Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode''
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Thank you.

Please help! Safari keeps hanging/not responding and freezes everything else up.
I've got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and Safari (5.1.9) keeps hanging/crashing. I'm afraid I'm not very good with these things so I'll just have to tell the story...
It's happening when I start up Safari, either the home page (Google) doesn't fully load and the pinwheel appears, or it loads but as soon as I try to search or use bookmarks the pinwheel appears. I'm unable to quit Safari, open or close Finder or any software, and it won't shut down normally either. I've tried using Cmd-Option-Esc to Force Quit but the pinwheel appears again and nothing happens. The only option left is to do a hard shut down. After repeating this 5 or 6 times it eventually lets me use Safari, but will almost always hang again unexpectedly at some point during the day. I know this isn't the best way to deal with it but I don't know what else to do!
I'm sorry if this question has already been asked and answered, but because I don't have an error report I don't know whether my issue is the same and don't want to start messing with things when I'm not sure what I'm doing. Thanks in advance for your help!
P.S. The unexpected hanging and freezing started while I was running Leopard and an older version of Safari. I tried to back up and reinstall the OS but my optical disk drive wouldn't read the disk, so I had to take it to an Apple store where they couldn't find anything wrong but installed Snow Leopard and hoped that fixed the problem. It didn't, and it's since started happening on start up, as described above.Open Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then click Verify Disk.
If the disk needs repairing, you will need to use the install disc(s) that came with your Mac.

Every time Firefox opened
== weeks agoIt's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone. -
I have a Motorola Surfboard connected to a Airport via ethernet and I am having trouble connecting to the internet using Safari. I have a Powerbook G4 and sometimes it will not load. Where should I begin to look? I have cable tv, and the modem says it's fine, the Airport is showing a green light, but lately it's been acting very funny! Sometimes, I try to connect to Safari, and it says you are not connected to the internet......when I re-load it, I just get a spinning circle. Where should I start? I asked a friend, and he thinks Comcast is "throttling" my connection. He doesn't think it's a hardware issue at all....
As a side note: I just ordered a Time Capsule (2nd gen) and would like to know if it's necessary to upgrade my modem to increase the speed. Will my old Powerbook G4 even be able to connect to it? I am running 10.5.8. My apple tv is somewhat slow too. When watching a podcast, it is very slow to load the podcast. I am kind of confused. Is it the modem, Airport, or my computer!!?? Maybe the airport card IN my laptop is going bad?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out! I can't wait to get my new Time Capsule!Hi and welcome to Apple Discussions
Sometimes DNS codes from an Internet Provider prove somewhat inefficient for Safari 4, creating slow page loading. Usually, this can be remedied by adding other DNS server codes to your Network settings.
To add the codes, go to System Preferences>Network. Click on your internet connection - either Ethernet or Airport, then "advanced". In the DNS panel enter on separate lines the following OpenDNS codes: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. Select "OK", then "apply".
In the Network panel, if Ethernet or Airport (whichever you use) is not at the top of the list, click on the "gear icon" at the left bottom. Select "set service order". When the help box opens drag your connection type to the top of the list. Select "apply" when complete
Now restart Safari. -
My home button does not respond most of the time. Is this a hardware failure?
I've had quite a bit of difficulty with getting my home button to respond. Sometimes, the only way to get back to the home screen is to do a hard reset. I constantly close any open apps, thinking that this might be the problem (memory issue).
Hoping you can help!

AnthonyA frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is the service being blocked on the network. Make sure your network isn't hidden, has a unique name, that MAC address authentication is disabled, security is set to use WPA 2 Personal and that there is only one router/device acting as a DHCP server and providing NAT services.
Make sure your router/computer allows access over the following ports

Refer to your router manual/manufacturer for any settings that are specific to that model.
Another frequent cause of consistent failure to enable AirPlay or HomeSharing at all, is security software, in many cases configuring it correctly, disabling it or even uninstalling it can help, but in some cases the security software can cause problems that simply reconfiguring, disabling or uninstalling cannot reverse.
If you are consistently unable to activate AirPlay, have tried all the steps in this article and have security software installed on your system, you might benefit from contacting its provider or participating in any online forums they run to discuss the matter with them. -
My numbers keeps "hanging" / "not responding" - Is anyone else having this problem?
I really would like to use as many native mac programs as I can, but I'm starting to think Microsoft is providing a more stable product in this regard (which I know is hard to believe!). Please Apple, my system has been getting progressively slower in the last few months and I can't help thinking it's because of something that's going on behind the scenes. I'm running a 2.53Ghz I5 with 4GB of RAM, which I believe should be fine for the type of work I do (ie documents and presentations and mail and the like).
As far as I know, iWork applications were always snails.
I didn't noticed speed changes in the late 10.6 versions.
With 10.7, the new features, Autosave and Versions, add an important use of the processors which clearly slow the apps.
I assume that we will have to wait until the next major update (iWork '10 or '12) to get apps really optimized for this operating system.

TB "not responding" most of the time.
Windows 8, i-7 16 GB RAM. McAfee fixed settings but same problem. No difference in Safe Mode. I deleted the global data and tried all other TB site recommendations but still no change. I do have a fair amount of emails in archives. Not sure if this makes a difference.
Please help. The first port of call is windows safe mode with networking. Not only does this disable McAfee it also disables a range of other tools and products and leaves you with basically just Thunderbird running. If there is no improvement in that mode, restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled from the help menu. Now you have windows pared down to almost nothing and Thunderbird in a similar situation. Hopefully at that point normal Thunderbird activity should surface. Suggestions as to cause really depend on your results.
Thunderbird safe mode it almost always an add-on but it is a case of identifying it through repeated enabling and disabling of add-ons. At one stage Lightning was causing slowness. There is a security key technology used by the US military that must be reinstalled after Thunderbird or Thunderbird crashes. -
When i start Firefox it either
1) crashes, no crash message displayed. just closes as if nothing happened.
2) freezes, doesn't respond to anything and i have to "kill" it with task manager because if it froze and i try to click elsewhere like to show desktop or on another task it freezes the entire computer. It freezes in 3 ways:
1) is when i just opened it and it freezes immediately
2) when i click on it, or start typing some address into the bar
3) when i press enter after I've typed the URL in the address bar.
my Firefox doesn't have any add-ons, or anything else. i already re-installed it 2 times, cleared cache, history, reset all settings. still crashesTry to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps. -
After cleaning my MacBook Pro with a alcohol cloth (same ones sold for use to clean eye glasses), the keys are not working when I try to log in with my main/usual name & passwd. BUT, I clicked on a button below that says "Sign in as a different user?" SO I CLICK IT, and it clears out my default username and allows me to type another user ID and Password...and works. So I know that I haven't broke the keyboard...but I've obviously set it into a select mode by pushing on the 'fn' or 'cmd' or 'F2-F12' keys.
If anyone is aware of a game mode or other kind of mode and know how to fix this, I would be greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
CJHi,
Back up everything. Start up in Recovery Mode by holding down Command and R keys together on startup.
Choose Disk Utility and then Verify and Repair disk. Also Repair Permissions. Quit Recovery Mode and Restart.
If nothing has improved, you may need to Restore or Reinstall OS X.
Before doing that, check your battery condition in About This Mac > System Report > Power.
If it is normal, you can go ahead with the restore or reinstall.
