FCPX - Animation - Transform Position

I am trying to learn to do basic animation in FCPX. Here's what I did:
I am working with still images put to music. At a certain point in my video I brought in a small square image and put it on top of another larger image in the timeline. Then I clicked on the smaller image and chose Transform Position, made a keyframe by doing Option K, moved alone one second and did another keyframe and at that point moved the image from the center to the upper left corner. It works fine EXCEPT that immediately after the second keyframe it bounces back to the middle.
What did I do wrong?

just had a quick look and under the RMB when over the keyframe - select delete point
BUT you have to wait for the cursor to become a cross hair...

  • Problem animating 3D position change in Photoshop Extended CS6

    I am trying to animate  a simple 3D position change in Photoshop Extended CS6 (OS 10.7.4)
    Here's what I do:
    1. I move my object to its starting position.
    2. I move the Current Time Indicator ("playhead")  to the time I want the position change to start.
    3. I click the Time‑Vary stopwatch icon on the Position layer of the timeline, and a keyframe is automatically created, no problem.
    4. I move the playhead away from the initial keyframe to the time I want the position change to end.
    5. I move my object to its ending position.
    At this point, I expect to see the second keyframe be automatically created, as advertised, BUT it is not. What's more, if i move the playhead to "scrub" through the animation, I see no movement. What's happened is the position I set for Keyframe 1 has changed to the position I just moved the object to, which I intended to be Keyframe 2.
    Any advice greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Same problem here. I cant seem to get any predictable behaviour from the 3d camera in terms of adding keyframes. Other non-3d layers dont seem to be affected.

  • Animating x position via A.S.

    I have a gallery with a menu that is a row of
    thumbnails (horizontal--right to left). And a button
    on each side of the tumbnail menu---and of course when
    you click on the right button the menu scrolls to the
    right and vise-versa for the left button. The code I
    have on the buttons is pretty basic:
    right_btn.onRelease = function(){
    menu_01._x -= 20;
    I trying to set-up the menu so that when you click on one on
    the buttons
    the menu slides over so many pixels and eases out. And I also
    need the
    buttons to know when the menu mc has reached its end(say the
    menu is only 400
    pixels wide). I've tried a few different things with no luck.
    Any idea's or direction to a tutorial???
    I would really any help.
    thanks,
    hutch

    In the authoring environment, move the menu_01 all the way to
    the left and
    see what its x position is (e.g., - 200) then change your
    code to test the x
    position before moving it.
    right_btn.onRelease = function() {
    if (menu_01._x > -180) {
    menu_01._x -= 20;
    You should then do the same sort of thing from the opposite
    side.
    left_btn.onRelease = function() {
    if (menu_01._x < 180) {
    menu_01._x += 20;
    The numbers show are just for illustration; yours may differ
    depending on
    the size of the graphic or movie clip you are moving.
    If your image is very large, then the constant clicking to
    move 20 pixels
    may be frustrating for the user. There are other ways.

  • Animation: how can I move objects (and their transform keyframes)?

    Hi,
    I have created a project with a group of layers which all move (have transform keyframes set up).
    Now I want to move the group, but when I do this and then run the animation, the position of all the transform keyframes I have set up remain in the same place.
    Is there some way to move a group of objects and the location of their transform keyframes at the same time, or will I have to go through each keyframe and move them individually?
    Thanks!

    You need to get some understanding of HTML and CSS to know
    why building a
    web page is not like using a page layout program or even a
    word processor.
    Unfortunately that will require some effort on your part.
    You cannot just place things on the page in HTML - you need
    to build an HTML
    infrastructure to hold the elements you want to appear on the
    page, and to
    hold them in the location where you want them to appear. As a
    simple
    example, consider a 1 row by 2 column table, where each
    column is set to 50%
    width, and the table itself is 800px wide. An image placed
    into the second
    column will be located exactly 400px from the left margin of
    the page
    (assuming a) the image is less than 400px wide, b) the table
    has zero
    borders, cellspacing and cellpadding, and c) there is nothing
    wider than
    400px in the first column.
    Make sense?

  • How to reverse direction of title animation

    Friends,
    I just downloaded motion 5 to use with FCPX titles.  is it possible to use motion 5 to reverse the direction of a title animation?  For example, FCPX has a certain title is shown entering from the left.  I'd like it to enter from the right.  Can I make the switch?
    Thanks!
    Steve

    It looks like that one is animated by keyframes. In this case you could make the animation go right to left by reversing the keyframe order and then adjusting as needed.  You will need to do this with the Emitter and the Rectangle Mask.
    For the Mask:
    -Change the Mask Blend Mode to Subtract.
    -In the Inspector, go to the X Position and to the right of the keyframe indicator, click the downward facing arrow and select Show in keyframe editor from the contextual menu.
    -In the Keyframe editor, option click the checkbox next to the Transform.Position.X channel.  this will hide the other keyframes.
    -Select both the keyframes for the X channel.  While they are both selected right click on top of one of the keyframes and select Reverse Keyframes from the contextual menu.  This will reverse the animation direction for the Mask on the text.
    For the Emitter:
    Basicly, do the same thing as with the Mask.  Go to the keyframes for the X postion and reverse them.  In this case you will need to adjust the start and end postions. The first keyframe will need to be near the right side of the canvas, and the second keyframe will need to be further away.  Once you are close you can adjust the second keyframe to match the mask that wipes the text

  • Keyframing breaks animation parented across different comps

    Hi,
    My fist post here so please excuse me if it is incorrectly formatted.
    I am having a problem linking Null Object Controllers to precomps in my character rigs.
    Here is my setup.
    I have a character that I controlling his eyelids to make blink. He eye lids are in a composition for his head. His head is in the master character composition.
    The Null object to control the position of the eye lids are in the master composition.
    I have parented the position values of the eyelids inside the HEAD PRECOMP to the Null object's position in the MASTER CHARACTER COMP.
    Everything works fine until I try to keyframe the Null object where the animation no longer shows. I can see the null object moving but his eyelids do not close.
    It seems to be random as well. It works for his hands slider which is the position of a null parented to the time remap of his hands pre comp.
    I have no idea why this is happening and suddenly breaks the animations of my characters.
    It is the same with trying to animate the position of his pupils as well.
    So strange.
    My workaround which is frustrating is to bring all of the assets in to the master character comp and use the same method to control the eyes and eyelids and it works when everything is in the same comp.
    Here is an example of the expression.
    comp("Professional Guy 1").layer("C_EYELIDS").transform.position

    As Mylenium said there are just too many variables in your question to come up with any suggestion other than making sure that your expressions tie one comp to another. For example a Effect Control position slider in the MainComp can be tied to a layer in SubComp by referencing the MainComp in the expression added to the SubComp.
    You can build a series of expressions that replicate parenting behavior. Those expressions would work across comps, but you cannot simply parent a layer in one comp to a layer in another. These expressions could as easily point to transform properties of the null layer. What makes them work is the value + operator.
    A positioning expression that replicates the parenting behavior and allows key framing of both layers without having to re-position the child layer to correct alignment looks like this:
    ipw = comp("Comp 1").width/2;
    iph = comp("Comp 1"). height/2;
    ip = comp("Comp 1").layer("Null 1 controller").transform.position - [ipw, iph];
    np = value + ip

  • Transform Effect jumps around when Collapse Transformation is enabled

    I created a reflection on one of my vector based animated layers. Then decided to apply reflection with Transform effect.
    It all held true before I assigned "Collapse Transformation" and my Transform effect is going awry. Basically because there is zoom out with the camera and scale as well.
    Transformation's Anchor points and Distance are note keeping up with the movements and reflection is jumpint all over the place.
    Where should this Transformation effect be applied. On the first level when I created my PreComp1 with all the layers (and then PreComp1 is getting nested within other PreComps) or at the very end at the Final PreComp for render I should apply this effect.
    It seems to jump around in any case...

    I read the help, it states that Collapse Transormation buttons treats the PreComp as seprated layers, which preserved 3D treatiment for casting shadows and does not cut off shapes by PreComp size.
    It seems to work for me that I check continuosly rasterize on each individual illustrator imported layer (inside the PreComp1), so when I enlarge the shapes they stay crisp. Then I keep on checking Collapse transformations on all consequtive PreComps and everything stays sharp.
    My question is at what stage I would better apply Transform effect, which doesn't seem to work. Should it be on the PreComp1 layer with all the Continuoiusly rasterize enabled or on final Render Out PreComp where "Collapse Transformations" is checked off?
    In eather way because of movement of these illustrator layers, Transform position seems to be fixe on screen, but is not relevant to shape movement whithin the PreComp1.
    What previously worked for me was that I applied Transformation on each individual illustrator layer, however I did not enable "Collapse Transformations" in and consequtive PreComps. As soon as this feature is enabled everything goes awry....

  • Help with drop-in text animation

    Hi Folks,
    I'm trying to create a specific text animation, but I'm having a little difficulty.  I'd like to have the text drop in in a random order into its final spot.  I can get close using the text drop-in animation, but I'd really like the 'source' of the text dropping in to be from a single point.  Picture a watering can pouring the letters out and they randomly fall into their correct spot in a phrase. The default look of the drop-in animation is that each character drops from its corresponding spot in the phrase. I've played with changing the tracking, using the 'before' setting and managed to squeeze the space that the text is dropping from, but that causes the letter to appear to move after they've already landed.  You can see a rough draft here:  http://www.c2-it.com/clients/a/textdrop.mov
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get closer to what I'm looking for?
    Thanks,
    CJ

    Todd, thanks for the reference to the tutorials.  They helped me understand a little more how the animators work.
    Mylenium, I'm still a little confused on your approach.  I've got the base text layer and added an animator for opacity.  I set it for random and that works fine, the letters randomly appear and complete the phrase.  For the 'pouring in' part, I added a second text layer and animated the position property, but the text still originates from its original place in the phrase.  I can't get it to originate from a single point.  Also, I'm not even sure I understood about using multiple selectors for the 1st layer.  Just using the animator for opacity with a random setting seems to provide the correct 'ending' of the animation.
    Thanks Again,
    CJ

  • How can I get the position stream for a composition?

    I am writing an AEGP plugin for AfterFx and I need to get the position stream for a composition. I have based my plugin on ProjDumper.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Shachar,
    Many thanks, that goes some way to explain it.
    However I am creating a composition adding text layers to it and animating the positions of the individual text layers. Then I create a second composition and include the first as a nested composition and I animate the position of the first composition within the second composition.
    When I run my plugin I only see the animations I added to the individual text layers, they are not combined with the overall animation attached to the first compisition within the second composition.  The animation data for the first composition must be stored somewhere. Do you know where ?
    I have been looking at source items and markers neither seem to provide the information I am interested in. Any clues would be very helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Motion path changes gets larger when copied to Shape Position parameter

    Hello There,
    Richard Gerard has been helpful, and well as other people.
    I have sorta figured out how get a stroke to follow a motion path.
    I (so far) am unable to get a shape to follow the same motion path.
    My shape is a small ellipse commonly known as a circle!
    I have seen this post - http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/2/959085, which is interesting,
    but does not work.  My shape layer consists of name, "Blue Circle",  and two properties below that:
    Contents and Transform.  If i copy the path into the Transform-Position property the path is about 2
    times bigger than the path I want to use, and does not start at the correct spot.
    After reviewing the post above - I added a "path" to the ellipse in the "Contents" area, I can see the path, it is the correct size,
    but the circle does not follow this path.  If I try to copy this path to one of the position properties, no dice,
    the path completely displaces the shape to the wrong coordinates.
    I must be missing something basic here, but have yet to find out.
    Any tips will help.
    Thanks,
    eholz1

    The position path is offset because your Black Solid with the mask isn't in the default position. Both Anchor Point and Position must be reset. Parenting can also foul this up. Here's how to fix it.
    First of all, before you copy and paste the path remove parenting and return the solid with the mask to it's default position by resetting Anchoe Point and Position. Now when you paste the path to your Blue Ball it will exactly match the path on the solid layer. Once the path is set you can redo the parenting and reposition the layers but you must include the blue ball. If it were me I'd create a null and make that the parent of the Black Solid, the Blue Ball, and the Map. Now you can animate the position of the null to scroll across the map and the blue ball will follow.
    To match the timing of the stroke to the blue ball you simply drag out the right most diamond keyframe on the blue ball position until it matches the last position of the stroke.. That's all there is it. Your timeline should look something like this:
    One last question. You have a non-standard composition size. It may not render correctly. What is the reason for the odd size. NTSC D1 Widescreen should be 872 X 486, It's acceptable to also have a comp that's 872 X 480. MPEG compression requires an even number of pixels so your 853 dimension is very likely to cause problems or be automatically resized to a standard frame size.

  • Position Tweening Not Working

    Photoshop CS3. When I tween between frames in an animation with Position selected, the program dupes the first selected frame the number of times specified but does not tween the object's position. So if I specify five frames, I get five dupes of the first frame with no movement of the object towards its position in the target frame.
    The program does tween the Opaque option when that is selected.
    Oddly, the same problem occurs in both my Photoshop CS3 and my ImageReady CS.
    Could there be something in my computer that's preventing the Position tweening feature from working?
    Mac G4 866, 1GB RAM, OS 10.4.11.

    I did some position tweening in 2007 on Windows PS CS3 and had no problem. Now for the first time I'm trying it in Windows PS CS4 and I'm having exactly the problem you are!!!! I restarted PS and problem continued. I have no idea what else to try besides go find CS3 running somewhere. I'm using current rev, 11.0.2.

  • Animation does not work in Google Chrome

    I was using Chrome as my defualt for testing my Edge projects. At some point, I changed the way divs were stacked and animated the position of one of the divs and the animation never worked thereafter. That said, It works fine in Firefox and Safari. Anyone have any insights as to what could be the problem?
    Is there anything I can provide that will give better clarity to this issue?
    Here is a link to the project:

    Yes,
    The animation is not working on google chrome on my device.
    Could be because of publish setiings.

  • Simultaneous Animation?

    Is it possible within a UIKit animation block (not using Core Animation layers) to perform two simultaneous animations/transformations?
    For example, I would like to have an image view increase in size (scale) while at the same time spinning (rotate) e.g. like a spinning newspaper zooming out from the center of a screen. I know you can nest animation blocks, and within each block you can do a transformation but aren't those animations are performed in a linear fashion (scale, then rotate, instead of scale and rotate)?
    Thanks for any tips on how to do this.

    Well what I have done is made an implicit animation + explicit animation, but you should be able to add as many explicit animations to a layer as you want. Just declare them all and then add the animations to the layer, they should all happen at the same time. There's also an object called CAAnimationGroup which might be of interest to you

  • UIButton Animation inconsistent

    When I tried to animate moving a button from position A to position B.

    Could anyone help to answer what's the problem? How to make it animate consistently?
    Thank you!
    The following is my code:
    float speed=2.0;
