Failure to read analog inputs

I have a USB6008 with amplified thermocouple signals coming in to the first 4 analog input ports. I have installed DAQmx3.1 on my mac and am trying to use the nidatalogger to read any values from them. Unfortunately I can not seem to read any of the analog ports. In nidatalogger i am given the choice of physical ports 1-7 all of which do not react to analog inputs on the board. They do however react when I apply voltages to some of the digital input pins, most noticable port 30. I am completely confused and since things like MAX dont exsist for the mac, I have no clue how to go about figuring out what is wrong. Help!

Thanks for posting on the NI Forums!  I understand you are having trouble reading data from your analog inputs on the USB-6008.  I am confused as to what terminals you are using.  You mentioned that you are using the first 4 analog input ports.
-  Does this mean you are connecting wires into terminals 2, 5, 8 and 11?
-  How many thermocouples are you using?
-  Is your input configuration single ended or differential?
Please refer to page 13 of the NI USB 6008 User Guide and Specifications, and clarify which terminals you are physically wiring to.  You had also mentioned port 30, however if you look on page 14 you can see that terminal 30 corresponds to the +2.5 V pin.

  • Reading analog input

    Good day all,
    I'm using NI-7350, LAbview 8.5 and trying to measure voltage from a power source.
    Is there any VIs that read analog inputs. I can't seem to open the examples.
    Thanks

    Have you looked at the DAQmx? Create a virtual channel, start the task and read the value.

  • Getting an error 33162 when trying to read analog input on FP

    I am getting a error when trying to do a simple analog input read using Field Point. I have a FP-2000 network module and am trying to read channel 0 at FP-TB-10 @3 which has an AI-C420 analog input module in place. There is no definition for the error and I can read the signal from Field Point Explorer just fine.
    I have downloaded the example continuous read vi from the web site and it does not work either. It seems that this should not be complicated but this is not the 1st problem I have had. I will take any suggestions. Thank you.

    Mike,
    Error code 33162, "Can not connect to item on module," generally is the result of attempting to connect to an item that is not available at the first connection attempt. This is frequently the result of an ethernet network module being offline when you attempt to connect to it. Since you are able to connect from FieldPoint Explorer, I suspect something else is going on. The likeliest possibilities that I can think of are:
    1) You have more than one ethernet Comm Resource in your IAK file and you have provided the name for the wrong resource (e.g. you may have had a different IP address and created a new Comm Resourcefor the new IP address, but left the old one in place and are using the wrong one).
    2) Similar to #1 above, you changed the IP address in
    the Comm Resource but did not save the change so there is no module at the IP address it is attempting to communicate with.
    3) There is a misconfiguration in the IAK file and the FP-TB-10 shows a listing for a digital module at address 0 rather than an analog module.
    4) The module is misaddressed. I have occasionally seen instances where the protective end cover was not installed on the last terminal base and a piece of metal shorted some of the pins causing the addressing to be incorrect. Since this method of failure would also show up in FieldPoint Explorer, I do not think it is likely the root cause of your problem.
    5) You have booted the FP-20xx in Safe Mode (although FieldPoint Explorer will not work in this case so I do not think it is likely).
    Note: If you had successfully connected and then lost the connection, the error code is 33163, "The connection to the module has been broken."

  • I can not read Analog input (a square wave)

    I am programming with Labview 7.1 on FPGA. The hardware is PCI7831. With CB-68LP connector, I connect analog input (a square wave generator) to AI0+(68) and AIGND0(67). I try to read it with waveform chart. But I can't get a square wave on the screen. I did check the square wave generator's output. It is correct. The connector CB-68LP connected with PCI7831 on analog port.
    I am runing the program on emulation, not on real FPGA.
    Thanks

    Signal generator I used is 3010 function generator for BK precision. It is an old instrument. I probed output signal from this generator on oscilloscope with signal generator output conected to oscilloscope probe (+) and signal generator ground to probe (groud). It is a square wave.
    I suspect the teminal I used for I/O port to PCI7831. Because my coworkers installed the hardware for me, he is absent recently. The terminal is CB-68LP  from NI with numbers ( 1 to 68) to specify each connector on it. And I got a SCB-68 Quick Reference Label sheet on my desk to specify numbers correspanding I/O port (for example, 68 -- AI0+). I suspect if this SCB-68 Quick Reference Label sheet matches the terminal CB-68LP?
    I will talk to my coworkers next week.

  • Program termination when cRIO reads analog input.

    Hello.
    I'm using cRIO 9012 and 9205 AI module.
    In my project, the host reads 6 channel AI with 20kHz per channel with 3 FIFO DMA.
    If the measurement was done within about half sec., there's no problem.
    But when Im trying to do more longer measurement, the program is terminated.
    I think it is problem related to the size of variable( of array for measurement). But I cannot sure.
    Following diagram is a subVI of acquisition what I'm using now.
    Could you gimme any comment for me?

    Hey,
    What do you mean by "the programm is terminated"? does the host VI stuck?
    You can check the Elements Remaining of the FIFOs and also the Iteration Terminal of the Host While Loop.
    Also use the RT-System Manager to see whats going on with the cRIOs CPU Load and Memory.

  • Can I read more than 2 analog inputs from myDAQ?

    Hello,
    I am trying to read 3 voltage values. However, the myDAQ only has 2 analog inputs.
    There are multi-meter ports in the myDAQ as well. Could I read the 3rd value via this port?
    How would I read these values via the DAQ assit on labVIEW?
    Thanks in advance.
    Yzhi

    Hello Yzhi,
    You can acquire from the DMM and the analog inputs using two parallel tasks. The simplest way is to configure one DAQ Assistant for the AI channels, and another DAQ Assistant for the DMM channel. Be aware that the DMM is a software-timed single-point measurement (no hardware waveform acquisition), so you can't tightly synchronize the DMM with the Analog Inputs.
    Here is a screenshot demonstrating how to acquire from all three channels. You could also run the DMM in a separate loop so it doesn't slow down AI.
    Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions.

  • How to read data from analog input and export it to a file using Components Works

    I've made a simple application (Delphi 5 using the activeX) that read data from analog input channel 0. After I read the data, I want to export it to a file using the Components Works on a 6035E NIDAQ. (I'm not using labview and don't want to use it)
    How can I do that???
    Regards,
    Francis

    Here's a sample code to do this...
    P.S.: If you read only one channel this code won't work.
    function MyFunction: Integer;
    var
    Low, High, i, j, ChannelCount, RowCount: Integer;
    Po: P;
    begin
    //you are reading multiple channel
    ChannelCount := VarArrayHighBound(Buffer, 1);
    RowCount := VarArrayHighBound(Buffer, 2);
    for i := 0 to ChannelCount do begin
    for j := 0 to RowCount do begin
    WriteToDisk(Buffer[i, j]));
    end;
    end;
    end;

  • Displaying multiple analog input channels using DAQmx READ commands.

    I am using a NI USB-6009 module in a hydraulic load test stand.  I want to read multiple analog voltage inputs and display them on my front panel.  Using DAQmx commands or DAQ assistant, LabVIEW will only let you have one READ command for the analog inputs.  Can someone point me to an example or give me some ideas on being able to display at least 3 analog inputs?  Thanks.

    With the DAQ Assistant, when you get a list of 'Supported Physical Channels', look at the bottom of the window. It says "<Ctrl> or <Shift> click to select multiple channels. When you use the DAQmx Create Channel and have a physcial channel control/constant, click the little arrow on the right side of the control/constant, select browse and use the same <Ctrl> or <Shift> click technique. If you want to enter the channels manually, the format is Dev1/ai0:2 for consecutive or Dev1/ai0,Dev1ai3 non-consecutive channels.

  • How to read 2 analog inputs with VISA

    Hello everyone! I want to read two analog inputs using VISA serial communication from the arduino.  I'm currently able to read one of the input but how do I read two analog inputs on labview?

    Hi lamela,
    again I have to ask: HOW does the string look like? Is it so hard to provide an exact example of your received string???
    I think the string is showing one value from the two inputs
    Are you sure or are you guessing? How can we tell what you might "think" when you aren't able to provide examples?
    You wrote you send values from the Arduino using the command "println(value1, value2)", but now you "think" you only receive ""value1" in LabVIEW?
    Get your data communications clear! (And learn to provide meaningful examples!)
    Edit after your edit:
    my code to serial print two inputs: Serial.println(Voltage, Current);
    Even if I print separately: Serial.println(Voltage);
                                                 Serial.println(Current);
    The first command is completely different then the second part! In the first you should receive two values in one line, in the 2nd one you receive one value per line: You need to adapt your string parsing to these strings!
    Again: send both values in one line. Use the LF as termchar. Separate the values by some separator char like comma. Check the received string for validity. Use some error checking in your VI.

  • How do i expand my labview program to read 8 analog inputs?

    I am an electronic tech learning labview, The program I developed drives a solenoid high for three seconds, takes an analog reading, and then goes low and takes another reading.
    Program seems to work well. I would like to expand it to drive 4 solenoids and read 4 analog channels. Any sugggestions on how to create multiple instances and info on other design implementations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I have attached vi.

    You can define multiple channels in your DaqMX controls.  In your write and read statements, you change them from 1 channel to N channels.  You will need to send in an array on the Write Booleans, and the output of the Read Analog will also be an array.

  • I am getting a -50101 error when trying to get analog input from a compact rio

    I am just doing the initial setup of my compactRIO system and have been able to successfully add the cRio in Max and then into a new project.  I created a very simple VI with analog input that I am trying to read into an indicator, following one of teh tutorials.  The module I am reading the input from is a cRio-9201.  The input is voltage.  I have already added the module to teh project under the FPGA, which is under the RIO in the project tree.  Any ideas what I may be missing would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    The 9201 C Series module needs to be created under the FPGA Target
    (cRIO-910x) in the LabVIEW Project. You can either discover the module
    or create it by type. In case you haven't created the FPGA Target
    (cRIO-910x) under the cRIO Controller (cRIO-900x), you must do that
    first. You also have the option of discovering the cRIO-910x or to
    create it by type. I suggest you do it through discovery, so you don't
    need to manually configure the addresses.
    As how to create the items, that's done through right-click on the
    cRIO-900x and select New>>Targets and Devices.... It will pop up
    a dialog in which you expand FPGA Target and it will discover the FPGA
    Target. Similar steps are followed to create the 9201 module.
    If you don't see the FPGA Target and C Series module options, then you
    need to make sure NI-RIO 2.0 is installed in you computer.

  • How do I acquire multiple signals in the NI cDAQ 9172 using 2 analog input modules?

    Hi everyone,
    Is anyone familiar with using the NI cDAQ 9172?  This is my first time using it and I am not sure what exactly I am doing wrong... Alone with a NI 9233 analog input module, it works great.  I can grab my 4 signals from each channel and go.  However, when I add another analog input module to the mix, it gets an error.  It looks like it is reading only one and not the other.  It bombs at one of the DAQ start task and read task.
    Basically, the block diagram is just a double of the one 9233 working alone.  Is there something needed for input to make the 9172 working?  Any ideas?
    Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks!!

    Hi Jud,
    Both threads are correct.  The cDAQ-9172 has a single analog input timing engine, so both of your analog input modules will need to be in a single task.  The other VI you referenced shows one analog input task (with channels added from two modules) as well as an analog output task.  Analog output has a separate timing engine from analog input, so both of those can run in parallel independent tasks.
    The beginning of this thread is a good example; a single DAQmx Create Task followed by a DAQmx Create Virtual Channel for channels from each module.  Also, Getting Started with NI-DAQmx will give you the fundamentals for data acquisition, though I don't know how many of their examples use CompactDAQ.

  • Synchronizing two counter frequency inputs with multiple analog inputs

    Hello all,
    I'm fairly new to LabVIEW and I'm trying to collect data from multiple sources with synchronized timing on the acquisition but I'm having trouble figuring it out. My problem is that I've got two counter frequency inputs, one optical tachometer reading one pulse per revolution, and a max machinery flow meter with a k factor of 12000. I can't seem to figure out how to sync the timing with my multiple analog inputs. I've been attempting to get the tachometer  to sync with the analog inputs first by following the example linked here. (https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-10785) So far each time I run it I either get a timeout error on the DAQmx read or a "Multiple sample clock pulses were detected" error (see attached image).  It seems if I slow the sampling rate way down to say 10 hz and ensure that the tachometer signal is over 800-1000 RPM (13-17 Hz) before starting the VI then the program will run without errors until the RPM drops below that threshold then the "Multiple sample clock pulses" error occurs.  The code is attached below.
    Does anyone know of a more effective way of syncing counter frequency inputs with analog inputs?  I'd like to have a VI that can show 0 RPM (and eventually 0 flow as well, but I think I need to figure out the timing of one counter before I add another as it seems I can't have two counters in the same task). Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Maybe third times the charm?
    So I've finally got a good handle on why the VI is having problems at low RPM though I'm somewhat embarassed how long it took me to do that
    Because I have the counter time synced to my Analog input task if it doesn't see at least two pulses between the two clock pulses set by the analog input task I get the -201314 "Multiple sample clock pulses" error. This seems fine at first as it just sets a minimum RPM that I can measure and it's well below the area I'm interested in so no problems there.  I tried a simple error handler that would clear the error when it happend assuming the loop would keep iterating until the RPM went above that minimum at which point I would get a signal again. This is not the case, the read function just continues to spit out the -201314 error even after the RPM is back in the readable range. So then I tried adding two case structures so that when the error occured it would stop the task, clear the error, and then start the task again on the next loop iteration (Code Attached). This also doesn't work as the error shows up again on the stop task and then AGAIN on the start task on the next loop iteration. It seems this error is not actually being cleared and once it happens it stays with the task regardless of what the error cluster is carrying.
    Anyone have any ideas?  The only solution I can think of is to just clear all tasks and recreate them each loop iteration until the RPM is readable again but that strikes me as a horribly clunky solution.

    This is my code in C++, you can optimize it if it looks too messy. This code reads signal from analog input and outputs it through analog output.
    To make this code work additional  include directories and library directories must be added from NI.
