Failed to import ActiveX control

I am using VB2005 express and VC#2005 express. With my old friend
VS2003, whenever i needed to add flash to my WInforms, all i needed to
do was to add the control as a com component and drag it on the stage
from the toolbar. Now, when i did the same in new express version,
althogh it is added in the toolbars and the references list, but still,
whenever i try to drag a shockwave flash instance on my win form, i get
the error:
Failed to import ActiveX control, please ensure it is properly registered.
does some one have any idea how to add flash comntrol as we used to do in earlier versions? Please reply this ASAP.
Thanks and regards.
Syed Mazhar Hasan

None of these solutions are working for me.
In VS2005 I'm stuck. I also have VB6 installed, and there the OCX imports fine. In VS2005 I get the above error message, but sometimes I also get a ResolveComReference error.
1) When I go to the obj directories the interop files aren't even generated (so the delete then re-add solution doesn't work for me).
2) running tlbimp on the ocx gives me a TI0000.exe error - Error loading library
3) running aximp on the ocx generates a TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY error.
This ocx has loaded fine in VS2005 before I reformatted my PC, and loads fine on other machines. VS2005 is local, but our code is on a server share drive, so my first thought was some kind of security settings was messed up, but I moved everything to a local drive and still no dice.
I've also made sure that I have the latest VS2005 service packs, and XP is compeletly up-to-date.
I've been working on this for almost a week with no progress, and I'm getting pretty desperate. Anyone have any other ideas?

  • Why did you ignore my post about Flash Player failing to register its ActiveX Control?

    Three days ago I submitted a precisely-worded description of a persistent installation problem:  Every time I attempt to download and install Flash Player V. 16 on my laptop running Windows Vista 64 bit and IE 9, the download completes successfully, but at the end of installation, a dialog box gives this message
    "ActiveX Control failed to register."
    I presume that your installation software was unable to write something into the Windows Registry.  Other software has no trouble writing to my Windows Registry.  My anti-virus software is not blocking the Registry.
    I expressly asked for an Adobe staff member to guide me on how to debug this failed installation.
    All I got was zilch.  Your forum software assured me that my request was posted, but I have not seen it on the list of recent posts.  You made it disappear and did not respond to it.  Your company does not provide any other avenue for a distraught user to obtain technical support.  Your dismissive attitude toward your customers and user community is even more distressing than your bloated, malfunctioning software products.
    Without Flash Player installed, my computer has been dead in the water for ten days.  I can't do my work.  If I am forced to write my own Flash emulator just to get my work done, then I won't need Adobe anymore.

    You're previous post wasn't ignored.  Assisting users on forums is not staffs primary responsibility and we try to assist users as our time allows, in between our responsibilities.  Creating multiple posts for the same issue also doesn't help as it simply forks the problem and results in responses to both, causing confusion.
    Failure to register errors are normally caused by registry permissions issues,  not user permissions issues.  Please review the Flash Player | Windows registry permissions tech note as it addresses this issue.

    Hello,
    There seems to be an entry missing in the
    versionlist.xml file.
    There is an entry missing for wsdetect.dll (isInstalled Class ActiveX Control) from Java 1.7, I believe (there is an entry for 1.6, 1.5, 1.4 but 1.7 is missing).
    Here is the relevant portion of the XML file:
    <blocklistentry key="{5852f5ed-8bf4-11d4-a245-0080c6f74284}" entrytype="2">
    <versionentries numberofelements="4">

    <versionentry groupname="Java(TM) 1.5.0_71" filename="JavaWebStart.dll" productversion="5.0.710.0-5.65535.65535.65535" fileversion="5.0.710.0-5.65535.65535.65535" />

    <versionentry groupname="Java(TM)" filename="*" productversion="*" fileversion="*" />
    </versionentries>
    This causes the alert prompt to appear when using Java 1.7 update 67 even though it's allowed by XML.
    To reproduce, please go to a site that uses wsdetect.dll like Wikipedia (like here
    http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Example.ogg) and check if the prompt appears for you.

  • Video not showing in WMP ActiveX control

    Trying to play an MP4 in Windows Media Player and I get a black control and WMP acts as if it is playing.  The MP4 does not have audio but other posts have suggested this is not affected by this issue.  I have tried all of the various solutions from other posts (converting to WMV, tuning off acceleration, ensuring WMP and refnums are closed properly) and nothing seems to work.
    I've been able to get the video to work at times, but after it starts to flake out (black) it never seems to recover.  If I recreate the container it always works for at least one play.  It does not matter if I allow it to play all the way to the end or click on the control (and stop it via the event case) -- the error can occur either way.
    At times I have recieved an error (-2147417846) but this does not seem to be required in order to get the no-video effect (effect happens w/ or w/o the error).  I have not been able to track down details on the error but the 750ms delay seems to help with respect to occurence rate.
    When I get the black control, the background shows various other video effects both inside and outside of the ActiveX container.  See the "while_running.png" attachment.  After I stop the VI, the screen looks as in "after_stopping.png".  The "after stopping" look persists until I move the screen (and thereby force a redraw) even a little.
    I do not recall installing any special CODECs, etc. and the videos all work fine repeatedely in stand-alone WMP.

    @Norbert - your callback approach allowed the video to play repeatedly on both test machines, however...  Once you had me apparently past that hurdle I tried to figure out a way to keep the activeX control from resizing (autozoom to video files native size).  I searched through all prop and methods and tried everything I could think of but could not figure it out.  Fine, failing that, I tried to set the window size based on the resulting autosized activeX container with the WMP controls cropped ooutside the front panel window.  That broke the second playing of the video again.
    @Dan - thanks for continuing to look at this.  From my perspective, it feels like the bit that gets corrupted (or set-but-then-not-unset-on-exit-of-first-video) has to do with zoom/scaling or aspect ratio, if that helps.
    Trying to make progress, and not finding any exposed WMP props for setting the player size in the ActiveX container, I tried loading the WMP inside a web page inside an ActiveX container per http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/4540.  This gets me around the uncontrollable autosizing of the original VI (now cotrolled by the HTML layer) and also the no-video issue but introduces a new one -- clicking "stop" on the second-played video often results in a bad refnum passed to the "click" invoke inside the "stop" event case.  The VI stops but the video/audio keep going.   I thought it might be a reload-from-cache effect so I modified the "modifyHTML" subVI to save to a unique temp html file evey time and pass that path (as string) to the URL property in WMPBrowser -- no effect.

    the activex controls for flash player could not be registered
    i have had this problem for a while and cannot seem to get around it please post anyreliable suggestions

    Just to add some additional misery to this thread. I have this exact same issue. Windows 7.
    The issue started several weeks ago, when a flash update failed to install. Everything seemed fine other than every reboot, this flash update would fail (and in fact would "hang"), but flash itself continued to work.
    Yesterday, it stopped completely. It said flash wasn't installed.  I've tried:
    1. Completely uninstalling flash (it is not in Add/remove programs) but using the techniques and videos offered by Adobe to remove the files, using their uninstaller, etc.
    2. Perform the fix as outlined in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/987370 which including installing SubACL, the batch file, etc.  The batch file ran successfully, but did not solve the problem.
    3. I've tried Windows System restore, but it doesn't seem to go back far enough.
    4. I've tried the fixit identifed above in this thread and while it solves certain problems, still doesn't solve my issue.
    5. I've tried installing using the stand alone EXE and MSI from Adobe.
    6. I've tried the 11.9 beta.
    None of these have worked and all result in the "failed to register" error.  I'm currently using the flash built into Google Chrome as I needed to have some working flash component.
    Anyone else have any ideas whatsoever short of a Windows reinstallation?

  • ActiveX controls not downloaded when using Internet Explorer 10

    We have many legacy applications developed using ASP and VB(InterDev). Our organization is moving to use Internet Explorer 10 in the near future.
    We had a IE10 compatibility testing for our legacy applications and we observed that the applications using ActiveX controls are not working. Applications works perfectly fine with the older version of Internet Explorer.
    We looked for the various workarounds but we did not find any.
    Some application does nothing when we click on a button to generate the report but some applications throws the below error:
    <div id="x_x_imcontent"> <div style="font-size: 9pt; direction: ltr;">"ActiveX
    control failed to load! -- This control is required to use the Address Book and Attachment features.  Please check your browser security settings and/or contact PC Support to install the digitally signed control."</div>
    </div>
    We will be glad if we get any assistance on this issue.

    Hi,
    Please post your ActiveX feature testing scripts to the IE Web Developer forum.
    (f12>Debug tab, search for ActiveX.... you should be able to find code blocks where you are feature testing for your ActiveX controls eg var ourcontrol=new ActiveX('foobar');
    these code blocks will be the origin of the error messages that are injected into the page. (you can also search for where the "ActiveX control failed to load" string is in your code.)
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/home?forum=iewebdevelopment
    IE10 has ActiveX filtering.... a blue circle with a line through it appears in the Address bar if any ActiveX content is blocked by Tools>ActiveX filtering.
    IE10 has Enhanced protected Mode turned on by default in the Internet and Restricted Zones. I assume that you are mapping your test domain to the Intranet zone (where EPM is turned off by default and x32 bit controls are used.... if not you should see information
    bars asking for permission to run the 32bit activeX controls)
    Ensure you are using the Default IE security settings, (and also that you have applied the new admx files to your GPO and GPEdit control panels....)
    Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default".
    Ensure your test environment maps to the Intranet Zone (File>Properties) and that Enhanced Protected Mode is turned off for that zone (Security tab of Internet Options)
    Ensure that your ActiveX controls are enabled (Tools>Manage Addons>Show all Addons) and that they have the correct permissions..... find them in the Addons manager and then click the item in the list to display their properties and permissions... at
    the bottom of the Addons Properties there is a textarea with "You have approved this addon to run in the follow websites"... you testing and production domains should be listed.
    For the best solutions/answers you should probably open a support ticket at support.microsoft.com so a support engineer can access your testing environment and do some tests.
    Regards.

  • ActiveX Control recording but not playing back in a VS 2012 Web Performance Test

    I am testing an application that loads an Active X control for entering some login information. While recording, this control works fine and I am able to enter information and it is recorded. However on playback in the playback window it has the error "An
    add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet Options for potential conflicts."
    Window 7 OS 64 bit
    IE 8 recorded on 32 bit version
    I see no obvious security conflicts. This runs fine when navigating through manually and recording. It is only during playback where this error occurs.

    Hi IndyJason,
    Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.
    As you said that you could not playback the Active X control successfully in web performance test. I know that the ActiveX controls in your Web application will fall into three categories, depending on how they work at the HTTP level.
    Reference:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404678%28v=vs.110%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    I found that this confusion may be come from the browser preview in the Web test result viewer. The Web Performance Test Results Viewer does not allow script or ActiveX controls to run, because the Web performance test engine does not run the, and for security
    reasons.

  • Roxio MyDVD Basic v9 installer when I run any ActiveX Control in Excel.

    I built a pop up calendar to insert dates. It works perfectly except that the first time I try to run it after opening the spreadsheet, it launches an installer for Roxio MyDVD Basic v9. I always cancel it and the macro still works as intended.
    Now, this wouldn't be a big problem if I was the only person using the spreadsheet file. Since I'm distributing this as a template to coworkers, I don't want them to freak out when this happens, so I'd rather just stop it from trying to launch Roxio MyDVD.
    I've figured out that it has to do with the Microsoft MonthView Control I used in creating the macro being an ActiveX control. I know this because I can open up a new excel workbook, go to VBA and create a new UserForm. As soon as I place an ActiveX control into the blank UserForm1, the installer for Roxio MyDVD launches. I let it run its course, but it cannot complete the install because the "resources needed are unavailable" on our network. I'd rather not have it run at all. Understandably, our network security is pretty high, and I assume my security settings don't allow it. Since the function I use still works without this installed, I don't get why it keeps reaching out to get it. Nor do I know how to stop it.

    Fixed it.
    Attached is the complete export given by Microsoft System Information. It provides a lot of information and if you need more then let me know.
    Luckily, it seems that MsiInstaller has been reporting errors to Windows while it flickers. You'll find these in the system report and they helped me track down the problems. The errors stemed from this:
    Detection of product '{518930BE-7875-4547-B026-20B92F695781}', feature 'DataSocket.LVW71RTE' failed during request for component '{FC3E0B6E-F62B-11D1-B144-00C04F990B2B}'
    For some reason, it was trying to install these things and it began to fail after the software was uninstalled because the keys it was looking for no longer existed.
    I also found a lot of what looks like data c
    orruption related to NIDAQ stuff in my registry. For instance, many of my Microsoft common controls (like TabStrip) contained a value named InprocServer32 within their InprocServer32 key that had not previously existed. As random as it looks, the value always contained the following string:
    G!P5BM[^==)9LRdDWOXQDataSocket.LVW71RTE>j^8!E}1.(?KY(JMzo[{A@-HK,BS+T93)NrWc5@!pDataSocket.LVW16>j^8!E}1.(?KY(JMzo[{A
    Note that the same string "DataSocket.LVW71RTE" as in the error is contained in there.
    Also, deep in the registry there was this key:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\EB039815578774540B62029BF2967518\Features
    ...that appeared to contain all sorts of gibberish. I have attached an export of that key as well. For example, the value ActiveX.LVW71RTE was set to:
    J$YfbexG-?m!AbH6US{*Msu*X]isJ9X{tiy(&XkvRun_Time_Engine.LVW71RTE
    I can't tell you what was the exact cause of MSVC6 always trying to install these thing
    s and, for all I know, that "gibberish" is actually meaningful, encoded data but deleting those whacked out keys has eliminated the issue.

  • RE: ActiveX control and Active Server Pages?

    Martin, if it works in standalone VB program but not in an .asp page
    through VBScript, I guess the reason may be the type mismatch on the
    parameters of the ActiveX automation methods. VBScript is a subset of VB
    and only supports the OLE data type VARIANT for calling the OLE
    interface. The Conductor ActiveX control probably requires the actual
    data types, such as long, BSTR, and so on, to be used on the parameters.
    As a result, VBScript cannot call the methods on the control. One
    workaround you can try is to create your own ActiveX control which is
    simply a wrapper for calling the Conductor control. Its parameter types
    use VARIANT and you do the data conversion in your wrapper code. Hope
    this helps.

    I don't have 6.1 in front of me now. I came up with a workaround for my application when I encounted this problem. I created an attribute node for the container and the tab control. Whenever the tab control was not on the page with the control, I made the container invisible. This then hid the activeX control.

  • I need a little help help with the Spreadsheet 9 ActiveX control

    Here's the situation: I want to import data from an Excel file to the MS Office Spreadsheet 9.0 ActiveX control on the LV front page. I can retrieve the data just fine but I can't get it to display in the control on the front page. I can select a range and when I try to write to the Value property I find that I cannot. The problem seems to be the Value property itself cannot handle 2-D data arrays. I can select a 2D range and write a single value which gets written to every cell in the range but when I read the data I get only the first cell in the range and an error if I try to caste the Variant output to a 2D array.
    I've noticed a Value2 property for the range when actually working with Excel but I haven't been able to determine where or if it exists for the Spreadsheet 9 control. I've attached a little test program to better show what I'm experiencing/talking about. Anyone have any suggestions on this? It seems like it would be possible or else why have the control there but I haven't found a way around it. Thanks in advance.

    Hey Gary,
    What version of MS Office does the 9.0 ActiveX control come with. I have version 11.0 here. I could get your program working on my computer but I had to reinitialize the activex control to the 11.0 control. I also had to reselect the properties. All the properties are essentially the same except Value. In this ActiveX version, I see the Value2 property (the Value property does not exist). And your method of reading and writing to the Value2 property handles 2D arrays.
    If you can tell me what version of Office you are using, I will try to find a computer with that version and try your program.

    Most of the computers have Office 2000 which uses the Value property and the Spreadsheet 9.0 control. I too have been able to duplicate it ona computer with Office 2000 (Spreadsheet 11.0). I think it may just be a functionality of the Excel version though for some reason if I use Excel and go through the song and dance with the methods and properties, I get to the Value2 property.
    After writing that it seems weird that using Excel properties and methods gets me to the point where I can select the Value2 method and read/write accordigly, but with the Spreadsheet 9.0 control (which, I assume is simply embedding Excel in the app) I get to a different set of properties. Perhps Spreadsheet 10 (or 11) is on the computer but not showing up? That's the only sensible conclusion I can come to, though it seems weird for it to not show up on multiple computers which effectively kills that idea anyway.
    Anyway. thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Flash player 10.1 Help ( ActiveX control and Download manager)

    I've been trying for several hours to download the new flash player 10.1. I tried everything in the FAQ and still nothing. I tried un-installing the older version that I had (9.3.3),   and still nothing.Then when the download manager gets to the end of the download, it keeps saying Error: Installation failed but Adobe Air was still able to download so the problem is obviously flash 10.1. Then it tries to finish installing it and when its done it says that it couldn't register ActiveX control and that error 19166 occured. I already enabled ActiveX so I dont know what the problem could be.
    Help would be appreciated and could someone explain what error 19166 is and how to register or install activex
