Fed up with MacBook problems

has anyone else tried to return their MacBook because of all of the problems ?
I've had mine for about 3 months, and frankly I'm ready to give it back to Apple.
Terrible heat issues, my LCD casing is bubbling, and now after the latest firmware update my fan runs at full speed constantly.
As a long time ThinkPad user, I'm really, really disappointed. I love using OS X but these problems are just too much.
Please help.
MacBook 2.0GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I took my MacBook into AppleCare for the LCD
bubbling. They had it for several days before finally
telling me to "hold off" for a while and bring it
back in later since it was covered under the
manufacturer warranty.
I hope you did jus that. It is covered, get it repaired.
Look, the heat output of this laptop alone almost
makes it unusable. But that plus now my fan runs all
the time and I'm at my wits end.
Did you install the SMC firmware? Mine was also hot and that helped a lot (-10°C). It could help for the fan too. If it doesn't work, have it repaired. If you have it repaired too many times, ask for an exchange.
As for the MB temperature, I would say that with the new firmware, you shouldn't get anything over 65°C, maybe even 60°C in normal use. Try CoreTempDuo or iNano to find out.

  • Fed up with battery problems

About a year ago I had to buy a new battery for my MacBook because the one I had had expanded so horribly it was causing the computer to not function properly. Apple refused to to help and I had to pay full price for the new battery.
Now the replacement battery is not working properly. Tech support has confirmed that the battery is obviously faulty. But since it was purchased 13 months ago they cannot help. Had it been within a year of the purchase they might be able to replace it. This is beyond frustrating.
    The battery info is:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 2763
    Fully charged: Yes
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 2763
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 108
    Condition: Check Battery
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 121
    Voltage (mV): 12586
It only holds a charge for about 40 minutes before the battery dies. Is there anything else I can do to try and improve the battery life?

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbook.html
But remember that batteries are considered "consumables" and there's a reason Apple doesn't warrant them for more than a year. All batteries die.
For what it's worth, I feel that if your first battery was expanding it should have been replaced for free. But I don't get to make that decision.

  • Happy with Macbook?

I know that, being a support forum, there's bound to be an overwhelming majority of people coming with Macbook problems, thereby scaring many of us potential buyers.
I was just wondering-who here has a problem free Macbook they are fully happy with? All you non-posters speak up here!

Count me among the happy MB buyers. joer1978 sums up my experience exactly.
I puchased the basic model at Amazon, got the $100 rebate, and used that to upgrade the RAM to 1G.
I've had it almost two weeks, been using it everyday, and haven't experienced any problems at all, and especially none of the ones that have been described here and other forums. I did purchase iKlear to keep it clean, which works great, but I haven't seen any discoloration, scratching or flaking. I love the shiny white color.
I get great battery life, especially for such a bright, sharp display. I also get great WiFi reception as compared to my older Dell D800. Outside, in direct sunlight, the MB has a nicer display than the Dell D800.
I've installed BootCamp for the few Windows apps I want to run, and it has also perfomed as well as possible with Windows But, we have Mac MS Office 2004 (which runs fine), so I rarely have a need for Windows.
I would tell potential buyers not to worry so much about what they hear. Like all electronic devices, there are going to be some problems, and that's what these forums are for. So, naturally, you're going to hear more problems looking through here.
Heat hasn't been an issue for me. As an old laptop user, I know all laptops run hot to some degree. I monitored mine for a few days... it was a little on the high side, close to what others reported. But, that's actual CPU temperature and it's still lower than the high end threshold for that chip. As the enclosures get smaller, the heat has to go somewhere. I'll take the thinner and smaller case over a slightly cooler laptop. It's on my lap as I type this, and I've been working for about an hour, moving every 10-15 minutes just to change positions, not because I was on fire
I'm converting our office to total Macintosh. Each computer we've purchased from Apple, from a G5 Tower to several G4 and Intel Minis, to now this MacBook; each one has worked right out of the box, with no issues. Makes my job easy, I plug them in, and they JUST work!
I will say our first experience was bad. We left the Mac platform in 1992, after the IIfx computer. Our return back to OSX was with a Powermac G5 Single 1.8G model. It was one of the infamous late 1.8G models that had random, and often, system freezes. It was totally unusable. After about a month in the closest Apple repair store, working nicely with Apple, they replaced it with a Dual 2.0GHz model. We just wanted a working computer, but they went the extra effort to give us a great machine that we're still using today, 24/7, with no problems. And, it's paid off back to Apple, since now, we are replacing each of our PCs with Macs.
For those that are having problems, just work nicely with your support techs. Document the problem and show evidence through logs, etc. Also, try to duplicate it if you're able to get to a Genius bar.
Hope this helps anyone that is getting worried about purchasing a MacBook. I traded in my Dell D800 to get this, and have no regrets!! It is one sweet, little machine!

  • I am fed up with Spring and Apple passing me off to one another and neither will fix the problem. I am unable to receive a connection on my phone.

I am fed up with Spring and Apple passing me off to one another and neither will fix the problem. I am unable to receive a connection on my phone.
The internet goes out and I have to reset network setting each and every time. This is only a temporary solution which by the time I release the line with Spring or leave the apple store the issue is back. Sprint indicates that it is a know issue with the Iphone 5 and apple says it is a network issue as Sprint's network is not up to par with the Iphone and can not meet the expectations on the Iphone 5.
I have attached a few picture, as you can see it clearly says I have 5 bars and 3g available but I have no connections what so ever.
This issue affects all data and so I can not send or receive picture messages, use apps, or access the internet. The data goes in and out intermittently and it seems the phone chooses what I can and can't do.
For example I can watch Youtube or Vevo videos but I can not access Facebook or Instagram.
Is anyone else having this issue?
I will soon loose my patience....
I have reset my phone three time and have reset network and other setting mutltiple times.

  • I bougt a new  Macbook pro in 02/26/2013, in  11/25/ 2013, my trackpad become bulging, they exchange the trackpad, but not the bulging battery.  I went there yesterday, with different problem, and they said one screw  came off from the  truckpad again!

I bought a new  Macbook pro in 02/26/2013 from Apple Canadian Ices -003.  Than I could not use it, because  my cursor uncontrollably  was jumping around the screen, I was  resumed my trackpad become bulging, Than on11/25/ 2013 they changed my trackpad for free, because was manufactoring defect,  but not the bulging battery.  They said that is do not needed.  Since that my cursor is quiet often quivering, I think my Macbook has serious  manufacturing defect. But they said no, during a year period I went to  the genius bar at least 15 times, with this and similar problems.   I went there yesterday, with different problems, and they said one of the screws  came off from my   truck pad, therefore they need to fix it and change it.  I said: -  What,  how, what  is the real problem?  A screw does not comes off just like that?  They will change my trackpad again, but not the battery. They said  has to rebuild the operation system, I'm  saving all of my data right now! I would like to exchange the battery too, or maybe get a new Macbook. My Macbook is 2010 China model. How long I would have this trackpad  problem? What are you suggesting?

If it's a 2010 as you say towards the end of your post, it's out of warranty. The battery isn't covered in that case. Why don't you just buy a new battery if that's your concern? If it's a 2013 as you say up at the top, it shouldn't have a bulging battery. How do you know it does? If it really does, ask for the store manager and explain the problem.

Firstly, I can't open iPhoto on my macbook as of a few days and could it have anything to do with a problem I have updating my iPhone's software as I've downloaded extra iCloud storage but I still can't get the iPhone to recognise the space for software

No. With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
For the iPhone issue ask in the iPhone forum.

Yes, you have WD software installed  REMOVE IT !!
WD has warned its customers about their huge mistake that their software doesnt work on Mavericks and causes data loss.
(also dont use WD drives anymore)

  • Documents created on my iPhone or iPad go into iCloud with no problem.  Why can't I get the documents created on my MacBook Pro to go into iCloud?

Documents created on my iPhone or iPad go into iCloud with no problem and I can then access those documents from any of my "toys".  However, documents created on my MacBook Pro do not go into iCloud, and as such, they are not accessable from my iPhone or iPad.  How can I get the documents created on my MacBook Pro to go into the cloud?

    Reset iCloud sync state
    On Mac:
    Close open applications
    Open a Finder window
Choose “Go to Folder…” from the “Go” menu
    Enter “~/Library/Application Support/”
Find the folder named “Ubiquity” and move it to the Trash

  • Time Capsule works with MacBook Pro (Mavericks) but not with IOS devices?  recent problem starting March 1, 2015.

I have a Time Capsule version 7.7.3 (model A1470) which has worked fine for almost 2 years with all devices, Apple and otherwise.  As of beginning of this month, March 2015 - no longer works with a new IPAD mini 3 and 6-month old iPhone 6 (both updated as of last night) BUT still works fine with MacBook Pro (Mavericks 10.9.5) and Epson printer XP-600.
On both IOS devices Airport Utility shows the Time Capsule and shows green light connection to internet, but never does the connection. The little status circle just keeps going round and never shows the Wifi rainbow symbol. both devices work fine on other Wifi's.  Airport Utility on iPhone actually connects enough to check on Airport base station's firmware 7.7.3 and says it is up to date!  but sadly stays on LTE.
    Have tried resetting, replugging etc...
Also, tried checking on updates.  Nothing shows in Airport Utility. When I try to go to see past updates ~/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort/Firmware to see if updated, there is no Airport in the Apple folder?
    A mystery...

Reset the TC to factory and redo the setup. see details below.
Here is the typical list of things you should try.. and if this doesn't help post again.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer or perhaps it is better using iOS on the phone or ipad currently having issues.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round. For iOS the fixed channels particularly for 2.4ghz has helped.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue. This is a problem for a TC in bridge mode.
If this is of no help.. what modem do you have? What function other than modem does it have.. ie none or router??
How is the TC connected into the network? What function does it have? Router or bridge for example.
Post a few screenshots of the setup.

  • MacBook problems with Snow base station - other laptops work fine

    Hi,
I just purchased a new MacBook to replace an iBook G4 800.
My snow base station works fine with the old iBook G4 (which has an extreme card) and with a borrowed PowerBook G4 Aluminum 1.5 GHz (also extreme card) but will not work with my new Mac Book. Every time I try to connect - I receive an error "There has been an error accessing "my name" 's network. Sometimes it will connect, other times (most of the time), it will not.
My MacBook connects fine to my neighbors Linksys access points and our work Lucent access points (which are b also - snow is b).
I did a search and am reading other people having similiar problems. I was wondering if anyone has resolved their problems. I spent 2 plus hours on the phone with Apple yesterday. They are placing the blame on the older base station (snow) but it is obvious that snow is working fine for other computers.
    Theresa

I am still a little confused. I can be 2 feet from my base station and will keep hitting "try again" when trying to access my network and will get "an error has occurred" many times and eventually it will connect and I will have an incredibly strong signal. My MacBook will continue to have a great strong signal until it goes to sleep and then I will have a difficult time connecting again. My neighbors base station is a weak signal and I can easily join their network. Every time I connect, I have problems but once connected, it is great.
I guess it can be interference but I am now wondering if it is related to the snow/graphite base station only. This laptop has no problems joining other b base stations.
I spent hours on the phone with an Apple wireless support specialist the other night. He wants me to try an Extreme base station. He didn't indicate that he was aware of any MacBook problems (and he mentioned interference and we setup my laptop to only join my network and it didn't make a difference).
More to come.... IF anyone switched to a Extreme Base Station and that worked fine - please let me know. Though I sort of resent having a functional b base station that works with every other laptop and have to spend $200 towards another base station because of a new laptop.
