Fast App Resume crashing on WP8.1 when not attached to debugger

Hello,
I am developing a WP8.1 app using MVVM Light. Fast app resume is activated by default which is great as I want to include it in the app.
It works as expected when the app is launched from visual studio. However problems arise when the app is launched directly on the device. The following scenarios result in a crash:
launch app from device start menu
go out of app (using windows button)
go back to the app either via the back button or via the icon in the start menu.
At step 3 the app crashes without any error message.
p.s. I am testing on a Lumia 1520
Best regards,
Tom
Have a look at my windows phone apps on http://www.blugri.com

Exact same thing is happening to me too, but with WinJS. It says "Resuming..." then nothing. What do I do?
Ok... found the solution after trying for 3 days.
Removing all the EventListeners on Pause and re-attaching them on Resume works.
[Update]
The main issue seems to be HTML5 Audio. If too many tracks (14) are loaded, it is crashing...
What is going on Microsoft? There is already a crippling Audio bug, now this?https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedbackdetail/view/970180/audio-crashes-windows-phone-html5-games
And in another thread I reported Accelerometer bug:
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsapps/en-US/bff129f5-6959-4e0d-8336-b494bb242be2/accelerometerremoveeventlistener-causing-app-freeze?forum=wpdevelop
All these are making me think if I should quit Win OS and go for other platforms!

I have created hybrid app using cordova. We have 1 post service which gives list of cities. When app hits the service, app gets crashed. This network call working fine in android and iOS.

I made wp8 native app and just wrote above network call. here it works fine and returns list of cities. But in hybrid app it directly crashes app as soon as it hits service.
As app is hybrid, I do not find any way to debug this issue.

Do you have IsScriptEnabled = true in the WebBrowser control?

  • Apps wanting to access my location when not in use (and not giving the option to turn it off)

For most apps, I can choose to share my location 1) not at all; 2) when the app is in use (my favourite); 3) always (even when not in use).
Why do some apps not offer the second option?
For instance, I want to use an app that locates the nearest automatic external defibrillator (if someone has a cardiac arrest) but I can only use the app when I allow the app to access my location all the time. Given the fact that I will use this app perhaps only once every 15 years, I see no point in giving them my location for the next 15 years! That's just a waste of battery power and also a breach of my privacy.
Second example: Apple's own weather app. I check the weather maybe once every month. I do not want the app to locate me all the time. But I can only choose between option 1) and 3) above.
Is there a technical reason apps work like this? Or are they just sneakily trying to get as much information about me as possible?
    Thanks for your thoughts.
    PS: I am using iphone 6, iOS8.3

everything rudegar said is right on.  Still, 10% overnight is more than you would expect - so something is still running.  try-
double click the home button, and see what apps are listed as recent.  one or more of them might be still churning away.  it is a good idea to close those out fully every night.  Any of those apps with notifications or location services may be checking in every now and then and using your power.
you mentioned airplane mode is 'off'.  this may be a terminolgy thing - but having airplane mode 'off', means that the radios are on.  WiFi, and 3 G if you have it.    turning airplane mode "on" turns off the radios.
with everything off on mine - (except I leave the wifi on) -  i use 2 or 3% overnight.
But if you really want it off - do what rudegar says.

  • Fast App resume not working under passcode lock screen on windows phone 8

I have implemented Fast resume in my windows phone 8 app and its working fine in every case except following scenario.
    Steps:
    Suspend the app
    Phone is password locked
    Toast is received.
    Tap on toast.
    App is activated.
The page which was last on backstack opens up with reset state.
    No more navigation
In Fast Resume app should receive one more navigation with deep link on tapping on toast which is missing in this case.
Could anyone please help me out to achieve desired navigation functionality?

    Hi
Please provide correct info when you start your question,
    string toastMessage = "<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\"?>" +
    "<wp:Notification xmlns:wp=\"WPNotification\">" +
    "<wp:Toast>" +
    "<wp:Text1>[string]</wp:Text1>" +
    "<wp:Text2>[string]</wp:Text2>" +
    "<wp:Param>[string]</wp:Param>" +
    "</wp:Toast>" +
    "</wp:Notification>";
add wp param in the toast xml
You can use the Param element to deep link to a specific screen in your app. Here are the allowed formats. Any string used for the following examples must be 256 characters or less.
/page1.xaml – Defines the screen to navigate to in the app when the app starts. The string must begin with a "/".
/page1.xaml?value1=1234 &value2=9876 – Defines the screen to navigate to when the app starts, along with name/value pairs of info. The string must begin with a "/".
?value1=1234 &value2=9876 – Contains name/value pairs of info passed to the default start screen of the app. The string must begin with a "?".

  • Automatic app updates in iOS 8, only when not signed in with Apple ID?

Just updated to iOS 8, and discovered an odd issue, as follows:
One of my favorite additions of iOS 7 was the automatic app updates, because I do not have access to the app store. My app store is locked under restrictions, but with automatic updates I had no need for the app store in order to update my existing apps.
Well, I just updated to iOS 8, and I find that there is only an option for automatic app updates when the app store is open, but as soon as the app store is locked through restrictions, the automatic updates option disappears. And to add to the mystery, the only way to get it back is by SIGNING OUT of my Apple ID. When I do that, the automatic music downloads option disappears, and it is replaced by an option for automatic app updates.
Is this intentional? Why on Earth is there no option for auto updates when signed in, only when signed out? I can't make any sense of it. Any help would be appreciated.
Other than that, iOS 8 is awesome so far.

  • ITunes locks up when iPhone 3G attached, unlocks when not attached

Mine worked for half the afternoon, but now I get a sick sounding beep when I plug it into the USB port, and it locks up iTunes (windows Vista 32 ultimate). Tried different USB ports, shutting down the computer, resetting the iPhone, etc., but nothing works. It doesn't lock up the Mac, and the iPhone appears in iTunes, but iTunes is unresponsive. I downloaded and installed a few apps, and moved about 5 gigs of music videos onto it, and now iTunes locks up. I deleted the apps, but that did no good.

I did some additional research and even tried a hard reset and restore from prior to when I saw the issue.  That did not help.
I found one response to a similar situation that recommended clicking on phone's podcasts and waiting out the spinning beach ball.  I chose to do that late in the evening, so I clicked, and went to bed.  It was working and accessible in the morning.  So far, so good.

  • Win XP SP3 Doesn't Boot Up on New MBP When Not Attached to External Monitor

Ok, here's a weird one for you.
New MBPro 15", bought 45 days ago. I created an NTFS partition, and successfully installed Win XP, and with the updates, got it to SP3.
When my laptop is connected to my Acer external monitor, it boots up fine. It takes a while (45secs to 1 minute) to even get to the Windows loading screen (unlike my wife's 13" MB which is nearly instantaneous to load Windows), but it does eventually get to Windows.
However, if I'm not connected to the monitor, it may/may not get to the Windows screen, but it never gets past it. E.g., it never lets me get to the login screen, or to the actual windows desktop itself. My only recourse is hard booting it and going back to Mac OS.
I've erased and created a new partition and reinstalled WinXP once, to no avail.
I'm guessing it's a video driver issue given that it works when plugged in to a monitor (although when plugged in, i have no issues with display on the laptop or monitor).
I have the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT display adapter. I've also installed the suggested NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator. (I can't think of anything else that might be at issue in terms of drivers).
I was going to just go in and disable drivers, although I think that may be high risk, so I thought I'd check with y'all.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

Same problem here, spent half the day figuring out what was causing this, now I find another victim. Here's what fixed it for me: Restart WinXP with your ext. monitor connected, login to admin acct, go to "Start" menu>Control Panels>Printers and Other Hardware>NVIDIA Control Panel. Expand the Display folder on the left side and select "Set up multiple displays", then select the "Use only one display" radio button and make sure your laptop display is entered in the "Select the display you would like to use." box. Approve the changes and now it should restart without the ext. monitor connected.

  • Photo App Keeps Crashing

I took a picture with the camera app and my phone froze. I rebooted it and now when I open the Photos app it crashes when I open an album. Help!

I've been having the same problem with my iPhone 4S. I went to an Apple Store last week and they said just to restore the software to a previous backup. This did the trick but last night my Photos app started crashing again (and thus when I take a picture the Camera app crashes because it can't save the picture).
I have a hunch that the problem has to do with using the camera from the lock screen. Whenever my Photos app has started to crash it's been when I've been using the Camera directly from the lock screen. The Photos app is supposed to block access to you previously taken pictures but I guess if I do it too much it makes the app not work. Did you all have this occur from using the camera from the lock screen too?
Anyways, you can fix the Photos app by restoring your iPhone to a previous backup that took place before you started having the problem. If you backup your iPhone while it has the problem and then restore your phone with that backup, the app still won't work. I'm going to avoid using my camera from the lock screen from now on, and hopefully Apple will release an update of iOS 5 that will correct this problem. Hope this helps!

  • Email content causes PB Messages app to crash

One particular email that I had received causes the PlayBook Messages app to shut down. When it was at the top of the message list, it actually prevented the app from starting. Only after I received a newer email was I able to open the app.
I don't have any trouble opening this particular  email on other devices.
No other email has ever  given this problem, so I believe  there is some specific content that is causing the crash.
As an experiement, from another device, I tried forwarding email to myself. The forwarded email did not make the Messages app to crash. perhaps the cause is not the content, but something in the message header?
Has anyone else had this problem?
I think BB should be aware that this vulnerability exists, and could be used against their customers.

    Hey,
After searching online I finally found a solution, I already reinstalled Yosemite using cmd+r but that did nothing. Weirdly enough, downloading Yosemite in the App Store and reinstalling that way worked for me. So apparently, cmd+r reinstall and reinstall using the App Store are not identical. I only reinstalled btw, so I kept all my files and settings.
    Hope this works for you!

  • Iphone 5 battery suddening draining when not in use

Had my iphone 5 for about 3 months and was very pleased with the battery life. But literally out of no where the battery started draining super fast. Dropping 15% in 30 minutes when not in used. Here's the deal...nothing has changed ie locations, email, icloud etc. And quite honestly what is the freaking point of having those things if it drains the battery at unreasonable speeds. So I completely frustrated with Apple for at least not saying "we understand theres and issue and we are working on it." I will never switch cuz I'm an idiot Apple diehard but there have been so many bugs of late it's just frustrating. Also at the same time of the fast drain when I swipe to delete a text the delete button dissapears within one second. Both issues came on at the same time. I'm trying reseting the battery, restoring, unchecking notifications and a bunch of other features which is so stupid... whats the point of having a smart phone if you can't use the features? So I am going to demand a new phone and I know the Apple Genius guys who are so far from genius its pathetic are going to say nothing is wrong with the phone haha, just like the did with the super slow WiFi connections I get...they were completely unaware that there was a problem with iphones and Wifi cuz of course at the Apple Store the Wifi flies when they test it there but of course once you go back to your home or business the Wifi is back to super slow. Wow the things we put up with. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions please reply.

  • When i attach workflow to document library, the custom columns data is not saving.

Hi, i had created SharePoint designer workflow (send Email) for Document Library.
I had created Custom columns like.
"Employee Name" of type Person or Group
    "Resume Type"  of type Choice
When i attach my workflow to document library, the columns data is not saved.
It is just uploading resume, and sends email to the user groups, but data is not saved for custom columns. !.e "Employee Name" and "Resume Type".
    Any help will be appreciated.

In SharePoint Document Library, first the document will be uploaded and then the metadata will be updated. So, in your workflow settings, select start workflow when item is changed instead of item is created and then try.

When not attached to the charger, my macbook pro (3 yrs old) will abruptly turn off. I can use it for 5-15 minutes and then the screen just goes black. At that time I can plug it in and turn it back on without a problem. I assume the battery is going bad. Any body know what's happening?

Sounds like the battery needs replacing, as you suspected.  Open System Information and find the battery info under Power.  Here's what mine looks like:

  • App resume fail with MediaCapture WP8.1

    Hi everyone,
Which is the good place to initialize MediaCapture? I used Panorama theme to create a TorchControl and on itemPanorama_Loaded I set:
    MediaCapture mc = new MediaCapture();
    await mc.InitializeAsync();
    mc.Failed += new MediaCaptureFailedEventHandler(Failed)
When App start, nothing happen but if I use other apps and resume, it keep loading, then MediaCaptureFailedEventHandler throw error out about access cross-thread.
If I tried to move code to button event then it fail to create MediaCapture on 2nd tap
    Any suggestion? Thank you

Another finding : Keeping this MediaCapture initializing code inside the page event handlers might be an issue.I removed the async & await from Loaded / OnNavigatedTo event & the app resumed immediately but if the async await code is executed on
these handlers then the app remains on that 'resuming' window for an infinite time.
Suggestion : you can probably move the initializing code when user tries to capture the the picture and keep only one instance of it throughout and then check subsequently on each button click if its null, if it is then only create a new object otherwise
not. You can declare a variable MediaCapture _mc at the top of page for this, to have its visibility throughout the page.
    http://developer.nokia.com/community/wiki/Using_Crypto%2B%2B_library_with_Windows_Phone_8
Again, I actually did it the same as your suggestion before also. App resume normally but if the button event is raised (MediaCapture is created) then app can not be resumed
