  • Potential Windows Update database error detected 0x80070490

This is the response I get when I run the Windows update troubleshooter from the Windows 8.1 Action Center.  If I click next it reports the errors have been fixed.  However if I run it again it reports exactly the same errors.
After searching the Internet I have found that several users have reported having this issue.  As result of the aforementioned search I have tried the following:
    1) Run the Fixit tool for Windows 8.1 located at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us.
    2) Run the System Update Readiness commands: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth and DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth located at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en-us.
    3) Saved contents of C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 to a temp folder and then deleted contents of C:\Windows\System32\catroot2.
    4)Renamed C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old
    5) Restarted Windows 8.1.
    6) Verified that C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 and that C:Windows\SoftwareDistribution folders had been rebuilt.
    7) I then ran the Windows update troubleshooter from the Window 8.1 Action Center again and got the same response as listed above. The errors still exist and are not fixed.
    8) Finally, I downloaded Windows 8.1 Enterprise Evaluation and I did a completely new clean install of Windows 8.1 and without installing anything else (no updates, no software, no antivirus) the above errors appeared within minutes after connecting
to the internet.  I checked using the Windows update troubleshooter several times before connecting to the Internet and each time no problems were found, but shortly after I connected the above errors are shown to exists.
Any suggestions that will help fix this issue will be of great help.

Did anyone ever find an actual fix for this problem?  I have a very similar problem.  I have gone through the same steps for fixing my issues with getting a message of problems found every time I run the Windows Update troubleshooter.  It
continually finds what it says are Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x800700D and says they are fixed, along with another message saying Windows Update components must be repaired and it says they are fixed as well.  However, each time
I run the troubleshooter it finds the same issues.  I have no problems running Windows Update under Windows 8.1 and them all installing without issue, yet I can't download or update ANY apps within the MS store and like the problem above, when it looks
for my apps it says it's having problems finding them and to try later.  If I try to download even a free app, I get an error message that something happened and your purchase can't be completed. Error code: 0x80096004.
I have dug through everything I can find on this error message and tried changing my sign in on my laptop to a local account, created a new MS account to access the store and continue to get the same error message.  I have tried it with my Kaspersky
Internet Security 2015 turned completely off.  I've also ran SFC scannow and there are no errors and have ran DISM which found a problem but says it was fixed.  After running it again, there were no errors.  I have no other problems with anything
else (that I know of on my machine).  It is an Asus Q400A and came with Windows 8.0.  I ran all the updates and then upgraded to 8.1 through the MS store without issue.  I have installed all updates since upgrading to 8.1 and have absolutely
no problem running ANY updates, but can't seem to access the store no matter what I try.
If anyone has found a solution to this I'd appreciate your input.  Hard to believe MS would put out a product that has such a basic problem that has affected so many users and can't seem to come up with some resolution that doesn't require registry
editing, running commands from elevated command prompts, and a CS degree to resolve--there are soooo many issues online regarding this kind of error and others related to running SFC and DISM...most ending up in their ultimate default answer....renew or reinstall
Windows and all the updates....which still doesn't resolve the problem for many!  I've always been a PC guy, but I'm starting to like the MacBook Pro I picked for work related reasons with great hesitation.  I've wasted more time chasing this issue
down than I all the time I've spent actually using the Mac without even a hitch!
Thx in advance for any feedback....please no MAC blasting....at this point, it would be not well received!!

  • Creative Cloud desktop failed to update.(Error code: 1)

Hello, I'm running a MacBook Pro Retina with Yosemite 10.10.2.  I tried to update Creative Cloud Desktop manager and then tried to cancel it (it was killing my bandwidth while I was trying to work).  It disappeared from the bar at the top of the OSx screen.
I couldn't get it back.  I restarted my machine.  When I clicked on Creative Cloud this time, I was prompted to update, but almost immediately got an error.  There are other mentions of Error Code 1 on the forum, but they appear to be first time installations, not updates.  Suggestions welcome!  Thanks
Creative Cloud desktop failed to update.(Error code: 1)
    Update:
Still no success.  I tried the instructions here: Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application  which says to uninstall Creative Cloud.  I got an error: "Unable to uninstall Creative Cloud Desktop.  Quit Creative Cloud desktop and try again."  But CC desktop is not running.  I had a look in activity monitor and didn't see anything.

Okay - I think I resolved this by closing some stalled processes in Activity Monitor, then restarting Creative Cloud desktop, then updating in the normal way.

  • Failed software update returns error code 0x87D00668

We are using Secunia CSI to create and publish 3rd party software update packages to SCCM 2012.  I have one client computer running Windows 7 Pro x64 that is having a problem with one update.  When the user tries to install the Adobe Reader update
in Software Center it fails and returns the following error.
The software change returned error code 0x87D00668(-2016410008).
I haven't been able to find any information on this error code.  I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this error and might have any information on it??

The item it's referring to in that error would seem to be the task that can't be found. No?
The issue that needs to be addressed is that the updates aren't needed - they are installed on the server. I've installed the updates manually, rebooted, Software Center should not even be reporting that the updates need to be installed.  And back to
the second post above, "Software update still detected as actionable after being applied" seems to be saying that it DOES see that the patch is installed.  The question is then, why is it still "actionable"?
    Thanks
Why do you think that they are not needed? Have you force CM to scan again for SU? Are they show as being applied in CM12? What does the Windowsupdate.log say about that SU?
I don't think it is a task that can't be found based on that single line from the log file.

    Old Blog site | Twitter:
    @GarthMJ
I don't think the updates are needed because they are installed on the server. You will see in my above posts my reasoning for concluding that the updates are installed: "I have two security updates that are indeed installed (according to Windows Update,
the Windows Update log, and Add/remove programs), yet Software Center shows "failed" and with that exact same error of "Software update still detected as actionable after being applied".
Yes, I've forced multiple rescans (before and after reinstalling the client) over the course of a few days. Software Center still shows failed.
The Windows update log shows that it installed successfully. Here's one of lines in the log for one of the updates (in fact as far as the log goes back, 7-3, it's been saying this):
WindowsUpdate    Success    Content Install    Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows
    XP x86 (KB2729450)
I think, again, we're back to the fact that is is installed but the issue is: "Software update still detected as actionable after being applied" seems to be saying that it DOES see that the patch is installed.  The question is why is it still
"actionable"?  The client sees that it's installed but ... why is it saying it's still "actionable"?
I realize that this issue might be a little tougher to track down since I couldn't find ANY other reference to it online.
Lastly, Config Manager shows "failed to install update" which is exactly what Software Center reports.
Thanks again, am happy to upload/copy/paste any logs you think would be helpful.

  • Failed to update headers error, Outlook 2010

I'm repeatedly getting the error "Failed to update headers" on one of my accounts.  It's a
[email protected] account if that makes any difference.  It just started recently after having been working correctly for several years.  I've tried everything I can find to correct this problem.  I've run the scanpst
multiple times, deleted and recreated the account multiple times, disabled my AV, start Outlook in safe mode and several other things in this problem keeps recurring?
Does anyone have any other ideas what to try?

    Hi,
which way you set up AOL mail, pop or imap?
Generally, this kind of issue can be resolved after repairing PST via scanpst tool. But it seems not to work for you. Based on my research, some users reported he fixed it after removing RSS setting, you may try it.
In addition, please also try these:
    1. Log mailbox through web browser, find any suspicious large email, delete it.
    2. Log mailbox through web browser, find any wayward meeting notices, delete it.
Feel free to post back. Thanks.

  • LG Spectrum failed to update location error

I have an LG Spectrum, which I love the phone.  However, it is constantly popping up a message saying "Failed to update My Location - no signal."  It drives me crazy and also drains my battery since it is constantly searching for a location.  I've tried updating the phones OS and nothing seems to make it better.  Is there some kind of fix I can put in or download?  Or is there some issue with the phone that I'm not aware of?

On page 176 of your usermanual ( https://scache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/lg-spectrum/LG-Spectrum-2-um.pdf ), it tells you how to turn OFF location services in your Settings menu.
    Hope this helps.

  • Updating database - errors

    Hi
I've writing a content management system and when a user
    submits a new page
i've got a function which strips out the HTML so as to
    produce a field in
the database of just text which can be used for searching. So
    far so good.
I capture the input from the form as a session, then run it
    through some
    functions ie
    session("content") = StripHTML(session("content"))
I then want to update the database so have code of:
    rsContent("fldPageContentStripped") = session("content")
    rsContent("fldLastUpdated") = time()
    rsContent("fldLastUpdatedDate") = date()
    rsContent.Update
The page then produces an error based on the first line of
    that group
    saying:
    Error Type:
    Microsoft Cursor Engine (0x80040E21)
Multiple-step operation generated errors. Check each status
    value.
Do i need to convert that session to something that the
    database can input?
eg with numbers you can do INT(session("content")) etc.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Here is a question that has arisen on my current project. What are some strategies for avoiding concurrency errors in cases where a given user could attempt to modify the same row in the database with simultaneous requests (say, that he updates one column with information with an AJAX call, then immediately submits a form that updates the same row)? In which layer(s) would this best be handled? Is the best alternative to make the AJAX updates synchronous, rather than asynchronous? The database and database driver should handle that situation.

  • Anyone else gets a 'Failed to update favourites' error in Trailers App?

So, since updating my iPad 2 to iOS 6 a lot of things has gone wrong and pretty much useless, including Trailers App which now won't let me add movies to my Favourites list. Everytime I try an error appears saying: failed to upload favorutes. I tried reinstalling - didn't work. Any sugestions?
