Felix Console vs filesystem

There is a note in Adobe docs that I see being repeated at few places.  So want to confirm my understanding. Here is the note in Adobe docs -
Start of note
Saving configuration directly via the Felix Console is stored in the filesystem, not in the repository. This is also the case if a repository-based configuration is modified via the Felix Console: these changes are not saved back into the repository and will not be applied on the next restart of the system.
End of note
Here is the deal - I had configured Day CQ Mail Service through Felix console. It is being used for workflow notification. Since I did it via Felix Console, once I restarted the local instance, I was expecting that the config information will be lost. The config setting for mail service are still there. Here are my questions.
1. So which changes are not saved into the repository and which ones are saved?  When does the configuration changes from Felix get lost?
2.  When they refer to 'changes saved in filesystem only' are they refering to for e.g. in my setup - C:\cq5\author\crx-quickstart ?  In my setup, cq-5.5.0-author-p4502 is located under C:\cq5\author. There is repository, conf and other directories under C:\cq5\author\crx-quickstart. Is it refering to these directory structure when mentioning filesystem?
Thanks!

What version of CQ are you using ? I just created a Blog entry for managing configuration http://www.wemblog.com/2012/10/how-to-work-with-configurations-in-cq.html hopefully it will help.

  • After changing the context path, felix console, I can not checkout content via vlt.

    Hi everyone,
I have the following issue. After changing the context path, via felix console, I can not checkout the content via vlt. Before that, I could checkout without any problems.
    I am using CQ5.5, CRX2.3, context path: /Test
That is what I am trying:
    vlt -v --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test/server/crx.default
Connecting via JCR remoting to http://localhost:23310/Test/server
[WARN ] Authentication required to access repository descriptors
[ERROR] checkout: com.day.jcr.vault.vlt.VltException: Unable to mount filesystem
    caused by: javax.jcr.ItemNotFoundException: Not Found
    caused by: org.apache.jackrabbit.webdav.DavException: Not Found
    Other versions I tried:
    vlt -v --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/crx
    vlt --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test/server
    vlt --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test
    vlt --credentials admin:admin co http://localhost:23310/Test/crx
To verify if I could connect to the instance properly I started CRXDE
and try to connect to "http://localhost:23310/Test"
After click the ok button I got that error:

The VLT works fine with the above URL change but How to fix "CRXDE" Initialization error if a context path is defined?
I have a context path defined /Test and when I am trying to login to CRXDE with URL as http://localhost:4502/Test, I am getting below Initialization Error.

  • CRX DE bundle not deploying to Felix Console

    Hi,
I'm building a Bundle using CRX DE (not LITE).  It builds OK, but doesn't get installed automatically to the Felix console.
If I export the jar, I can import it manually OK.  Is there anything it needs to deploy automatically?  Anything I should check?
    Thanks,

OK - I think I solved my problem.
My project did not have an install folder in the location:
    /apps/myproject/install
instead, CRXDE was creating the jar in the location:
    /apps/myproject/src/com.myproject.MyBundle/install
When I created the install in the project root, and recreated my Bundle, it worked fine.
    Thanks!

You might be importing the wrong ComponentContext if you're using one in your activate method's signature.  CRXDE gives errors with no explanation in that case.  Ensure that you have:
    import org.osgi.service.component.ComponentContext;
as there are a couple of other ComponentContext classes and the class from the osgi package may not be the default chosen by CRXDE when imports are auto-populated.

    Hi Manoj,
You can do it directly from felix console. just go to http://<host>:<port>/system/console/slinglog there you will see all log files. under first table "Log Level" you will see all the log files and besides to that you will have configuration option, just go there and set log level for each of log files and save it.
Let me know if you need more information.
    Thanks,

    Regards,
    Anderson

    Hi Pawan,
Thanks for your information. It was problem with my pom.xml It started to work after changing my POM.xml
I am not able to get sling service for TestServiceImpl. But I am only able to create TestService which is my interface. I need to get reference for TestServiceImpl class not for TestService interface. Please help me to make it.
i have created TestServiceImpl and TestService class for testing whether my bubdle is crating all the folder structure or not.
But my requirement is like assume class A has some methods like getMenuLink, setMenuLink.. And In class B i am calling some methods in class A and doing some manipulation in createLink method.
Here class B does not have any interface. Not implementing  any interface. But I need to get class B refererence via sling.getService.
I know that if we are using maven SCR plugin..we need to have @component, @service. And All java classes are not services. Will it work if I add activate, deactivate method in class B?
Could you please tell me how to proceed next?
    Thanks,

  • Apache Sling Logging Writer Configuration

    Hi,
I'm having an issue where my custom log writer configuration is not being picked up and used by CQ5 sometimes.  I've created a custom error log writer based on the example provided at http://helpx.adobe.com/cq/kb/HowToRotateRequestAndAccessLog.html which I've installed on an author, replicated it to the publishers, and all seemed ok and working correctly.  The settings are:
    Log File: ../logs/error.log
    Number of Log Files: 5
    Log File Threshold: 200MB
After installing this, the error logs rotated at 200MB resulting in error.log.0, error.log.1 etc as expected.
However after rebuilds on the machines, this configuration was overwritten (as expected).  So I've installed and replicated the package again, but now the configuration is not taking effect.  I'm using the exact same config package as I was previously, but the logs don't seem to be rotating at all now (not even daily).  I've deleted the config from the Felix console on all authors and publishers, reinstalled on the authors, replicated to the publishers, then restarted the CQ5 service on all machines, but it's still not working.
So I have a couple of questions about this:
Is there somewhere else in CQ5 that might be overriding these log writer config settings?
Is ../logs/error.log correct for the standard log file location?  A note in step 3 of Creating Your Own Loggers and Writers on http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/current/deploying/configure_logging.html states:
Log writer paths are relative to the crx-quickstart/launchpad location.
Therefore, a log file specified as logs/thelog.log writes to crx-quickstart/launchpad/logs/thelog.log.
To write to the folder crx-quickstart/logs the path must be prefixed with ../ (as../logs/thelog.log).
So a log file specified as ../logs/thelog.log writes to crx-quickstart/logs/thelog.log.
The configs in the log rotation example also use ../logs.  However when looking at the default/standard logging writer config, it uses logs/error.log.  Which one is correct?
Any help on what's going on here would be appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    K

    Hi,
I am answering your last question and this one here only.
    1. Log configuration can be override at project via creating config and overriding factory "org.apache.sling.commons.log.LogManager.factory.config-<identifier>" and writer (if required) "org.apache.sling.commons.log.LogManager.factory.writer-<identifier>". So plz check if you have configure log at project level. Now if you are not able to see then plz recheck you log configuration in felix console http://localhost:4502/system/console/slinglog here you can see entire log configuration for CQ system.
    2. both will work but the location will change
         i. CQ 5.5 - log file located under "crx-quickstart" ../logs/<filename>.log will create under this
ii. CQ 5.4 - logs creates under "crx-quickstart\logs" also under "crx-quickstart\launchpad\logs" so if you select ../logs/ it will go under "crx-quickstart\logs" only but you can change wherever you want to store. Again you can see this configuration info at http://localhost:4502/system/console/slinglog
    3. You can also customize you log via creating at project level and assigning the "identifire" (with all other configure parameters) for more information you can refer http://sling.apache.org/site/logging.html apart from earlier share links.
I hope above will help you to proceed. Please let me know for more information.
    Thanks,
    Pawan

  • Apache Sling JCR Resource Resolver doesn't work for the anchor tags which is been rendered through j

Certainly I realized that Apache Sling JCR Resource Resolver doesn't work for the anchor tags which is been rendered through jquery or javascript.
    e.g.
In Felix Console , in Apache Sling JCR Resource Resolver configuration I have added following mapping.
    /content/myproject/-/
So If any anchor tag is there like <a href="/content/myproject/en.html"> click me </a> then it will be mapped to "/en.html" automatically.
But the problem is there in following scenario.
I have an anchor tag as follows.
    <a href="#" id="test"> click here </a>
And I am assigning the href to anchor through JQUERY.
    <script>
    $("#test").attr("href","/content/myproject/en.html");
    </script>
Ideally this should have been mapped to "/en.html".
But it is not mapping to "/en.html". It still shows "/content/myproject/en.html".
    How to resolve this.
    Thanks,
    Sai

In a servlet you have access to the resourceResolver so if you know which attributes contain links then it's relatively easy to apply resourceResolver.map to those links.
Your challenge is clearly how do you know which attributes are links and which aren't. Its is the same challenge that makes parsing the response and rewriting it on the way out difficult - the JSON doesn't have any semantic meaning so how do identify which attributes require rewriting. There really is no good answer ot that question in my experience - all the options have down sides.
Create some convention - all attributes matching this pattern X get mapped before being converted to JSON (could be attributes whose name ends in link, or it could a convention applied to the value of the attribute - if the attribute is a string that starts with /content apply the resource resolver mapping. In this case you have train your developers to follow this convention which is the down side.
Create some configurable list of attribute names that require mapping. This is brittle, requires training and is easy to break.
Implement a client side version of the resource resolver mapping. It wouldn't be as full proof as server side mapping (because that takes into account but you could make it work for simple logic like stripping of /content/site/en. If ou are just trying to solve the simple version of this issue - stripping off the top of the repository path this might be your best option.
Not worry about it and set up Apache 301 redirects that catch any long URLs and redirect them to short URLs (so configure apache to look for any URL matching /content/site/en and strip off /content/site/en and do a 301 redirect to the shortened URL. You end up with a lot of extra HTTP request because of all the 301s but it would work (I wouldn't recommend this option - but it is possible).

  • Run form in debug mode with windows vista

    hi guys
    plz help me
i'm using oracle forms 10g r2 on windows vista home primume and everything is ok but
when i need to run any form in debug mode i get the following
the jvm 1.4 give me jvm is aborting after that
the oc4j give me the following error frm-92101 there was a failure in the form server during start up
    thanks

    Hi Manoj,
You can do it directly from felix console. just go to http://<host>:<port>/system/console/slinglog there you will see all log files. under first table "Log Level" you will see all the log files and besides to that you will have configuration option, just go there and set log level for each of log files and save it.
Let me know if you need more information.

  • Issue with unbinding of configurations from old jars

    Hi,
We have a setup where we deploy some of the business services and configurations (Java code) into CQ5 so that they can be managed through Apache console.
We are facing a problem where if we deploy a new version of the jar, the configurations still continue to get binded with the old version of the jar and we need manually unbind and bind the configurations.
We have tried the following but in vain:
Deleting the old jars from /apps/<application name>/install folder.
Deleting the bundles from the Apache console and deploying the new jars
Please note that we do not have any custom activators for the bundles, but rather rely on OSGi dependency management to start up the services and configurations.
What I wanted to check with the group is if someone has faced a similar issue and if you are aware of the resolution for the same.
    Ashish

    Hello Ashish,
Ideally you should not require to do that. But some points as suggestion
    1. When you build the bundle does it says your deployment is successful because it may happen that it built but not deployed, for that just check your error.log also for each deployment console update corresponding log information in error.log only.
    2. also check the last modification time for your bundle deployed in felix console under "bundles" tab.
As yogesh suggested managing service configuration through osgiConfig is better approach as it give you flexibility (no hot deployment for each changes) and helps you to manage services better.
    Thanks,

  • Sling mapping issue with Query String

For a button component, URL behaves differently with query string. Please let me know the sling mapping example for query string.
    Button component behavior across env:-
    Working Scenario:-
    - In Author edit mode, URL pointing to "/content/<websitelink>"
    - In Author preview mode shows URL "<host>:<port>/content/<websitelink>.html"
    - In Publisher mode shows URL, "<host>:<port>/<websitelink>", we do not want "/content" before website link so it is fine.
    Failure Scenario with query string:-
    - In Author edit mode URL pointing to "/content/<websitelink>?username=han"
    - In Author preview mode with URL "<host>:<port>/content/<websitelink>?username=han"
    - In Publisher mode, <host>:<port>/content/<websitelink>?username=han - Here we see the content, which is not acceptable in our scenario.
Please let me know the mapping changes when we have a URL with query string.

    1) I assume you configure as per the rules mentioned in http://sling.apache.org/site/mappings-for-resource-resolution.html --> 'Mapping Entry Specification' under /etc/map. Based on the configuration in /etc/map and the website that we publish, it translates and shows all the applicable combination in the Felix console http://<host>:<port>/system/console/jcrresolver.
    2) How does Adobe CQ 5.4 resolve the right mapping, if we have multiple map folder like below in /etc directory with the same website with different rules.
    etc/map --> http --> <website> with property sling:match, sling:internalRedirect
    etc/map.publish --> http --> <website> with property sling:match, sling:internalRedirect
    etc/map.publish-stag --> http --> <website> with property sling:match, sling:internalRedirect
    Kindly clarify.

  • Pages not displaying properly in Publisher instances as we activated the page from Author

    HI All,
Pages not displaying properly in Publisher instances as we activated the page from Author. In author it is working well but in Pulisher it is showing first 2 lines of the page and then showing error as
Apache sling/2.2 Hot Spot ****** Sun OS error
Please help me on this.IS this issue with the templates or components are we using?

Ok, then let's go the long way and try to reduce the number of possible root causes:
    1) Is your problem reproducible on this publish? (I suppose it is)
    2) Is it reproducible on other publishs as well, which have received the same page with the same application?
    3) Can you reproduce it on other replicated pages as well?
    4) When you upload a page to such an affected publish via a content package, does this page render correctly?
    5) Does this problem appear on other environments as well?
    6) Do you use dispatcher when you get this result? Or do you get it when you request the page directly of CQ5?
    7) What's the HTTP statuscode when you render this page? You can see it in the request.log of CQ5.
If you change logging via Felix Console, you don't need to restart the instance.
    kind regards,
    Jörg

  • CRX/DE failing on Publish nodes with 404 for JSON data

I'm in the process of rebuilding our author and publish staging instances using the 2.1 service pack for CQ5.5, and now I'm seeing problems with CRX/DE on both publish nodes on two difference machines.
We get this error whenever we try to pull up CRX/DE on these two nodes:
    11.03.2013 13:18:40.222 *INFO* [12.104.103.30 [1363022320201] GET /crx/server/crx.default/jcr%3aroot/.1.json HTTP/1.1] org.apache.sling.engine.impl.SlingRequestProcessorImpl service: Resource /crx/server/crx.default/jcr:root/.1.json not found
The app works fine on the author node, and the websites themselves still appear to serve correctly from the publish instances.
The odd thing is that, after I saw this problem, I wiped both publish instances and restored from a backup I had made this morning and restarted them to find that the problem persists.
Any thoughts?  I had thought myself done with this process until this issue appearing suddenly.  At the time I was rebuilding bundles on the Author node after having installed an updated content package and replicating it to the publish nodes.  I was attempting to rebuild the bundles on the Publish nodes when I saw the CRX/DE problem.

    Hi,
It seems to be access issue to me even though you have logged in as admin. To confirm this do the below.
    1. Open a browser and log in to your author instance using admin rights.
    2. Now using same browser now access http://localhost:4502/crx/server/crx.default/jcr:root/.1.json which is actually request to access jcr respository. When you access this link you will see the proper JSON response return.
    Now
    1. Open another browser (not same as above because above browser does have your cq session) and just access http://localhost:4502/crx/server/crx.default/jcr:root/.1.json you will see a 404 because anonymous user doesnt have access to it.
If above is true then plz try to look at your permissioning for jcr:root ("/") and if it looks good then check for authorization bundles status in felix console and check logs.
Also try to access crx explorer, if you can see the hierarchy http://<host>:<port>/crx/explorer/browser/index.jsp
    Thanks,
    Pawan

  • SOLVED: "AuthenticationSupport service missing. Cannot authenticate request."

A customer was installing CQ5 on a Red Hat Linux environment, and getting the following error displaying in the browser.
AuthenticationSupport service missing. Cannot authenticate request.
We checked the Felix Console, and all bundles were installed correctly.
We did however find the following message in the error log:
20.06.2012 10:49:26.689 *ERROR* [FelixStartLevel] org.apache.jackrabbit.core.RepositoryImpl failed to start Repository: Unable to register data store in cluster. javax.jcr.RepositoryException: Unable to register data store in cluster.
    Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException: {server name}: {server name}
This was not a clustered instance.
On closer inspection, the error was caused by an incorrect IP address entry for {server name} in the hostnames file
    Tim Goodman

    Hello Mkiti,
I take a look there and my host file only contains comments :s
        Heres the content:
    # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    # For example:
    #      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
    #       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host
    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    #    127.0.0.1       localhost
    #    ::1             localhost
The error only happen after I install the CQ5 update fix, from package share. I just renamed the crx-quickstart folder, the CQ create a new one and works, but my projects still in the old quickstart :s Is there a way to physically copy these projects, maybe?

  • How to invoke Java class from post.POST.jsp

    Hi All,
I am trying to invoke a simple java method from post.POST.jsp
I am getting below exception while doing it.
org.apache.sling.api.scripting.ScriptEvaluationException: org.apache.sling.scripting.jsp.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP:

It appears to resolve the class correctly. I could run the code, if I only comment  dsUtil.test();. As soon as I uncomment, it gives above error.
In the Utill I have a simple void method which will print a simple text. My package structure is as follows.
    any help will be great
    Tx

    1.  In the interface [1] not the implementation[2] have u defined the method test?
    2.  If it is implemented, Change the bundle version in bnd file and make a new build. Then from felix console verify the latest version reflected in the bundles.
If 2 works & you are going to make lot of frequent changes then give the version as snapshot till it get stable.
