FCP to flv?

I am ready to send my website programmers final video for my site. The end size is 617 x 411 - a proportionate reduction of 720 x 480. They want it in .flv. I am on a Mac with MPEG Streamclip & QT Pro. I am using FCP 6.
What would be the best way (process, codec, app) to get the video there with good video / audio resolution? I have currently exported with Compressor using H.264 into Quicktime .mov and it looks great. Convert that or go back to FCP and do something else?
I apologize if the answer to this question is more complicated than a forum response allows. But, try anyway.

Reports here suggest that renaming the H264 file to have a .flv ending works. I have never tried it.
There are numerous flv converters available. Some are free, some less so.
And of course, there's always Adobe's Flash.

  • Exporting from FCP to FLV

I have begun to produce multimedia features (audio slide shows, stills combined with audio, no video yet) using FCP. I bit the bullet and bought the whole Final Cut Studio because I figured I would need many of the programs in the suite.
My first sizable client wants me to deliver the features not as QT files, but as .flv flash files. Is there a way to export my FCP project as an .flv file for this client with what I already have (all the FCP Studio apps) or do I still need to buy additional software? I have been researching this a bit and what I've come across so far are the following options:
    1. buying flash and thus being able to export via compressor (but this seems like overkill considering flash is very expensive and I don't need it for anything else)
    2. buy Sorenson Squeeze, but this also seems like an expensive option at $500 - 600.
    3. I read somewhere on this forum that you can export to H.264 using compressor, and then simply change the suffix from .mov to .flv. Does anyone know if this really works?
To date most of my clients ask me to deliver content as QT .mov files, or in some cases make DVDs for them. I am unenthusiastic about spending $5-600 for Sorenson Squeeze unless there is no other good way, as this is the only client who has requested delivery in .flv files for their flash web server.
Is there any other high quality, reliable way to do this within the Final Cut Pro Studio set of apps, or do I have to invest more money?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have been doing some research and testing, and for anyone who's interested I have some new information, and also a few new questions.
My One to One Apple trainer turned me on to something called MPEG Streamclip which is a free download (just google it for the link). I tested it and the result was pretty decent. I also discovered that there is a less expensive Squeeze option called Squeeze 5 for Flash ($199) and Squeeze 5 for Flash Pro ($299). Beyond the $39 Flix Standard that G. mentioned here, On2 also makes Flix Exporter, which is a plug in for Final Cut Pro, and costs $199. I will be testing it shortly.
My question now is has anybody on this forum been using the Flix Standard, or either Squeeze 5 for Flash (pro or non-pro version), and have any opinions as to how they compare? I'm trying to figure out the relative pros and cons to each one so I can make an informed decision.
    Thanks for any feedback.

  • I have update to FCP7 and now I can't export as FLV

    Hi,
First sorry for my bad English, this is not my mother tongue.
    My problem is the next,
In my PowerMac with FCP6, Flash8 Video Encoder, Flash8 and Quicktime Pro 7, I use to export without problem from FCP as FLV by File / using Quicktime conversion...
Now with my new MacPro with FC Studio (FCP7, etc) and with the upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite Master collection, I can't export as FLV directly from FCP.
Please do I need something else?
Export my videos to FLV files is something that I have to do all the time, almost the 90% of my production finish as FLV.
Any idea, plugin, codec or something??
    Many thanks in advance

  • Lost export option - Macromedia flv

okay. I have been up all night so please excuse tired man's question. I usually export FCP to FLV by going to ; file/export/quicktime conversion and select "macromedia flv as the option. The option has disappeared. This happened after the last update, as best as I can determine. Does anyone know how to restore this function? If this was a third party app it installed automatically from another program.I have searched the discussion boards and saw the H264 option but I was really happy with the results I had before. Thanks in advance for any help you may have. zzzz.

Macromedia's flv isn't a legacy codecs. Check you your hard drive OS library folder-->Quicktime folder for the flv component. If it not there do a spotlight search for it. Just type in flv. If you still can't find it your going to have to reinstall flash.
You can only have the Macromedia's flv component if Flash 6 or 7 is install. From version 8 to date Flash is owned by Adobe.

  • Best way to interface flash AS3 with CF

Does anyone know of any good examples of how to interface
    Flash AS3 with Coldfusion?
    Thanks!!!
    Carlos

Unfortunately the camera does something with flash media, which could confuse the question. Do you mean that you want to use this camera for creating Adobe Flash Video content? If that's the case I would argue to use its 720p/24p mode, that would give you 24 fps 1280x720 movies that ought to work nicely in Flash, and could scale to smaller 16:9 sizes better than say a 1080i video would. You could use 720p/30p too if you want it a little smoother.
If you have Studio 8 installed on the machine you're using, you can export straight from FCP to FLV, by choosing the Export to FLV option in the Export using QuickTime Conversion dialog.

  • Visual Hub, Streamclip and QTPro

I'm trying to make the transition from the PC to the MAC and I need to be able to view flv, wmv, avi, and mpeg. Plus I'd like to be able to convert .mov [from FCP] to flv, wmv, and avi.
I've evaluated VisualHub, easy to use and seems to have good quality, however, my source file was an SD 16x9 and I could only get it to encode 4x3. Very easy program to use but it doesn't have a player.
I have not tried Flip4Mac but it seems to be well recommended. Its a bit more expensive and doesn't have as many formats but it has a player.
Whats the best way to go, purchase VisualHub $24 and upgrade to QTPro $29 for a total of $53 or purchase Flip4Mac wmv Studio for $49?

From the specs of your gear, I suspect that you are a power user. In which case, I think that you will need all of them...........
QT pro for general stuff and the ability to export from Quicktime. You may also find the mpeg 2 component useful although if you have FCP, you may find that it is included in the FCP package.
Flip4Mac to view wmv and some avi files and the ability to create wmv files - for which you will need a high end version.
    VisualHub for conversions.
    Streamclip
    Also:
Toast for easy SVCD, VCD and DVD production and DivX stuff and mpeg 2 production.
VLC to play almost anything......for free!!!!!
There is much overlap of abilities but I could not do without any of them except perhaps Streamclip - but that is free anyway and it is highly rated by many.
With regard to VisuaHub encoding 4:3 rather than 16:9, I think that you will find an advanced setting to cover it. If not try the VisualHub forum.

  • Exporting as an .FLV movie ??? Works from native QT but NOT FCP QT options

I have Flash 8 + the video encoder and FCP 5.1.4 on my Mac.
When using Quicktime independently I can export as an FLV. However when exporting from FCP (using Quicktime) there's no option...
Can anyone help, I know this is possible because we have the same set up at work.
    Cheers. Mark.

Yep, that's what I mean when I say I've tried from Quicktime...
    No option at all

  • FCP Freezes When Exporting to Flash Video (FLV)

Final Cut Pro 7.0.2 freezes when exporting to Flash Video (FLV). The resulting FLV file contains only a few seconds of the exported video. A 2009 Apple Support notice offers this re. FCP 6 and CS3 Flash Video Encoder...

Final Cut Pro: May quit unexpectedly when exporting to Flash
    Last Modified: February 13, 2009
    Article: TS2593
    Symptoms
Final Cut Pro may quit unexpectedly when you export using QuickTime Conversion if you choose Flash Video (FLV) from the Format menu.
    Products Affected
Final Cut Pro 6.x, Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder
    Resolution
This can happen if you use the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Flash Video Encoder and Final Cut Pro together. This issue does not occur with the Flash Video Encoder in Adobe Creative Suite 4. To work around the issue:
Choose File > Export > QuickTime Movie.
Be sure to enable Make Movie Self-Contained.
Open the exported movie in QuickTime Player.
Export the movie to Flash from QuickTime Player.
    ===
I just installed CS5, so I would think I shouldn't be bothered with an older, problematic Flash Video Encoder. I don't think I should have to convert an MOV file to an FLV file using QuickTime Reader or anything else. Why doesn't it export correctly out of FCPro 7.0.2?

    oh well.

  • Exporting footage as an .FLV - FCP not giving me the option

I have Flash Pro 8 and the video encoder (which came with it) installed on my iMac.
Now I'm trying to export my footage from FCP as an .FLV
On my last computer I just went: Export / Quicktime Compression / and there was an option for .FLV export.
However for some reason that option isn't there on my iMac.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers, Mark

  • Flash FLV into FCP

    Hi there,
Is there a way of getting a flash video from a website and importing it into FCP? I have downloaded the flv file but i cannot import it into FCP. Is there a plugin or technique for this?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Yes, install this:
    http://perian.org/
and then FLVs can import into FCP as if they were QuickTime.

  • FLV encoding from FCP?

Any tips for software (not too expensive) for encoding FLV direct from FCP or Quicktime?

Nah - but with QuickTime Reference it is almost the same thing... Any reason why you are trying to stay in FCP? I encode all day and usually try and get out of FCP for encoding via QuickTime reference... Not only does it bypass tying up FCP (in version 6 or below) but I have less issues with the encodes.
I had another thought - Make something like this: H.264 Main Profile, 5 Mbps max., 1280×720 max., 30 fps max. Audio: AAC-LC, stereo, 128 Kbps, 48 kHz. Then change its file extension to FLV.
    See what happens.

  • I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X. For example, can I export  in F4V or FLV format?

I would like to know the list of possible output (export) file codec from FCP X.  For example, can I export  in FLV format?  Where do I find the list, which gives me all the details about it?  Or is there only one output codec? Thanks

That's an excellent analogy. While FCP cannot export FLV. It is possible to do a very simple substitution. If you export a QuickTime movie using the .mov suffix with the H.264 codec, you can change it to FLV simply by changing the suffix to .flv. This is an acceptable format for Flash movies on most web sites, if that's where you're trying to go.

  • FLV export option not showing in FCP

i recently purchased CS5 Master Collection Student & Teacher Edition. i am told that with the installation of CS5, an flv export option should appear in FCP when using "Export QT Movie".
Unfortunately this is not the case, neither does it appear in the FCP export menu, nor does FLV show up in Compressor, when choosing "Quicktime Export Components" from the "add" button.
    Can anyone help?

In this scenario, you don't want, Export > QT movie. You instead want, Export > Using QT Conversion. Then one of your "OPTIONS" should be "flv."

In Compressor, same sort of deal: you need to set up a file with "Quicktime Export Components" selected. Not QuickTime Movie. Then set the encoder type to FLV.

Hy Dave, I have no encoder, I'am doing export via conversion quicktime (I have quicktime pro) and usually I did it for .mov, but when I ask him FLV options, he is doing it but slowly and also he is not answering so you have to stop fcp, it is not usefull. thank you to tell me if you know exactly what I have to do. My issue is to convert in flv files when I finish the fcp project (to give to people who have a website for example and who didn't want .mov file who is too large).
