Extracting from maintenance view

Hello Experts,
There is a maintenance view in R/3 which I have to extract. When I try to enter this view in the RSA2 for the creation of generic datasource I get an error "Only transparent tables and database views can be extracted"
Do i have to create a Database view based on the same definetion?
Is there any direct way to converting this maintenance view to database view?
Is there any other alternative to create datasource for a maintenance view?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi BWer,
1st option: make a copy of the view to a z-view and change the view type to database view.
2nd option: create a fm using the view as extract structure and select data from it in the fm.

That is the most important part. Thank you. But you seem to be unaware of the "search" functionality.
If you can imagine that you are not the first person to ask a certain question, then you can be sure that someone else already has and you can find the answers on your own. If you still have doubts, then ask a specific question providing the details.
Based on your other questions, you are on release 4.0B. Is that still correct?

Getting Data from Maintenance view V001N into ABAP program

Hello Experts,
I have to fetch data from the maintenance view V001N in my ABAP program. I have used select statement in my program but I am getting a syntax error 'V001N is not defined in the ABAP Dictionary as a table, projection view or database view. '. V001N is a Maintenance view.
Can anybody help me out how to get the data from that maintenance view into the internal table of my ABAP program.

Read data from maintenance view

hi all,
could anyone please tell me if there is any special way to read data from a maintenance view (if at all it is possible).
i wrote a simple select on it but it gave me a syntax error that the view is not defined in the dictionary. (i am able to see the view definition by double clicking and it is active too).
the following is my select.
select single lgnum from v_t320 into (w_lgnum) where werks eq p_i_werks and lgort eq p_i_lgort.

but the documentation on maintenance views says that we can have read access to them. Does that mean the data can only be seen via the DDIC and not from a select written in a program??

Maintenance Status
The maintenance status of a view controls whether data records can also be changed or inserted in the tables contained in the view.
The maintenance status can be defined as follows:
Read only: Data can only be read through the view.
Read, change, delete, insert: Data of the tables contained in the view can be changed, deleted, and inserted through the view.
Only read access is permitted for database views that are defined through several tables. If a database view contains only one single table, data can be inserted in this table through the view (see Inserts Through Database Views).
The following status definitions are also possible for maintenance views:
Read and change: Existing view entries can be changed. However, records cannot be deleted or inserted.
Read and change (time-dependent views): Only entries whose non-time-dependent part of the key is the same as that of existing entries may be inserted.

Selection from maintenance view

Hi,
I have created and activated a maintenance view from tables EKPO and EKKO. I needed an outer join so I had to use maintenance view instead of datbase view. When I see the data in the view using SE11 it works fine. However, when I try to select some fields from it using code it gives me an error message.
Eg.
REPORT Z_TEST_REP.
TABLES: Z_MAINTVIEW.
SELECT * FROM Z_MAINTVIEW.
WRITE: / Z_MAINTVIEW-MYFIELD1.
ENDSELECT.
When activating, this gives me the error message: "Z_MAINTVIEW" is not defined in the ABAP Dictionary as a table, projection view or database view.
Does this mean that it is not possible to select single fields from a maintenance view using the select statement? Is there any way I can do this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Khan,
it is in the nature of EKKO (header) and EKPO (items) that you have 1 to n records (ittems) in EKPO with the same EBELN (purchase order document number). They all have different EBELP (item number values).
I just tried: You can create a database view with tables EKKO and EKPO with join condition EKKO-EBELN = EKPO-EBELN. In the view you also need EKKO-MANDT = EKPO-MANDT to make sure you stay in your client.
In the view fields, put all fields you want and/or need.
You can select from this view; works great.
Alternative: Use BAPI_PO_GETDETAIL to get all the header and item data you need. This is 100 % compliant with standard and (as I am convinced) with any programming guidelines.
- OK as I don't know the business scenario, it might be lesss than most appropriate...

ChNo, a view is just a stored query. Goldengate Extract will capture the changes happening to data on tables.

Need to update table from Maintenance view (Very Urgent !!!)

I got a requirement where in I need to create a new Zprog so that it shld give a call to view v_abc and thru this view I need to update the table abc if any duplicate entries are entered then I shld popup a message.
Cld u plz help me out how to go further with this requirement and any suggestions...
if we create a table maintenance generator for the table abc then it will check for the duplicate entries are not ? if it checks for the duplicate entries then my job is done esaily but how to assign the zt-code to the table maintenance ?

   table generator will check duplicate entries as any
   other table .
    table maintanance Generator is used to manually
    input values using transaction sm30
    follow below steps
   1) go to se11 check table maintanance check box under
      attributes tab
   2) utilities-table maintanance Generator->
      create function group and assign it under
      function group input box.
      also assign authorization group default &NC& .
   3)
    select standard recording routine radio in table
    table mainitainence generator to move table
    contents to quality and production by assigning
    it to request.
   4) select maintaience type as single step.
   5) maintainence screen as system generated numbers
      this dialog box appears when you click on create
     button
    6) save and activate table
   using sm30 you can create entries manually.

Error-handling in form routines to be called from maintenance view

hello,
i have created a table maint. dialog. Under 'enviroment->modification->events' you can create form-routines for your own coding.
I have the maint.event '01 - Before saving the data in the database'. Here i do some checks if entered values in some fields are okay or not etc.....
When the users enters 'wrong' data i do a "message e000 with 'text' " So i got a error-message and the user is not able to save the data before changing it.
BUT: i get the right error-message in the status-line, but i got an EMPTY screen, all the fields disapear. I have to go back with enter or the red cancel button. But then i 'fall back' to the selection screen of the maint. view. Thats not very user-friendly.
Any ideas ?

You can't use OPEN SQl statements to fetch data from maintenance view
You have to use only Database views
see the different types of views and the difference
The followings are different types of views:
- Database View (SE11)
Database views are implement an inner join, that is, only records of the primary table (selected via the join operation) for which the corresponding records of the secondary tables also exist are fetched. Inconsistencies between primary and secondary table could, therefore, lead to a reduced selection set.
In database views, the join conditions can be formulated using equality relationships between any base fields. In the other types of view, they must be taken from existing foreign keys. That is, tables can only be collected in a maintenance or help view if they are linked to one another via foreign keys.
- Help View ( SE54)
Help views are used to output additional information when the online help system is called.
When the F4 button is pressed for a screen field, a check is first made on whether a matchcode is defined for this field. If this is not the case, the help view is displayed in which the check table of the field is the primary table. Thus, for each table no more than one help view can be created, that is, a table can only be primary table in at most one help view.
- Projection View
Projection views are used to suppress or mask certain fields in a table (projection), thus minimizing the number of interfaces. This means that only the data that is actually required is exchanged when the database is accessed.
A projection view can draw upon only one table. Selection conditions cannot be specified for projection views.
- Maintenance View ( SE54 )
Maintenance views enable a business-oriented approach to looking at data, while at the same time, making it possible to maintain the data involved. Data from several tables can be summarized in a maintenance view and maintained collectively via this view. That is, the data is entered via the view and then distributed to the underlying tables by the system.

How to see deleted records in delta extraction from view

Hi folks,
i am currently reflecting about delta extraction from a view:
The view contains a date field (change date) which is used to identify new or changed records.
So the delta extraction of new and changed records works without problems.
But what is happening with records that are deleted in the source system?
My current understanding is that deleted records will not be shown in the view. Therefore the deletion is not visible in the extraction.
- Is there a workaround for this problem?
- How is deletion of records normaly handled in generic extractors?
- Is it impossible to extract a deletion when using views?

Hello Florian,
Generally records will not be deleted (until if you physically delete it from table) but will have a status deleted.
So it doesn't matter whether you use view or tables the deleted records will be extracted through the view to update the BW data targets.

It is not possible to retrieve the data from Maintenance view. Maintenance View is different and Database View is different.
Maintenance view : Maintenance view permits you to maintain the data of an application object together.The data is automatically distributed in the underlying database tables.
A standardized table maintenance transaction is provided (SM30), permitting you to maintain the data from the base tables of a maintenance view together.
In other words, Maintenance views enable a business-oriented approach to looking at data, while at the same time, making it possible to maintain the data involved. Data from several tables can be summarized in a maintenance view and maintained collectively via this view. That is, the data is entered via the view and then distributed to the underlying tables by the system.
Database View: Data about an application object is often distributed on several database tables. A database view provides an application-specific view on such distributed data.A database view is automatically created in the underlying database when it is activated.Database views implement an inner join.If the database view only contains a single table, the maintenance status can be used to determine if data records can also be inserted with the view. If the database view contains more than one table, you can only read the data.
Database views should be created if want to select logically connected data from different tables simultaneously. Selection with a database view is generally faster than access to individual tables. When selecting with views, you should also ensure that there are suitable indexes on the tables contained in the view.

You cannot select data from Maintenance Views using Open SQL statements.
Alternatively you can use the FM: VIEW_GET_DATA to read the data from the view.
Else you can proceed as mentioned by Dzed

Maintenance view: how to read EXTRACT and TOTAL table

Hi, All,
I created a maintenance view, as stated in the documentation, there are 2 internal tables EXTRACT and TOTAL available in running environment. Now I want to read a record from the internal table by using "READ TABLE...."
In my example: the table strucutre has A, B, C 3 fields.
So I tried to use "READ TABLE EXTRACT with key A=' xyz' assigning <fs>", in this case, the syntax check shows error saying that the specified type has no structure and no component can be called.
So how can I search a row in the table EXTRACT and TOTAL by giving a field value? Is there any other way to get data from the table?

I know this is an old post, but, may be this is still helpful for you or for others with the same problem.
Just add the option "CASTING" at the end of your READ statement:
"READ TABLE EXTRACT with key A=' xyz' assigning must be full typed or at least, be of the same type of the Z table from which is generated the itab EXTRACT.
