Alternative Apple TV setup when HDTVs only HDMI port is being used?

I have an older model JVC HDTV that only has one HDMI port (being used). Is there an alternative way to connect my Apple TV Black?

Hi Rudegar,
I did some more research and I think what I am looking for is called an "HDMI Switch."  Not sure exactly what it is, but it seems like its more than a traditional 'splitter.' It was recommended in other threads for older HDTVs with only one HDMI port, which gets used by the TVs receiver.
Have you heard of this?

When plugging Apple TV into my samsung tv hdmi port nothing comes up. Actually my Sat TV plays on that same HDMI inport

    Check these troubleshooting steps:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1551?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Specifically I wonder if the AppleTV may be trying to connect with an unsupported resolution giving a black screen.  Try cycling display resolutions using these remote commands in step 6:
If your TV screen appears fuzzy or black (you see no video)
Make sure the television you are using supports the Apple TV resolution requirements. Please see the Apple TV technical specifications.
When you connect power, check to make sure the LED turns on. If the LED is not on, then verify with a known good power outlet or connect something else to the outlet you're using for Apple TV and make sure it works (such as a lamp or clock).
Make sure you're using the correct video cables and that they are connected firmly to Apple TV and to your TV.
Connect the HDMI cable directly into the Apple TV and your television, remove any third party devices or adapters.
Make sure the input setting you've selected on your TV matches the input you have your video cables connected to. See the documentation that came with your TV for more information.
Change the Apple TV resolution by pressing and holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds. The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals. Pressing the Select button will immediately cycle to the next resolution.
If you are connected via HDMI, try unplugging and replugging your HDMI cable.
If HDMI isn't working on an Apple TV (1st generation), try component cables instead (and disconnect the HDMI cable temporarily). Read more about HDMI vs component video.

Using Airport Express for External speakers and Apple TV.  When I'm on MAC computer adn using internet sound from Internet does not go through external speakers.  Instead it comes out of Mac computer speaker.  Why?

As far as I know, the Airport Express only transmits sounds via Itunes. So every other sound (internet, but also incoming mail) will be coming out of your mac instead of your external speakers.

You can create an iTune and App Store account without credit card details
    1. Sign out of current Apple ID if you are sign-in to one (important)
    2. Go to App Store and select a free app
    3. Tap INSTALL APP
    4. Create New Apple ID
    5. Confirm Your Country
    6. Agree with Terms and Conditions
    7. Fill in your Apple ID and Password (you must create a new Apple ID; don't use your old Apple ID)
    8. Create and answer your secret question
    9. Select NONE for Payment Method
    10. Fill in Billing Address
    11. Submit application for new Apple ID
    12. Wait for verification email
    13. When email arrive, verify your account
    14. Start downloading your free apps

  • HT204400 I get no audio from this device.  All my HDMI ports are in use with the cable box, DVR and receiver .  My digital optical cable is also in use to the receiver.  Is there a solution?

I cannot get audio using this device all my HDMI ports are in use as well as my digital optical cable.  Any solutions?

How exactly is the ATV connected if all HDMI ports are in use?
If connected directly to the TV, then audio is being sent to the TV speakers, not the receiver.

Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan.

  • Can Apple TV be used on a HDTV without HDMI port? If yes, what is needed for setting up?

I have a Sony wega HDTV, and it does not have HDMI port, does anyone know if I can use Apple TV on it? If so, how is it set up?

Current AppleTVs require a TV with HDMI.
You may find some dubious adapters out there which purport to convert to other formats.
If your Tv has VGA in and an audio input you might want to look at:

  • Ever thought of making an Ad in which all Apple Products(or at least the greatest 1s) are being used by a person in his or her day in different situations ?...those products in 1 ad ?

Was just thinking a few days ago...Apple never made an ad in which all their products or at least some of their most renowned products are being used by 1 person in a day in different situations he faces...from using an iPod for jogging n then the guy just goes back home sits on his iMac then goes somewhere with his iPad then attending an important call from his iPhone n wanting to watch a movie from his Apple TV or doing something with Macbook Air or Macbook Pro....just a thought

You're only addressing other users here - you might want to try feedback:

I upgraded to a iphone 4s,when they transferred my info to my new phone itunes did not recognize my apple id because it is a old email adress that is not now being used.

IF - you changed your ID - go to Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap the ID and sign out, sign in the the correct account. Apps that you purchased with the old ID have to be updated with that ID and are always tied to that old ID.

My X220 laptop has a DisplayPort which I plug in a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter to connect to a TV.  Working fine here after I updated this morning.  The X220 is Intel SandyBridge (HD3000 I believe).

  • Multiple TC-2095s, but only 1 Reference junction being used

In my LabVIEW program, I create the DAQmx task programaticly just before starting data acquisition. I use SCXI 1102s with TC-2095s, with multiple sets in a given test stand. I add each used channel to the DAQmx task individually using the DAQmx Create Virtual Channel vi. I added a new 1102 to one of my systems, but a TC-2095 was not handy. I added the new channels to the scan list. When I ran the system, all channels, those in the old module/interface set as well as the new  incomplete set, showed  temperatures too high by an amount that would be expected by an open reference junction channel. When a TC-2095 was connected, the values changed to normal.
This seems to indicate that the system is using only the last junction reference for sensing the junction temperature. This is not optimal. While the TC-2095s are stacked in the rack, and should be close in temperature, there could be several degrees error due to temperature differentials between the boxes.
Is this due to the way I create the task? Is there a way around it.

    Hi David,
There a couple of things that are happening here that could cause the unexpected result. If you're new channels in the 1102 are added to the scan list, but are not actually connected (they are floating), you can expect to see incorrect voltages. Also, since you noticed a change back to an expected value when you added the 2095, there could have been an impedence matching problem.
Try removing the new channels from your scan list and adding the 1102 without the 2095 again to see if the voltages are correct. Please post back if you have any questions. Have a great day!

  • Unwanted signals going through RS-232 port when Analog I/O channels are being used. Why and how to solve the problem?

My application involves operating a pH meter via RS-232 protocol. Other hardware are operated using an E-series DAQ board whereby waveforms are software-generated and sent to the relevant hardware using an Analog Output channel. Data acquisition is performed utilising Analog Input channels of the DAQ card that have been configured in a Referenced Single-Ended mode. When the Analog I/O channels are active erroneous readings are observed on the pH meter if the RS-232 cable is connected between the pH meter and the control PC. No problem is observed if the RS-232 cable is disconnected. What could be the problem and any suggestions on how to solve this.

    Comments to your questions:
Built-in = Originally supplied on the PC's motherboard
    1)I use built-in RS-232 interface
    2)I use built-in Bus type
3)The RS-232 cable is shield connected
    4) I'm not sure on how to check if the RS-232's digital ground signal is connected. I simply connected the RS-232 cable from the pH meter to the serial port. The serial communication works fine, with no disturbance to the pH meter if i don't initiate data acquisition.
