FCE HD - Youtube

Hello!  I've made quite a few videos for youtube using iMovie HD and now have FCE HD.  I'm finding it difficult to understand from the documentation the best way to go about making my finished video youtubeable.  I guess this might relate to the fact that both these programmes date from just about the year youtube was starting up.  It took quite a lot of lengthy experimentation in iMovie to find a system that (seems to!) work and I'd be very happy not to have to go through that again...
Specifically, what settings are advisable for within-reason best quality results, both in the visual and the audio (these are live music videos) please?
Many thanks in advance,
Stephen

Here are the currently supported -> YouTube video formats
Some additional recommendations are in -> Audio/Video Issues with .MOV and .MP4  But do not follow the instructions about exporting to QuickTime Movie. In FCE you will need to export to QuickTime Conversion
I'd suggest exporting to QuckTime Conversion > QuickTime > H.264.  And understand you may run into some difficulties, especially long export times, if you really are using a PowerBook G4

  • System Settings  for Kodak Zi6

Yikes, this is driving me nuts.
When I export from FCE for youtube, I'm getting some funky borders/margins. And I think it is my system settings.
I'm eager to export to 1280 x 720, as that is what YouTube says is it's max.
What do I set for System Settings for the HD from a Zi6?
    Thanks so much.

For a bonus question, do I have to change the settings when I use lower quality video from my Casio Exilim, which I only rarely use, but sometimes like to mix video from that camera in w/ video from the Zi6

  • Creating the Best Video Quality for YouTube Using FCE

Hey guys, have a quick question.  I'm making drum covers for YouTube, and I want the best possible quality for my viewers.  I use Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on my MacBook Pro, and Log and Transfer the video footage from a HDR-CX160 Sony AVCHD Handycam.   What are my best options?
    Thank you!
    Justin

In every aspect of life there is no such thing as one best option as it all depends on your particular circumstances.
Here is a good starting point for you to decide what suits you best.
When you have edited your project in FCE try these settings:-
    Select File>Export>Using QT Conversion.
Click the "Options"  button and when the the Options window opens you will see  "Size", "Settings" and "Sound" buttons.
Click the Size button and set 1920 x 1080
Click  the Settings button and  select:-
    Compression Type . . . . H.264
    Frame Rate . . . . . . . . . Current
    Key Frames . . . . . . . . . Automatic
    Compressor Quality . . . High
Encoding . . . . . . . . . . "Faster" encode will give almost the same quality as "Best" but is twice as fast - your decision!
    Data Rate . . . . . . . . . . Restrict to 10,000kbps  (Don't use a comma when you enter the number)
Then click the "Audio" button and make sure that AAC has been selected.
These settings should give very good quality results fairly quickly, which should play well. Your file size will be around 5GB per hour.
Some people prefer to use the smaller 1280 x 720, in which case the Data Rate should be 5,000kbps.
I suggest you do a quick test with a film under one minute long to see how it looks as there is nothing worse than spending hours encoding a long project only to find that the settings were unsuitable.

  • Export Settings - FCE - For new YouTube

Although there have been several posts on this I don't see a good answer. The link to Ken Stone's site didn't help.
I am using a Canon HG20, FCE, on a MacBook Pro (intel) running 10.5.6. I am mainly creating a simple 2 - 3 minute video interview in FCE that I want to export to a file and upload to YouTube. I want it to preserve widescreen/HD so that it will show up in YouTube with a viewer choice of "View in HD."
Anyone have a suggestion on the best settings to accomplish this? I don't have Compressor.
    Thanks.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I've read and follow this new article on Ken Stone web site:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/you_tube_hdgary.html
And the resulting clip can be displayed in HD on youtube:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yAl1jMftZM&fmt=22
For standard def displayed in 16:9, set the frame size in export with quicktime conversion to 640X360 pixels: the resulting movie will be displayed in full frame without letter or pillar boxes.

  • How to complete FCE video for upload to youtube

    Hi Apple Community,
Does any one know how, exactly step by step
how to finish FCE video for SUCCESFUL upload
to youtube? I so appreciate your help.

    Check this out.
    Note the link to supported
formats. You probably want to give them an h.264 .mov file. If you don't have Compressor, export using QT Conversion. Or download the free MPEG Streamclip and have it do the transcode (in which case you would export from FCE as a QT Movie Current Settings).
    Good luck.

  • FCE Export Settings for Youtube - SD and HD footage

I made a 7 minute video in FCE that combines photos and video shot in both SD and HD.  I would like to upload this video to youtube, and I believe it needs to be exported to Quicktime movie first before I can upload it to youtube.  I have researched this issue and tried many different export options, and the closest I have gotten still results in some black spots showing up during playback in quicktime.  Can someone provide standard advice on the best settings for exporting from FCE in this situation?
I have FCE v. 4.0.1, QT v.7.6.9, and my movies were little movies shot from my Sony Cybershot camera and my Nikon D90 (some in SD and some in HD - by accident).  Still pictures are included in the movie from both of these cameras as well.
    Thank you for your help!

The simplest way to produce good quality video for the internet is:-
    1. File>Export Using QT Conversion.
    2. The "Format" window should say, "QT Movie".
    3. In "Use" select "LAN/Intranet" from the dropdown menu.
    4. Click "Save" and when it has finished encoding, upload it.
Do not mess about altering audio settings, frame rates etc.
Using the above settings an 8 minute video would be encoded in around 20 minutes (depending on computer speed) and would be well under 100MB.
    Is that too big?

  • Getting a clip from Youtube to FCE?

How can i get a clip off youtube to FCE?
    ex. URL: http://youtube.com/watch?v=t648Rixo2WY

Easiest way is going to be to drop a few bucks for a utility like TubeSock. There are free ways, but they're tedious, and many of them require Quicktime Pro. Search the forums if you want.

  • Capturing clips from youtube with FCE

Did a search on here but didn't find anything helpful, but is it possible to capture an HQ clip on youtube, using FCE4?
Would appreciate any help and advice,
    Thanks,
    Terry

No, not with FCE. But since youtube uses Flash, you'd be better off (quality-wise) with the original media. Contact the copyright holder and negotiate with them to provide you with a copy of the original media as part of the rights package.

  • Anyone here using FCE to edit Flip Mino HD .avi converted files- Rendering

This question may have been answered in bits and pieces in other posts but I'm hoping some smart person here can give me the settings I need to avoid rendering .avi HD-to-quicktime clips in Final Cut Express 2.0.1.
I'm shooting HD video with a Flip Mino HD camera which produces .avi files. I am aware FCE doesn't work with .avi files. The native codec of these .avi video files is H.264 ACC with a frame size of 1280 x 720. The quality is excellent but I am aware that H.264 is not an editing codec.
I'm using Mpeg Streamclip to convert those .avi video files into Quicktime files. With the MPEG Streamclip program there are MANY choices for compression including Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC, Apple Intermediate Codec and even the H.264 codec native to the Flip Mino HD. I've tried all of them with 24 frames and also 29.97 frames per second.
And there are several frame size choices as well including the native 1280 x 720. But to avoid distortion I'm keeping with 1280 x 720 unscaled.
The problem is, no matter what settings I seem to chose, when I import those converted clips into Final Cut Express, they need to be rendered before they can be played back or edited. I'm not talking about transitions like dissolves or titles, just straight clips. This problem does not happen in iMovie only FCE. But I hate editing in iMovie.
I have tried to match the setting in the sequence as best I can in FCE, including RT unlimited in playback.
Nothing has worked. Each time I import a converted clip into FCE v.2.0.1 I am forced to render the video.
I've read the MPEG Streamclip tutorial and I've seen the demos on Youtube but nothing is working. These MPEG options and conversions may work with Final Cut Pro but they are not working for me with Final Cut Express 2.0.1 on an intel iMac running 10.4.11.
My goal is to maintain the format frame size and quality, that I get from the Flip Mino HD, all the way into the final export from FCE 2.0.1.
Is there anything you can suggest? Am I missing some small setting? Do I need another third party program or do I need to upgrade to the latest FCE?
    Thanks

    Dear Tom,
With your help I made it work.
I bought Final Cut Express 4 and installed it in my 13 inch Macbook Pro.
I imported the H.264 HD Mpeg 4 clips, shot with my Flip Mino HD camera, into my MBpro.
I used MPEG Streamclip to convert these Flip video files into Quicktime files using the following settings:
Apple Intermediate Codec at 100% quality, 48 kHz, frame rate 29.97. Lower Field, Interlaced Scaling checked. 1280x720 HDTV 720p.
I then opened FCE4 with a sequence setting of DV NTSC 48kHz Anamorphic.
I imported the MPEG converted to QT Clips into FCE4
FCE4 gave me a warning that my clips did not perfectly match my sequence setting and asked me if I wanted to correct that. I said "yes". (I'm assuming it corrected the sequence settings and not the clips)
I was then able to drag those clips into the timeline WITHOUT having to render first!!!!
I was able to edit those clips, add dissolves, fade outs, page wipes and a text title etc.
I then exported the timeline sequence as a QT movie and the final outcome was very good. Keeping the original HD wide screen 16:9 format from the Flip camera.
I then imported that exported QT video from FCE4 into iMovie 8. Using iMovie 8 I easily uploaded that video on to the share function for Youtube. The final edited on Youtube held the HD quality of 720p and format 16:9 that I originally got from the Flip Mino HD camera.
It was a lot of steps and a lot of trial and error but the results were what I wanted.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Final Cut Express with Youtube

    Hi all,
I've been having this really annoying problem ever since I started using final cut to export movie files for Youtube and I can't find anything online to help me out, so hopefully one of you knows the answer!
Basically every time I export a video from FCE and upload it to Youtube, the video only fills a small part of the Youtube screen, rather than taking up the full video box, which looks pretty awful - Check out the example below:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G7n78FqrPs
Has anyone else had this problem? Or does anyone know the optimum export settings for Youtube so the video takes up the full screen?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Ben

Yes, I know the dimensions of the source video do not match the optimum Youtube dimensions, but this video fits the full screen before I put it into FCE so I must be doing something wrong within FCE which is messing with the video. Here's the properties for the video and the sequence (Last time I right clicked on the file outside of FCE; the properties below are what I got when I right clicked on the file and sequence within the browser)
    Video:
    Vid rate: 30fps
    Frame size: 510x284
    Compressor: H.264
    Pixel aspect: Square
    Field dominance: None
    Sequence:
    Vid rate: 25fps
    Frame size: 720x576
    Compressor: DV-PAL
    Pixel aspect: PAL-CCIR 601
    Field dominance: Lower (even)
Hope you can see something wrong in all that?!
    Cheers,
    Ben

  • FCE to iMov to iDVD = generation loss

The only way I have found to burn projects on the internal iMac DVD drive is to
    a) export using QT
    b) import into iMovie
    c) burn from iDVD
It's so frustrating bec the newly burned DVD looks like it was all shot
on an ancient VHS camera and is fuzzier than a youtube video....
    1. how to maintain clarity all the way through? OR
    2. is there a way to burn right out of FCE?
    thx, Hil

    I don't know settings/codec of source footage;
I expect gen loss between old format tapes
transferred to DVD then off DVD into FCE.
What I'm talking about is the diff betw
    FCE to finished DVD.
There are two options FCE offers for export:
    export ---> QuickTime movie
    ---> Using QuickTime Conversion
The former, which I always use, never offers export settings
(once, as an experiment, I tried the latter,
    gen loss was even worse).
    Yes, burning SD.

  • FCE Exporting Nightmares...Motion artifact

I've done nearly a dozen projects now in FCE 4, but still can never get the same export format to work twice. My latest project: Filmed as always on a HDD camcorder 1920x1080, ingested and edited without a problem. Project looks great within Final Cut. (Duration about 4 minutes...There are a few clips filmed with a 640x480 underwater camera.)
When exporting using Export > QuickTime Movie... I get a 2GB file, but it contains bad side-to-side ghosting (double and triple images) during rapid motion. (NOT the small horizontal lines that I see on Google images of non-interlaced video.) I tried exporting it several different ways (using Export > Using QuickTime Conversion), all of which show this ghosting with rapid motion.
I finally took the first file into MPEG Streamclip. The same thing happened until I tried it is a .mp4 file. Now the resolution is slightly less, but the ghosting artifact is gone.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Nearly every project I complete has some sort of artifact that I eventually get rid of after trying ten or eleven exports. The slight drop in resolution isn't nearly as appalling as the motion artifact. But I'd really like to know how I can export a project without motion artifact.

There are no changes in the motion tab.
This clip is probably the best example because my family is bouncing in a tube while being pulled by a boat.
    Viewing in FCE4.0.1:
    http://gallery.me.com/brutewolf#100011/3%20in%20a%20tube%20FCE&bgcolor=black
    After exporting:
    http://gallery.me.com/brutewolf#100011/3%20in%20a%20tub%20after%20export&bgcolor =black
The clip project properties include vid rate 29.97, frame size 1440 x 1080, upper field dominance, and ignore alpha.
It's difficult for me to tell if this is precisely the same frame (because of rapid motion, a transition, and no frame indicator in QuickTime) but it appears that the converted file is zoomed in with a slightly different aspect ratio. Is that a separate issue? The aspect ratio isn't terribly noticeable, but I think the shake artifact is.
This converted file was the one that was then converted in MPEG streamclip to a mp4 file (which eliminated the shake) and posted to YouTube here:

  • Is MBP 13" 2.66 strong enough for FCE?

I am making the switch from PC to Mac. I need a laptop for basic editing with both audio & video. I am more concerned with video editing, as my work has tons of audio PC's decked out. I should preface I work in radio, so my audio edits are mainly :10-:60 pieces. And my videos are 1-5 minutes in length, mainly YouTube stuff, I'm not trying to make Avatar here! I'm going to buy a MBP with Final Cut Express (I work with Sony Vegas Video 9.0 now). So the question! Is a 13 inch MBP 2.66 strong enough for me? Should I upgrade the ram from 4G to 8G? Or should I be looking at a 15 inch? Thanks!

    Hello Atpmixx,
the MBP has definitely enough horsepower to run FCE but it doesn't have much screen real estate ... personally I'd go for the 15" screen. Be aware that you will need to add external storage in order to edit effectively. Also be aware that FCE does not handle all formats/framerates.
Upgrading the RAM will not be necessary: Final Cut is still 32-bit software and thus can't use more than 4 GB of RAM ... in other words, it'll not speed up up your render times.
    hope this helps
