Fake BBM messages sent

So I have had many of my contacts on BBM say that I sent them messages with sound clips, random emoticons, and contact requests when I have not.  I does not show up in my message log but it does show up in their message log.  This is only happening with BBM contacts.  How are these being sent under my BBM pin? is it a virus? Thank you

It shouldn't be a virus as there are not yet any known viruses for BlackBerry.
That said, is there any chance that anyone has been playing with your phone?  Or did you install any applications just before this all started happening?
If you have any applications that you don't trust, delete them from your phone.  In addition, I would strongly suggest putting a password on your phone if you do not already have one.
There are more extreme steps that we can take to attempt to resolve the problem, but let's start by looking at these things.

  • Last Button Typed Re-Appears After SMS or BBM Message Sent

After upgrading to 5.0, this weird thing happens whenever I send a text or bbm.  If I send a message that says, for example, "I'll see you soon."  After I hit the "send" button, the letter "m" will appear in the field where you type.  Obviously to get a period in my message I typed alt + m, but after I send, it automatically re-enters the last character I typed.  I didn't type anything after hitting the send button, but the last key I typed in my message will appear on its own.  So I'll have a draft message of just the letter "m".  Anybody else having this problem?  If my sentence ends in an exclamation point, the letter "b" automatically appears on its own.

Assuming you will get a single entire message on every read is pretty optimistic. You need to always read into the same ByteBuffer and compact it after you have extracted what you want, and you need a way to identify your own message boundaries.

  • Fake text message hack going around?

A few minutes ago I received, what appears to be, a fake text message.
My phone vibrated, I didn't grab for it right away. It vibrated again so I picked up and hit the Home button to turn the screen on. There was a popup that looked mostly like a normal text message.
I started reading it and it started with something like "Yesterday you sent me 3 text messages regarding our relationship...". I could see that the message was so long that it was running off the screen; so I slid to unlock so I could read the whole thing.
However, the message is not in the text messaging app anywhere. I don't believe it was an actual text message as it does not exist in the text messaging app. Also, the message looked slightly weird because I did not notice a name or number displayed and the entire message text was bold. Typically, the name is bold and the message text is normal.
My phone is not jailbroken and the only new applications I've downloaded recently are Google Places and Crock-Pot (recipe application).
Is there any word on an app or hack able to fake text messages going around? Is that even possible?

Well, I should probably change the title to "malicious," which is what I would file a notification from an app meant to look like a text message (or whatever this is) under.
I don't think it's of any harm to me; and I don't think the message is legit (meaning it's not from any friends, family or anyone else I know). I am curious, however, as to what caused it so I can be rid of the annoyance

  • BBM Messges sent stuck on D but aren't delivered.

    Hi
I'm having an issue where my BBM messages to one contact are being displayed with a ticked D on my device. However my contact is not receiving any of the messages. The contact can however still message me fine and they all come through without a problem. There is sometimes a slight delay on the messages coming through to me but not very often.
I've tried a hard reset by pulling the battery out of my phone while it is switched on. Infact I have tried this several times and it has not produced any results. Any messages i send to my contact always have a ticked D next to them when they have been sent.
    I have a blackberry Bold 9700.
How do I resolve this issue?

First off, test messaging with that other contact through sending a PIN message (from your main Messages folder > Compose PIN). Ask the other party to read and reply. You should also see the D for delivered.
If this PIN messaging works... the BBM should work. But, also make sure the other party does not have some Firewall block for your PIN or any PIN not listed in their address book (Options > Security > Firewall).

  • BBM message delivery expiry

Hi, I am on BIS and have sent a BBM message to a contact who is out of network coverage. Therefore the message shows a tick next to it but does not show a D or a R. For how long does the message pend in RIM BIS queues so that it can be delivered when the phone comes into a coverage area? Thanks.

it's a bug in the new version of BBM, happend to me too.

  • BBM message

    Hello Everyone,
I'm new here.  I just received a BBM message and don't know if it is real or fake .
It states it is from  Sam Richards: Head of blackberry services.   Has anyone else received this message:
SORRY for the BC but it really happened to a friend of mine.  His bbm got erased and he received this, so I'm sending it to you as a fair warning.
If u Do not Broadcast This Message, Your Blackberry messenger, In the space  of 24 hours will automatically shut off.  This is not fake, this is the real thing.  If you do not wish to pass this on bye bye blackberry Messenger.
    Many thanks,
Sam Richards: Head of blackberry services.
I  don't know what to do.  Should I not broadcast this.
    Thank you
    Meli

Just to clarify things a bit, if you ever get an email or BBM from RIM asking you to pass it on, it's fake.  RIM does not ask users to pass on messages for them; they have their own communications channels with everyone who owns a BlackBerry and they're quite capable of getting the message out themselves.
We now return you to your regularly sheduled thread.

  • Message Sent?

I've sent a message to a friend's phone overseas as an SMS using the Skype app on my iPhone.  I had plenty of funds on my account for this to work.  An orange triangle with an exclamation point showed up next to it after it was sent.
I've logged into my Skype desktop, and the message is listed right there in the conversation as normal....as if it was sent fine. The iPhone app still shows the orange triangle, even after closing the app and reloading. Was my message sent via SMS or not?

This happened to me before.  Give AT&T a call and they can reset it.

  • Cant send but CAN receive bbm messages.

I recently purchased the blackberry curve 9320 around 3 days ago, everything was working perfectly this morning until i woke up and tried replying to a bbm message. When i sent the message, it just came up with the tick but no D or R. I  am still able to receive messages but the person I send the message too doesn't.
Im seeing people talk about the host routing table in which i've already re registed and also resent my service books. Am i supposed to delete any service books before doing so?
I've also performed battery pulls numerous times but with no luck.
    any help appreciated, thanks

  • BBM messages not delivering

I have a Z10, All day long my BBM messages have been sent from my phone, but they aren't delivering. They just stay as a checkmark for ever. I have sent to many different people, and none of them receive my messages. Their messages, however, get deliverd to my phone, but on their end it doesn't show that I read them. My phone is 8 days old, and I have contacted Bell about it, and they say that everything on their end is fine. I have done battery pulls, I had an update available for BBM, so I installed that, and still nothing works.
    Any suggestions?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (step 1 should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive
    2)  Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should re-contact your mobile service provider for formal support...but this time don't let them fob you off. You pay them for your services, and they are not delivering them to you. If they cannot resolve the issue, then need to escalate your case up to BB for enhanced formal support.
    Good luck!

  • My family of four (2 iPhones, 2 iPods) all share the same iTunes account.  Many text messages sent to or from mine or my husband's phones are also received on my daughter's iPod, and vice versa. How do I fix this?

How can I keep text messages sent from my or husband's phone from being received on daughter's iPod, and vice versa? We have five devices on one iTunes account - 2 iPhones, 2 iPods and an iPad.

    Hello Hrd1977,
This is typically caused by both devices sharing an Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.  I would recommend signing out of iMessage on your daughter's device.  Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out. Then sign in with the desired Apple ID.

  • How can I make a rule to mark all messages sent to Mail Trash as Read?

How can I make a rule to mark all messages sent to Mail Trash as Read?
When I look at some emails on my phone, I can see from the title that I don't need to read the email so I delete it without opening it. When I go to my Macbook Pro and open mail, the number of unread messages in my Trash shows next to the name. It drives me nuts. Can I just set a rule to mark all messages sent to trash as read? If that isn't possible, I'd take just making the number not show beside the Trash folder.

Just in the case that I actually do need to go back to them for some reason. I have some OCD tendencies which is also why the number beside the folder drives me nuts.

  • HT5538 All text messages sent to my wife are also coming to my phone. How can we stop this?

My wife's iPhone 4 and my iPhone 4S are both using iOS 6. We also sync to an iMac and a Macbook Pro.  My wife updated her phone last night.  Then today I received a message on the iMac to provide my e-mail password for iMessage and FaceTime. Since then, any text messages sent to my wife are automatically sent to my iPhone. Even messages I send to her are sent back to me as if I had written them to myself.  Messages she gets from other people are sent to me as well. How do we fix this so that messages sent to her go only to her?  Also we use a single Apple ID for all our devices--iPhones and Macs, but we have done that for a couple of years, and this problem has not arisen before.

I can confirm it is using the single ID that is causing this issue.
You will need to use multiple ID's however, these can share the same payment ID.
    Hope this helps!

My wife and I each have an iPhone 4S. Ever since the upgrade to ios6, text messages sent from my iPhone also appear on hers? All response to those text also show up on both devices. Likewise, text sent by her appear to others as having been sent from my iPhone. I have tried turning group messages off but nothing works. How can I correct this on both phones? Appreciate any help.

You need a separate email address but you've already ruled out that solution.

Sure. Go to the conversation that contains the message(s) you wish to forward. Tap the Edit button in the upper right corner. Select the message(s) you wish to forward using the radio buttons. Tap "Forward" at the bottom right of the screen.
