Extra vertical space in FF2

http://www.emergencypettemecula.com/temp.html
I am using an image at the bottom of this page to simulate a
drop shadow. In
IE6 this displays perfectly. In FF2 there is a small vertical
space between
the #footer div and the image. I can't see where the space is
coming from. I
have set margin:0 for img in my CSS.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Walt

If you CAN write clean an efficient code theres no difference
in how a
page performs whatever the doctype as long as it complies. If
youre not
well versed in writing clean and efficient code its probably
not a good
idea to use a strict doctype.
In the end you either know how to write good html/xhtml OR
you don't.

Not really. I can write validate and compliant code that
works x browser
without using a 'strict' doc type.

Transitional is far more applicable for beginners in my
opinion. I guess
you're the kind of person that would set out for the North
Pole before
being fully equipped with the knowledge you need.

Enough said. What appears in the browser is what really
counts.

  • Imbedded graphics taking too much vertical space in HTML preview

    Does anyone know why imbedded pictures should require more vertical space than expected on the HTML preview?
    I imported a .jpg into my report layout, and immediately below it I added a line of text. The HTML preview shows me a LOT of unexpected blank space between the picture and the text.
    I then inserted the .jpg into a table in which the "Fit to Content" option is checked. On the RTF layout, it looks great - the margins of the cell snuggle up pretty close to the picture. But when previewed, that extra blank space comes back and appears below the picture - the table row is a lot taller than it needs to be.
    I've experimented with different image heights, and the amount of extra vertical space seems to always be about 40% of the height of the picture. So if the picture is 100 pixels tall, the table row is about 140 pixels, with 40 pixels of height in unwanted blank space. I can even set the row height to a value less than the height of the image. On the RTF, it looks right (chops a portion of the image). On the Preview... there's the blank space again.
    Not only that, I can't get the picture to locate anywhere other than at the top of the table cell. No matter how I format the cell, the graphic insists on staying at the top.
    BTW, the PDF preview behaves correctly. No extra blank space.

    What's the 'tiny_spacer_rule' for which is applied to the paragraph tag between the end of your
    'header' section and the start of the table?

    You cannot use iCloud Storage to suppliment your iPad. They are mainly used to backup iPad.

  • Anchored Objects with text wrap, need vertical space

    Hi.  I'm a fairly new InDesign user and have just this past week learned about anchored objects, threading text frames, numbered lists, and some other fun options. So far InDesign has done most everything I need fairly elegantly. However, I have not been able solve one issue.
    In my book I have numerous pages that have this issue; I'll just describe one case. On this page there are 4 graphics running down the right side of the page. These are not anchored graphics. They do have text wrap defined on the left side and bottom. There is text that wraps lovely on the left.
    Each of these four graphics has a specific paragraph it needs to top align with. However, the text it aligns with may not take up as much vertical space as the graphic does. When I anchor each graphic with the paragraph it needs to align with, the four graphics overlap each other.
    At the moment, to make it look right, I have placed each graphic individually and added a blank paragraph above each paragraph of text that should align with a graphic and use the Space Above of each blank paragraph to have it align with the graphic.
    I'm not even sure what to search to try and solve this. I looked briefly into compound paths, but that didn't look like it would help.
    I hope this is clear and thank you for any assistance at all.
    Andrea

    No problem. Click your cursor somewhere in the paragraph that ought to be aligned with the next image down, then run this Javascript.
    It's not entirely accurate, as it uses the font size to do a minimal adjustment where it actually should use the font's cap height -- but you cannot get to that through scripting. This final adjustment is necessary because ID does know the baseline, and your first line ought to dip just below this to have the top of the first line aligned to the top of the image.
    //DESCRIPTION:Align paragraph with image.
    // Jongware, 15-Jul-2010

              app.activeDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = MeasurementUnits.POINTS;
              top = nearest.geometricBounds[0];
              ypos = app.selection[0].paragraphs[0].lines[0].baseline;
              if (ypos < top)
                   app.selection[0].paragraphs[0].spaceBefore = top-app.selection[0].pointSize-app.selection[0].parentStory.paragraphs.previousItem(app.selection[0].paragraphs[0]).lines[-1].baseline;
              app.activeDocument.viewPreferences.verticalMeasurementUnits = prevm;
    This image shows three paragraphs aligned with their respective images (it won't work on the first paragraph, but that ought not to be necessary anyhoo).

  • Can you WIRELESSLY connect a macbook pro to a monitor to have extra work space on a separate screen from your macbook? (not mirror, extra monitor/workspace)

    Can you WIRELESSLY connect a macbook pro to a monitor to have extra work space on a separate screen from your macbook? (not mirror, extra monitor/workspace)
    It needs to be wireless.
    I am not asking about mirroring, but as a second screen.
    Apple tv communties said the Apple tv cannot do this, but maybe another type device can?

    My thunderbolt port stopped working on my late 2011 MacBook Pro rendering my external monitor useless--or so I thought.
    Mac Genius suggested using the Apple TV via AirPlay Display as a $100 solution. Took me all of 6 minutes to figure this out as there are no directions in the Apple TV box supporting this. But, it does work and I am now back in business.
    PS. Don't set up with bluetooth--seems logical but you want to use AirPlay Display under Settings > Displays.
    Also, I originally thought my external monitor stopped working because I upgraded the OS. This time, it was definitely a hardware issue and not software. It also fixed a known sound issue my monitor had with Macs. First time in my 15 years I've ever had a ViewSonic have issues with an Apple product, too. Thanfully, it is now fixed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Optional Vertical Space Character

    Paragraphs can have a "space before" and "space after" attribute, as you probably know. The nice thing about this is that if the paragraph is at the top of the page, the space before disappears.
    I would like to have a vertical space character that does the same. You insert it into a line by itself (Type>Special Characters>Vertical Spacer). It makes a vertical gap based on the leading you give it.
    BUT! if it appears as the top line of a text frame, it will disappear.
    Why is this good? Because it saves having to create a lot of paragraph styles to deal with each situation. For instance, currnetly, I may need the following styles:
    Block Quote Standalone [space before and space after]
    Block Quote beginning [space before no space after]
    Block Quote Middle [no space before no space after]
    Block Quote End [no space before space after]
    Block Quote Standalone Indented
    Block Quote beginning Indented
    Block Quote Middle Indented
    Block Quote End Indented
    That's 8 styles all for the different combinations of block quotes. If I had a "vertical space" character, I would need only two styles:
    Block Quote; and
    Block Quote Indented.
    Much easier to manage! The variations could be simply managed by inserting a vertical spacer as needed. Really useful idea, and similar to the way dedicated typesetting systems used to work several decades ago.
    Thanks,
    Ariel

    Perhaps. Not sure I understand. Could you elaborate?
    But let me explain. Here's an example. A regular long block quote will need 3 styles, depending on whether there needs to be a line space before or after the paragraph:
         BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning
    BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning
    BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning
    BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning BlockQuoteBeginning
         BlockQuoteMiddle BlockQuoteMiddle BlockQuoteMiddle BlockQuoteMiddle
    BlockQuoteMiddle BlockQuoteMiddle BlockQuoteMiddleBlockQuoteMiddle
    BlockQuoteMiddleBlockQuoteMiddleBlockQuoteMiddleBlockQuoteMiddle
        BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd
    BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd
    BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd BlockQuoteEnd
    And then you need a separate style for a standalone block quote, that needs a line space both above and below. So that's 4 common styles.
    Then, occassionally, each of these for will sometimes not need indentation. So that's another four styles.
    Also, if the book requires block quotes in footnotes (a bad idea, IMHO, but the choice is not up to me), that's another 8 styles for the same reason.
    The forced line break that you mention, if I've understood correctly, wouldn't work with justified paragraphs, since it will force the line before the forced break to be fully justified?

  • Problem with interspersed response -- opening vertical space fail

    mail.app version 5.3 (1283) on MacOS 10.7.5
    I can top- or bottom- post and do so when appropriate, generally in very simple email conversations.
    BUT, for more complex threads, I commonly want to open some space between each paragraph of each incoming message to insert my response.  (Incoming paragraphs are typicallly separated by a blank line or two.)  Mail.app provides horizontal bar quoting indicators at the left to mark the progress of the thread over many exchanges, though this mechanism often seems not to be very well supported by the email clients of my correspondents. (I often end up increasing the quoting manually to restore a semblance of the correct quoting of a thread.  Oh, well...)
    I've been using mail.app only since I installed 10.7, shortly after it was released.  With varying success, especially when using formatted as opposed to plain text. Exchanges with some people work more or less flawlessly.   The most common difficulty: I have trouble opening up vertical space below an incoming, quoted paragraph in which to type my response to that para. Up until today, I've always been able to find a way, by exeriment of where I put the cursor, using shift-enter instead of enter, etc, etc.
    But for a message I just received, I cannot.  Every attempt I make to open some vertical space results in ... trouble.  If I put the cursor on a blank line between incoming paragraphs and command "decrease quote level" I get 8 inches [!] or so of quoted vertical space, followed by 8 more inches or so of unquoted vertical space, followed by the following paragraph and the rest of the thread, apparently intact.  That's not right!
    Fortunately, I can undo and resume ... to do what?  I get a similar result if I try placing the cursor that line and hit "enter".  Or "Enter".  Or "shift-enter".
    Yeah, it looks like I've opened 10 inches in which to insert my response to the first paragraph, but first I need to get rid of most of the inserted quoted vertical space -- an impossible task, as far as I can see.  If I put the cursor on the first line of unquoted space and backspace, the 10 quoted inches stay the same and characters delete from the end of the previous quoted parag.
    What's going on?   Are there any methods of recovering some semblance of normal operation so I can answer this incoming message? (OK, I've given up and responded by top-posting.)   I note that I can view the source of the incoming message, but I see no way to view the source of the response, to see what exactly is going on. What is actually being inserted in the formatted text source that creates the mess I observe?
    In this case, viewing the incoming source seems to reveal only one apparent client name: Zimbra.   Is that a client?  Could Zimbra and mail.app have ... issues with each other?
    Are there any mail.app add-ins that might help?   Work-arounds?   (Yeah, probably converting to plain text would solve the problem, but that has other issues.)   Any applicable help or articles?
    Am I missing anything incredibly obvious?

  • Please reply:how to avoid extra trailing spaces while using cursor sharing

    i am using cursor sharing with FORCE or SIMILAR.
    what is the solution to avoid extra trailing spaces without any java code change.
    do we have any option in oracle to avoid extra trailing spaces during the query processing ?
    I am using Oracle 10g
    CURSOR SHARING is a feature in which multiple sql statements
    which are same will have a shared cursor (in the library cache) for an oracle session,
    i.e, the first three steps of the sql processing (hard parse, soft parse, optimization)
    will be done only the first time that kind of statement is executed.
    There are two ways in which similar SQL statements with different condition values can be made to "SHARE" cursor during execution:
    1. Writing SQLs with Bind Variables: SQLs having no hard coded literals in them
    For e.g., the query below
    SELECT node.emp_name AS configid
    FROM emp node
    WHERE emp_no = :1
    AND dept_no =
    DECODE (SUBSTR (:2, 1, 3),
    :3, :4,
    (SELECT MAX (dept_no)
    FROM emp
    WHERE emp_no = :5 AND dept_no <= :6)
    AND node.dept_type = :7
    ORDER BY node.emp_name
    Here all the variables are dynamically bound during the execution. The ":X" represents BIND Variable and the actual values are bound to the SQL only at the 4th step of the execution of the SQL.
    In applications: The queries written with "?" as bind variables will be converted into ":X" and are sqls with Bind Variables.
    2. The CURSOR_SHARING parameter: Only Useful for SQL statements containing literals:
    For eg., the query below:
    SELECT node.emp_name AS configid
    FROM emp node
    WHERE emp_no = 'H200'
    AND dept_no =
    DECODE (SUBSTR (:1, 1, 3),
    'PLN', :2,
    (SELECT MAX (dept_no)
    FROM emp
    WHERE emp_no = :3 AND dept_no <= :4)
    AND node.dept_type = :5
    ORDER BY node.emp_name
    In the query above, there are two hard coded literals H200 , PLN. In this case when the same SQL executed with different values like (H2003 , PLN), oracle will create a new cursor for this statement and all the first three steps ( hard & soft parse and optimization plan) needs to be done again.
    This can be avoided by changing the CURSOR_SHARING parameter which can be set to any of three values:
    1. EXACT: Causes the mechanism not be used, i.e. no cursor sharing for statements with different literals. This is the default value.
    2. FORCE: Causes unconditional sharing of SQL statements that only differ in literals.
    3. SIMILAR: Causes cursor sharing to take place when this is known not to have any impact on optimization.
    So, FORCE and SIMILAR values of the parameter will be helping in cursor sharing and improve the performance of the SQLs having literals.
    But here the problem arises if we use the FORCE and SIMILAR other than EXACT.
    alter session set cursor_sharing ='EXACT'
    select 1 from dual;
    '1'
    1
    alter session set curson_sharing='FORCE'
    select 2 from dual;
    '2'
    2
    alter session set curson_sharing='SIMILAR'
    select 3 from dual;
    '3'
    3
    So, this will give extra trailing spaces in when we retrieve from java method and any
    further java processing based on the hardcoded literal values will fail. this needs lot of
    effort in remodifying the existing millions of lines of code.
    My question is i have to use cursor sharing with FORCE or SIMILAR and can't we do the trimming
    from the oracle query processing level ?
    please help me on this ?

  • "Create alternate versions without using extra disk space" Really?

    "Create alternate versions without using extra disk space" says Apple. But is that really true? Because, from what I understand, for Aperture's OS Integration (with the Media Browser) to work, Aperture has to render Previews of all your photos first. So, any alternate versions that you create, do exist on your Hard Drive in the form of an actual file (e.g. a JPEG).

    As Ian notes, it's smaller than a RAW - also smaller than an alternate PSD you might make, or duplicating a background layer in a PSD.
    Also though, you don't have to have previews for everything - I find what I do is leave automatic preview generation turned off and then just generate previews for images that I like the end result of. This lets you explore alternate versions with essentially no addition space used.

  • !!!Help!!! Cells have extra bottom space

    My site has a header. This header is a table formed by 1 row
    and 2 cells. One of the cells has only one image, but the other has
    a nested table with two other cells, having, each one, one image.
    Anyway, this is what my header is looking like:
    See
    this image.
    I've set the background color of the nested table's upper
    cell to yellow, and the bottom cell's background color to blue (as
    you can see in the image).
    NOTE: These colors are only for understanding better the
    problem.
    As you can see, the images have a 3 pixel extra (bottom)
    space. I've tried everything to eliminate it (messing with the
    height attributes), but still haven't figured what could it be...
    Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    EDIT: This only happens with Firefox. With Dreamweaver and
    IExplorer, the extra (bottom) space, doesn't appear.
    This is the table code (it isn't important, since the error
    probably doesn't come from here) and the code of the CSS tags that
    apply (probably the source of the problem is here)...:

  • Extra white space in Firefox, not IE

    Hello. I'm new to Dreamweaver and am having an issue I can't
    figure out. I was hoping someone might have insight into where my
    problem is.
    In the following site,
    http://www.firststepshr.biz,
    it previews as designed in Internet Explorer. However, in Firefox,
    extra white space (or blue background on the home page) is
    appearing above and below the Flash header. I can't, for the life
    of me, figure out why there's this difference.
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, in advance, for the advice.
    Jeremy

    I don't see extra white space in FF2x.
    If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines may not parse Flash links - your site will
    not be
    spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    You will have
    to remake those buttons.
    It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons - and for
    these reasons,
    Adobe has removed Flash buttons and Flash text from the next
    version of
    Dreamweaver.

  • New line break and extra blank space characters disappear after submit form?

    Hello,
    I have a PDF form with a Submit button that is dynamically created in my code to send the form data to the server in HTML format.
    After the form data is received on the server side, all strings with new line break and extra blank spaces are gone.
    For example, if I enter string in a text field as shown below on the form:
    Hello   ,
    this is
        just a
    test
    After the form data is sent to the server, this string would become:
    Hello , this is just a test
    New line breaks are gone. Also, if there is more than 1 blank space character between 2 characters, the extra blank space characters would be removed as well.
    It does not only happen to multi-line text field, even with single-line text field. If I have a string like this in a single-line text field:
    Hello         this is just              a         test
    After the form data is sent to the server, it would become:
    Hello this is just a test
    The form is created in OpenOffice then converted to PDF. The Submit button is created in my program using iText.  I have no idea it is iText that trims my string or PDF itself does it.
    Can anyone give me any possible explanation? Thanks.

    That is not what I get. Since it's URL-encoded, spaces are represented by the "+" character and carriage returns are represented by the "%0d%0a" (cr/lf) sequence.
    Are you looking at the actual data that getting sent to the server or the output from the server after it processes it?

  • Extra blank space problem in af:selectOneChoice

    Hi All,
    I m using <af:selectOneChoice> to display few items in combo box. Now the problem is when the page gets load 1st time, its show an extra blank space in item list, but after selecting any item from the list page gets refreshed and reload again, now it does not have any extra blank space in the list.
    How do I remove this blank space from the combo box ???

    Hi Usha,
    1. Remove the Condition from you Context tab.
    2. In the Driver Program check for the condition and fill the value in the internal table which is passed to
        the adobe form.
    3. Make the subform (under which the field is added in the hierarchy view) as flowed.
    4. In the script editor, Select the 'javascript' and write the script to hide the form field specifying the condition here.
    for e.g
    if (xfa.form.FORM.SUB_FORM.matnr == "123") {
        xfa.form.FORM.SUB_FORM.Region = "hidden";
    NOTE: Javascript is Case sensitive and stops working immediately after the line of code where an error occurs.
    Hope this proves to be useful.
    Thanks,
    Swar.

  • How to extract ALL text on a line, including extra white space, from PDF?

    I have written my first scripts to parse thru PDF files and successfully locate the beginning and ending of text portions that I wish to copy/extract.  For example, one of the scripts reads thru PDF files and locates patterns that allow me to copy/extract a lengthy Title that spans several lines on the page.  My remaining problem is that sometimes the text I wish to copy/extract has tabs or lots of white space between the words, and I need to retain ALL the "white space" between words.  Basically, I am successful at using getPageNthWord(j, i, false) along with "Quad coordinate sets" to get a word-at-a-time for all the words on the multiple lines but it seems to be skipping over the tabs and extra white spacing beetween the words.   Another way to say this is that I need to extract/copy a full line at a time, including all white space, instead of being limited to just a word at a time.
    Can anyone help me with an algorithm to extract/copy text, not just the words but also including tabs and other extra white space characters? Is there some type of Regular Expression I should be using, or maybe some additional parameter used for getPageNthWord that would retain all the extra white space?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ted L

    Did you try setting the bStrip parameter of getPageNthWord to false? It will
    preserve some of the whitespace, but not all of it.
    As far as I know, that's the only way to do it via a script.
