File adapter causes FTP process stop result 0 byte file.

Has anyone ever heard that FTP adapter can cause FTP process to stop and end up with 0 byte file transferred?
We use the normal ftp script to ftp file from external file server place file in XI inbound folder so that file adapter can pick them up from that folder.
We have encounter a few 0 byte FTPed file in our system. One suspecting is the network between XI server and file server might get some interruption. With out just blaming on the network. We would like to know if there is any possibility that it is also causes by our file adapter? Says, it try to read the file that is not yet complete transferring make FTP give up transferring??
We would like to know if FTP process is transferring the file over and file adapter try to read, what will happen? Will it read file with incomplete content and ftp still go on? Or will it stop reading and return back error as the file could not be open? Or it will force FTP process to let go the file??
Best rgds,
Thida

Hi,
><i>We would like to know if there is any possibility that it is also causes by our file adapter? Says, it try to read the file that is not yet complete transferring make FTP give up transferring??</i>
have not seen the file adapter causing any such problems. So, it looks like a network issue.

Am not exactly sure, but when a file is being created and the file adapter tries to read such a file, the file would be READ and WRITE Locked and so File adapter should not be able to read such a file until the creation of the file is complete.
Also, take a look at the note :  <b>821267</b> , question 31 for how file adapter processes empty file.

  • XI Sender file adapter - How to process data and control files.

    Hello all,
       I have the following requirement to fulfill: I am using an FTP client (XI Sender file adapter) to retrieve data from an FTP site. To make sure I am not picking up a data file that is currently being written to, 2 files are actually present on the FTP site (for each data file):
    1. abc.ctrl (control file with no data in it. Indicates that the data file has been completely written).
    2. abc.dat (actual data file).
      I want the file/ftp connector in XI to retrieve the data file (abc.dat) only if the control file (abc.ctrl) is present. After the processing of the data file is finished, both files (.dat and .ctrl) should be deleted.
      Is there an elegant and robust way to accomplish this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Yves,
    in my opinion there's no problem with files currently being written in combination with a polling file adapter because the final file name should be available only when the file is transferred completely. I'm using different file sender adapters very often and never had any problems. After picking up the files I move them to the corresponding archive folders mentioned in the adapters so that a second processing cannot occur.

  • Sapevt and file adapter using ftp

    Hi;
    Using the file adapter, I ftp a file to our SAP R/3 system called T01 (=SID).
    Target directory
    //T01/010/OCS/TC/IN
    File name scheme:
    wka.dat
    I specify in "Run Operating System Command After Message Processing"
    sapevt WKA -t name=T01 nr=01
    WKA is the event I defined (SM62) into our T01 R/3 system.
    It seems not to work. Any help? Did I miss something?

    hi amit,
    can you
    1. check whether the access to FTP is Authenticated, if so provide the username and password
    2. try giving different file name at the receiver end
    3. try normal ftp commands to access the folder

  • How to generate .pdx file using File Adapter and FTP Adapter

    Hi,
    is it possible to genearate .pdx file using oracle ESB Adapters(File Adapter and FTP adapter).
    Can you anyone guide me.

    hi,
    regarding report, there is a dedicated report forum. you should post there.
    but answer for your question is form is nothing to do with the pdf generation. you can call the report from the as usual.
    In the report you should set the properties like
    destype to 'file'
    desname to 'path with file name'
    desformat to 'pdf'

  • Difference between File adapter and FTP adapter

    hi,
    I would like to know what is the difference between File adapter and FTP adapter
    thanks
    Yatan

    Both file and ftp adapters are non-concurrent jca adaps, however we go for file adapters mostly when you have files on your local environment and do not need to wait for someone to FTP the files on a timely basis. In case of FTP Adapter, we would need an FTP Server, a remote location with access where in files pitch in for polling.
    Also, File adapter is dependent on the local folder and OS, however FTP adapter is dependent on the local as well as the remote file system/OS/folder permissions/user access.

  • Throttling a file adapter to consume a max number of files per minute

    Is there a way to design a file adapter to throttle its processing bandwidth.
    A simple use case scenario is describes as follows;
    A File Adapter can only consumes a max of 5 files per minute. The producer average throughput is 3 files per minute but during peak times it can send 100 files per min. The peak times occur during end of year or quarterly accounting periods. If the consumer consumes more than 5 files per min the integrity of the environment and data is compromised.
    The SLA for the adapter is to :
    - Each file will be processed within 2 seconds.
    - Maximum File Transactions Per minute is 5
    An example is as follows.
    The producer sends 20 files to its staging directory within a minute. The consumer only processes 5 of these files in the first minute, sleeps then wakes up to consume the next 5 files in the second minute. This process is repeated until all files are processed.
    The producer can send another batch of files when ever it likes. So in the second minute the producer can send another 70 files. The consumer will throttle the files so it only processes 5 of these files every minute.

    Hi,
    If you have a polling frequency set to 2 secs..then controlling it to read only five files a min is difficult.?You can have the polling frequecy changed to 12secs
    or u can schedule a BPEL for every min and use synchronous read operation and loop it 5 times to read 5 files.

  • Regarding receiver FILE adapter,  REMOTE FTP server

    Hi All,
    The scenario was to get XML file from a local FTP server and to place that XML file in REMOTE FTP server, which we dont have any control over that REMOTE FTP,
    While executing the scenario it is successfully picked the file and processed and it was success in SXMB_MONI, but when we see the Communication Chaneel of the receiver adapter it is generating the following error..
    Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
    Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
    clarifications needed ASAP
    regards,
    Kishore.

    Hi,
    Verify the Host details of the Remote FTP.
    Try to ping the Remote host as below
    Goto > start>Run --->type cmd and give the command as below
    c:\>ping <host details or IP address> press enter and see if you get the successful communication response.
    If its not it indicates that the connection is not setup.
    Ask you FTP administrators to look into connectivity issue for it.
    Thanks

  • Sender File Adapter - remote FTP server program execution

    Hi all,
    I have a scenario
    X12 -> XI -> File
    where sender File adapter is used. The input file is X12 txt document which needs to be converted into X12 xml format. I have created astylus studio XSLT mapping which uses Convertor to convert this txt file to X12 XML.
    I don't know how to configure sender file adpater to run this mapping on the source file before picking it up. have created a windows batch file on the FTP server which runs tis XSLT mapping on the txt file and replaces it with X12 format xml. This batch file uses command line parameters of stylus studio to run XSLT mapping on input txt file and generates an xml.
    I am not sure how to run this mapping on the input file before processing starts in PI file adapater.
    I tried running command line parameters of Sender file adapter but that didn't worked.
    Please help.
    Thanks
    -Kulwant

    Hi, Kulwant:
    Looks like you would like to execute your mapping program before file adapter pick it up.
    Right ? for one interface, it seems out of the XI scope, however if this is your requirement, you can separate into two interfaces:
    The first interface is file to file scenario, it is used to execute your mapping program:
    The file sender just pick up the txt file, send to integration engine.
    Your Message Mapping program need to specify your XSLT mapping, after the mapping, the message is XML format,
    then you will use file receiver to send it to certain directory.
    Now the XML format file is your input of your second interface.
    Regards.

  • Performance Problem with File Adapter using FTP Conection

    Hi All,
    I have a pool of 19 interfaces that send data from R/3 using RFC Adpater, and these interfaces generate 30 TXT files in a target Server. I'm using File Adapters as Receiver Comunication Channel. It's generating a serious perfomance problem. In File Adpater I'm using FTP Conection with Permanently Conection, Somebody knows if PERMANENTLY CONECTION is the cause of performances problem ?
    These interfaces will run once a day with total of 600 messages.
    We still using a Test Server with few messages.

    Hi Regis,
        We also faced teh same porblem. Whats happening is that when the FTP session is initiated by the file adapter, then its getting done from teh XI server. Hence the memory of the server is also eaten up. Why dont you give a try by using 'per file transfer'.
        If this folder to which you are connecting is within your XI server network then you can mount(or map) that drive to the XI server and use it with a NFS protocol of the file adapter and thereby increasing the performance.
    Cheers

  • Sending files via File Adapter through FTP having a HTTP proxy as firewall

    Dear  experts,
    I am having a issue trying to send a file via FTP with the File Adapter. My client has a HTTP proxy with authentification required as firewall  in order to send files via FTP.
    I've tried several solutions but I cannot find a way to add the proxy name, user and password in the communication channel.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards

    Hi,
    Unfortunately those changes didn't work. The adapter is not able to establish a connection within the FTP server. These are the parameters I added:
    -Dhttp.proxy.user=<usename>
    -Dhttp.proxy.password=<userpassword>
    -Dhttp.proxyHost=<proxy.domain...>
    -Dhttp.proxyPort=80
    -Dhttp.nonProxyHost="*domain1.com domain2com"
    -Dhttps.proxy.user=<usename>
    -Dhttps.proxy.password=<userpassword>
    -Dhttps.proxyHost=<proxy.domain...>
    -Dhttps.proxyPort=80
    -Dhttps.nonProxyHost="*domain1.com domain2com"
    And just in case, we tried with these other parameters at the same time.
    -Dftp.proxy.user=<usename>
    -Dftp.proxy.password=<userpassword>
    -Dftp.proxyHost=<proxy.domain...>
    -Ddftp.proxyPort=80
    -Dftp.nonProxyHost="*domain1.com domain2com"
    The errors in the adapter engine's log are:

  • FTP Interruption creates 0 byte file

    Hello,
    When I use a receiver file adapter to send an .xml file to an FTP server I will occassionally get a 0 byte file.  When I look in RTWB I see that the file initially failed and then succeeded on the first retry.  Since I am using a time stamp on the file, the file name changes and does not overwrite the 0 byte file.  How can I have PI clear up the old 0 byte file.
    I believe using Put File:  "Use Temporary File" will allow me to use a .tmp file but I'll still have a bad 0 byte file in the folder.  It will just be easier to recognize.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi,
    Can below thing be useful?
    Select Handling of Empty Messages:
    ○       Write Empty File
    An empty file (length 0 bytes) is put in the target directory.
    ○       Ignore
    No file is put in the target directory.

    Hi James,
    Yeah I tried that too and it gave the same error. And I need to encode with MS932 only since the data will contain Japanese characters and this encoding is identified both by windows and non-windows OS.
    Please can you advice what can I do since the requirement is urgent.

  • Receiver File Adapter - Dynamic FTP Server Address

    Hi,  I would like to pass the FTP Server address to the Receiver File Adapter as an parameter.  Is this possible and if so what Name Space / Parametr Names add to the Product to define these values.
    Thanks
    Andre

    Hi Andre,
    If you have your server as a part of your payload, thendynamic file server generation concept can be done is as follows.
    In your server name field. just give a variable with % symbols. (eg: %file% ).
    Now, under the option Variable Name Substitution, you can give how the value has to be created.
    It can be your interface name, sender service name, etc or it can be some value dynamically from your payload.
    For the former, your give
    message:interface_name ,etc
    and for the payload part you give,
    Payload: "your element root which u wanna acecss"
    Just check this link out,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/bc/bb79d6061007419a081e58cbeaaf28/content.htm
    And read the contents under variable substitution and it will help you understand the concepts better.
    If you have any clarifications, do get back,

  • File Adapter does not process the same file twice

    SOA: 11.1.1.4 (non-HA).
    I have a file adapter that triggers when a new file gets to a directory; the file is not deleted after the process triggers.
    The process is supposed to call other services via a mediator and if any remote fault happens it should rollback automatically and re-trigger with the same file at the next polling interval.
    I have literally 3 scenarios:
    1). The file gets picked up once, the process fails and the file is never picked up again.
    Msg in log: The file : /xx/xx/xx/abc.xml is being ignored as it has already been processed
    2). If the mediator only routes to one service after the file gets picked up, it works as expect (that is rollback and restart at the next polling interval). If it has more than one sequential routing rule, I see the same error as above.
    3). File does not get picked up EVEN if I "touch" or rename the file.
    Msg in Log:
    File Adapter ProcessName Poller enqueuing file for processing :/xx/xx/xx/abc.xml
    File Adapter ProcessName Ignoring File : abc.xml as it is already enqued for processing.
    I have already checked, there is no permission issue.
    This is what my .jca file looks like:
    <adapter-config name="getFile" adapter="File Adapter" wsdlLocation="getFile.wsdl" xmlns="http://platform.integration.oracle/blocks/adapter/fw/metadata">
    <connection-factory location="eis/FileAdapter" UIincludeWildcard="*"/>
    <endpoint-activation portType="Read_ptt" operation="Read">

    <property name="SingleThreadModel" value="true"/>
    <property name="PhysicalDirectory" value="/xx/xx"/>
    <property name="Recursive" value="false"/>

    </activation-spec>
    </endpoint-activation>
    </adapter-config>
    Thanks for looking into it in advance.
    Any help with the error messages will be appreciated.

    You have to use MOVE operation, if there is any remote exception occured, then move the file to someother folder and again move back to the same folder where the file pickup will start.
    In that way you will be use the same file picked up next time when the polling happens.
    It is considered good etiquette to reward answerers with points (as "helpful" - 5 pts - or "correct" - 10pts).
