FaceTime between ipad2 and macbook pro

I have an iPad2 and a MacBook Pro.
I am trying to get Facetime between the two, and when I dial from the iPad2 to the MacBook or vice versa I get a busy signal.
How can I get the iPad2 and MacBook to do facetime?
Do I need to have different emailaddress or apple ID for the iPad2 and a different one for the MacBook?
Thank you,

Running into the same problem Pashy. I can facetime my husband from my macbook pro. But when I try to contact him using my ipad 2 nothing happens. I try contacting him thru the AIM address listed in my contacts and nothing happens when I click the link however it  will work with the mobile numbers.

Facetime between iPad2 and MacBook Air worked fine here in the USA.  The iPad2 is now in Rome, Italy and we can't connect internationally.  We both can hear the caller ringing in and can see who is trying to call, but after accepting the call we cannot connect.  No voice, no video. iPad is successfully sending and receiving eMails, but no Factime connection   What's up?

I am curious if possibly the hotel has some sort of VOIP block on.  Have you tried Skype?  Did you talk to the hotel staff?  My husband is traveling to Milan in a couple of days and I wonder if he will run into the same issue.  He has had no problems from Istanbul but he is staying in a corporate apartment there.  If you find an answer please post back.  Thanks

On your Mac, launch FaceTime and then go to the menubar for FaceTime->Preferences.
Within Preferences for FaceTime, look for the entries under "You can be reached for calls at:" and click on "Add Another Email..."
    Add another email address.
The iPad can now be used to "call" the Mac by trying to start a FaceTime connection to the alternate email address you just entered. The Mac can be used to call the iPad by trying to start a FaceTime connection to the primary email address associated with the iPad.

  • Pages and Numbers not sync between ipad and macbook pro. icloud problem?

My Pages and Numbers are stopped synchronizing via icloud between ipad and macbook pro. Everytime I edit something to Pages or Numbers on my ipad, my ipad failed to upload the edited version to icloud. what happened?

I have a slightly different problem with Numbers and Pages failing to sync between a Macbook and iPad via iCloud. I have checked all the obvious settings. I think the problem may be that the Macbook username is my email address, whereas the iPad username is my wife's email address. However, both addresses are named alibis for exactly the same email address from our internet provider – eg we get the same emails, despite appearing to have different addresses. So I don't understand why the iPad cannot pick up Numbers or Pages files that have been opened and saved in iCloud on my Macbook. Other apps, such as iCal, sync perfectly, but i guess they don't use iCloud. Any help appreciated!
(We have tried emailing Numbers files to the iPad, but that is very slow and innefective.)

  • How to synch calendars between iPad and MacBook Pro?

How do I synch calendars between iPad and MacBook Pro?

Thank you for your help. However, I still have no connection; could it be that the laptop is signed in through my account and the iPad through my wife's?
If so, must I delete her iCloud account and reestablish it as mine?
    Thank you

  • TS4185 Trouble using FaceTime between a new MacBook Pro 13" and iPad2.

I recently upgaded my daughter's 2008 MacBook to a new 13" MacBook Pro.
Since the upgrade we are unable to FaceTime from her new MacBook Pro to my iPad2. Calls start OK but then after a few seconds video freezes at the iPad end and then goes black. Audio continues in both directions and video from iPad2 to the MacBook Pro is OK.
This didn't happen with the old MacBook and nothing else has changed. I can receive FaceTime calls from the MacBook Pro on my iPhone 4S in the same location where the iPad2 will not work.
I think the problem is the higher video resolution from the MacBook Pro. I have 100Mbps broadband, iPad2 shows over 35Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload on Speedtest.net. I have tried resetting the iPad2 a number of times with no effect.
    - Is it possible to lower the resolution beng sent from the MacBook Pro ?
    - Any other ideas ?

If your computer meets these requirements, you will be all set.

  • Connection failures between iMac and Macbook Pro

I'm experiencing frequent connection failures over my wi-fi network between my iMac and Macbook Pro on an otherwise strong, stable network. I can connect both of my computers to the Airport Time Capsule that I use as my wireless router without a problem, but for some reason I get connection failures between the computers say, 50% of the time. Sometimes it works fine, others it just hangs before giving me an error message. Any suggestions?
    OS 10.9.3 on both machines
    Apple Airport Extreme Time Capsule
    iMac, 3.06GHz i3 (2010)
Macbook Pro Retina, 2.4 GHz i7 (1st Gen)

    Hi jt in nyc,
    Some checks:
Use Airport Utility on one of the machines
    - Click on the Time Capsule ( enter password if prompted )
    - Click on the Edit button
Under Airport Utility -> Wireless -> Wireless Options
Are the Time Capsule Wireless options set correctly?
    - Country -> you know this, change if it is not
    - 2.4GHz and 5GHz Channel set to Automatic
    - Click on Cancel button to return to the Airport Utility graphic diagram.
    - Click on the Time Capsule
    - Click on your machines listed beside wireless clients
Are the machines reporting an excellent quality at different distances from the Time Machine?

  • IPhoto not working after trying to share iPhoto between iMac and MacBook Pro

I tried to share my photos on both my iMac and MacBook pro. It deleted all my photos in my MacBook and now it won't let me even open iPhoto in my iMac and gives me the following message "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
How do I rectify this? Purchase iPhoto from the App store?

What version of iPhoto do you have on each system?
It sound like you propbably have a newer version of iPhoto on the MBP - and thay you opened the iMac iPhoto library using the newer iPhoto - if you did you were warned that doing this would convert the library and that the older version of iPhoto could no longer open the library - the error message you list says that this is what you did
If you did the only options are to restore your iMac backup from before you converted the library, upgrade iPhoto on the iMac the same version you have on your MBP purchasing from the App store or use iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  to downgrade your library

  • Sharing computing power between macpro and macbook pro

Hey all... someone mentioned to me that I can connect my latptop and desktop together so that I can "combine" processsing power. I use various music creation software, logicpro and protools and would like to use the laptop to offload/run the plugins and the desktop to run the audio programs. Can this be done? If so, how? I will also post this to the Logic forum. Thanks.

macpro and macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

i must be humorously challenged... LOL... I am using my Macs for processing audio via Protools and Logic. What I wanted to do was to offload some memory intensive programs to the laptop, stuff like Altiverb, Soundtoys and NI software instruments. I generally have no issues running the Logic plugs but add BFD, NI Absynth, Soundtoys Echoboy/Filter Freak and Altiverb, plus Sample Tank etc... and I can melt down the MacPro even with 4G Ram... not so much running Logic but for sure with ProToolsLE.

  • HT5887 What about airdrop between iOS and Macbook Pro?

Will the iphone 5s be discoverable for macbook pro anytime soon? Im not able to airdrop anything between my macbook pro and my iphone 5s.

We are just users, so we cannot tell you the answer. AirDrop is not designed to transfer files between an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and a Mac yet.

  • FAcetime between iPad and MacBook

I cannot establish a FaceTime connection between my iPad mini and MacBook Air. Keeps dropping instantly

I am not sure that you can FaceTime between two devices that have the same ID as they are both identified as 'you'. That way, if someone calls you on FaceTime, they will both ring and you can use whichever device you want or prefer to use. Does FaceTime to other people work okay?

  • Sharing Photo Books between iMac and MacBook Pro

    Hello!
We created a photo book on iLife 09 on the MacBook Pro and wanted now to use parts of that layout in a new photo book we are creating on the iMac. I opened sharing preferences and opted to share that book, but on the iMac, I only have the photos from the photo book, and not the layout.
Is it possible to share the book including layout between the two computers using a network?
    Thanks for your help

Is it possible to share the book including layout between the two computers using a network?
No. The only way to get a book from one Mac to another is to copy the entire library and run that library on the other Mac. You can't move layouts between libraries, only photos as you've already discovered.

  • Sharing between iMac and MacBook Pro

I just got a MacBook Pro. I already have an iMac, and I was curious if there was a way to share info between the two without connecting them via firewire? (For example, sharing my itunes library between the two computers)

This does not work!.  I have a MacBook Pro and iMac and i want my Macbook to be able to add content to my iMac.  I am burining CD's and movies that I own so i can view and listen on AppleTV but When adding content via my Macbook pro (Beacuse it has the CDROM) i want it to be available on the iMac and on the Macbook via my home network.
To get around the issue i have shared the Automaticlly Add to Itunes foler on my iMac so after i burn the files i can copy them over. I just hate doing this step.
    Any Ideas?
