FCP created dv files and windows pc's

Hi
I hardly ever work in the cross platform world as far as 'Production' goes (delevery yes).
ive sent a windows user a captured 30min DV Pal file on a data dual layer DVD. it copies ok to his hard disk but is unplayable in his windows versions of QT, VLC and adobe premiere.
the only 'oddness' of the files was that the cameraman used 4 channel 32khz audio, only channels 1&2 were used and captured.
The camera used was a PD170, i captured with a DSR11- (i no longer have the tape so cant check if DVcam or DV was used or not- but that shouldn't make a difference to the captured file)
any thoughts anyone
Graeme

Hi Thrillcat
thanks for the reply, appreciated.
I'm just a volunteer/middle man on this project, not the producer. just been given the
tape for digitising and passing on the files. i certainly would have recorded differently, The camera man was not a pro and just used the hire cam as it set up by the last user by the sounds of it.
(i'm a 48kz 24bit guy at heart), and worked with DVCam, DVCPro and DV for over 10 years)
I delivered .Mov files. and fully checked the files before sending them.
I have sent DV files captured in FCP (as .mov) before to Premiere editors without issue. So i think this is more down to the Guys PC set up or user error than down to the file.
i did an idiot test today by sending another PC user some samples and they worked fine.
I'm ether doing every thing right, or i'm missing something here.
If you could shed any light that would be great,
thanks
Graeme

  • Move FCP Created Video Files to Windows Hard Drive???

    Hey Kids...
    I have to send a bunch of H.264 QT files (exported out of FCP) to a client who works only on windows machines. He sent me a little Passport HD to dump the files onto when I realized we have some cross platform problems.
    If I format the disk for Mac...He won't be able to access the files because he'll have to reformat the Drive...right?
    I can't format the drive for windows and get the files on there...right?
    I avoid Windows like the plague and know nothing about moving stuff around cross platform...So how do I get the files off my Mac onto a drive formatted for windows that he can access.
    Thanks!

    Format the drive to MS-DOS in the Disk Utility, which is in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, or install MacDrive onto a PC.

    Your solution lies in the File.separator constant; this constant will contain the path separator that is used by the operating system. No need to hardcode one, Java already has it.
    edit: when it comes to paths by the way, I have the bad habit of always using the front slash ( / ). This will also work under Windows and has the added benefit of not needing to be escaped.

    Hi Karen,
    Sounds like OS X has lost the association between Pages and its files.
    Start by quitting Pages, then going to Finder.
    In Finder, locate a .pages file. Click on it (once), then press command-I (eye, not one) to Get Info.
    In the Info window that opens, expand the Open With section.
    In this section, click on the pop-up menu and choose Pages (even if Pages is already shown).
    Click the Change All button to associate all files with the .pages extension with Pages.
    Close the info window.
    Double click any .pages file to check that Pages will now launch and open the file.

  • Cannot create PS file and PDF in Framemaker 9

    I'm using Version 9.0p196.
    When I used the "Advanced Save" to save an .fm file to a pdf, I got the message "The specified printer 'N/A' cannot be found, use printer 'Adobe PDF' instead. After I click OK, it said "cannot create PS file", and "failed to create PDF file.
    It worked fine before.This problem was occurred after I copied some fonts to the following locations:
    C:\Windows\Fonts
    and
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker9\fminit\fonts\adobe
    Those fonts are:
    timesbd.ttf
    times.ttf
    HelveticaWorld-Regular.ttf
    HelveticaWorld-Italic.ttf
    HelveticaWorld-BoldItalic.ttf
    HelveticaWorld-Bold.ttf
    I have no idea if that's the cause of the problem. Does anyone know?
    By the way, the FM 9 is running on XP.
    Thanks,
    Meggie

    Meggie,
    You may or may not have created a mess with fonts. I would try not to have duplicate fonts, it is totally sufficient to have them in C:\Windows\Fonts.
    But your FrameMaker verson is definitely four (4) patches behind. The current version is 9.0.4 (9.0p255) and you can get the updaters here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows
    You have to install them one after another.
    Some of the patches improved the Save as PDF feature.
    For further communication, please add your OS version and Acrobat version.

  • F110 Automatic Payment: Create payment file and create remittance

    Hello,
    I'd like to know the steps to create payment file and remittances in Automatic payment process (F110).
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Emanula,
    payment medium entries are customized in "payment method Country details". You have to decide whether you want to use the PMW or the classical paymentprogram.
    The paymentadvices are generated from the paymentprogram by using the parameters from the CC-data of the paymentmethod - Box "Payment advice control".
    At least: Don't forget to maintain the parameters in f110 "Printout/data medium"
    Hope this gives you a help.
    Best regards

  • I am trying to reinstall Windows on my macbook pro.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."

    I am trying to reinstall Windows (would not launch).  I removed the partition and started over.  I downloaded the support files and Windows 7 iso file to a USB drive.  However, when I try to run the setup.exe program I get the message "this program cannot be run in DOS mode."  I was successful before, what am I doing wrong this time?

    Try a restart.
    If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Combine functionality Batch Create Multiple files and Set Security

    Greetings,
    Is there any way to combine the functionality of Acrobat Pro’s “Batch Create Multiple Files” (File (drop down) -> Create PDF -> Batch Create Multiple Files…) and running a batch process (Advanced -> Document Processing -> Batch Processing -> Batch Sequences -> Set Security)?
    Ideally I’d like to either:
    1)      Add the “Set Security” batch process to the “Batch Create Multiple Files … command located under the File (drop down) -> Create PDF
    or
    2)      Be able to create a batch process that first allows me to select the documents (Word, Excel, etc.) I want to convert into PDF files, then converts them, then runs the Set Security batch process.
    Right now it isn’t too much trouble to first “Create Multiple Files…” then run the batch process Set Security, but it would be nice to be able to do both with a single command.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    TPK

  • How to create a file and store its contents into another file?

    Hi,
    I'm having some trouble trying to create a code where I have to to create a file and store its contents into another file?
    I read the API, but I'm not certain how this file thing works.
    Here's my code so far:
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
              File file = new File("tasks.txt");
              if (file.exists())
                   System.out.println("File already exists");
                   System.exit(0);
              Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in);
              Scanner scan2 = new Scanner(System.in);
              //Scans the input line by line
              scan.useDelimiter("\\n");
              //Scans the input by tabs
              scan2.useDelimiter("\\t");
              PrintWriter outputs = new PrintWriter("newtasks.txt");
              outputs.print("ok");
              outputs.println(3);
              outputs.close();
         }

    I managed to change my text into uppercase, but how do I store the uppercase content into another file.
    -So this is what I did so far, I took a text file and modified its strings to uppercase.
    -Now I need to put those modified strings into another text file, is there a way where I can do that with my current code?
    -I already tried printwriter, but it doesn't seem to work
    public static void main(String[] args)throws IOException
              //Task[] oneHundredTasks = new Task[100];
              String uppercase;
              String combine;
              Scanner scan = null;
              FileInputStream in = null;
            FileOutputStream out = null;
            PrintWriter output = null;
            try
                 scan = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader("tasks.txt")));
                 scan.useDelimiter("\\n");
                 scan.useDelimiter("\\t");
                while (scan.hasNext())
                     if(!scan.hasNext())
                          scan.next();
                     combine = scan.next();
                     uppercase = combine.toUpperCase();
                     System.out.println(uppercase);
            finally
                if (scan != null)
                    scan.close();
            //The program will try the input and output files
            try
                 in = new FileInputStream("tasks.txt");
                out = new FileOutputStream("newtasks.txt");
                int c;
                //The number "-1" is used to indicate that it has reached the end of the stream.
                while ((c = in.read()) != -1)
                    out.write(c);
            finally
                if (in != null)
                    in.close();
                if (out != null)
                    out.close();
         }

    I am having problems creating PDF file and downloading them

    Hi Randy Keil,
    You might need to sign up with your Adobe ID and password at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/convertpdf"
    Then you can choose the desired files to create the PDF.
    Now, let me know what error message do you get while doing the same.
    What kind of files are you trying to convert to PDF?
    Have you checked with your internet connection and tried using a different browser?
    Hope to get your response.
    Regards,

    Before this last upgrade, when I would create a file and do a "Save As" it would always open "My Documents" by default, which is what I prefer. But since the upgrade it opens in some anonymous file, to which I have to go through several steps to get to My Documents, and I can't seem to select the default in my preferences. HELP PLEASE!!!

  • Opening FCP captured HDV file in windows

    Hello. I'm trying to take a HDV file I captured in FCP and open it in either Adobe Premiere 1.5.1 or TMPGenc for encoding into VC-1/WMV HD AP (I'd like to edit it in Adobe Premiere), and then put it through say...Scenarist.
    I have not been able to open it in QT for Windows at all no matter what. I want to keep it as an HDV file and not reencode due to file space issues. I have intalled the HDV plugin for Premiere 1.5.1 however it doesn't open in anything at all, indicating it's not a Adobe issue.
    What i suspect is that it's not opening because it's in a proprietary QT wrapper that Apple will not let anyone access to build a decoder around. Once captured on a mac it's obviously not a .avi format file regardless of codec used.
    If this is not possible a simple 'no it's not possible' would easily suffice. I'm off to get some sleep. TIA.

    Probably best practice to start and finish the project on the same platform.
    Most of the HDV video codecs used in FCP do not have Windows counterparts. Soon FCP Suite will be updated to version 6 (maybe NAB convention).

  • Create unicode file and read unicode file

    In principle you can't. LabVIEW does not support Unicode (yet)! When it will officially support that is a question that I can't answer since I don't know it and as far as I know NI doesn't want to answer.
    So the real question you have to ask first is where and why do you want to read and write Unicode file. And what type of Unicode? Unicode is definitly not just Unicode as Windows has a different notion of Unicode (16 Bit characters) than Unix has (32 Bit characters). The 16 Bit Unicode from Windows is able to cover most languages on this globe but definitly not all without code expansion techniques.
    If you want to do this on Windows and have decided that there is no other way to do what you want you will probably have to access the WideCharToMultiByte() and MultibyteToWideChar() Windows APIs using the Call Library Node in order to convert between 8 bit multybyte strings as used in LabVIEW and the Unicode format necessary in your file.

  • Illustrator Crashes when creating new file and opening a file

    Every time I try to create a new file, or even open an existing file Illustrator crashes. I have re-installed illustrator...no luck. I have tried running Illustrator while holding SHIFT...no luck. I am using windows 7, and have no crazy drivers that I believe need to be updated.
    Thank you for your help!
    -Patrick

    Have been Googling like always after Illustrator CC crashes with these specific symptoms (Opening fine, New file of Opening existing file crashes).
    All other threads had no working solution for me and the symptoms seemed little different - Opening the program and keeping it open without opening or creating a file was no problem.
    This was the well-appreciated solution that did the trick for me.
    Re: Illustrator CC 17.1 Crashing on New File or Open File (Win 7) works under a different user?
    (In my case I think my default printer had been changed in the background by using a VPN connection this morning which I hardly use ever. Never had been thinking in that direction of course.)
    Good luck to you all.
