Fail to update the jnlp file

The application allowed user to run offline. So ,I use <offline-allowed/> in the JNLP file.
It works well in JDK5.0:
1.the application can run if the network is dropped.
2.the jnlp file will be updated if the server update the JNLP.
But in when I change JDK to version 1.4.2, something unreasonable happened:
Even I update the server's JNLP, the client still use the old JNLP and not update it.
In the JWS1.4.2 Developer Guide, it says:"If offline-allowed is specified, Java Web Start will also check to see if an update is available. However, if the application is already downloaded the check will timeout after a few seconds, in which case the cached application will be launched instead."
What is the "a few seconds" mean?Is there any different between JDK1.4 and 1.5?
The connection between client and server is not very good. I do think it may cause the problem above. But in the same connection condition, JDK1.5 works..
So, is there any thing I can do to resolve this problem?

<jse version="1.5+" />(is one possibility)

  • Does the Browser cach the jnlp-file?

I have a problem, I think with the browser's caching. As I modify the *.jnlp-File, the old version is loaded, not the new one!
Or is the old version cached by the webStart-Caching-Mechanism?
To update the jnlp-file, sometimes it is helpful to clear the Clients webStart cache.
    Is that correct?
    regards,
    ulli

The browser does in fact cache the jnlp and it can be a real problem. If there is no expiration on the JNLP then the browser may load it from cache instead of going to your web server on the next access. This means you may have modified your JNLP on the server for a new release, but users can start your application WITHOUT GETTING THE LATEST JNLP!
You can solve this problem by serving the JNLP file from your own servlet (or other HTTP serving technique) and setting the expire header. Setting it to 0 does the right thing.
Do NOT however, set "Pragma", "no-cache". no-cache stops the browser from writing the JNLP to the file system...this in turn causes a problem when Web Start tries to find the jnlp file after the browser starts Web Start....the jnlp file is not there.
Note that the JnlpDowloadServlet provided by Sun in the Web Start developers kit does NOT expire the JNLP file...you must fix this code yourself if you want it to work correcly. Sun was supposed to make this source code available but I can't find it anywhere. We used a de-compiler to de-compile the code, fix it and re-jar it.

  • Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple.

This morning I was able to download iMovie, iPhoto and iBook Aurhor without getting this error: Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple.
However I am still getting this error when trying to update Numbers, Keynote, Pages and Aperture 3.5. I am starting to think this all maybe caused by a server overload with Apple.
Anyone else receiving this error: "Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple" when trying to update Aperture 3.5?

    Hi William,
What worked for me was changing the certificate preferences in Keychain Access (open Keychain Access app and then go to preferences).
I just changed both of the first two options to 'Best Attempt', they were originaly at 'Require if certificate indicates'.
Then I go to "Purchased" and from there I downloaded the updates, this time without any problems.
    Hope this Helps.

  • Failed to read the configuration file. Fresh install on windows 7

I have just downloaded and installed firefox on my windows 7 computer. No errors on the install. When I try to launch Firefox I get this dialog box. Configuration Error - Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system
    administrator.

Check for the presence of a mozilla.cfg file in the Firefox program folder to initialize some prefs.
This also involves the presence of a .js (JScript) file, probably in "defaults\pref" folder, that specifies to process this mozilla.cfg file.
If you have .js files apart from the channel-prefs.js file, that sets app.update.channel, in the defaults\pref folder then open this file in an editor like Notepad and please post its content.
Also please post the content of the mozilla.cfg file.
There shouldn't be a mozilla.fcg file present unless you've created it yourself to initialize some prefs.
If you have this mozilla.cfg file then best is to do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

  • New Apple Java update breaks jnlp file association

I thought this might be helpful for other people experiencing this problem.
It seems that the latest Java update for Macs (10.5 update 4) breaks the file association for jnlp files. When you use one it opens up a text editor. To make matters worse they have moved the location of Web Start.
The only way we have been able to fix this is:
    1. Control-click the jnlp file that was downloaded to the desktop and select “Get Info”
    2. Click “Open with” and select “Other…”.
    3. At the top of the window select “All Applications” in the Enable box.
    4. Browse to /System/Library/CoreServices and select Java Web Start.
    5. Click the “Always Open With” checkbox at the bottom.
    6. Click the “Add” button.
    7. Double-click the jnlp file on the desktop which should now launch the workbook.
If anyone else has some more information or another solution, then please reply here.

Thank you so much for this. I didn't find this post the first time I searched on this problem, and I was mired down in versions-specific directories with javaws--which appears only as a link that cannot be used as an association.
    MUCH appreciated!

  • JNLP API: Programmatically checking for updates to JNLP file

I have a webstart application, and I'd like to add a function to check for updates while the program itself is running. DownloadService2.getUpdateAvailableResources checks for updates in the JAR file, but not the JNLP file that launched the application. If I deploy new versions of the JAR files I get prompted, but if I add a new JAR file to the JNLP file I don't.
Is there any way to check for updates to the JNLP file?
Also, is there a way to programmatically trigger a background update, so that when the app is next launched it's updated?

I assume you passed in a resource spec with type == ALL or APPLICATION ? If so, it sounds like you need to file a bug with details like JRE version, the JNLP desc. involved.
Is there any way to check for updates to the JNLP file?Yes, call getUpdateAvailableResources(spec) with spec.type == APPLICATION. This supposes to work.
Also, is there a way to programmatically trigger a background update, so that when the app is next launched it's updated?Try adding this to your JNLP:
    <update check="background" policy="always"/>

I try to purchase Pages (after upgrading to Maverick OS) and keep getting this message:
Failed to verify the preflight file. It is not signed by Apple.
How to I get past this?  I cannot find anything referencing preflight file.  Who can identify this?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
    From the menu bar, select

  • "the ipod 'name' cannot be updated. the required file could not be found."

PLEASE can someone help me out on a problem that is infuriating me?? i've not long had my 30GB 5th generation video ipod, and i can't get any photos or video to transfer onto it! when i connect my ipod and itunes opens up, an error message appears saying "the ipod 'name' cannot be updated. the required file could not be found". however, it updates my music no problem..
i've reset my ipod, restored it and wiped all my music off and then transferred it all back on, downloaded the new ipod updater 28-06-2006 and made sure my ipod has the most recent software etc on there, but still no joy!
i never had a problem transferring photos onto my old colour photo ipod (4th generation?), so it's really annoying that i have a supposed 'better' ipod now that won't do this for me!

It sounds like this error message is preventing you from syncing your content to the iPod. I would recommend the troubleshooting steps in the following article:

  • How to disable access to internet completely in the jnlp file

    Hi All,
Can someone help me in figuring out how to disable access to internet completely in the jnlp file.
To be specific with the scenario if the client does not have the JRE installed, i would like to have it downloaded from the server where application runs instead of going to java.sun.com website which needs internet access.
How can we configure it in such a way that it does not go to internet at all.
Here is the snapshot of my jnlp file
    <j2se version="1.5.0+" href="http://java.sun.com/products/autodl/j2se" initial-heap-size="128m" max-heap-size="128m"/>
I tried with the following and still unsuccessful.
    <j2se version="1.5.0+" initial-heap-size="128m" max-heap-size="128m"/>
Could not find any useful information in the documentation.

    see post from Mike at:
