FCP Easy settings for panasonic AG-AF100

What is the proper easy setup settings? I'm new to FCP and my camera Panasonic AG AF100.
I shot AVCHD HD1080p30. What should I use for easy set up?
Also, if I shot other clips in 108024p would I need to change anything in set-up or will it do this automatically?
Thanks so much for your advice.

Here's a tutorial for tapeless ingest in FCP 7. ALL tapeless ingest. The footage from the AF-100 will come in as ProRes.

  • Easy Setup For Panasonic AG-HMC150 Files?

I just got my new Panasonic AG-HMC150, and shot some sample footage at 720p/60. I had no problems getting the clips into FCP using Log & Transfer, and they look fine when playing them in the viewer, or from the timeline.
I have a Matrox MXO, and the clips also play great on my 2nd Cinema Display that runs off of the Matrox; and, I have a small Sony 4:3 CRT monitor, that shows the clips properly letterboxed, and they play fine on that too. I've even exported the clips to Compressor, and burned a DVD in DVDSP, which looks great. Audio is fine, in sync, etc.
The only problem is in the FCP canvas window; the lips will flicker a little or a lot, depending on the View Menu's video playback setting; using MXO DVCPRO 1280x720/59.94 causes a lot of flicker, while choosing MXO Uncompressed 1280x720/59.94 causes a little .
I'm not sure if my Easy Setup is correct; I've chosen the MXO Apple Pro Res 720p/59.94 sequence setting, but I'm not sure what to do for Capture or Device Control settings; I wouldn't think that they would matter.
I think the problem is with the Video Playback setting; I've chosen several of the MXO settings, and they all play fine on my Matrox monitor, but I can't find one that will smooth out playback in the canvas. Or, since everything else seems to work fine, should I even be worrying about this?
I'm making the switch from capturing tapes, and I actually expected a lot more trouble than I'm having; but solving this tiny glitch would be great. I'm looking forward to getting familiar with this camera and using it for some upcoming events.
Any suggestions on the proper Easy Setup settings for files from this camera, and in particular, a good View/Video Playback setting? Thanks in advance.

Click on one of the ingest camera files in the FCP Browser. Once it is selected, type Command + 9 to see the properties for the clip. Either report those properties here or take a screen shot of the item properties and post that here.
Next, click anywhere in your timeline, then type Command + 0 {zero} to see your Sequence Settings. Either report those settings here or take a screen shot of your Sequence Settings and post that screen shot here.

  • Best settings for Panasonic DVX100B

Hey all. I shot footage in 24pAdvanced on my Panasonic DVX100b. Now I am stuck trying to figure out the most optimal capture, sequence, and export presets. I want to get good clear 720p video out of the footage, but when I export it looks grainy and low quality.
Can you guys post your workflows for the DVX?
    As of now I have:
L/C: DV NTSC 48 kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2) Pulldown Removal preset wit Firewire NTSC NDF
    Sequence: NTSC DV - 48kHz 23.98
    Export: Current Settings

I have found the best settings for any user using the Panasonic DVX AG-100b shooting with 24pA
These settings get rid of issues like Pulldown Cadence Errors, Dropped Frames, Horrible Quality, and so on.

And when you're done editing, EXPORT USING COMPRESSOR and find the best settings.

My advice, SAVE ALL OF THESE to an easy setup and copy this post just incase you lose the settings.

  • Settings for Panasonic EDTV?

I'd like to hook up my new mini to the 42" EDTV Panasonic monitor via VGA.
It seems to be ok at 800X600 but something still seems stretched. I think the native resolution of this monitor is 852X480, but when I choose that from the displays menu (in system prefs), the picture disappears and the only way to get it back is oull out the vga cable and restart.
What do you think is going on here and what are the best settings for my plasma monitor?

Be careful with what connection you use. You need to connect to the TV with either HDMI or DVI. I have a 42" Sony HDTV and tried to connect using the DVI TV adaptor connecting with S Video. I sucked, so I sprung for an extra HDMI cord and now it's everything I was hoping for - crystal clear, normal dimensioned wide screen. The borders are a little smaller than the screen and overscan seems to be either too small or too big, but it's very close to correct and good enough for my purposes right now. Check your cable type and good luck!

  • Easy setup for Panasonic AG-HMC40P

I have the camera settings to capture at 1080/60i.  I burn to regular DVD, not blueray.  Can you please tell me what the easy setup should be in FCP? Once I'm finished editing in FCP, I output to QT movie and then into iDVD.

  • FCP sequence settings for Sony HandyCam video

I'm working with video shot on a Sony Handycam HDR-CX550.  I had no problem importing it into iMovie and then to FCP, however I can't figure out what sequence settings I should use.  It appears to be 16x9, but shows up as 4x3 in my FCP bin.  Also, the sequence settings I've tried all require rendering every time I make an edit, which obviously becomes a huge pain.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have FCP 6.  Should I put this question in the Final Cut Studio forum?

  • FCP export settings for import in iMovie '08

Q: What QT/ Compressor export settings do I need to use in FCP in order to be able to import the MOV file in iLife '08?
The reason for using iLife '08 is solely for sharing the movie to dotMac.
(if you know alternatives bypassing iMovie '08 ... be my guest).
    Background:
I create my footage with a Sony HDR-HC7.
I capture the footage on my Macs (G5 and MBP) via FCP.
I edit my sequence in FCP using the HDV sequence presets
I output using FCP export to Quicktime. MOV file has HDV properties.
Funny: the captured MOV file with HDV properties can be read by iMovie '08 , the edited sequence with exactly the same HDV properties can not be read by iMovie '08 .
I tried a Compressor conversion to:
    - Apple preset iTV --> no import
    - Apple preset iPod video --> no import
    - Apple preset m2v and m4v --> both no import
    - Apple preset mp4 --> no import
iLife help mentiones that it accepts DV, mp4 and some MOV formats.
Q: what is the list of "some"
    Please help.
    Coen

Q: What QT/ Compressor export settings do I need to use in FCP in order to be able to import the MOV file in iLife '08?
Don't have FCP v5/6 but with older FCP/FCE usually use AIC for crossover in MOV file container.
iLife help mentiones that it accepts DV, mp4 and some MOV formats.
Q: what is the list of "some"
I have personally used DV, AIC, MJPEG, MPEG4, H.264 and i believe Photo-JPEG with which another individual indicated he was having problems. As to audio for these files, usually use DV, Linear PCM ("Big Endian" Integer), AAC, or even uncompressed. Avoid Apple Animation and Apple Video compression formats which will import/edit but will not correctly export. However, be advised that there are some caveats. E.g., a "Large or Full" slideshow export from iPhoto places the MPEG4/AAC data in an MOV file container which iMovie '08 will not import. However, if you use the MPEG Streamclip "Save As..." File menu option to save the same data in an MP4 file container. Therefore, would say that some problems here may be associated with iMovie '08 "pre-scanning" of files and possible minor bugs in proper error trapping on compression formats vs file containers.

  • FCP 6 setting for Panasonic HDC-SD9..Confusing

    Hi,
    1) Do the setting in Sequence Setting affected the Quality or Format of the Result when exporting the clip?
    2) How s'ld i set in FCP for clips recorded from Panasonic HDC-SD9?
    3) "Set the same setting and format to match the clip" is the Best way for FCP6 Setting?
    4) How do you simplified the difference of HDV, Apple ProRes, Apple ProRes (HD) and AIC? which will be the one to fit my needs?

  • *** FCP output settings for Blu-Ray?

I'm not sure if/how this is possible, but I'd like to export one of my HDV sequences and take it to a production house that can burn a Blu-Ray disc for me. Is it possible to do this using FCP/Compressor or should I wait until NAB for hopefully FCP 6?
If it's possible to export an HDV quality master can someone walk me through it? Would it work for them to use a file that I just export as a full-quality self-contained Quicktime movie?
    Thanks in advance.

Talk to the production house of choice. Only they can tell you what they need. Hopefully for you it won't be HDV.

  • M2v settings for panasonic p2 footage (24p)

Hi.. I am just curious, since the original footage was shot 24p, do I want compressor's video format rate to be 23.98? or do I want 29.97?
This is going to DVD studio pro.
Also, can anyone explain to me how the average bit rate vs. maximum bit rate actually works?
    thank you.

I'm not sure if this is the same product you mentioned...but I've had luck to recover deleted files once with Data Rescue II.
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/datarescueinfo.php
Files deleted, trash emptied, and other data had been written. But, this was able to pull back some trashed image sequences. With the P2 footage, you're probably dealing with much more material...but if you haven't tried this version, it's worth a shot.

  • Need advise on best settings for FCP 7!

I am looking for some advice on the best settings for FCP 7 when I am syncing sound using pluraleyes, exporting into quicktime as one file and then importing that new file into FCP 7 for editing. I have noticed that sometimes my Quicktime files are very large (20 gb) and sometimes they are much smaller (130 MB), but I never changed the settings.
I am working on FCP 7 and shot using my Panasonic GH3 at 24 fps (which comes to 23.98). My frame size is 1920x1080. Compressor is H.264. Data rate: 8.6 MB/sec. Audio rate: 48.0 KHz.  I have heard that FCP 7 does not properly deal with H.264. So, I am wondering, what should my settings be?  Should I set to "Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p 48 kHz"?  Is there anything I need to know when I export to Quicktime 7 Pro in order to not reduce the quality of the video? Should I be changing my video files first before I even start to work on them?
I haven't edited in almost ten years so I am desperate need of some guidance!
Final Cut Pro 7, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

    Hi Shane Ross,
Thanks for your help.  So, I already synced all of my interviews in FCP 7 (using pluraleyes) before I changed the video to ProRess 422.  Can I just go into FCP (in the same project) and compress the video footage, import the new video files and throw it into the timeline? Or will this cause issues? I tried this as a test and it seems to be okay but I just want to check that there aren't any issues that I am not considering.
Also, when I do compress, it seems to take forever (sometimes two hours). Is there any way to make this move along faster?
    Thanks so much!

  • FCP Settings for HDV "Help!"

I have digitized some HD footage shot on a Cannon HV20 and I have set my Video settings accordingly,( frame size 1920 X 1080, Pix Aspect ratio is 1440 X 1080, edit timebase 29.27, compressor HDV 1080i60. However whenever I drag a clip onto my timeline I have to render it and it takes an age!
I am currently using FC 5.01
Any suggestions of how I change my settings so I don’t have to render these clips would be fantastic.
    Thanks

Try using the "Easy setup" for the format you've shot. i.e. HDV 1080i for example. This setup is found in the Final Cut Pro/Easy Setup menu. Then create a new sequence to edit with. The trick is to match the clip's properties when you setup a sequence. So if you've shot HDV 1080i, then select that same sequence setting to edit with. No renders that way.
You also need to be running FCP 5.0.2 or later.

  • FCP settings for HDCAM 1080 @ 50i

    Hello people,
This is my 1st (of many I'm sure) posts..
I have a bunch of tapes shot on a HDCAM 750 and 1080/50i. I've poppped them into FCP at DVCPRO50 for the rough cut.
What settings do I use witin FCP to capture the HDCAM uncompressed.. I have a Kona LHe and 3Tb of storage on a fibre channel, 8 gig RAM so we're ready to cook.. just not sure which setting to go.. I'm confused with the 50i thing.. there's not an 'easy setup' for this.. Is there?
    Help me people!

    Welcome to the forums.
Yes, I have the Kona LH as well and I note that there isn't an Easy Setup for 1080i50. 1080i25, but not 50. Could it be as simple as duplicating a 1080i25 setup, and changing the frame rate from 25 to 50? I dunno...that is an AWEFULLY high rate. There isn't a 1080i60 either. The highest it goes is 29.97. And when I deliver 1080 masters, they are 23.98.
I only mention the duplicating option as I see that Decklink HD codecs offer that option.
What happens if you capture at uncompressed 10-bit HD 1080i25?
