</string>
        </array>
    now:
        <key>OnDemand</key>
        <true/>
        <key>ProgramArguments</key>
        <array>
            <string>master</string>
            <string>-c</string>
            <string>/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix</string>
            <string>-e</string>
            <string>60</string>
        </array>
    The postfix service is now "OnDemand" with a new, and myserious, "-e 60" option added. (I can find no documentation for an -e option in the postfix control tool.)
    Ultimately, I "fixed" the problem by restoring the backup copy of my entire /Library/Server/Mail/Config folder, the /System/Library/LaunchDaemon/org.postfix.master.plist file, and immedately restarting the server. The mail servers started and everything appears to be normal.
    But this whole experience has made me very learly of the Server app. Why did these configuration changes occur? What settings or circumstances caused them to spontaniously change to an, essentually, unusable state? I'm now afriad of making any changes via Server.app for fear it will decide I shouldn't have a working mail server again.
    If anyone has any insights, I'd ver very interested in hearing them.

    Hi
    As per the information and details provided by you, Exchange server 2007 stop receiving emails, then please follow these steps: -
    If you do have a 60 GB partition on the C: drive, one of the first signs of trouble is when the free space on C: drops below 2GB. Exchange 2007 stops receiving external
    emails. This is caused by a condition known as Back Pressure.
    Please check the following: -
    Check the nslook up for correct MX record.
    Run the exbpa and llok for any recent changes.
    Check for the device in perimeter network which accepts connections on port 25 FW or any other anti spam device).
    Try to run a telnet session from the firwall and then out side and drop email on the server.
    I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

    Hit CTRL+C to cancel, ENTER to continue...HANG!
    Now I am lost!!
    As Iggy points out from the strace, the OS is returning an error back to the Oracle foreground process, is this not handled?
    Or is it normal for oracle to ignore this error, and ask for more memory?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • IChat server suddenly stopped, now will not restart

    I have a Snow Leopard Server hosting multiple email accounts and websites, file sharing, runing OD, running iCal server, and up until a few days ago running iChat server.  All other functions continue to work normally, but iChat Server simply stopped one day and now won't restart.  Around the same time my external Time Machine hard drive failed (ironic) and I restarted the server in an attempt investigate that failed drive.  About the time of that restart, iChat server stopped working.  Here is the most recent iChat Service Log from attempting to start iChat Server:

    Thanks, Tim!  I noticed that I did not have access permission to the directory /jabberd.  As a result, I set the system admin user's permissions to read & write for that and all sub files in the directory.  I then tried to restart iChat Server and here's the new error log:

  • Server has stopped responding

    Hi there, when trying to connect to the internet (Safari) I get an error message  that the connection failed because the server has stopped responding. I can connect to the itunes store and the app store. I have re-started the computer, router, app, ipad and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Blackberry stops talking to BES after generating desktop software keys ?

    hi
    We have an issue with a blackberry 8310 (4.2.2.181)  that I’ve replicated on another where when its plugged into a pc to use the desktop software (4.2.2.14) and its immediately asked to generate keys, the user does this and it stops talking to our BES (4.1.6) server and needs reactivated. From what I’ve read generating that key or plugging into a pc shouldn’t affect its ability to talk to the BES. Is this an issue with versions or a policy setting or something else ? Any help much appreciated.
    Elaine

    I have mine setup the same at work. I installed with the Redirector/Enterprise Server option and I don't get prompted to regenerate keys. The BlackBerry should automatically receive updated keys every 30 days if I remember correctly, so you shouldn't get prompted when using the software. That's why I was a little confused. But if the software was installed on a personal computer then you'd want to have the user install using the Internet Service option.

  • HP Mediasmart Server EX490 stopped booting; health light blinks blue forever

    My server recently stopped responding on the network.  I power-cycled it to reboot, but it never came back up.  The network conection light goes solid blue (and the server shows up in the router's list of clients), but the health indicator continues to blink blue indefinitely (as long as 36 hours at one point) and I can't view any files or remote desktop in.
    This has continued through a variety of reboots.  I attempted to use System Recovery to restore the system, but was never able to get the server to enter recovery mode (health indicator turning violet).  I tried using recovery anyway just in case (both with a direct ethernet connection and over the network), but it always failed on step 3.
    I wondered if the boot disk had died, but I removed it and hooked it up to another computer and was able to successfully view files, so it's at least not totally dead.
    I'd appreciate any further suggestions on things I could try to get it back up and running.

    I have the same problem ..... Will not boot up, two 1t drives, I removed the drives tested to see if data was on.. yes... has dat.   System will not boot to get it. I can not reinstall software either. HELP !

  • Servlet spawning multiple threads causes server to freeze PC

    I'm attempting to write a servlet which, upon receipt of a particular GET request, spawns a thread to do various work which can then be queried by a different GET request. A third type of GET request stops a specified thread.
    This is working fine, except that I can only seem to have spawned one thread at a time. When I spawn another thread, my entire PC stops responding (even Windows Task Manager becomes so sluggish that I cannot kill the server) , and I have to do a hard reset of my PC. I'm using Sun Java System Application Server. The server logs do not contain any errors. I've tried the NetBeans debugger a bit, and it seems to happen when I call the start() method of the Thread.
    This is my first experience with servlets, as well as my first experience with Sun Java System Application Server. I'm also not a Java expert by any means. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I haven't a clue what.
    I can post my code if necessary, but does anyone have any idea what could be causing the server to stop responding just because a servlet spawns two threads? Should I post my code?
    Sorry if this is a n00b question. Thanks in advance.

    I think you may need to spawn it into HTML frame. Each frame will perform
              and download independently.
              Is it what you need ?

    Unlikely.  Based on the complete lack of detail of the issue provided it is entirely possible the same issue would occur.
    Unless and until the user provides some actual details of the problem, there is nothing the indicate that the issue is with the iPhone.

    I would presume so, but it might be worth your while to experiment and play around with different combinations to see if you can block FaceTime while keeping Game Center open.  Good luck!

    You can not access the backup directly.
    Did you restore your replacement from this backup?
    If so then you already have everything in the backup on your device.
    If not, you can wipe the device and restore from this backup:
    Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings
    What is it you are worried about losing that isn't already on your current device?
