Faulty power button on N95 8GB - Is it possible to...

I have an N95 8GB whose power buttton seems to have stopped working.
When I plug in the charger, the screen lights up, the Nokia logo appears and the 'charging' icon appears in the corner. But I can't switch on the phone using the power button.
Someone has suggested to me that I use software on my computer to switch on the phone remotely. I use a Mac, and I have the Nokia Multimedia Transfer and Device Browser installed.
Is there a way, using my Mac, that I can switch the phone on without using the phone's power button?
Thanks for any suggestions,
C

It's not possible.
Take your phone to a Nokia authorized service center and have it repaired. Taking it to any other third party shops would void your warranty.

  • New iPhone replacement has a faulty power button.

I have got my iPhone replaced 4 times till now because of various issues with the handset, out of which 2 iPhone replacements have had power button issue, the last replacement that i took from the service center on 6th December 2013, again had a faulty power button out of the box. Due to the same issue recurring for the 3rd time, i called apple customer care on 7th December,2013 and registered a complaint. The response that i have got from the apple engineering team has been highly disappointing. I was told that it was my usage fault and not an hardware fault. How can this be a usage fault if the phone was faulty out of the box. Such a response is not expected from a brand like apple.
This has offended me and i am highly disappointed with such a response from a brand like Apple.

What exactly would you like from us, your fellow users in these user to user technical support forums?

  • Help! Apple will not help me with a faulty power button

    Hello,
Approximately, 6 months ago, I took my iPhone 4 to an Apple store because I had dropped it. Completely smashed! I had to pay £180 and they gave me a new iPhone.
Last week, the power button seemed to stop working. It doesnt click. It doesnt do anything. They have told me they can't replace because the phone is outside of the 90 day warrenty they give on refurbished phones.
I find this appalling Is there anything I can do?

    No

  • Will apple replace my faulty power button

I am under contract with Optus (australia), the power button on my iphone 5 (64gb) has started working intemittently. Sometime it does some it doesnt, but i know from experience this will get worse till it cease's to function at all.
I took my phone to optus who wanted to send it off for repair (minimum 3 weeks till it gets looked at) and when i said thats not acceptable the 16yr old member of staff i was dealing with gave me a seat and put me on the phone to optus support! (thanks). She was less helpful and offered to send me a 16gb iphone 5 as a loaner, they would charge me $200 for the pleasure.
I called another optus store and an emplyee told me that the apple shop will swap this phone for me, for a refurbished iphone 5 64gb. I am skeptical because in the past i have thought this is only true if you are uner the 12mth warrenty, of which i am in month 14 (coincidence).
Can anyone shed any light on this.
    Thanks
    Ian

Thanks for your reply, I found an optus store near the apple store in the Sydney CBD that asked me questions, checked water damage and replaced the phone with a refurbed iphone 5 64gb so im happy. Didnt have to bother the genius bar thank god.
Anyone having the same problem, its about finding the right optus store with the right member of staff, the guys n the CBD store (280 George St) were Brilliant and could not be further from the poorley trained staff at warringah mall. Any way all well that ends well.

  • If apple replaces my iPod touch due to a faulty power button can I chose which color I get?

I have black but I would like to switch to white

If you bring it to the Genius bar at the Apple store, they might be willing to give you the color you want; no guarantees of course, the warranty says replace in kind, but they might be generous.

  • If apple replaces my iPod touch because of a faulty power button would they let me keep my old iPod?

I would still like to keep the old one

If you want to keep the old one, you'll have to buy a new iPod at the normal full price. Apple gives a reduced price for out-of-warranty replacements because the take the returned iPod, refurbish it, and use it as a service replacement for someone else.
    Regards.

  • IPhone 5 power button sometimes doesn't work under iOS 7

Hi, my wife has noticed the problem which started to appear on her iPhone 5 after she has recently upgraded to IOS 7.0.2
Power button randomly doesn't respond to power off the phone but never to power it on. Does anyone has similar issue?

The issue could be a faulty power button. There's nothing, that I'm aware of, in iOS 7 that would cause inconsistent power button functionality.
Make sure you depress/hold the power button long enough to see the RED power off slider.

  • Satellite A660 - Power Button Issue

For some time now my laptop has been power in on and off without any interaction. I think that it relates to a faulty power button. The button is extremely sensitive and will even power if the surrounding panel is pressed.
My question has anyone else experience this issue and were they able to fix the problem? I'm thinking that if I take it for repair it will be a replacement of the motherboard and cost half the price of the machine.

    Hi,
I had the same issue on the same laptop.
i know how annoying it could be. A simple fix to it was just unscrew from the back side of the laptop the 4 screws that surround the battery. Give it a try it worked for me so far.
it was like the wind would switch the laptop on or off.
it took me more than 2 weeks to figure this fix out. i replaced everything from RAM , HDD, battery, testing of power supply to all software and still had the issue.
i was just about to break my laptop when one day i had it apart and could not be bothered to put the screws back in and BANG it worked like a charm......
    Tell me how you go.
    Cheers,

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • N95 8GB buttons not functioning

I've had my Nokia N95 8GB for 2 yeras now, when all of a sudden some of the top media buttons have stopped working, preventing me from accessing messages and contacts which is a complete pain. I have tried taking the phone apart to clean the board and performed a hard reset, but to no avail. Has anyone ever had this problem and have any solutions? Also, would I have lost all my contacts from reseting?
Any help would be appreciated as it's becoming increasingly frustrating not being able to read my  new messages!

The likely cause of problem is the connecting foil cable between phone's main body and the sliding/screen section. It can easily be replaced with new unit which costs about $20. Make sure you purchase a quality unit. I purchased 2 (very cheap) units from China and 1 unit in USA and all did not function properly. Ended up buying it from reputable source, double the cost and it did work. This is your best option, just replace the part.
Other option is to use a Bluetooth keyboard. I used a mini bluetooth keyboard with my N95 and it controls all keys and shortcut funtions, etc. Not sure if you'll be able to configure keyboard at this stage (without use of some buttons).

  • N95 8GB power saver lightning problem !?

    Hi There ,,
    I just got my new N95 8GB
everything works fine , until i saw this problem
i have this strange screen(power) saver lightning
like if it was flashing or some like that
so if anyone had this problem please help
    Model: N79
    Type: RM-348
    Software version: 11.049
    Solved!

if you are talking about that flashing light at the top of the phone near the front camera, then there's nothing to worry. its normal. its just to indicate that your phone is 'swithced on'. if you observe, when your phone goes into power saving mode, the screen is absolutely blank. its almost impossible to tell if the phone is on or not from a distance.
This is the prupose of that light.
Well....the good news is that you can turn it off if you don't like it.
I dont recollect how but it can be done via settings somewhere i guess.

  • N95 8gb power saver help

    hi
i recently bought an N95 8GB after using the original N95.
i have a problem that is really annoying: when the phone is idling and should display whatever you choose from Power Saver Menu (Date and Time, Text, Animation) in my case Date and Time, it displays the Date and Time vertically and not orizontally like it should be normal...i'm used to it from my previous N95 model and i think this should be normal.
please help me if you know what can i do to change this...it really annoys me to see the Date and Time vertically and have to turn the phone on the side
    thanks alot

  • Faulty/stuck power button again! Who was the genius that located the ear-jack hole with the "Liquid Contact Indicator" at the top of the iPhone, so perspiration can accumulate and void the warranty

My Power button is stuck again...... like many, many other owners....like two of my previous iPhones.  According to the Genius at the Genius Bar in Reno, Nv., my warranty is void because the LCI which is located in the ear-jack hole on the top, has come in contact with moisture/humidity/sweat.  My iPhone has never been dropped or wet. My iPhone4s is in pristine conditon and is in great working order except for the "stuck" power button, but because of a poor quality and location of the ear-jack hole, my warranty has been voided. Everything I have is Apple.  The Rep/Genius in Reno while fullly aware on the chronic power button problems, tried to put the stuck button on  an exposure to moisture. He said, "It doesn't matter if mositure didn't cause the button to stick or not. Your warranty voided because of the Liquid Contact Indicated turned color. Of course, the "power/sync" hole LCI is perfect.  Thank you Apple! I think I'll refuse my iPhone5 delivery on Friday and go buy a "Droid" phone.
Hey, who out there wants to buy my new iPhone5 when it gets to me on Friday???

Thanks for your reply. I too would not rule out moisture damaging the power button, but ...
I guess was being too subtle. My points are:
    1. "Stuck" power buttons is a known issue/problem and Apple has been dealing with it since the first iPhone. This is quality problem. The evidence is with other users all around us and all over the web.
    2. The "sweat" issue is a design problem and should've been addressed long before the release of the iPhone5 in a few days.  Yes, they moved iPhone5's  headphone-jack to the bottom/underneath of the iPhone. To say that the "sweat" issue is the users' fault is like saying, Apple iPhones should only be sold to swine or other mammals without sweat glands. We're talking about as little as one drop from someone's temple running down the headphone-jack opening while one is engadged with a phone call.  That's all it takes to change the color of the LCI.
    3. Also I wanted to make my complaint public on this forum and not Facebook,  hoping to both, not only catch the eye of an Apple lurker, but let others know of the danger of speaking on their iPhones while out in the sun, high humidity or driving a car with the top down....... my point being, even the free AT&T Go Phones have protection against the slightest elements.
    4. I paid close to $700 for this iPhone4s 64G less than a year ago.  I don't like being dismissed with a cut and dry, cookie-cutter answer from a 20yr old without reasonable explanation and then be shoo'd out the door. "Next?"
    5. I love Apple products and I'm glad the new release has addressed the jack/perspiration problem although I know there were other factors involved in the decisions to not move/move it.
