File backup/restore in KM

Hello all,
We're using EP5 SP5, KM 5.0. I haven't had this request yet, but I can see it coming.
We've set our collaboration rooms up with a Team Folder. The collaboration room content is kept in the /documents repository, which is a CM type repository with a persistence mode of DB - All Data in DB.
If a user accidentally deletes a file and wants me to restore it, how can I do this? It's not like it's a single file on the filesystem that can be restored, it's kept in the CM database. I can't simply restore the entire database so that the user can have his/her one file back.
Can anyone tell me how I might handle this issue when it comes up? Is there a SAP note on this or other documentation that I might be able to read?
Thanks!

Hi Frank, hi Stephen,
as far as I've heard, SAP is developing a standard solution for EP6 (probably upcoming with SP13 or later, maybe also introduced with some patch for SP2).
This would rely on a developing suggestion we've made. Maybe it's also done by the technique we've suggested, which has been a bit different than the one Frank suggested - just by using a repository service (so the delete command wouldn't have to be replaced, and you can activate / deactivate this behaviour independent of the concrete command). See my last answer on Restore Documents stored in Portal KM
Hope it helps
Detlev
PS: Frank, it's sunday, sunday, knick-knack (I'll get out just now, as long as I endure).

Don't you just love changes in interfaces?
I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

  • Can't restore Windows 7 file backup in Windows 8.1

    Hi There,
This seems to be quite a stupid issue to have but here we go...  before installing Windows 8.1 onto my laptop I took a backup of my user files using the Windows 7 backup tool which created me an array of zip files, with a catlog file and a MediaID.bin...
    all normal.
I then performed a fresh install of Windows 8.1, deleting the existing Windows 7 partitions.
Having completed the install I'm finding it impossible to restore my Windows 7 backup...  I can't even find a function which allows me to browse to a backup location to try and restore!?
The Windows 7 File Recovery tool isn't there any more, and for all intents and purposes "Recovery" doesn't seem to do anything useful... I don't want to restore a system image, just some files.
Can anyone help with my probable stupidity??  I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.

Well I'm extracting the new backup set and guess what WinRAR 5.01 took care of the long filename problem, with a full video shortly. The long filenames was windowsold. The metro apps have very long names.
To all admins/MS employees after watching the next video, I'm asking for shadow
Darkken to stop repeatedly telling us this does not work when in fact this does.
    You really can't read.
Long filenames aren't the issue here. They never were, and I pointed that out several times.
Large files that get split across the set are the problem. As in some files are being split into multiple smaller files pieces that simply extracting and overwriting each other doesn't work.
Seriously, I give up. You simply do not hear people, you're too concerned with phantom issues that no one but you has brought up, and you don't take the time to actually pay any attention to what people are saying.
The article YOU posted even mentions these files, and advises people to ruin them and make them useless.
My problem was long filenames, anyways I have fully extracted and completed the backup set using winzip. For larger files I use this method.
    http://www.pcandtablet.com/windows-8-1-system-backup-and-restore/1552/how-to-use-windows-7-file-recovery-in-windows-8-1-a.html
Re: How to use Windows 7 file recovery in windows 8.1?
Windows 8.1 no longer has Windows Backup, because it has been replaced by the File History feature. In Windows 8, you could still access the Windows 7 backup/restore utilities, but these have been removed in Windows 8.1.
When you create a backup using Windows Backup, you should use the Restore Files wizard to restore the files. If you can't use the Restore Files wizard (for example, when you're using a computer that’s not running Windows Vista or Windows 7), you can manually
extract files from a backup by following these steps:
    1.       Open the location where your backup is saved.
The files in your backup are saved as zip files.
Right-click the backup file (a file with the Windows Backup icon and the name of your computer), and then click Open.
To manually extract files that are larger than 200 MBs
If a file is larger than 200 MBs, it will be split into multiple zip files. You will need to extract and then combine these files following these steps:
    1.       Open the location where your backup is saved.
Find the zip files that contain the file you want to extract. For example, if you're trying to extract a video file named BirthdayParty, you would find the zip files that contain files with that name.
Create a folder on your desktop to extract the files to.
Since the files all have the same name, you'll need to rename them as you extract them.
Extract the first file into the folder you created on your desktop and then rename the file.
Repeat this step until you have extracted all of the files, making sure that you name them similarly. For example, if you have four files for the BirthdayParty video, name them BirthdayParty1, BirthdayParty2, BirthdayParty3, and BirthdayParty4.
Open the Command Prompt window by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Command Prompt, and then, in the list of results, click Command Prompt.
Type the following command: copy /b filename*.file_extension new_filename.file_extension
    For example, copy /b BirthdayParty*.avi BirthdayPartyAll.avi
WINZIP OR WINRAR WILL WORK FOR YOU, IF NEEDED TO BE. VHD FILE WILL WORK FOR YOU IF YOU CREATED THE IMAGE. I HAVE NO PROBLEM RESTOREING 10 GIG ISO SPLIT INTO 5 FILES. I HAVE EVERY IMPORTANT FILE I
HAD IN WINDOWS 7 NOW TO USE WITH WIN8.1
Stop telling people this does not work. IT does. I do suggest anyone getting ready to install windows 8.1 to make a VHD file. You'll have less work to do. This method is for emergencys only. As  the person
asking the question asked. I supplied the answer for him/her to get the files back

    Hi everybody,

  • How to BackUp Restore Large Library "original file could not be found"

I've searched the archives for this with no clear answer, and am reposting to avoid confusing anyone.
I am working on a manual and seamless BACKUP-RESTORE process to manage my large 100-gigabyte-plus iTunes library.
    +++++
First, my iTunes folder is in default location:
    Boot drive> User> Music
I don't keep any music in this folder.
New music is imported into this folder, copied over to my Music Library, and then deleted from iTunes folder (to keep it and my boot drive clean, and my 100GB Music Library folder meticulously organized).
My iTunes folder is set at default:
    iTunes> Preferences> Advanced> Change> iTunes Music folder location
My actual 100-gigabyte-plus music folder is stored on a 2nd hard drive:
    HardDrive> Music Library
    This setup works perfect.
    +++++
    BACKUP
    To backup, I simply:
    1) copy my User> Music> iTunes folder (800mb) to a 3rd hard drive.
    2) copy my HardDrive> Music Library to 3rd hard drive
    RESTORE
    To restore, I simply:
    1) copy my backup iTunes into User> Music.
    2) copy my Music Library back to 2nd hard drive HardDrive.
    3) Relaunch iTunes and every works perfect.
    THE PROBLEM
However, if I change the name of my 2nd hard drive (where my 100GB music folder is stored) — iTunes shows everything in place — all songs, art, playlists — but I get following error on every song:
THE SONG NAMED ______ COULD NOT BE USED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL FILE COULD NOT BE FOUND. WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOCATE IT?
Obviously I don't want to have to do this individually for 30,000 songs and am looking for instructions how to point iTunes database back to my 2nd hard drive> Music Library and complete the restore process.
I am hoping this can be done without changing my work flow — and it is a simple and logical move to tell iTunes where all the original files (missing songs) are stored.
    +++++
    Previous discussions have noted:
    Following this Apple Support Doc
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
I was able to Quit iTunes, relaunch iTunes holding Option key, and chose my existing library (from my Music folder) — it works, everything shows up — but iTunes still doesn't know where my songs are (on my 2nd hard drive).
If I point the Option+Open iTunes library prompt to my 100GB Music Library (on the 2nd hard drive), it tells me (logically) there is no library there).
I've also launched and manually verifies iTunes> Preferences> Advanced> Change> iTunes Music folder location — it works, everything shows up — but iTunes still doesn't know where my songs are (on my 2nd hard drive).
I anticipate more complications if I reset iTunes preferences to my 2nd hard drive or start dinking around trying to see what works and what does not work.
    +++++
At this point I am trying to make THIS workflow, backup-restore process work — so I am hoping someone else has slugged through this and can take a few minutes to clue me in the right direction (or at least tell me there is no way to do what I am trying).

If I simply rename the second hard drive to the name of the original 2nd hard drive — iTunes is successfully restored.
I am still looking for a better way because I want to change the name of the second HD...

I want to know while taking backup which are the files i.e DataFiles , ControlFiles, Snapshot files , password files & archive log files we needed.
Also same for the restore operation.
    Thanks.

    RMAN can backup:

  • Duplicate node in configtool.sh after files sytem backup / restore

    Hello,
We are doing EHP4 installations for our live ECC6 (ABAP+Java) landscape. We wanted to achieve EHP4 installation more consistently and accurately in our test system first. We are performing system copy from our Production system (sapecp) to TEST  system host (sapecb) using full file system backup and restore.
We have restored most recent full file system backup of our PRD(sapecp) on our TEST System (sapecb). Due to the different host name of test system we aslo finished the host renaming steps from note 8307 and 757692. Our DBAsu2019 also adjust the new
host name in Oracle after the file system restore. After this we are able to start SAP instance successfully on TEST system.
However we have noticed that configtool.sh is now showing two nodes automatically instead of a single node in both PRD and TEST systems.
Q: Is their anything else we still need to change in configtool.sh in our TEST system to remove references of PRD ?
Q: is this a normal behavior of configtool.sh after a file system backup and restore ?
Q: is their a way to clean up the configtool nodes in both system ?
Please advice if anyone has faced the similar issue ?
    Thanks,
    Harshal

    Dear Reagan,
Infra team did only the Backup Restore of the Prod system and no Export Import of Prod using the sapinst.
Should I do the export import as it sounds by your and Pavan's reply that it might be required
We are doing Restore for Dual stack first time done the backup restore for ABAP stack a couple of times for ECC Quality refresh.
Should this be the option that I should select in sapinst for JAVA Export and JAVA Import:
    JAVA Export
    JAVA Import

  • OS 2.0.0.7971 modifying backup/restore file

OK, I'll update this post as I progress. This might be a long process.
Reason for doing what I am doing:
    1. Updated to official OS 2.0 and browser will not start
    2. Through my troubleshooting found out it has to do with the "application data" restore file. Here is my post with all the details: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-playbook-f222/os-2-0-browser-bridge-messages-not-starting-70...
    3. Would like to be able to restore all my game profiles/saves and be able to have the browser working. With the restore process I am only able to have one or the other.
I have taken one of my backup files. Extracted it. individually gone through each folder. Yes, there are hundreds (maybe 1000). And located the folders that seem to hold files associated with the browser native app.
    Two folders I found are:
    gYABgFX7ZKaP5vqkK1khM4zoP0A
    gYABgJYFHAzbeFMPCCpYWBtHAmo
I am thinking about two options:
    1. Removing the two folders completely (might remove the whole app, maybe not a good idea)
    2. Deleting individual files that in the folder that I deem might not be needed. Yes I would be guessing what ones are needed and not.
I would then have to recompress the files back into the backup file and restore them on the playbook and see what happens. It is a lot of work and a lot of time. But for some stupid reason it seems fun to me. LOL
Any ideas from the forum friends? Anyone played with altering the backup files? I was actually quite surprised that the backup are so easy to view and that I could potentially alter them.
I will wait for responses and suggestions prior to advancing. and will update this post with my process along the way.
    THANKS!!
    Update 1:
I will be doing the backup "customization" tonight and then the restore. Wish me luck!
If anyone has any knowledge or has tried anything let me know. All advise is appreciated.
I think I am going to start by creating a restore file with most of the files deleted. I am able to see what each folder pertains to (ex. calendar, modern combat, angry birds). I'll remove most of the apps/games and do a restore and see what happens (that way it is a small restore and not 6gigs).
    I'll update as I go.
    Brian
    Update 2:
Didn't have the time the other night to do the restore. I am compressing the backup file right now and will restore it tonight. Wish me luck!!
    Brian

Hi, I like to add some of my issues with the new OS.
    1. Wifi not as robust as before - it now keeps dropping connection.
    2. Screen seems less sensitive and gestures less responsive - it now takes several attempts to get gestures to work.
    3. The PlayBook seems to be generally slower and less responsive than before update.
It's not all bad though, new keyboard is much better than the old one. New layout (after getting used to it) is quite good too.

  • How to backup Mac server files and restore to Windows server?

Our company is moving from Mac Server to Windows Server 2008 R2.
I'd like to connect a hard drive to the Mac server (via existing eSATA) and backup our data (just file level backup is fine, don't need permissions or security) and then move hard drive to new Windows 2008 R2 server and restore files.
Does anyone have any cross-platform backup/restore software they can recommend?
We have about 500GB of data, so I prefer a locally connected device to backup to instead of over-the-network backup.
    Thank you for your ideas!

As standard the Mac cannot write to NTFS format disks, and as standard Windows cannot read from HFS+ disks. FAT32 might be a possibility but it does not support files bigger than 4GB.
The simplest if slower option is to do it over the network using SMB. If you do really want to do it with a hard disk then you may need to consider getting some software to let either Mac or Windows deal with the others preferred hard disk format.
To let the Mac write to NTFS there are several choices but the one I have used in the past is NTFS for Mac by Paragon, see http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
To let Windows read from HFS again the are multiple possible choices but the one I have used in the past and still use is MacDrive, see http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive

  • How to restore a song from the "Project File Backups"

Help! I recorded onto an external harddrive, then copied all the project folders to a different drive. Now, I can't find the project files, but I can find the "Project File Backups" in the Project Folders. I suspect the original project files were saved separately from these folders on the original hard drive, but that is long gone, so I am hoping some one can tell me how to recreate the project from the files in the "Project File Backups" folder.
ANOTHER CLUE: Stranger still, I can't find any of my logic song files using FILE>OPEN, SPOTLIGHT, nor FINDER- Only those that still populate the "open recent" list.
    Any ideas? Thanks friends!

    Hi there
Your Project File Backups are simply the previous Project files you've saved. These files are essentially the strip settings, layouts, midi, and pointers to the audio files of your Project.
If you have trashed the audio files then your are outta luck. This is why you should Consolidate (File-->Project-->Consolidate) all of your projects into one Project Folder on your HD. That way all of your Audio files as well as your sample files and UltraBeat files remain consolidated within a Project Folder. You can then Copy that entire Project folder to another location and have all of the respective files for that Project.
    Sorry for your loss.

    bb

  • Backup restoring procedure in system9

anybody has documents or links which talks about backup / restore complete system9 products . ?

    Hi,
I tell what I usually do.
I have EssBase and its apps in a server, and SharedServices in another one, so that, I have to do different backups.
First, make a Full backup for the ...\Hyperion folder with any backup tool (ntbackup and/or veritas in my case) and then, differential backups.
In the other server a use a script to make local copies of the SharedServices folder to mantain 1 copy per day.
On the other hand, you have to backup you SQL bases. I use de ms SQLServer tool for that.
This is a copy of my script to backup SharedServices (anyone who "lost" OpenLDAP service knows what I'm talking about..) that I scheduled to run every day. Please note that SharedServices has its own script to backup the directory, and it works fine.
++NOTE: %HYPBKP% is a system variable that I set in windows
echo "OPENLDAP Backup Log File" >SS_BKP.log
    echo "######################" >>SS_BKP.log

    Time /T >>SS_BKP.log
    echo "######################" >>SS_BKP.log

    REN SharedServices-1 SharedServices-2

    I hope this help you.

  • Control File Backups

    Hello-
I was looking over some configurations that was setup by another DBA.
There are 3 control files created but they all are on the same disk/directory.
Control file auto backup is on to tape.
If there was a hardware failure and all three control were corrupted/lost then a backup would be used but
full recovery and RESETLOGS would be needed which would lead to redo data loss.
If I configured 1 control file on a seperate disk. I would be able to copy this one and create 3 files again and the database
would be started again without needing recovery if all else was fine.
If the control keeps track of redo logs SCN, Archive logs history and RMAN backups when these change then wouldn't another control file backup/ trace need to be done ?
Control File Trace only alllows to rebuild the database not to copy. How often is the need to taken ? Every change in the database ?
Backup to the Flash Recovery is another backup not an updated copy to copy from but to restore/recovery with.
Do have have these theories correct and my best setup would to send at least one to another disk.
    Thanks-

If there was a hardware failure and all three control were corrupted/lost then a backup would be used but
full recovery and RESETLOGS would be needed which would lead to redo data loss. No. If you lose all three controlfiles, you either
    a. RESTORE a backup of the controlfile
    OR
    b. CREATE CONTROLFILE (from a script)
In either case, you do NOT need to do an INCOMPLETE Recovery. You will be doing a COMPLETE Recovery (if you have the Online Redo Logs). However, an OPEN RESETLOGS is still required. The %r in the log_archive_format since 10g allows ArchiveLogs to be retained through ResetLogs.
If the control keeps track of redo logs SCN, Archive logs history and RMAN backups when these change then wouldn't another control file backup/ trace need to be done ? If you RESTORE the controlfile you lose no information. However, you still have to OPEN RESETLOGS.
If you do a CREATE CONTROLFILE, yes, you lose information about ArchiveLogs history and RMAN Backups.
You can issue a CATALOG command to re-catalog available Backups.
Control File Trace only alllows to rebuild the database not to copy.A Control File Trace is to recreate the Controlfile. Not rebuild the database.
Backup to the Flash Recovery is another backup not an updated copy to copy from but to restore/recovery with. I don't understand what your statement or question might be here.

  • Backup/Restore from PC Suite with N71 worthless

    Hi,
I have used Backup from PC Suite (Version 6.82.22.0) to backup my N71 data before I gave the N71 to a repair shop. The N71 camera was not working.
After four weeks I got a N71 replacement. A brand new N71 with a different serial number which is not good because some S60 apps now no longer work.
But anyway the real surprise I got was after I run Restore from PC Suite to get all data back. The Restore finished without any error but almost nothing useful was restored!!
No Contacts, No Messages, No phone Setup (Themes, Bluetooth Config, Apps).
    Huh???
Is this really how Backup/Restore from PC Suite with a Symbian S60 3rd Nokia N71 us supposed to work??
If yes, than Backup is utterly worthless!!
I am not aware that I did something wrong. I have used Backup regularly and never got any error messages.
But it is painfully obvious that the most important data from the phone are not saved!
All the Restore did was restore some audio and image files and the Notes contents.
    Regards,
    Gagome

you can check the backup log for the details of the backuped content. or try this tool to view the content of the .nbu.

  • Backup/restore tablespaces in noarchivelog mode

In our office there is a oracle 10g box that's used for testing purposes.
It's only got 1 database, but each user has their own tablespace.
As it's not a 'live' box, archivelog and flashrecovery have been disabled by the dba probably in favour of speed.
I have a NUnit test suit that runs across a tablespace, and I am trying to restore the tablespace before each run.
In noarchivelog mode, RMAN allows me to take the tablespace offline, and create a backup - so far so good.
Later on, I am able to take the tablespace offline again, and issue a "RESTORE TABLESPACE" command.
But then I cannot bring the tablespace online without issuing a "RECOVER" command.
I have tried the NOREDO option but it still says that the file needs a media recovery before it can be brought online.
Is there a way to bring the tablespace online without applying the REDO logs ?
Or is tablespace backup/restore not possible because of noarchivelog ?
    Thanks.

I tried the TTS method, and it was only marginally quicker than a data_only impdp.
I suspect this is due to the nature of a fresh nunit test database, where the metadata (huge tables structure, stored proc, etc) is often larger than the table contents itself.
In the grand scheme of things it might even end up slower, as i need to drop the tablespace including contents if i want to use TTS to load up the backed up dbf.
From the comments I'm guessing that there's no way of just updating the timestamp of the tablespace without applying the REDO logs then ?
I've tested other methods as well.
Flash recovery could only work on a table or db level, I can't take the db offline as there are other users on it with their own tablespace/schemas. (it was an old dev's box, we're reusing what we can)
impdb with the truncate and data_only flag seems to be the only viable option so far, with TTS up for consideration.
