Factory inside a web application. Design issue.

Hi all,
My web application has a SearchManager. (which obviously doing search).
class SearchManager{
   SearchFactory factory = new MySearchFactory();
   public SomeClass onSubmit(HttpRequest request, HttpResponse response, SomeCl obj){
        factory.search();
}I need a connection (instance of MyConnection) for doing the search which is kept in the session.
My question is: which is the best option from the following.
Option 1
Send the HttpSession into the SearchFactory and retrieve MYConnection instance from session, and perform the search.
factory.search(searchCriteria, session)
Option 2
Retrieve the MYConnection instance from session inside the SearchController and send the MyConnection to SearchFactory and perform the search.
MyConnection connection = session.getAttribute("connection");
factory.search(searchCriteria, connection);
One point to note:
SearchManager class does not require the MyConnectioin instance for any reason. But the Factory also does not need the session except to get the connection instance.
Could you guys please discuss this and show me which is good and why?
Thanks in advance.
Kamal

If the searchManager has a reference to connection wouldn't
it be an extra burden to have the searchManager in
the session rather than just having the connection
object?Extra burden on what?
If you store a reference to the SearchManager or if you store a refernce to the connection object, there is no difference?
I personally feel that it is better to store the SearchManager. You can personally feel different.
Now my question is: when we store an object in the
session, what get stored in the session actually?A reference to the object in the JVM gets stored.
Say above is my searchManager. If I store an instance
of this will it store the connection attribute also
inside the session? What actually get stored? When you store the reference to the SearchManager, the SearchManager has a reference to the connection object.
Only the reference to the SearchManager is stored in the sesssion.
and the connection reference is part of the SearchManager.
If you store the SearchManager reference in the session object, there is no need to explicity store a reference to the connection object becuase the SearchManager has this already.

  • Bex Web Application Designer issue: portal communication error

    hi experts,
I am working with Bex Web Application Designer in BI7. we are using SP9. When i try to use the Web template its giving below error.
The Requested operation could not be performed due to portal communication error.
its message class is RSBOPLAP and message number is 018 and description is Java System error: An unknown error occured During portal communication.
when i double click the below error details given.
    Diagnosis
An error occurred in the BI components on the SAP J2EE Engine.
    System Response
    Procedure
Contact your system administrator to have the error analyzed in detail.
    Procedure for System Administration
Start the Visual Administrator, log on to the SAP J2EE Engine and choose "<J2EE_SID>" ->"Server" -> "Services" -> "Log Viewer".
The file "defaultTrace.trc" includes detailed information about the error that occurred. In Windows, you can find this file in the Log Viewer under "Cluster <computer name>" -> "Server <server number>" -> "<drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC<INSTANCE>\j2ee\cluster\server<NUMBER>\log". ". In Unix, the file is located under "/usr/sap/<SID>/JC<INSTANCE>/j2ee/cluster/server<NUMBER>/log".
If the file does not include enough detail about the error, you can increase the log level to obtain more information. To do this, choose "<J2EE_SID>" -> "Server" -> "Services" -> "Log Configurator". On the "Locations" tab page, choose "com" -> "sap" -> "ip" -> "bi" -> "webapplications". Using the selection list on the right side of the screen, you can increase the log level, whereby "DEBUG" represents the log level with the most information. You can save your settings by choosing the "Save" icon. The change to the log level is active immediately. Once you have successfully analyzed the error, you should set the log level back to its default value using the appropriate pushbutton; continuous writing to the log file negatively affects the overall performance of the system.
please give solutions to resolve the issue.
    regards

    hi shambhu,
thanks for the reply, yes its related to basis but they are unable to trace it out. is SP9 support Bex Report Designer and Bex WAD??

    Hello
It is obvious that the connection between the ABAP and the Java is not working.
There should be a JCo RFC from the portal side to the ABAP stack set up and an RFC from the ABAP stack to the portal.
Check the entries of the table RSPOR_T_PORTAL
The RFC specified here should be the one mentioned above (ABAP - Java)
Check the name of the system should be SAP_BW
Is the parameter icm/host_name_full set on the ABAP stack with the domain name ?
    Connect to the BI portal:
    http://FQDN:5NN00/irj/portal
Navigate to system administration -> system configuration -> system landscape -> expand "portal content" -> systemlandscape -> SAP_BW
Right click on SAP_BW - Open - Object
Here you need to maintain these:
ITS Description - BW ABAP Logical System Name - Tx SCC4 or BD54
ITS Host Name  - FQDN_OF_BW_ABAP:port - You can use the value of icm/host_name_full parameter and retrieve port number from Tx SMICM - Services
    ITS Path - /sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui
    ITS Protocol  - Select http
Logical System Name  - BW ABAP Logical System Name - Tx SCC4 or BD54
    Logon Method  -SAPLOGONTICKET
Message server - BW ABAP FQDN
SAP Client - BW ABAP Client Number
SAP System ID (SID) - BW ABAP SID
    Server Port - 39NN
Web AS Description - BW ABAP Logical System Name - Tx SCC4 or BD54
Web AS Host Name - FQDN_OF_BW_ABAP:port - icm/host_name_full and retrieve port number from Tx SMICM - Services
    Web AS Path - /sap/bw/BEx
If everything is set properly then do a test connection.
    Good Luck

  • How to maintain Master Data through Web Application Designer layout.

    Hi.
I’m Internship and I have to do something that it doesn’t work.
    I explain to you.
I have to make a layout via Web Application Designer to permit users to add a line in the master data XST_RFC.
For that, I did two things:
    First I followed this url : http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/607193d5-cdd5-2b10-c699-8ff04c3124f6?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true&38392712686871
The result; I have a problem with the appendix of method execute “DATA : ZL_WORKTEXT Type ZFREETEXT”. Here, SAP doen’t permit me to put XST_RFC (my characteristic to add by the user) but just /BIC/PXST_RFC… So, I tried with that and at the moment of the test in the Wad, the application say me “no Master Data in XST_RFC”. I know that there are no MD in my char, I just want to add once…
    So it doesn’t Work.
Secondly, after testing, the Function Module test works. When a put an ID in the test page of SAP Logon in parameters, the FM put this ID and create a new line with this new ID. So I had an idea, use directly this function module in a Fox Formula but, when a call my function, I have a problem with variable/parameters type.
My variable is TYPE XST_RFC , but my parameters is TYPE  /BIC/PXST_RFC….
    My Fox Formula
    DATA NEW_RFC TYPE XST_RFC.
    NEW_RFC = VARV(XVOU_RFC).
    CALL FUNCTION ZBWDSST_XX_MASTERDATAMAINTAIN
    EXPORTING
    VAR_RFC = NEW_RFC.
My error message Types of parameter VAR_RFC () and variable NEW_RFC(C) are inconsistent
If you can help me, I work on this issue for 4 days and I waste my time.
    Thanks.
    BR

    Dear All,
The text flow for 0WS_QUEST & 0WS_QSTNNR is sufficient to make available Criteria from source system questionnaire in BW.
After the text load (even it does not generate SID) we can already use Tcode SRM_VE_GROUPING & SRM_VE_WEIGHTING for customization of groupping and weighting in BW.

  • Web Application Designer standstill since BW SP25 / BI Java SPS 23

    Hi experts,
in February we implemented the latest SPs into a SAP development system of our customer.
Since then the BEx Web Application Designer doesn't work anymore for them.
It just hangs up and you cannot even close it.
I will provide the tracefile in an answer to this post because otherwise the post won't be readable.
I've found note 1437358 concerning NullPointerException (but not NullReferenceException) but I doubt that this has something to do with our issue.
Does anybody have an idea what could cause this problem and how it could be solved?
    WAD 7.20 is used.
    Best wishes
    Marie

  • Chart problems in Web-Application Designer

    Hello,
I am trying to use CHART in Web Application Designer.
But whatever TYPE I select in that (pie/stack/..),
It shows the report with default chart type..
Then after one /two trials, I have run time error. & Web application Designer crashes. In preview of that chart on template, it shows the chart type I have selected.
What am I missing in my steps. Or is some library missing..
    Thanks for you suggestion.
Is very urgent & as I need to show report tomorrow.
    Regards,
    Santosh

    Hi Santosh,
<b>Defining the Width and Height of the Entire Chart</b>
    in the Properties
Enter the desired values in fields Width and Height of the window in which you are editing the chart. The entries should be in pixels.
    Choose Apply.
The size of the entire chart is changed according to your specifications.
Changing the Size of the Entire Chart with the Mouse
Point to the border of the preview window with the mouse.
The cursor becomes a double arrow.
Click on the border and pull the preview window to the required size.
The size of the entire chart is changed when you let go of the mouse key.
Changing the Size of the Plot Area or the Legend with the Mouse
Click on the element whose size you want to change (plot area or legend).
The element is enclosed in a move handle.
Point to one of the move handles with the mouse.
The cursor becomes a double arrow.
If the cursor does not become a double arrow, you might not have selected the right element, for example the chart area instead of the plot area. In this case click again on the element whose size you want to change.
Click on the move handle and keep the mouse key pressed.
    The cursor becomes a cross.
Pull the element to the desired size.
The size of the element is changed when you let go of the mouse key.
Avoid stretching the plot area over the whole area of the chart. The outermost border of the plot area disappears from the visible area in this case and cannot be clicked on again. You cannot change the size of the plot area. If you made the plot area too large by accident, you can undo it with the menu option Undo in the context menu. You can reset the plot area to its original size with Reset, but you will lose all the changes you made to the chart.
    <i><u><b><b><b><b>
It is simple issue D't worry..And one morething is  Check the <b>Specific Properties</b> of the Template</b></b></b></b></u></i> in Design of the web template.
    Thanks

  • Bex Web Application Designer 3.5

Hello, I am having trouble publishing a web template using Web Application Designer 3.5.  Our BW version is 7.0.  The underlying query in the Web App. is still 3.5.   After editing it..I did a "save" and "Publish in Role".   When I look at the report on the portal, it shows up as garbage.   Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
    Thanks.

    Dear Sam,
Theer are several problems with WAD 3.x.
    Please, review these notes below:
note 1390941 -   Incomprehensible characters when executing 3.X Web template
To remove this entry you can't use the WAD. Please logon to the BW
backend system and execute the report "RS_TEMPLATE_MAINTAIN" (via
transaction SE38). Open the template and manually remove the mentioned
              tag.
note 1391689 -   WAD 3.x is not supported in MS Windows 7
    This should solve the issue.

  • Web Application Designer - Bug

    Hi All,
I keep losing all my BW URL's in Web Application Designer and it is becoming very frustrating.
For some reason when I save a template after making changes it sometimes replaces all the BW URL's which I have coded with:-
    <A href="[SAP_BW_URL_!IID_688]">
And I have to go through and put them all back in again.
Is there something I can do to stop this happening?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sean,
Actually It happened with me too once, I lost all my icons like download to excel, exception, conditions etc and then had to put that back again.
But after that I have made chnages and it didnt happen, It think it happens if you are in HTML tab at the bottom and are trying to chnage the html code, like your gif file path or something, then when you reactivate it messes some of the custom code in it. So please try to be out of HTML mode while reactivating......
I have another issue though, I have a gif file in the html code that i uploaded from MIME repository. This file has the path of dev system example sapb83.com....
sapb83 points to out dev system, now when i transport this to our Production system, while excution of query from BEX Browser, it prompts for dev passoword becasue of the gif file path being from dev..... how can this be made dynamic ??
    thanks
    surendra Jain
PS: SEAN, if you have upgraded to 3.5, please tell me your expereince with upgrade, we are also on 3.1 and will upgrade soon to 3.5, are there some hurdles which if i know before hand will help?? if you would like to share, my email is [email protected]
