Failed to retrieve data set (dsLibrary) for spry:repeat
I've tried to make this work with an external xml file,
external html table, and finally this version with an internal html
table for the data set source. The source table shows up in the
browser along with the error message in a box with red header
"Failed to retrieve data set (dsLibrary) for spry:repeat".
I used one of the Adobe Samples as a base for my page. I've
checked and recheck, and I can't find the source of my problem.
Please help!!!
My code is below and the url to the page is

Error "failed to retrieve data set (ds1) for spry:repeat" in IE when using filters
Everything works fine in Firefox, but in IE7 I get an error
message saying "Failed to retrieve data set (ds1) for spry:repeat."
It seems to be my filter set that's causing this. Once I commented
out the chunk of code that handles filtering, the page finally
loaded. How can I get it to work in IE?
Here's the page:
http://a44.awardspace.com/testing/mbc/portfolio/This usually means the dataset (ds4) can not be found / is not created.
So double check that you have created the dataset.
If this is the case.. please provide us with a online url. -
Failed to retrieve data set (roducts) for spry:repeat
For some reason, I get this error. Clearly the (roducts) should be (products)
however when I do a global search through the entire directory for the word "products" I get 256 results,
I then search for "roducts" and I get 256 results. There is no misspelled word to be found. Something else
is kicking my teeth in. This is running on my desktop IIS 5.1 for development. I'm afraid to upload it to
the live server as it will most likely kill the working live site.
Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions? Thanks heaps!!!Upload it to a sub-directory (called test or similar) on your live site.

Failed to retrieve data set for spry
I created a spry data set on a blank html page and had no
problems. However, when I followed the same steps on an existing
website I get a large box in live view saying "Failed to retrieve
data set (ds2) for spry:repeat". I tried to create the spry set
inside a div which was inside a div that was inside a table. Could
nesting be the problem? Its because you have a JavaScript error on your page.

Help! I have read all the posts and fixes in the forums, but
none seem to be helping me. I have moved this coding from my
homepage to a sub-page. It previously worked fine on the homepage.
The coding is the same, however I get the same error message each
time. What am I missing?

Formatting tags in xml data set used for spry region
I am trying to put
,,,
tags in my xml data set but they cause the field to not load. For example I would like to create an xml file as follows:
<blog>
<blogentry>
<blogdate>Jan 2009</blogdate>
<blogtitle>January Blog</blogtitle>
<blogtext>
this is a paragraph

and so is this

</blogtext>
</blogentry>
</blog>
When I do this I don't get anything in the spry region. If I remove the
,
tabs it works.
Is there anyway to do this (not just with
but with any tags ... ie. tables, etc.).
Thanks/HalI have an online example:
http://www.pearlmanpr.com/perspective_test.html
The spBlog.xml file contains test junk. If I put the <[[CDATA.... inside the BlogEntry/BlogText tag it doesn't work at all.
http://www.pearlmanpr.com/perspective_test_2.html
If I use it without the <[[CDATA..]] it doesnt work either.
http://www.pearlmanpr.com/perspective_test_3.html
If I use it without any <> within the tag it sort of works (still needs to be aligned). -

Account installing SQL server does not have permission to access this. I think case can be here that account with which you logged into your system to install SQL Server might not have certain privileges. Can you take help
of domain admin account add it as a local administrator in this machine always right click on setup file and select run as administrator. Before this make sure you remove all SQL Server components from add remove program

My TechNet Wiki Articles -
"Failed to retrieve data for this request" occurred when I tried to access a database.
Hi,
I installed the sql server 2008 Client on my pc, so that I can connect to a remote sql server 2008 Enterprise cluster. Here is what happened:
0. Added myself as a db_owner on the two databases in the sql server cluster.
1. On my windows xp pro, I typed the server name and log in.
2. After I logged in, I clicked on the Databases to expand the node. However, an error prompt says,
"Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc)
The server principal "DomainName\MyName" is not able to access the database "DevicelockDB" under the current security context. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)"
I only need to connect to two databases that I created on the sql cluster. I don't know why the DevicelockDB is needed before I can access two databases. What does DevicelockDB do? Do I need it for connecting to a database? Let me know, thanks in advance.I had the same problem , this one resolved the problem , thank you deshmukhsdineshd

Hi all,
Has anyone come across SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU8/9 failing to install with a “Failed to retrieve data for this request.” error.
The error is too generic for a useful search on web, for me at least anyway.
Had no problems patching a whole bunch of other servers in the same environment.
I’m no good at reading these error logs. For some reason the primary replica is referenced in the detailed log???
The CU8/9 patch has been run by both Domain Admins and local Admin with no luck.
We are trying to patch a secondary failover replica. (SharePoint 2013 is installed on this server.)
This is from the summary log:
Overall summary:
Final result: The patch installer has failed to update the shared features. To determine the reason for failure,
review the log files.

Thanks for posting the detailed log. I dont have exact solution for this but I can give you some hint what could be reason patch has failed below message points to fact that there is some issue with account which is used to install CU patch.Have alook at
below log.It says that when patch was trying to get details from other node in cluster it was not able to.

IMO I strongly feel it is issue with the account. Microsoft has also documented about this for SQL Server 2008 .Have a look at following links
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2000257
Please also assign privilege mentioned in below link

Hope this helps

Failed to retrieve data from the database.DB Vendor Code 156
Hi,
We recently migrated our scheduled Crystal Reports from BO XI R2 platform to BO XI 3.1, and are having issues with select reports that pull from the same SQL database. The tables and fields exist in the database - and I ran the SQL in a different tool and the syntax is correct. When I try to run an on-demand or schedule one of these reports in 3.1 Infoview I receive the following error:
Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 156 ]
Running:
CR 2008 SP2
BO XI 3.1 SP2 (FP 2.7)
Please advise! Thanks!Hi LuAnn,
Not really clear what he said but I believe this is correct. The BOE servers are typically running under the local System Account. So when it passed the report job from the BOE Server it is the Local System account that the database is getting. We only do single hop for security. Which means if you are logged into InfoView under your local domain account and try to run a report BOE will not, unless specified in the custom database connection options in the CMC, pass your credentials to the DB but will pass the local system account credentials which is likely why these reports are failing.
As A TEST only Ask your Administrator to set up a user account in MS SQL Server that has rights to run all reports. Or when you create the report check on the option to use Trusted Authentication. Then when the reports are published to BOE your log on credentials should get passed to the DB server through BOE.
You'll have to more testing to find a Use account that you can run BOE Servers under and still maintain DB security and report level security that works for you. I also suggest you post your security questions to the BOE Administrator forum to get help configuring all of this and what others are doing.
Thank you

Crystal Reports 2008 - C-ISAM/ODBC Error 42000 Failed to retrieve data
I'm hoping someone out there has a solution to this problem.
I have a bunch of reports which I've converted from CR8.5 to CR2008 (SP2 + HotFixPack 2.7 Installed)
Our server is currently running SCO UNIX OpenServer 5.0.7 with a C-ISAM Database serving our accounting software.
Some of the more basic reports have converted with no problem (daily sales figures etc...), but some reports such as customised purchase orders, and complex sales histories etc... continue to have this problem.
Note, all my reports functioned perfectly under CR8.5.
This error occurs within seconds of executing the report.
FAILED TO RETRIEVE DATA FROM THE DATABASE
Details: 42000:ERROR Syntax Error - Database Vendor Code: -1
After which, the winsock comms need to be reset.
One example SQL query is as follows (on a report re-designing my purchase order for imported products.
SELECT purchase_order.po_order_no, purchase_order_line.stock_code, purchase_order.po_backorder_flag,
purchase_order_line.po_line_description, stock_master.stk_desc_line_3, stock_master.stk_description,
stock_master.stk_desc_line_2
FROM (purchase_order_line purchase_order_line INNER JOIN purchase_order purchase_order ON

Does anyone have any idea??? Really driving me insane... Is it the order of my links, type of links, grouping??????
Strangely, some other similarly linked reports work perfectly.
Cheers in advance,
SteveHi Steve,
If you open the Report and then click on DataBase, Log on and connect first. Then open your report, then Database, Set Location and once it's done then Verify the Database. Fix any errors or warnings that may pop up.
Lots of changes between 8.5 and 2008. CR detects that the report is the old format and it then goes through an series of internal report upgrade routines to convert all functions to the current format.
Also, all of the database drivers were re-written to take advantage of the updated functionality and Client enhancements. As well as we removed any "custom hacks" that we did back then to fix "issues" int he DB client drivers at the time. All of those "fixes" were removed, to much work to maintain them all, now if there are issues it's usually due to the DB Client not following ANSII 92 Standards.
One issue that does show up from time to time is that the order you inserted the tables can have an affect on how CR generates the SQL, may not be the case for your issue though, just something to watch for.
What happens if you create a new report and use that same SQL, save it, close all, re-open the report and run it. Do you get the same errors?
Also note: you did not say if you also updated the ODBC driver? As of CR 9 we are UNICODE compliant, may be your client needs to be updated also. Also verify it's using ODBC 3 and not ODBC 2 standards.
Thank you
Don

Crystal Add on Failed to retrieve data from the DB Vendor Code: 2812
Hi everyone
Im using Sap Business One Version 2007A SP00 PL49, SQL 2005 and Crystal Reports Basic for Sap Business One (Add on 2.0.0.7). Whenever i try to generate a report from SBO the system displays the following message "Failed to retrieve data from the database DETAILS: Database Vendor Code: 2812"
The scenario is that, according to the Colombia's product local expert, Is not possible to create Stored Procedures, Views, Functions or anything in the customer productive database, in order to improve the performance of the query i created other DB where i created an stored procedure, after that, i called it from Crystal where it's working ok. But when i try to generate it from SBO it show the message promted.
Someone knows what could be happening
I'll be thankfulHi everyone
My Stored Procedure contains the following code "annar.dbo.OIBT c", where Annar is the database name.
When i execute the report in Crystal directly is working without Issues, There everything is ok, the Stored Procedure parameters, sorts, cross tab. When i try to executed it from SBO it shows the prompt error.
The connection was OLE DB (ADO). I created an ODBC connection with the following settings
- SQL autentication based on Id and password created by user, in this case sa
- "Use Identifiers between "" ANSI " and "Use Null, filled and ANSI warning " are ticked.
- Execute character data conversion.
Microsoft SQL Native Client Versión 09.00.1399

Right now with Those setting is running ok again in Crystal Reports but when i try to execute from SBO the error has changed the error now is "connection could not be opened", Report Name in this case "Informe Stock Total" { 1D2DBDC5-41DE-43C0-A23C-391E7AEF2A37}.rpt

Failed to retrieve data from the database. [Database Vendor Code: 116]
My report is using Java Bean class as datasource and the Java Bean class calls a report-specific Java program to return a result set.
Report fails to generate and the error message is
Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 116 ]
Can anyone tell me what error code 116 means?
Thanks. The problem is solved internally. Our team implemented a result set data structure that incorrectly converts a Double into a String before passing it to Crystal Report for rendering. Data Vendor Code I met yesterday was the outcome of illegal class conversion.
I have a side question; our development team would like to use log4j to log method calls invoked during rendering. Our problem could be solved earlier if we knew getString() was invoked instead of getDouble() during rendering. We thought of specifying the full path of log4j jar file in CRConfig.xml but we don't know how to configure CR to write logging information into a specific file location.
Please help.

Crystal Reports - Failed to retrieve data from the database
Hi There,
I'm hoping that somebody can help me.
I've developed a crystal report from a stored procedure which I wrote. I can execute the stored procedure within SQL Server and within the Crystal Reports designer without any errors. Furthermore, I have imported the report into sap and can run it within SAP from the server without any errors. SAP version 8.81 PL5
The issue is that when it's run from a client machine, I get the following error: "Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: Database Vendor Code: 156. Error in the File RCR10010 {tempfile location}
Here's a list of things which I have tried, all to no avail:
- Checked user permissions to ensure that they have proper authorizations
- Re-set the datasource connection and re-imported the report to SAP.
- Exported the report and reviewed the datasource connection and re-imported to SAP.
- Tried to run the report on multiple machines to ensure that it's not machine specific
- Tried to run the report using different users to ensure it's not user specific.
- Tested other reports built from stored procedures on client machines to ensure that they work.
Any assistance in this would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank youAfter further testing, we found that the report could be run within SAP on any work station which had the CR designer installed on it.
As it turns out, the procedure which I wrote has temp tables in it. The runtimes built into the SAP client install do not support creating temp tables when executing the report from within SAP. Which is why the report could not retreive data.
To work around this, I installed external runtimes which were the same version of the Crystal Report and now the report can be run within SAP from any workstation which has the external runtimes (and not just the runtimes within the SAP client).
I hope this makes sense.
