Failed dependencies while installing libstdc++-devel-4.1.2-46.el5.i386.rpm

When i am trying to install the libstdc++-devel-4.1.2-46.el5.i386.rpm on Oracle Enterprise Linux server 5.4 (64BIT) OS, i am getting the following error:
# rpm -ivh libstdc++-devel-4.1.2-46.el5.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:

    There is no 'kernel-devel' package on redhat, if you need the kernel source then you need to pull down a srpm.Of course there's a kernel-devel package. I use it all the time.
    However, the Red Hat (and associated downstream compilations like CentOS and Oracle Linux) don't use DKMS. What you want is to install kernel-devel so it builds the full kernel modules, not the DKMS module. We provide the kernel-devel package for Oracle Linux on the install media, on ULN and via our public yum repository at http://public-yum.oracle.com

    Hello,
    There is a broken link: http://download.oracle.com/otn/linux/instantclient/oracle-instantclient-devel-10.1.0.4-1.i386.rpm
    Actually it says 404 when you want to go: http://download.oracle.com/otn/linux/instantclient/
    Could you fix it?

    Have you tried to trace the sqlplus command ?
    In solaris I would do
    $ truss -o /tmp/kk.out sqlplus xxx/yyy@cccc
    and then I would check what files sqlplus is trying to open and the "presumed" location of such files (at least where sqlplus believe they are).
    I linux I think you have to use strace (similar arguments)
    With these programs, you can see all the system calls done by sqlplus (including the "open" call). Very useful stuff to catch up configuration errors.
    regards.

    Where can i find that listener log file ?Zoltan gave you the specific, one-time answer.
    The generalized, learn-to-self-help answer is:
    Use your os's search utility to fiind any file you want. In the case of Linux, that utility is called 'find'. Instructions on how to use it are all over the net, and the official documentation for all Linux utilties installed on your system can be read by using the 'man' command (ie: 'man find').
    To tie the general to the specific, you would use
    find / -name listener.log  Or, faster and fewer error messages
    find $ORACLE_HOME -name listener.log

    Hi Avi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I was able to install the packages, not eactly the same way as u told but I downloaded them from http://public-yum.oracle.com/ and installed them manually. Was also able to change parameters.
    And Bingo, there was no pre-requisite failures while installing SOA.
    One of the probs that I'm facing now is that when I try to access the WLS Console of SOA after creating domain, I'm able to open it on the local machine using IP and localhost. But it doesn't work the same way when I use hostname. It gives an error saying No Route to the Host. Also I'm not able to access WLS Console from any other machine using IP address of the machine.
    Any inputs that can be of any help.
    Cheers,

    Try to make similar changes (according your JVM, of course)

  • [REDHAT] Newb, rpm, Failed dependencies ...

    People,
    I'm trying to install Oracle on my RH box.
    The Oracle installer complained about some missing rpms:
    Checking for compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for libstdc++devel-3.4.3-22.1; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for openmotif-21-2.1.30-11; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for pdksh-5.2.14-30; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-44.1; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for sysstat-5.0.5-1; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for compat-db-4.1.25-9; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for control-center-2.8.0-12; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    Checking for xscreensaver-4.18-5.rhel4.2; found Not found. Failed <<<<
    I found some close matches on my DVD and installed them with this script:
    #! /bin/sh
    rpm -Uvh compat-db-4.1.25-9.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-44.1.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh libstdc++-devel-3.4.5-2.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh openmotif21-2.1.30-11.RHEL4.4.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh pdksh-5.2.14-30.3.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh sysstat-5.0.5-7.rhel4.i386.rpm
    rpm -Uvh xscreensaver-4.18-5.rhel4.10.i386.rpm
    Now redhat is complaining:

    I have some basic questions.
    Q: What is the best way to deal with this?
    I'm a bit short on common sense when it comes to using rpm to install
    Linux software. I'm worried that if I try to force something in,
    something else, somewhere else will break.
    Now I have some more specific questions.
    I see this:
    + rpm -Uvh control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2.i386.rpm
    warning: control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2.i386.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 443e1821

    libnautilus.so.2 is needed by control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2.i386
    libxklavier >= 1.02 is needed by control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2.i386
    libxklavier.so.8 is needed by control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2.i386
    xscreensaver is needed by control-center-2.8.0-12.rhel4.2.i386
    I assume the proper way to deal with this is to search around on my DVD for 9
    rpms which correspond to the 9 lines above spit out by the error handler.
    True??

    True??True. Message tells you that packages depends on another package or file which is part of other package. All you need to do is to solve all dependencies (install dependent packages).
