File Adapter-handling erroneous files and let channel continue to poll file

Hello,
Even tough there is not an out-of-the-box solution in PI, I'd like to hear your suggestions. When having a file sender communication channel to pick and send files, there are cases where we get errors at the adapter level. These errors are generally due to errors in the file, which will, for example, lead to conversion errors. When this happens, this communication channel will present us an error and will continuously try to pick the erroneous file till we fix the error in that file. Now imagine the situation where in the same folder you have another 1000 files to be picked up and these are all right. Despite this fact, the communication channel will continue to be in an error state till it can process the first file. My question is, what's your generic and standard solution to automatically place this erroneous file in an erroneous folder directory enabling the communication channel to process the other 1000 files?
Thank you for your suggestions.

Hi,
As said above...that option need to be utilised in case of error files....
search SDN if need more details...and coming to the second u mentioned that if 1000 files are there for processing and waiting...
if file adapter criteria for processing the file matches and if file is correct then those files will get processed inspite of one error file also...
Hope this clears your queries...

  • File Adapter Transactional in SOA and OSb

    Hi All,
Is file adapter transactional in SOA and OSB. I have a requirement where a inbound file adapter polls for a file and it is consumed by a topic. If topic is down, how can I know that the same file will goes to topic when is up(how can I make it transactional).I want to do this both in SOA ans OSB.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kumar.

    Hi Kumar,
File Adapter itself is NON TRANSACTIONAL...
    4.2.9 Nontransactional
The Oracle File Adapter picks up a file from an inbound directory, processes the file, and sends the processed file to an output directory. However, during this process if a failover occurs in the Oracle RAC back end or in an SOA managed server, then the file is processed twice because of the nontransactional nature of Oracle File Adapter. As a result, there can be duplicate files in the output directory.

  • Why we dont need sender agreement and comm channel in IDOC to file scenario

    Hi,
    there are 2 queries:
    first query :
Scenario is "Idoc to file transfer"
why we dont need sender agreement and communication channel for IDOC to file ,while we do need
both of these for "File to RFC "
Answer : which i got is because IDOC sits at ABAP stack but same is valid for RFC also.
Then why For "IDOC to file" we dont need that.
    Second query:
Also when i did scenario for File1-RFC-File2 scenario using BPM i have created a interface
between XI-RFC synchronous to send data which we got from file1 in XI to RFC importing parameter
and getting data from RFC back to File2.
Here in IDOC to file scenario why we dont need any interfface for IDOC-XI Asynchronous.

    Dear All,
For file to idoc scenario is there any possibility to get line items details or xml details i.e the segments and its related field details using reference id, transaction id or interface name or message id in SAP PI 7.0. I know we need to click each and every message in sxi_monitor and look for details.
For SAP(R3 System) I can create a report and set the job for specific time period so automatically it throws the details(like reference no, document date, invoice no from) in ftp path as .csv file. The same ftp path is maintained in program.
I wanted to check FTP--->PI postings and I have set the job at r3 system it is working fine and Im monitoring it too.
Now the end to end scenario is FTP--->PI--->ECC(R3 system). Please help. Many Thanks.

  • I have the latest Mac Air 13" and I have a Seagate 500MB external hard disk I cant copy or Cut any files on the hard disk and I cant even delete any files. I have the settings as Read and Write in the get info tab. Please help

I have the latest Mac Air 13" and I have a Seagate 500MB external hard disk I cant copy or Cut any files on the hard disk and I cant even delete any files. I have the settings as Read and Write in the get info tab. Please helpand also note that my hard drive was formatted on a Windows 7 Laptop.

thats the problem, its in MSDos (Fat) or NTFS for Windows.
    Options.....
    1. offload all that data on the HD onto your PC, THEN format the HD in EXFAT for use on BOTH PC and Mac for read/write.....then reload all (or as you need) that data back onto the HD
    2. get another HD, and format it for Mac OSX extended journaled.
    FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
    Maximum file size: 4GB.
    Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
    NTFS (Windows NT File System)
    Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
    Maximum file size: 16 TB
    Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.
HFS+     ((((MAC FORMAT)))  (Hierarchical File System, a.k.a. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Don't use case-sensitive)
    Read/Write HFS+ from native Mac OS X
Required for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backups of Mac internal hard drive.
To Read HFS+ (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer
    Maximum file size: 8EiB
    Maximum volume size: 8EiB
You can use this format if you only use the drive with Mac OS X, or use it for backups of your Mac OS X internal drive, or if you only share it with one Windows PC (with MacDrive installed on the PC)
EXFAT (FAT64)    ------Can read/write from both PC and Mac
Supported in Mac OS X only in 10.6.5 or later.
Not all Windows versions support exFAT.
    exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table)
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support exFAT
    Maximum file size: 16 EiB
    Maximum volume size: 64 ZiB
You can use this format if it is supported by all computers with which you intend to share the drive.  See "disadvantages" for details.

  • Receiver File adapter : two choices "Directly" and "Use Temporarly file" ?

    Hi All,
I am writing the file into a folder and I want to write the file completely into the folder.Once the file is placed , one tool will be keep on picking files every second from this folder. So I need to put the file after filling entire data.
In the File adapter, the put file option has two choices "Directly" and "Use Temporarly file".
"Directly" option will serve my purpose?
Which option I need to keep for Empty-Message Handling "Write Empty file" or "Ignore"?
    Thanks

    Hi Mohamad,
    >> You need to place in the some other folder and do the transfer completely and move the file to desired location using command line parameters as recommended in the previous answers.
I will be posting all the files as .txt files. Can we move the file by using command line parameters for FTP connection?
I heard that we can get do it only for NFS and we cannot do for FTP connection.?
Can you please suggest the command line how to use it.

  • Can the File Adapter handle Multiple Record Layouts in COBOL?

I am trying to parse flat files that have a record type field in the first four characters on each record. As a test I tried to use the following record definitions:
    01 CONTRACT-HEADER.
    05 RECORD-TYPE PIC X(4).
    05 TRANSACTION-TYPE PIC X.
    05 CONTRACT-NUMBER PIC X(32).
    05 CONTRACT-RELEASE-NBR PIC X(30).
    05 CONTRACT-FILLER PIC X(2025).
    01 CONTRACT-LINEITEM.
    05 RECORD-TYPE PIC X(4).
    05 TRANSACTION-TYPE PIC X.
    05 LINE-FILLER PIC X(1664).
I also tried smaller records with simple test data. When I press the "test" button in the native file adapter the XML is never generated if I have more than one record type as above. Suppose that the contract-header record type always has the string "X001" in it, while the contract-lineitem always has "X015" in the record-type. I chose Us-ascii and chose $eol as a delimiter. The file on my windows computer has carriage return line feed after each record. I know that the fixed length converter works, but because the records really have 50 fields on each record type and are long, I don't think I can actually use that one in one sitting. Has anyone ever gotten two different record lenght cobol definitions to work? Do I have to hand edit the XML to specify the delimiter? I don't see any delimter specified in the generated XML before I attempt the test.

    Rahul,
I recommned you should use "|" as "," can be embedded in a text string. I guess you can pass a directive to use to deliver "|" delimited file :). If you want to handle both then you might have to write a shell script or bat to pass delimiter as an argument which will edit and replace your control file.

  • File  Adapter :- Handling Large documents

    Hi
I am currently working on File Adapter. Reading large documents and writing the same in to some other file location.
I came across the following techniques:
    1. Scalable DOM
    2. File Chunk Read.
Can any one help me the exact use cases of the above mentioned techniques in File Adapter.
    Thanks

    1. Scalable DOM - is used to move/copy large files intact.
    2. File Chunk Read - is used to process large documents (it uses a while loop).
When you're using File ChunkRead, you can take a large document with many elements and for each of those elements, perform some operations.
    -----------Documentation-----------
    **Oracle File Adapter Scalable DOM
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/integration.1111/e10231/adptr_file.htm#BABCHCEI
This use case demonstrates how a scalable DOM process uses the streaming feature to copy/move huge files from one directory to another.
The streaming option is not supported with DB2 hydration store.
You can obtain the Adapters-103FileAdapterScalableDOM sample by accessing the Oracle SOA Sample Code site.
    **Oracle File Adapter ChunkedRead
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/integration.1111/e10231/adptr_file.htm#BABJFCBH
This is an Oracle File Adapter feature that uses an invoke activity within a while loop to process the target file. This feature enables you to process arbitrarily large files.
You can obtain the Adapters-106FileAdapterChunkedRead sample by accessing the Oracle SOA Sample Code site.

  • Sender File Adapter. Fixed Lengths and Field Separator

    Hello guys,
I have a doubt in Sender File Adapter with Content Conversion.
I have a text file like:
    a,b,c,,e
I have the configuration in the adapter:
    Register.fieldNames: a,b,c,d,e
    Register.fieldSeparator: ,
The question I have is can I format the length of the text when i create the XML?
I woul like to create the XML like:
    <Row>
      <Register>
        <a>a   </a>
        <a>b  </a>
        <a>c  </a>
        <a>   </a>
        <a>e   </a>
      </Register>
    </Row>
I would like that when I create the file in Field A I have length = 4, but I have only 1 in the entry, and I want to fill the rest of the length with spaces.
I tried with FieldFixedLengths but when I test it the fields are not being formatted and take the commas as part of the field.
I know that this can be done in Receiver File Adapter, you leave for example one field of 5 length and you format it to 12 length with spaces.
Is this possible for Sender File ADapter?
    Many thanks.
    Regards,
    Xavi.

    hi,
See the example given in this bog, in this blog the string has been splited into different fields as per the field length, so you may use the same concept to get your output.

  • File Adapter creating huge connections and not releasing.

    Hi,
We see high no. of current connections in file adapter from weblogic console against eis/HAFileAdapter under deployments -> fileadapter -> monitoring -> Outbound Connection Pools and are concerned about the same. It seems like fileadapter is not releasing the connection and hence no. of connections are piling up over a days and depending upon the transactions. coz after a restart the values comes down from 36000 to 10 ( which is default initial connection).
But when i see at the datasource level i don't see that much number of active connections. Need to know why this is happening and is this behavior is expected?

    Hi Arik,
    To answer your questions :
You are using HAFileAdapter in your processes JNDI defenitions? --Yes
Check in your HAFileAdapter Connection Pool if Shrinking Enabled is set to true. --Its set to true
I would recomend also to change the properties Test Connections On Reserve to true, and Test Frequency Seconds(900 is the default). --These properties are also in place

  • File adapter Need to wait When Other Applicatio is writing the file

    Hi All,
This is File to File Interface, iam using NFS here.
While other application is writing the file to the Folder, XI Sender File Adapter shld wait for certain time and then pick it up.
We have the Option " MSecs to Wait Before Modification Check" on File Sender Advanced TAB.
But it is no Use, it is not behaving correctly.
    Please assist me on this
    Regards

    Hey Vamsi,
I think you're good to go here. The behaviour is exactly as it should be. The polling interval takes priority when there is no file there but when there is a file there the modification check will take priority over polling interval so it will still wait the mandatory 2 minutes to ensure that no modification is taking place & that's exactly what you want. You don't want to pick up an incomplete file irrespective of when it was put there. So there will always be just over a 2 minute delay (or whatever you set the Msecs value to + a few seconds depending on where the polling cycle is when a file is written out but a max of 2 minutes & 19 seconds delay) when there is a file there but at least you'll have consistent data. If there is no file there the adapter will just poll every 20 seconds until a file arrives.
The 2 minute 'wait' step is exactly that. The adapter will see the file then wait 2 minutes & probably does a timestamp comparison or something. It doesn't do a modification check within those 2 minutes. Having said that, I don't see why you can't reduce the Msecs interval. My reasoning is that you basically want to establish whether it's still being wriiten out before you pick it up. Even if you set it to 5 seconds you should still be able to pickup whether the file is being modified (I'm assuming that the check is doing a timestamp comparison). That will significantly reduce your time wait period.
My assumption on the timestamp comparison was wrong It's actually does a comparison on file size when it reads the data in, see SAP Note (Point 3): [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bc_xi/~form/handler%7b5f4150503d3030323030363832353030303030303031393732265f4556454e543d444953504c4159265f4e4e554d3d383231323637%7d]
Another suggestion made on the note: Get the writing application to write the file out with an extension different to the one you're polling for. Then, after they have completed writing out the file, they can do a re-name to the extension that you're polling for. That could also speed up things.

  • File adapter don't want to ignore the header row in file

    Hi gurus!
In my sender communication channel I specified Document Offset = 1 to spent the first row in file(header)
    But it doesn't work.
    Do you have any ideas?

Under Document Offset, specify the number of lines that are to be ignored at the beginning of the document.
This enables you to skip comment lines or column names during processing. If you do not make an entry, the default value is zero lines.

    But in Receiver File adapter
    NameA.addHeaderLine=0
is used to have no Header line in the target structure

  • OracleSOA - File Adapter - Correct mechanism to get the line number from the file

We are using Oracle SOA process to read data from a file, process the data and write it to the database. SOA process is created using Oracle File Adapter to read the data, Oracle BPEL to transform & process the data and Oracle DB Adapter to write the data into the database.
Oracle File Adapter uses native schema to process the fixed length data in the file. The number of rows in the file may exceed more than 500,000, to support processing of large files we use chunk size in the file adapter as 4000 rows. In each read operation, file adapter reads the data that matches to the schema, there might be few rejected rows as well.
Oracle File Adapter property - jca.file.LineNumber gives me only the line number till what line the data is read. Is there any way to get the line number in the xml message, which exactly matches to the line number in the file.?
Flat File Format: (Every file has one header, trailer and multiple data lines),
    HEADER02 -
    L01
    L01
    L01
    TRAILER02
Line number is one of the crucial requirement in the development of the SOA service, this is used to back trace the information from which source and line the data has come.

    Hi Anshul,
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I am using DB adapter to insert the data into db.
While doing the xsl transformation I can get the index of the message using position(), but that is not the correct way as there can be rejected lines by the file adapter.
Even if I maintain a local counter variable, it will not consider rejected lines and increment that, which is not correct.
    Thanks,
    Ravindra
