Fans kick in when HDMI port is used

When I connect a TV to HDMI port, then fans start to kick in seriosly without noticeable CPU load increase. I've also tried to use Thunderbolt-to-HDMI adapter instead of using HDMI port directly and got same effect.
I have my external monitor connected using Thunderbolt-DVI adapter and everything is fine and MacBook is super quiet.
Fans don't directly kick in based on CPU load, but rather on MacBook casing temperature. I guess something in HDMI singnal generating code is heating up something inside MacBook and fans kick in to compensate for that.
Not sure if it's normal or not.

They are probably compensating for the increased load on the GPU.
I wonder if it's a standard behavior, because I haven't seen this described anywhere in docs. I guess if I connect 3 monitors as once I will get even higher fan noise, which is dissapointing.

And this magic sleep/reset/shutdown combination will do SMC reset for sure? Doing that SMC reset won't erase anything on my mac or reset any settings I've set in "System Settings?

The only supported method is HDMI, there is no guarantee with others. If it does work you may have issues with protected content (ie iTunes, Netflix).

So I am back again with the solution that helped so I hope it will help other users. I did an update on BIOS, Graphic Card and HD Audio. The only thing that really helped was the driver / software update I did on Sound by updating drivers and s/w having downloaded them directly from the Realtek Site. SO I hope this hepls anybody else in the same situation.

I did some more research and I think what I am looking for is called an "HDMI Switch." Not sure exactly what it is, but it seems like its more than a traditional 'splitter.' It was recommended in other threads for older HDTVs with only one HDMI port, which gets used by the TVs receiver.
Have you heard of this?

How to connect apple tv when the hdmi port on my tv is connected to the hdmi modem

I just got at&t uverse tv service. The modem is connected to the hdmi port on my tv. I bought a 4 in 1 out hdmi connector box, but don't know if this will work. I've tried plugging the apple tv into one of the in ports, but I can't get it to work. I've tried plugging both the modem and the tv into the out box and other components into the in ports, but it hasn't worked.
Has anyone ever run into this problem where the tv hdmi port is used and apple tv requires an hdmi port?

I use this device as my 4 splitter and i get connection all devices working then after a few hours i get an error. can i get some direction on how to place each device on this one splitter? the Uverse box and TV only has one HDMI plugs, I put the TV HDMI from TV input to splitter Output, then I put Uverse cable in port 1 on the splitter, then appletv in port3.

i run it for a minut or 2 and it gets to about 90c and still the fans dont kick in... can i run it for longer without damaging the machine...

this time my fans got loud, temp went to 91C before stabilizing at 89C at which point the fans got soft again... any ideas? the fans work- both of them... but the temp is still high.. what do I do?

Fan kicks quite loudly every minute on Satellite L30

I'm using a Satellite L30 laptop. One thing I am finding annoying is that the fan kicks in quite loudly every minute or so, then quietens down for a while. Using a temperature monitor it looks like the fan kicks in when the temperature rises above about 50, then slows down as it falls. When the temperature is below 45 the fan stops altogether which causes the temperature to quickly rise back above 50.
I want to change the power management settings so that the fan stays on quitely at lower temperatures. I have a desktop computer where it is possible to change the fan settings in the BIOS, but I can't find anything like this on the laptop. Can anyone suggest where I should look - are there any open source or shareware tools which will do this?

The trick:
1. You need in Power Saver the performance profile, that uses performance fan control.
2. You need to make another profile (for example called Silence). In this profile you need the optimized battery fan control, the other options doesnt matter.
3. Then, you must activate the performance profile, and wait, until the fan speed raises (begins to cool down the CPU). Meanwhile the fan speed is high, you must speedily switch to the silence profile (with the Fn+F2 combination you can choose, which you want).
4. And voila, the fan rolling remains on medium (not noisy) speed so long as you turn off or hibernate the computer, and the temperature drops to 40-50 degrees.
This trick works only if you use Windows XP, because Power Saver doesn't work under Vista. (I have Satellite L30-134, BIOS number is 2.60.)

OSB Server fails startup port in use

I am trying to install Oracle Service Bus on Weblogic Application Server 11G (10.3.3.0). I first created the weblogic domain then later extended it to also include the OSB functionality. After extending the domain I changed the nodemanager.properties using the setNMProps.sh file then restarted the nodemanager.

I checked several forum threads for this exception and learned from them that the normal cause is the double usage of the Debug port 8453. I changed this port both in the setDomainEnv.sh file as well as in the nit-info/startscript.xml and the init-info/startscript-unsub.xml. Stopped all the weblogic components (nodemanager and AdminServer) then restarted everything again. This solution unfortunately does not work as the above exception keeps appearing even when different ports are used.
Has anyone seen the JDWP Transport dt_socket exception when they installed the osb functionality and knows how to solve this?

What is your point of view about what the cause could be of this exception? I used the supplied JVM that came with the Oracle Fusion Middleware Weblogic Application Server so my expectation is that the JDK version is not the cause of this exception. It looks to me to be something in the configuration?

Satellite C55-PSCG8E FAN running fast when pluged in

Hi There,
My laptop's FAN is running really fast and loudly when plugged in AC power source.
However the FAN runs quietly when the battery is used.
The laptop is new and so far only the antivirus application is running.
Is this a normal behavior or an issue ?
Normally a FAN run as fast when the CPU is hot and many applications are running.

The reason why the fan is running faster when AC adaptor is connected this very simple: the Windows system use different settings using the battery or mains power.
Using battery mode, the system is configured differently in order to save battery power and to increase notebook working time.
You can change the settings in control panel -> power options.
Here you will find different power plans
Click on the current power plant and check the Change Advanced power settings.
Here you would find the settings for cooling method (sometimes its placed within the Toshiba power saver or Processor power management).
There you can change System cooling policy: you will choose either passive or active

Using just the TV screen when using HDMI port?

I have the Macbook Pro with retina display and I was wondering how I could use just the TV screen when using HDMI port. I don't want mirroring displays, just one on the TV.

With the TV connected and the MBP plugged into the mains (i.e. not running on battery power) close the lid. The MBP will go to sleep, wake it up with an external keyboard or mouse - which must be connected in advance, or paired in advance if a bluetooth keyboard/mouse.

I have searched many forums and posts here and there, but no where got the perfect solution, also most of the places people are misxing the problems with other problems.
My Problem: I am not able to see even Sovy TV in my MBP display page, and hence not able to connect to Sony Bravia to my MBP.
What I am using: Macbok pro 13 June 2011, Lion 10.7.2, Sony Bravia 40EX550, DVI Mini Adaptor for Mac (at one side DVI male connector and other side female HDMI connector) and one HDMI cable (the cable which comes with my DTH provider both ends are for Male HDMI pin)
I do not think i would require anything more in this.
Now after connecting with Adaptor to my MBP i connected the other end to HDMI cable which was already connected to HD TV HDMI port (there are 4 ports and i tried all the ports)
When i opened the System Pref -> Displays I got below screen
Here in above screen I clicked on Detect Displays but nothing happens, actually it should detect the Sony Tv and there on I sohuld do some settings.

Right now your MBP is not recognizing the TV. You should get a display in SYSTEM PREFERENCES>DISPLAYS similar to this. Note the 'Arrangement option in the menu bar. Your connections are bad or you have a faulty cable and/or adapter.
I assume you are using a MINI DISPLAY PORT/HDMI adapter, not a DVI adapter.

I would guess that the HDMI port on your mac is for output only - no input, and that's what your'e attempting to do when you attach the mac to your xbox. I looked in Mactracker and it lists the HDMI port as video output for both the 13" Retina MacBook Pro and the 15" Retina MacBook Pro (your post didn't say which one you have), so looks like that is the issue..
