I just bought FCP and I wanted to know if I should turn on my external device (jvc mini dv deck) before I open FCP or after I open FCP. Thanks, David

Hello.
I am having a problem with FCP and external devices. I have FCP 5.1.2, and a Sony DCR pc100 handycam, which I use to capture and record to tape all my projects. Some time ago, however, the program simply stopped outputting to the camera. I am able to capture, and the program recognizes the camera, but nothing is returned to the device. At first I thought that it was the camera, since it´s old and all, but I tried with different, newer ones, and the same thing happened. I have changed the settings in FCP, and also changed the firewire cable to see if that was it, but nothing....not only am I not able to record to tape my projects, but also I´m not able to see my work on an external monitor. If you have any ideas, I´d prreciate them....
thanks...Do everything in Shane's Stock Answers #8 and get back to us with results or lack thereof.

Audio to midi error - check conflict with external device - apogee rosetta
hey there
i have a problem and any help is much appreciated..
basically i am running a quad xeon dual 2.66 machine under 10.4.10 and using logic 7.2. 1 gig ram.
i am using a apogee rosetta 800 with the option x firewire card for my audio interface.
whenever i set a track up to record and 'play' logic i get a message saying,
'unable to sync audio to midi check conflict with external device' and then it says something like sample rate 43021 recognised.. something close to 44100 but not quite..
so i think my problem is a clocking/sync one maybe? i have tried everything i could think of, including fixes suggested on the forums here, but nothing so far seems to help e.g making sure autosync in on the transport is unchecked, checking audio MIDI setup.
worryingly with the few problems similar to this on the forums there doesn't seem to be a way to fix it!!
anybody who could help would be a lifesaver.. this is destroying my workflow!! emailed apogee and im waiting for a reply.
thank you very much
richieHi,
Ok, then there can be a few more possibilities,
Try this: unplug your Rosetta, and any other FireWire devices you might have. Basicallly you want to start Logic with the internal audio.
If this works ok, then it is not an issue with the Mac's hardware, and is an issue with a FW device.
Then, quit Logic, and plug in the Rosetta by itself. Boot Logic, and select it as the audio interface. Try playing stuff back. does it work? If yes, then the issue is with another FW device. If there is a issue, then there might be a corrupt driver, a bad FW cable, etc. Keep trying one by one to go through re-installing the drivers, and also try changing the FW cable. If this still does not solve it, there might be an issue with the Mac OS 10.4.10. You might need to install Pro App support 4.0. Also, there was a fix available from Apple not so long ago specifically for FW audio devices. Please do a search in Apple's suport site for "FireWire audio device" and see if you find the patch.
If the Rosetta works when it is the only FW device hooked up to the Mac, then you have a conflict with another device, like a FW hard drive, etc... check each one until you find the culprit.

Restored iMac from an MBP Backup giving problems with external devices
Recently, I restored from an MBP Leopard OS Time machine Backup into a new iMac 27".
Restoring process ran smoothly and took like an hour to recover my files and applications from the external disk time machine backup and after that the new iMac had everything my old MBP used to have but the OS. So far so good.
But now I'm having problems connecting external devices, like the very same external disk to set my time machine backup or a Cannon Printer.
The iMac can recognize and attach the external HDD (iOmega 1TB), I've succesfully formated it several times, but as soon as the backup process starts it will idle after backing 200MB or so and the HDD will be abruptly disconnected.
Regarding the MP610 Cannon printer/scanner I used it smoothly once from this iMac, but after that it's been impossible to scan or print again, and it keeps saying it is connected to an MBP instead of an iMac!
I already read the other related topics but my case is slightly different than those, so I will appreciate anyhelp you could provide me.When you say you restored, what does that mean? Did you do a full restore, installing the system from the backup onto the iMac? If so, you've probably borked the system and will have to reinstall it. See:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186
Also, if you restored applications, it's possible some of those applications are not installed correctly or are not compatible with SL. Printing problems are common among folks who have not updated printer drivers to SL-compatible versions. -
Overloading with external devices
Hi all,
I currently have 3 USB and 5 firewire ports available to add extra devices to my G4. I have one power strip maxed out with router, speakers, monitor, etc. and another with one device added to it. Should I be concerned with overloading when considering more external drives? How many external drives can I actually connect to my G4 AGP?
Thanks
Web dudeYour router, speakers, monitor, etc. don't draw power from your Mac, so they are not a concern. You mention that you are using a power strip. Hopefully, this is a surge protection power strip. Even better is an uninterruptable power supply (UPS).
I use a Belkin UPS. The UPS provides surge protection, automatic voltage control and best of all, a battery backup to keep the Mac running during power outages. It also keeps the Mac from going Off when you have a momentary "blip" in the incoming power. The UPS also has a connector for your cable or tel line to provide surge protection. This is often overlooked, because a lightning strike can also enter your Mac via a cable or tel line. A UPS is cheap insurance.

How to use product recovery with external devices?
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and it just happens that I wanted to re-format my windows XP. But I realized that my CD drive isn't working anymore so I decided to hook my external CD burner to my pc.
When the laptop is on, the CD is well recognized from that source. But my problem now is that I can't find a way to boot the CD from the external CD drive (USB-Boot).
How do I do it? Or does anyone have a better solution for me to format my laptop given that the internal CD drive isn't working? (I've already tried in BIOS to get external devices as the first device to boot, doesn't work :-( )Unfortunately dude... I have bad news for you.
The booting from the external USB CD/DVD drive is not possible. The BIOS don't support this functionality.
If you need to boot from the CD you will have to buy a new, compatible and supported internal CD/DVD drive.
Please note that not all slim line CD/DVD drives are supported due to the different master/slave/c-sel settings.
Usually the user manual should provide a information about supported CD/DVD drive.
If not, then ask the Toshiba authorized service provider for an compatible drive.

Setting up with external Drobo mini SSD RAID
I am getting a Drobo mini (connected through Thunderbolt) with 4 240GB SSD drives and setting it up with RAID 5, so I have three drives for data and one protection drive.
My goal is to set up my Late 2012 iMac (internal 1TB Fusion drive) so that when I migrate to the next system, I don't have to transfer all of my data from my internal drive as most of it will be on my external RAID box.
Ultimately, I would like to just have my internal drive with the OS and Applications if possible and then have all of the data (music, videos, photos, Office documents, mail, etc.) placed on my external Drobo. I know that iTunes library and some of the other apps I can easily set the data to be put on any drive (internal or external), but can all of the apps do this? I haven't seen that possible with iPhoto, Mail, etc.
Any suggestions would be helpful.I purchased the 256 GB M500 SSD's from Micron. If was going to make a recommendation on which SSDs to use, I've read that the fastest and most reliable are the Samsung 840 Pro. I've heard there are others that are approaching the same speed, but I got the Micron since they were less expensive and still faster than other brands.
Now, I did run a benchmark test between USB 3 and Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt 1 was twice as fast as USB 3 in the benchmark tests using the M500's SSD.
I'm still waiting for Drobo to get their software so I can make the Drobo mini a bootup device which their firmware doesn't support just yet.
Right now, I have it set up for backups and I have about 600+GB already used up.
I've owned this device for a few months now, and it was easy to setup and I don't have any complaints per se about it working. I'm just waiting for them to update the firmware so I can use it as a boot up device using Thunderbolt. I just downloaad a new firmware (second firmware update since I bought it in December 2013), but I don't know if this update allows it to boot up under Thunderbolt. I have to read up on what the latest update does. -
TCP/IP connection with external device
Hi,
I need establish TCP/IP connection to my hardware device which has ip(10.102.20.90) and port no as 9012 by setting static ip.
Since i am new to this protocol i am bit worried about how to make communication between my pc to hardware. Here my labwindow code act as clinet and hardware as server. after establishing successful connection i need to read the data coming out from that port.
Please help me in making this communication happens.
i am working on Labwindow 9.0 version.
Solved!
Go to Solution.A good starting point would be to look at the TCP/IP client sample application that ships with CVI. You'll find it at <CVI Folder>\samples\tcp\client.cws

Problem with external device and my new mac
I have a maxtor onetouch 200gb. I just bought an ibook G4, and when I connect my hard drive I recieve a message saying the device is not readable by this computer. I tried the device on a pc, and it still works. The device is fat32 formated, and as far as I know this should not cause any problems with mac. I also tried to download mac drivers for the device, but it still doesn't work.
Does anyone have something that can help me?Welcome to the Discussions.
If you need it formatted FAT32, reformat it on your Mac. Use MS-DOS (FAT32) as the file system. If you don't need it for both PC and Mac, format it HFS+ and you'll be able to use the Retrospect Express software that came with it on your Mac.

Siebel On Demand Intergration WiTh external device like CARD READER
Hi All,
Is there a possibility of SOD to interface with an external system like a card reader?
Thanks
NatrajWell interesting requirement but unfortunately Oracle SOD doesnot provide you any direct integration technique or tool for this, instead a custom WebService development would be required to make this happen.
Hope this Helps :)

In another topic recently someone told me to use better a fire wire disc rather than a USB one to nest my FC projects, but my computer have four USB ports and only one fire wire and is easier to find in store USB hubs than fire wire ones as well as HD's. Is this a mandatory rule to work with external devices in FC?
It is mandatory if you have a computer that doesn't offer secondary internal drive options. iMac, Laptops, MacMini...all require an external drive, because the only internal option is the system drive. MacPros have 3 additional drive bays for internal drives.
Yes, you need a secondary external drive to capture your media to, if you want to avoid dropped or skipped frames in your footage. Firewire is the bare minimum...USB is not reliable.
MANDATORY? No...if you don't mind missing frames or aborted captures, you can to it.

I can't sync my ipad mini with my windows 8.1 intunes. everything is most current update. Frustrated. Ipad shows up on computer like an external device.
Hi cdag144,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPad. I also apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly what you are seeing when you try to sync. If you are unable to sync because your iPad isn't showing up in iTunes at all (you mention it showing up as a device on the computer), you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

What's the easiest way to add storage to a mac mini. (1TB hard drive but only 32G of real storage). External device, internal or is there some way to partition? I tried doing so but received a message that there wasn't enough free space to partition. Seems like a 1TB drive should have more storage than my Ipad
Its worth confirming what free space you have on your drive:
go to: Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info > Storage
The bar chart shows how much free space there is on the drive:
Please realise that partitioning does not create extra space so this wont help you.
If your free space is less than 20 % you should get extra storage with an external USB or Firewire drive, any make or model will work. -
I could not pair my bluetooth device with my ipad mini retina display.

I'm not able to pair my iPad via Bluetooth with my Logitech mini-Boombox. I recently brought my iPad to the Apple Store for an unrelated problem, and they replaced it with a new device. The old device had no problem pairing with any of my Bluetooth devices. I'm only haveing the problem with my new device. I was able to pair it with my Apple wireless keyboard, but not the mini-Boombox. I think I've done everything that I've read in other forum posts: I've toggled the Bluetooth setting on and off; I've reset the iPad a couple times; I've turned off and on the mini-Boombox; I've recharged the mini-Boombox. What am I missing here, and how can I fix this?
