Fact table is joining with Other table having values for measures

I have one Fact table named Fact1 where i am going to create some calculation measures based on the values in Table2.
How should be the physical join between them and the logical join.
Earlier we had those VALUES in Fact1 only
Why we created table Table2 is there was bit confusion for the aggregation in Fact1.
We are bit confused on whether to make Table2 as dimension or Fact as it is having some measures and not having the foreign keys
How we have to proceed now..!! Please help us!!?

But the selection is not a property, it is a value... I just tried it and you can have different selections. Just not different items.

Essbase Variable with more than a value for use after in Planning forms.

I want to now if it would be possible to create a variable with more than a value for use after in Planning forms.
The variable that I want to use is created in Essbase.
Example:
&Years = FY08,FY09,FY10

The only workaround I know for the problem is to create parent in the dimension.
In your case, create member “planyears”.
Then you define children that are shard (this are the multiple member for the variables FY08, FY09 etc..)
Create Essbase sub variable that will have 1 member value “planyears”
When you use the Sub Variable in form select function “Children” and in that case it will use the member FY08,FY09 etc on the form.
Limitation: I’m working on version 9.2.0.3 so you can’t create hierarchy in the year dimension, but you can use it in other dimension.

Records getting multiplied by a factor of 3 when joining with other table

When i query a table association_1 records for a particular network element i get 7 records
but join it with rtts_association table to get the rtts_no i m getting 21 records.....
the problems is ... 7 records are getting multiplied by a factor of 3 resulting in 21 records ....
how can i avoid these extra records that appear in the second query

Case statement resulting into Left outer join with other tables

Hi All ,
I am facing a stuation where a Case statement on one of the logical columns in Answers is resulting into a left outer join with a table in the query.
If we remove the case stmt, the table is not being acessed.
The case stmt is a simple one and no other logical column is being accessed in the case stmt.
Please advice .

No ..we dont have any left outer join ...its just that I am selecting measure from F1 which has a confimred dimension D1 with F2.Now when I dont have case stmt on measure from F1(Case stmt is something like : CASE WHEN "- P table"."P Column" = 'Y' THEN 'Right' ELSE 'Wrong' END), then it doesnt query F2.
However as soon as I introduce the case stmt ,the query creates a left outer join with F2.

Partition Eliminiation on views and joins with other partitioned tables

I have a bunch of tables that are daily partioned and other which are not. We constantly join all these tables. I have noticed that partition elimination doesn't happen in most cases and I want some input or pointers on these.
Case 1
We have a view that joins a couple of partitioned tables on the id fileds and they the partition key is timestamp with local time zone.
TABLEA
tableaid
atime
TABLEB
tablebid
tableaid
btime
The view basically joins on tableaid, a.tableaid = b.tableaid(+) and a bunch of other non partitioned tables. atime and btime are the individal partition keys in the tables and these time do not match up like the id's in other words there is a little bit of correlation but they can be very different.
When I run a query against the view providing a time range for btime, I see partition elimination on tabled in the explain plan with KEY on Pstart/Pstop. But its a full tablescan on tablea. I was hoping there would be somekind of partition elimination here since its also partioned daily on the same datatype timestamp with local time zone.
Case 2
I have a couple of more partitioned tables
TABELC
tablecid
tablebid
ctime
TABLED
tabledid
tablebid
dtime
As you can see these tables are joined with tablebid and the times here generally correlate to tableb's timestamp as well.
Sub Case 1
When I join these tables to the view and give a time range on btime, I see partition elimination happening on tableb but not on tablea or any of the other tables.
Sub Case 2
Then I got rid of the view, wrote a query that us similar to the view where I join on tableaid (tablea and tableb), then on tablebid (tableb, tablec and tabled) and a few other tables and execute the query with some time range on btime and I still see that partition elimination happens only on tableb.
I thought that if other tables are also partitioned on a similark key that partition eliminition should happen? Or what am I missing here that is preventing from partition elimination on the other tables.

Performance is of utmost importance and partition pruning is going to help in that. I guess that's what I'm trying to acheive.
To achive partition elimination on tablec, d, etc I'm doing an outer join with btime and that seems to work. Also since most of the time after the partition elimination, I don't need a full tablescan since the period I will be querying most of the time will be small I also created a local index on id field that I'm using to join so that it can do a "TABLE ACCESS BY LOCAL INDEX ROWID" this way it should peform better than a global index since the index traversal path should be small when compared to the global index.
Of couse I still have problem with the tablea not being pruned, since I cannot do an outer join on two fields in the same table (id and time). So might just include the time criteria again and may be increase the time range a little more when compared to what the actual user submitted to try not to miss those rows.
Any suggestions is always welcome.

Fact table showing incorrect quantity measure

I have a scenario where i have a fact table with multiple rows and two quantity fields. My source system holds sales by "package" which can contain any number of components. The grain of my invoice table is component level. See
structure below:
PACKAGE1
- Component1 - each package contains 2 of these
- Component2 - each package contains 1 of these
So if i am reporting a sale of PACKAGE1, for a quantity of 2 - component1 had a total sales quantity of 4 and component2 has a total sales quantity of 2. However the package was only sold 2 of, but because of the sum aggregation, i see a total quantity
sold for PACKAGE1 of 6, but it should only show 2 at that level. I have looked at semi-additive measures but am unsure of how this would work in this scenario, or which option would work best for me here.
My fact table has 2 rows, each of which reference the component as one dimension and the package as another dimension.
As a workaround, I have created a calculation to divide the quantity by the number of package components (so it would show a 1 for each of the component lines in my fact table), but then the sales quantities of the components reported are incorrect.
What is the best approach for this?

FLEET Table, Possible Values For Field IS SI UNIT

Dear experts,
While doing analysis on fleet data I realized that for field IS_SI_UNIT (PM: Vehicle Data in SI Unit (e.g. Dimensions)) in table FLEET in two separate systems we have vehicle records set with different entries for this field.
In one system vehicles are stored with value F: DB Unit set individually (new)
and in other one with value Y: DB Unit set through (new)
Systems are SAP ECC 6.0
Does anyone know what does it mean and what influence this has? In both systems vehicles are created by end users using standard PM creation transaction and those indicators are set in background while equipment is saved so there is not influence by end user.
I could not find much information on SAP support portal about meaning behind possible values for field IS_SI_UNIT in table FLEET so was wondering if anyone knows more here?

There will not be any impact.Finally system will consider only SI units for fleet equipment consumption calculation.

XSLT List View Web part with Inline Editing changing value for one field changes the other lookup field

It's a bit of a weird one. In an XSLT List View web part when Inline editing is enabled if I change the date column, it changes the lookup field column as well. This behavior only occurs if the lookup list has more than 20 entries. Below 20 and we are
OK.
Let me explain by example:
MileStones List - Having more than 20 items
Tasks List - having a lookup to the Title field from MileStones list. Also having a due date field.
Simple web part page with one XSLT List View web part for Tasks having inline editing enabled.
When I edit the first record's due date and press enter (which saves the changes and moves onto next record) and change the due date on second record without even touching the MileStone field. Press enter to commit changes and you see the milestone changing
on first record!
The wierd thing is that if the MileStone list has less than 20 items all works as expected.
Any pointers will be appreciated

Hi,
This is a known limitation when working with complex fields like Lookup field.
A workaround is that we can avoid using the inline edit feature when there are
complex fields in a list.

Invoice Forms created with Adobe X - default value for "total" column should be blank

I am new to the forum and just finding my way around. Thank you for any help.
I've created an invoice template in Word, then imported it into Adobe X Pro to turn it into a form. Pretty simple, but one thing is troubling me. I have the usual description, quantity, price each, and total columns. The "total" columns are defaulting with a "0" in them, and I'd prefer they default blank unless an entry is made on that line. I have right-clicked the "total" fields properties and the default values are blank already, but a zero still shows up. I know it can be done because one of my earlier forms defaults to a blank space until I entered something on that line. Then it calculated. How can I make the "total" column blank unless something is entered there?
Secondly, when I save a form and want to go back to make changes, I'm not seeing how to do this. It seems to save as a .pdf, and if I want to modify the form portion I have to start all over from scratch. What am I missing?

I've entered the script, and no change. The "total" columns still show a (zero) 0 even when I have not entered anything in that line.
For example:
Description             Qty     Unit Price     Total
                                                                         0
                                                                         0
                                                                         0
etc... all the day down the form.
I'd like the zeroes not to appear when there is nothing on the Description lines.
Incidentally, when selecting fields to use for calculations for the "total" column, we're supposed to place a check mark in the box of the fields to be calculated - and I can't CLICK in them. I have to use the space bar. Is that how it is supposed to work?

Fact tables with different granularity

We currently have 3 dimensions (Site, Well, Date) and 2 fact tables (GasEngine, GasField), both having granularity of a day.
GasEngine is linked to Site and Date
GasField is linked to Site, Well and Date
We now have a requirement to make the GasEngine fact table have granularity of an hour but keep
GasField at a day.
We therefore must include a new Time dimension, which would only be linked to GasEngine.
Is it ok to have a DW with these two fact tables having different granularity?
And would we therefore require two separate cubes for querying this data?

Based on your input provided to this thread, I would like to ask a question just to fine-tune my knowledge regarding data modelling. In Darren’s case I guess his date dimension only store dimension records up to day level granularity. Now the requirement
is to make the “GasEngine” fact table to hold data granularity of an hour.
Now based on Rajendra’s input
“Yes, you can have. but why you need new time dimension, I recommend, make GasEngine fact to
hour granularity.”
How Darren could display data for each hour without having a time dimension attached to GasEngine fact table? With the existing date dimension he ONLY can display the aggregated data with the minimum granularity of day level.
Now anyone can modify the date dimension to hold time records which will complicate the date dimension totally. Instead why Darren cannot have a separate time dimension which hold ONLY time related data and have a timekey in GasEngine fact table and relate
those tables using the time key? This way isn’t Darren’s data model become more readable and simplified? As we provide another way of slicing and dicing data by using a time dimension I do not think Darren’s cube becomes a complex STAR schema.
I could be totally wrong therefore for the sake of knowledge for Darren and me I am asking the question from both of you.

Fact table with 2 time keys, measures showing together in the same report

I am using OBI EE and I have the following scenario: a fact table hold information about enquiries. An enquiry may or may not generate an appointment. So in my fact table I have two date columns: enquiry date and appointment booked date (not the date of the appointment itself, but when it was actually booked).
This raises a couple of questions. First question is: I can only have one logical FK to the Times table, how to create two LFKs for those 2 dates? Should I create a logical copy of the Times table in the BMM, along with another time dimension?
Second question is how to display both pieces of data in the same report. For instance, in a summary report per month I want to see the number of enquiries made and appointments booked in each month. Most likely they will be different numbers and refer to different rows in the database. What is the best way to model this in the BMM?
For instance, in October there were 10 enquiries, 8 of them were converted into appointments along with 3 enquires made in September. So, the report should show for October: number of enquires: 10, number of appointments: 11 (8 from October + 3 from September)
Sorry if this is a basic question but I couldn't find around any examples of this scenario.

Just one issue that I noticed... I have other dimensions on that fact table, one of them is "channel". Channel is linked to a column in the original fact table, as is Number of Enquiries.
If I include Channel in a report that shows Number of Enquiries and Number of Appointments, the Number of Appointments column only shows zeros, while the Number of Enquiries column still shows the correct numbers:
Month    Channel   Enquiries   Appointments
Jan 09   Email      100           0
         Phone      120           0
Feb 09   Email       87           0
...Then I figured out that I needed to add a PFK for all dimensions to the aliased fact table, not only for the times dimension.

How to Synchronize cube measures with relational fact tables?

Dear all,
I built a simple analysis cube on Oracle 10g R2 using AWM.
The problem is when I change in the column associated with a base measure of my cube and then do cube or measure maintenance using the maintenance wizard of AWM, the measure value does not change and does not reflect the changes i made in the fact table.
Please tell me how to keep the cube measures on sync with the fact table columns

Hi there,
if you delete data in your fact table, i would asume that you have to delete the data in the cube, too. This is not done by "maintain cube".
According to your load strategy you have delelete the old data e.g. for the whole cube or just for a given time data (day/month).
You can use the dml command "clear" or just search in this forum for "clear cube".
Maybe this helps you to "synchronize cube".
If not, the questions would be:
Is new data loaded in the cube correctly?
Is updated data loaded in the cube correctly?
Is data in the cube, which is not present in the fact tables?
