FF plugin checking reports java applet plugin vulnerable on OS X Lion but not Snow Leopard?

On Firefox 10.0.1 running on OS X 10.7.3, the mozilla.org plugincheck tells me that my Java Applet Plug-in is Vulnerable while running the same check on FF 10.0.1 on my Mini running 10.6.8 indicates that the Java Plu-in 2 for NPAPI Browsers is ok. The version of Java on both systems is the same (version 1.6.0.29). Why the discrepancy? Is there something I need to fix on the 10.7.3 system?

No because Java on OS X comes from Apple, not Oracle and is updated whenever Apple gets around to it.

    Which settings are you checking, you should be checking settings > store

  • I am trying to use an education program that needs Java applets to install and use and it will not use Safari. When I download IE from the web it will not install. How can I get a browser that will work on my MacAir for travel use of this program?

    I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

    Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
    You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

    I run the program using Eclipse; run as> Java applet
    and in runs perfectly well. I then tried running it using internet explorer and firefox, but only a gray box appeared and the browser says "applet notinited" and "Loading Java Applet Failed.."
    what did i do wrong? any help is really appreciated.. thanks

    thank God i already found the cause of the problem..
    it's because the application has an ImageIcon which links to a local jpeg file, so perhaps security restriction on the browser doesn't allow my applet to access local file, that's why it fails to load.
    either using signed applet (not tested) or removing the picture solved my problem.
    thanks anyway :)

  • Applet using sockets works perfectly under Netscape but not under IE securi

    I have setup a java applet compiled with Sun Forte which implements a connection with a server application with sockets. The applet works perfectly on the same machine when it is loaded from netscape communicator but I receive an com.ms.security.SecurityExceptionEx security error when I am trying to connect on 127.0.0.1:7000. How can I solve this problem I have with IE. I would like to thank you on advanced.

    for ie you need a certificate that tells ie the applet if safe and allowed to open system-resources.
    take a look on the Forum: Signed Applets.

    Hi,
    if ur applet want to open socket in IE you need to import microsoft java package which is in Microsoft SDK for Java 4.0.
    import com.ms.security.*;
    try {
    if (Class.forName("com.ms.security.PolicyEngine") != null) {
         PolicyEngine.assertPermission(PermissionID.NETIO);
    } catch (Throwable cnfe) {
                   System.err.println( cnfe.toString() );
    you have to write above code and compile the java file by using jvc.exe which in Microsoft SDK for Java 4.0.
    You can download Microsoft SDK for Java 4.0 from microsoft site.
    try & all the best

  • Java-Applet-Plug-In shows up in Safari, but I did not install Java

    Hello,
    in Safari, when you click on "Help" and then on "Installed Plug-Ins", you get a list of all Plug-Ins installed. Beside the Quicktime- and PDF-Plug-Ins there's also this Plug-In listed:
    I wonder what this is, because I did not install Java on my fresh installed Mountain Lion.
    Second thing I wonder about is this: By the fact that this Applet is listed under "Plug-Ins" what affect does it have, when I uncheck the Option for Java in Safaris securtiy options? Do I also need to uncheck "Plug-Ins", or can I leave it as it is? Same questions, if I pretend Java is installed.
    Thanks alot for clearing that up! Again, there's a huge security issue with Java, as seen in recent news. And excuse my English.

  • Javascript (or some plugin) issues present in Firefox 8 but not Chrome.

    Not sure if this is a Javascript issue or what, but here are some of my issues:
    * Facebook: cannot close notification tab after I open it.
    * Tumblr: cannot expand images in posts on my dashboard; preexisting text in forms (such as the tags form when making a new post) does not go away. This "typeover" error exists on other pages as well.
    * Reddit: cannot enter the subreddit in a post; logging in from the main page results in error
    This hasn't been a persistent problem; it just started today. I tried reinstalling Firefox and restarting my computer, but the issues are still present.
    I don't have any of these problems in Chrome. Is this an issue Javascript and/or other plugins? When I disable Javascript, these problems don't exactly go away - the aforementioned features just don't work.

    Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />

  • My applet can access an image in Eclipse, but not when I put it online...

    Basically, I have an applet that displays images among other things.
    I stuck the images in the bin directory, and when I run the applet from Eclipse, there's no problem.
    But when I put the applet on my webpage, it crashes with a NullPointerException because
    image = ImageIO.read( new File( imageName ) ) can't seem to get the image.
    The images are in the same directory as my class files. I tried turning on all permissions.
    My html code is very simple:
    <applet code="ImageGenerator.class" width=1000 height= 500> </applet>
    Am I missing anything?
    Any idea what the problem is?

    Meteor,
    Can you shed some light on how big these files are?
    If these images are 200K each and you have 10 of them, then you're loading 2MB across the network each time the application loads. Depending on what you are doing, that may not be a good design.
    If these slow-loading images are needed right away, then embed them with your applet (preferably a Jar) and they should load pretty fast.
    If these slow-loading images are needed later, then thread the loading of them to a background task and use some form of visual feedback (like a "please wait" image) until they're finished.
    Lastly, if these images are relatively small and you are experiencing a significant speed difference between accessing them locally (such as on the server's file system or through a mapped-drive) and accessing them through http (or url, etc) then make sure your web server is feeding them up in a timely fashion and that there's no outstanding issues with the URL loading method and the Java version you're using.
    Please read Andrew's posts closely as you should not be designing an applet that loads files as a local resource unless you really need to. Signing the applet will allow you to save them locally to the filesystem (as a "cached" version to be loaded later), but don't try to load the images as files directly from the web server's file system. The signed applet will only be able to access the local file system of the station it's being run on, hence, usually not the server!
    As far as caching the files locally, Java webstart has potentially a better ways of doing that sort of stuff for you.

  • Applet works fine with JNLP... but not on my web page

    I can create a seperate JNLP for my applet, and it works fine. However, when I try to insert it into a web page, it does not work. I was wondering if this was a common newbie issue, and how I would go about fixing it. I compiled it using the newest J2EE JDK and the newest JSE (downloaded and installed a couple of weeks ago).
    Any help would be greatly appreciated... thank you.

    If you want to insert an applet in a web page you use java plug-in, not java web start. You can use Java Web Start to deploy an applet outside of a browser, but plug-in is still the primary applet deployment method, and the only one that can show an applet in a web page.

  • Why are Java SASLFactories missing when called via PL/SQL but not from JRE?

    Hi
    This may be quite a technical point about SASL and JCE Providers etc OR it may just be a question about how Oracle PL/SQL interfaces with Java.
    The background is that I am trying to get a Java opensource library to run in Oracle DB - this is for specialized communication from Database to other servers.
    The library uses a SASL mechanism to authenticate with the server and this (appears) to rely on JCE Providers installed and provided by the JRE.
    I have some Java code working which uses the library - this runs OK in NetBeans/Windows environment and also using Linux/Oracle JRE directly such as:
      +# $ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java -classpath "./MyMain.jar:./OtherSupport.jar" package.TestClient+
    However it refuses to work (throws a NullPointerException) when called from PL/SQL.
      +FUNCTION send_a_message (iHost IN VARCHAR2,+
         iPort IN NUMBER,
        +iLogin IN VARCHAR2,+
        +iPasswd IN VARCHAR2,+
         iRecipient IN VARCHAR2,
         iMessage IN VARCHAR2) RETURN NUMBER
       AS LANGUAGE JAVA
       NAME package.TestClient.sendATextMessage(java.lang.String, int, java.lang.String, java.lang.String, java.lang.String, java.lang.String) return int';
    In the Java code this is:
       public static int sendATextMessage(String iHost,
         int iPort,
         String iLogin,
         String iPasswd
         String iRecipient,
         String iMessage)
    I've tracked the issue down to there being no SaslClientFactories (via Sasl.getSaslClientFactories()) showing when called from PL/SQL whereas 3 are available when run from within Java directly. This via:
       Enumeration<SaslClientFactory> facts = Sasl.getSaslClientFactories();
       System.out.println("Found Sasl Factories [" & (facts != null)  & "] size[" & Collections.list(facts).size() & "]");
    So, is there some aspect of Java initialisation that I'm missing when calling from PL/SQL (which means SASL factories aren't getting loaded into JRE) or is there something different in SASL setup?
    Any pointers appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dave

    Ok, after a bit of reading and general hacking about I have got this working.
    What I hadn't initially understood/remembered is that for a Stored Procedure the JVM installed on file system with Oracle isn't actually used - java code is loaded into the database and hence a different set of base functions are available. The following is a good explanation of this http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14117_01/java.101/b12021/appover.htm#BGBIBDAJ
    So "out of the box" the Oracle Database appears to come loaded with only two of the Sun security providers i.e. no com.sum.security.SASL
    >
    OBJECT_NAME             OBJECT_TYPE     STATUS   TIMESTAMP
    com/sun/security/auth/NTSid  JAVA CLASS    VALID   2013-02-14:14:08:57
    com/sun/security/jgss/GSSUtil    JAVA CLASS    VALID   2013-02-14:14:08:57
    >
    This is from:
    >
    SELECT
      object_name,
      object_type,
      status,
      timestamp
    FROM
      user_objects
    WHERE
      (object_name NOT LIKE 'SYS_%' AND
       object_name NOT LIKE 'CREATE$%' AND
       object_name NOT LIKE 'JAVA$%' AND
       object_name NOT LIKE 'LOADLOB%') AND
       object_type LIKE 'JAVA %' AND
       object_name LIKE 'com/sun/security%'
    ORDER BY
      object_type,
      object_name;
    >
    My solution (which may well be a work-around) is the following:
    1) Downloaded JDK Source and extracted "com.sun.security.sasl" java code to my project
    2) Added following code to my Stored Procedure ()
    >
    Enumeration<SaslClientFactory> saslFacts = Sasl.getSaslClientFactories();
    if (!saslFacts.hasMoreElements()) {
      System.out.println("Sasl Provider not pre-loaded");
      int added = Security.addProvider(new com.sun.security.sasl.Provider());
      if (added == -1) {
        System.out.println("Sasl Provider could not be loaded");
        System.exit(added);
      else {
        System.out.println("Sasl Provider added");
    >
    3) Built my JAR file with the sasl package embedded (note: could only find Java 6 code, so had to comment out some GSS lines - but wasn't intending to use these)
    4) Loaded JAR to oracle via "loadjava".
    5) Add permissions (only found this out after a couple of failed runs)
    >
    call dbms_java.grant_permission('XMPP', 'SYS:java.security.SecurityPermission', 'putProviderProperty.SunSASL', '' );
    call dbms_java.grant_permission('XMPP', 'SYS:java.security.SecurityPermission', 'insertProvider.SunSASL', '' );
    >
    6) Run gives the following:
    >
    Sasl Provider not pre-loaded
    Sasl Provider added
    ...etc...
    >
    It works!. I confess I'm not sure of the implications of this for multiple calls/performance and if it will need to be added for each stored procedure call - may post back.
    For completeness I should point out that after my load the Security providers look like this:
    >
    OBJECT_NAME             OBJECT_TYPE     STATUS   TIMESTAMP
    com/sun/security/auth/NTSid    JAVA CLASS    INVALID  2013-02-15:09:11:36
    com/sun/security/jgss/GSSUtil    JAVA CLASS    INVALID  2013-02-15:09:11:37
    com/sun/security/sasl/Provider    JAVA CLASS    VALID    2013-02-15:10:03:21

    i.e. the original couple are "INVALID" !

  • Our business require to download & install SAP Java GUI 720. Able to download it but not to install due to "security preferences" restriction. Any suggestion?

    GE Energy requires us to use SAP for business. I downloaded the SAP Java GUI 720, can see it in the download window. But once I try to install it, the following message is shown: "SAP Java GUI 720 MacOSX.JAR” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."
    Please let me know if there is a way to change the security settings in order to install SAP on MacBook Air.

    Hello,
    To change the security settings go to:
    '''System Preferences''' >''' Security & Privacy'''.
    On the '''General Tab''' click the '''little lock''' in the lower left corner to '''unlock the general preference pane'''. Then select the ''''Anywhere'''' radio button beneath "'''Allow applications downloaded from'''" then confirm.
    If you need more assistance just ask for it :)
    Sincerly,
    Black Thunder.

  • Is Java Compiler a part of JVM or JRE but not JVM? ?

    hi friends... i need clarification....I am completely confused about how things go about from d time v compile to execution...Please can anybody give me a complete description

    Ok fine.....thanks....But suppose now i take a
    compiled program from 1 m/c to another....Now JIT
    comes into picture....So JIT must understand
    bytecodes....So does JIT belong to JRE ....Correct me
    if i am wrongJIT belongs to the JVM.
    Could you please have the courtesy of not typing like a seven-year-old girlie?

  • Hello I Have a problem that i cant solve i have itunes 10.2 went to 10.5 but i cant get anything to work comes up with (could not access network location ).I have checked my firewall settings tweaked as much as i can but not able to install itunes nor qui

    Hello Im Having A Problem With Itunes im Not Able to reinstall itunes at all nor quicktime and bonjour service is not working either .i have tried tweaking my firewall but to no avail hoping someone can help me cos apple sure cant typical like politicians they sway away from the problem and blame someone else ?.

    Well you need to understand the behavior of h-reap or what it's called now, FlexConnect. In this mode, the clients are still remembers on the WLC until the session timer/idle timer expires. So switching between SSID's in h-reap will not be the same when switching when the AP's are in local mode.
    Take a look at the client when connected in FlexConnect in the WLC GUI monitor tab. Thus will show you what ssid and vlan the client is on. Now switch to a different ssid and compare this. It's probably the same because the client has not timed out. Now go back to the other ssid and look again. Now on the WLC, remove or delete the client and then switch to the other ssid at the same time. Or switch SSID's and then remove the client. The client will join the new ssid and in the monitor tab, you should see the info.
    There is no need to have clients have multiple SSID's unless your testing. Devices should only have one ssid profile configured to eliminate any connectivity issues from the device wanting to switch SSID's.

  • Safari 5.1 update Snow Leopard Java no longer works

    I've been doing quite a bit of reading regarding how the Lion update changed the rules of how Java works (or doesnt work) for the new Safari 5.1 browser.  I also had quite a time with existing plugins after my SN 10.6.8 was updated with the new safari 5.1.  For example Lass Pass totally closed down my Safari 5.1 browser and kept it from even launching.  I later found a post that suggested I remove the LPass plugins via uninstall
    https://lastpass.com/lpsafari.dmg
    and then a reinstall of the plugin.   That seemed to work..
    However, I am still totally unable to get access back to my company's remote network via citrix which is a java based web portal.
    Can anyone advise regarding a solution in running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1 and getting java to work?
    I have seen posts re lion solutions but not snow leopard.
    Thanks all
