FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

When asking a question on the Premiere Pro user-to-user forums, you can make it easier for folks to help you by proactively providing the answers to the following questions:
What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2)).
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.9.5"---not just "Mac".
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
Has this ever worked before?
What other software are you running?
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about your GPU, any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU) and the type of media drives you are using.
What kind of GPU do you have installed, including make, model number, and GPU driver?
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?
Do you still have the issue when choosing Project Settings > General > Renderer > Mercury Playback Engine (Software Only)?
Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both?
Screenshots and sample movies are often very useful in showing exactly what you're seeing, and can thus make getting an answer faster and easier.

Adding screenshots and FLAs to your discussions is highly useful and will help fetch an answer faster and easier.

I second that. I would also suggest the list of things the user should at least supply is supplemented with the client mode; HI (High Interactivity) or SI (Standard Interactivity).

  • HT5622 What information should I use when asked for "Label" when attempting to order an iphoto book?

When attempting to purchase an iphoto book, I am unable to.  It tells me that the Label name is already being used.  I've used my name, and don't know what else I am supposed to do.  I don't want to lose the work I did to create the book, but Apple won't allow me to get to Step 3 in my purchase attempt.

  • How to effectively ask a question on this forum

Ok, so this'll take a little explaining. I was kinda bored over my lunch break, so i decided I'd write a general reference for how to post well on this forum. I realize that many people aren't gonna read this the first time they post, but i thought it would be a good thing to reference when replying to people who post a poor question.
_10 Ways to Post a Good Question on this Forum_
_1) Write a descriptive subject line_
This is the first thing that people see, and it influences how they read a question. Subjects like "Java error" tell people nothing about your problem. Subjects like "How to implement a SAX parser for use in multiple classes" are infinitely more useful.
_2) Don't use phrases such as URGENT or HELP ME!!! or IT'S DUE IN AN HOUR!!!!_
The people on this forum don't have the same priorities as you, and therefore don't care if your problem is urgent. In fact, they find it rude to assert that your problem should be solved before somebody else's just because you procrastinated. They also don't pleas for help too fondly. Typically posters who write this sort of phrase in their post has given up and become helpless, making it very difficult to guide them to the answer. Also, keep the caps lock off. THERE IS NOTHING MORE ANNOYING THAN ALL-CAPS POSTS. IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE YELLING, and people will make you aware of how it annoys them.
_3) Dont post your homework assignments asking for "teh codez"_
You will get flamed like none other for this sort of question. You may get codes, but when you submit them to your instructor, you may get suspended or expelled (depending on your school's cheating policy). The people on this forum are more advanced than you in Java, and can make it painfully obvious to your instructor that you cheated.
    _4) Write in normal English_
Think of this forum as your supervisor or instructor, you want to sound professional and convey your question effectively. SMS speak or any other sort of abbreviation of the English language becomes difficult to read, and many people on this forum won't even try. This forum is filled with professionals in the Java world, and they are accustomed to reading true English (full sentences).
    _5) Don't be helpless_
This forum is here mainly to help with specific problems, not to teach you Java. If you don't know where to start, a person is most likely going to tell you to write the solution out on paper first, breaking it down into small steps that can be accomplished by the computer.
    _6) Do your research_
Many of the questions posted can be solved with a quick Google search. You should check a few places before you even post a question. They include: this forum (do a forum search), Google (do a Google search), the API's (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/), and the Java Tutorials(http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/)
_7) Post code and errors with your question_
The answer to your problem is in the error messages and the code. Instead of asking a general question about for loops, post the code that you have written and the error info that you get. When asking a question it is IMPERATIVE that you have tried to do it your own way, because the people on the forum mostly won't do it for you, they'll only point out where you have done it wrong and try to help you fix it. Don't paraphrase your error messages, because there are subtleties in the actual messages that you may unknowingly edit out.
    _8) Don't Multi-post_
It is rude to post the same question multiple times or in multiple places in the this forum. This is for the same reason as #2, it makes it seem that you think your problem is more urgent or important than others' problems.
    _9) Don't resurrect dead threads_
If a thread is 3 years old, nobody is going to remember it, so make a new thread to ask your question. If you have a question about something in the old thread, reference it through a hyperlink.
    _10) Take it easy_
As long as the people in the forum see that you're legitimately trying to help yourself, they'll help you as much as they see fit. The biggest problem that newbies have is they rely on the forum to spoonfeed them the info, and it's not going to happen. They'll either get flamed or ignored. The people on the forum aren't trying to find "fresh meat to flame", they legitimately want to help you, and they'll typically give you fair warning if you're doing something annoying or unorthodox.

There does seem to be a way to sticky posts, but I think only mods and admins have the power to do it. There's one over on the Generics forum : http://forum.java.sun.com/forum.jspa?forumID=316
I've been trying to add a pseudo-signature to my posts as far as possible, with a link to a page which pretty much covers this stuff, only it's on JavaRanch:
People on the forum help others voluntarily, it's not their job.
    Help them help you.
Learn how to ask questions first: http://faq.javaranch.com/java/HowToAskQuestionsOnJavaRanch
But I've had a couple of occasions where the OPs thought it was directed at them and they got a tad upset :)
And without hyperlinks, I'm not quite sure how many people actually take the pains to go to that page.
Ah well, no one can say I didn't try.

  • How should i do when my iphone show "iphone this update is not available for this apple id because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled"

how should i do when my iphone show "iphone this update is not available for this apple id because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled"

I came across this issue on my iPad and iPhone today. I did some research and it was suggested that you need to change your region to wherever in the world you originally purchased the app.
    This worked for me.
I had tried signing in and out, deleting apps and resetting my devices; because I had never used any Apple ID except for my own personal one, I thought that those options would sort it. I changed my region to the uk (where the apps were purchased) and now they have updated with no other issues.
    I hope this helps

  • What impact should I see when my Ipad mini is associated to my Wife's Apple ID

    I have a 64gb Ipad mini
My wife has a 16gb Ipad with retina
Both me and my wife have purchased tv shows in iTunes using my Ipad mini and have both downloaded content to that device.
My Ipad mini shows in my wife's iTunes account as being associated with her Apple ID.
To date, I can't see that I have been impacted by that association because we can both log in and out of iTunes on that device, download TV series and play those shows.  With my device being associated with my Wife's Apple ID, what impact should it have on me?
I've been corresponding with Apple for over two weeks and am still no closer being given an answer that makes any sense   I just seems that I am being given stock answers to another question
I have been given links to many help articles that have been directly and indirectly relevant to my query, but they don't answer my question.  I've also read through the community support forum, but there's nothing that I can find that relates to my question.
We are both new to Apple products, iTunes is new territory for us.  I simply want to understand whether or not our shared use of my Ipad mini will create a problem that locks either one of us out of certain content.  We'd rather know this up front so that we make an informed choice of whether to continue purchasing hard copies or start using iTunes for purchasing TV shows.

We have Apple TV (3rd gen)

I found this article for you on the iTunes support website at:
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww

    Hi Japple,
A long time ago, which iTunes account you used to make purchases was important due to the DRM that Apple used at the time.  Now that most music on the iTunes Store is DRM-free the distinction of which account was used to purchase the music is irrelevant.  Songs can be copied freely to as many computers and devices that you own.
Movies and TV shows, however, are not all DRM free.  They have Apple's FairPlay DRM embedded.  What does this mean for you?  Probably not much.  You can authorize up to five computers to play a video file downloaded from either of your iTunes accounts.  iTunes itself keeps track of the associations and, if you change devices in the future, it's very easy to dissociate your accounts in the iTunes Store.
Let me give you an example of how this works.  Let's say my wife buys a CD and a movie from iTunes and I want it on my computer in my library too.  First thing I need to do is copy the files to my machine and add them to my iTunes library (File --> Add to Library, I believe).  When I try to play the music, they'll work immediately, no more configuration required.  When I try to play the movie, however, iTunes will ask me to associate my computer with my wife's Apple ID (if I haven't already done so in the past).  To associate my computer, all I need to do is enter her Apple ID and password into the dialog box that pops up and I'm good to go.  Now I can play that file in my iTunes on my computer without any trouble.  I can also download it to my iOS devices (iPad, iPod, iPhone) seamlessly.
An Apple TV is different than the other iOS devices in that its primary purpose is to stream files from computers, other iOS devices, or the iTunes Store directly.  The Apple ID that you associate with your Apple TV is only relevant to the purchases you make from the iTunes Store and if you turn on Home Sharing.  But both you and your wife can stream files to your Apple TV from your iOS devices.  Make sure that AirPlay is enabled on your Apple TV and your iPads. Then select the Apple TV you want to stream to from your iPad and you should be good to go.
My wife and I have a similar environment to the one you describe and have no trouble viewing or using content on any of our devices (including computers).
    Best of luck!

  • What information should be added to a workspace file in teststand 3

I have recently upgraded from Teststand 2 to version 3. I am trying to distribute a runtime sequence and am having some difficulty with the new Teststand 3 deployment utility. Can anyone tell me exactly what i should be putting into the workspace file in order to create a working runtime sequence?
    Cheers,
    Dave

The first thing to do is to create a new workspace, then right click on the workspace name, then select Add Project to Workspace. Right click on the new project name and select Add Files to Project. Here you can add your main sequence, all subsequences, your VIs, DLLs, any special files that you would want to distribute with your install package. I usually create an LLB file that contains all VIs that I have created. All sub-vi's that are called by my VIs (like GPIB functions, low level file functions, etc) are automatically included in the package. You can include special files like text files or ini files that your program will use. Add them all to the project. Save the workspace file. When you build the project using Deploy TestStand System, make sure you ch
eck the box next to Deploy Files from TestStand Workspace File, and navigate to the workspace you just created.

  • What exception should I use when commit work fails ?

    hi all:
I create a class with methods to insert , modify and delete trasaction data,
when commit work fails, I want to throw an exception, what exception should I use
    for this case?

In general, you should do your commit using CALL FUNCTION IN UPDATE TASK. As this runs in a different process, you will never be able to catch an exception in your main task, even if you throw one in the Open SQL code. What you should do is carefully validate your data before posting it to the database, so that commit cannot fail for data integrity reasons. If it fails for technical reasons (DB down etc.) there is nothing that your code could do about it anyway, so in this case even getting an exception would be no use. What exactly is it you are trying to accomplish?

  • What settings should i use when creating a wallet???

    Dear sirs...
i configured the http server to use ssl. using the default wallet it works fine. now i created a certificate request , send it, get the certificate & added it into the wallet, enabled autologin feature, and then make the httpd.conf file point to it. now i can not see my site on the server. by only changing the wallet with the old one, i get the site working again.
i guess the problem is in the certificate, so what should i check when installing the certificate? is there a limit on key size supported by oracle? should i add a specific cipher suite? how? can anyone tell me where to find a step by step example on using ssl?? (as i told you before, the problem in the wallet)
    thanks for any help
    best regards

    First try doing the following:
In the Application tier home go to webcache/wallets/default
Make a copy of the certificates there and then paste ur own certificates. See it might work.
As for the step by step procedure here is the link:

  • What license should i buy when buying  ebusiness suite

    Dear Sirs...
i am facing a problem of what license should i buy.
i would like to use oracle financials for example... as far as i know i can buy the financials license only if and only if i am installing this application on one server, so i should buy:
    oracle financial user licenses
now if i want to use clustering on the financials (for 2 servers each with one cpu), then i should buy the license of:
    oracle financial user licenses
oracle database server license x 2
    oracle clustering license x 2
    my question now is:
if i am installing financials on a server with 4 cpus, then the license that i will buy will be
    oracle financial user licenses
    is this correct???? or not?
please where can i find such oracle license details?
thanks for any help in advance
    best regards

    Dear Sir...
    just to make sure...
assume i have a company with 200 employees, i want to use finacials application, the application will be deployed on a single server with 4 cpus. the quantity of the license i should buy now is:
    1- 10% of the 200 users = 20 user license, or
    2- 10% of the 200 users =20 x 4 cpus = 80 user license, or
    3- 200 user license, or
    4- 200 x 4 = 800 user license ?
it is supposed i should buy 10% of the 200 users = 20 user license, but i am getting confused because terms of named user plus and cpu license.
is there anyone who can conform which one is correct?
    thanks in advance

  • PLEASE report what you've already tried when posting problems/questions!

A lot of threads have a common theme:
    (1) The first post describes a problem, or asks a question.
    (2) The second (or third, or fourth) post suggests doing or trying something.
    (3) The next response, from the original poster, says "Oh, I already tried that!"
Please, when describing a problem or asking a question, be reasonably detailed about the scenario, what you did, what results you got, WHAT YOU'VE ALREADY TRIED, etc.
Vague undetailed problems/questions, not describing the N steps you've already taken to try to resolve it, etc. just waste time and bandwidth all around!
    Doug

    Hi Doug;
If we are going to start of list of things NOT to do when posting a question, the one I always think is the absolute silliest is when they say I am having trouble with an application and never ever tell up what application they are talking about as if we have a crystal ball which is going to tell us what mythical application it is. Well it turns out generally my crystal ball is foggy just then so I have to ask what are you talking about here.
