File Browse moving files

So, my DBA has issues with me storing PDFs in the database as a BLOB. Instead, they want to move the file to a shared drive location and store the link to the file. They think that the 300 or so PDFs loaded per year will make the database get really slow and hard to partition.
Is this possible in APEX? Does anyone have any examples?
For example:
User creates PDF on a local drive (C:/temp/somefile.pdf).
I use the file browse for them to go find it. When the form is submitted, the system needs to pick up the file and copy it to //someserver/someshare/.../somefile.pdf and store the link as the new file name to the file.
Oh, and I still need to be able to display the PDF from within the application.
Any ideas?

Here we have thousands of files uploaded to the database by Apex apps and it does not make the DB slow (well in fact it is quite slow but for other reasons...)

Itunes 9.0.2.25 skips with simple movements

I just rebuilt my system and installed the newest version of Itunes and now Itunes skips with just simple movements such as, opening a web browser, moving Itunes from one screen to another(dual monitors), clicking the "Get Info" tab on a song. I am stumped because I have never had this problem on my old system. Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

I think I have progress. My machine doesn't do the digital stutter anymore. It still skips ever so slightly, like a bad CD, but, it's much much better than before.
I updated the BIOS. I had to use the @Bios utility. It wouldn't accept a downloaded file from Gigabyte's website saying something like wrong part number on the dl'd file. I tried it 2x. But doing it through the @bios utility worked for me.
The cursor hang is gone too.
I suspected my ATI4670, I was going to pull that out next or downgrade to an older driver or swap to an older nvidea I have around, but it think this will be ok for now. Lemme know how it goes for you.

Switching between CC accounts on one PC

I have my own private Creative Cloud subscription - everything works great. Recently I've got the corporate account for teams from my work. Is there any way to switch between accounts smoothly? Especially I'd like to have both Creative Cloud folders on my PC available to synchronise, without uploading/downloding files through web browser.

Are you planning on continuing your current personal subscription to the Creative Cloud? If not then you can deactivate your current license by selecting Help>Deactivate. You can then relaunch the software and choose the option to License this Software and enter the Adobe ID for the subscription you are wishing to use.
Regarding your inquiry for the Creative Cloud Connection you can sign out and sign in with the other account. I would recommend just utilizing the web interface at https://creative.adobe.com/ if you only need occasional access to files on your personal computer.

Even more bizzare date issue

A jpeg file has all three dates (Date Time Original, Date Time Digitized,
Date Time) set to 12/31/2000 5:00:00 PM. The Metadata Browser puts this
image in the Unknown Date bin (don't know why this is broken, but that's
another thread). So, I use Metadata->Edit Capture Time->Adjust to a
specified date and time, to set the value to 12/31/2000 5:00:01 PM (in other
words, add one second to the time stamp). Now the Metadata Browser moves
the image from the Unknown Date bin to the correct date bin.
Then, and this is where it gets really wierd, I change the time back to
12/21/2000 5:00:00 PM, and the Metadata Browser moves the image bakc to the
Unknown Date bin. Incredible!!!
I changed the value to various other dates and times, which would move the
image to the correct date bin, but when I changed the value back to the
original date and time, the Metadata Browser moved the image back to the
Unknown Date bin. Very odd behavior. Any explanations?

I had no success in changing dates from within LR and hence don't ever touch them in LR. It just screws things up.
There are, however, more than three possible date/times in metadata. EXIF has three, as you note. But you can also put dates in IPTC info if you choose to do so.
Also, LR might support one of those dates. If you look at all metadata in the right hand panel, you can find under IPTC one of those dates, which they call "Date Created".
exifer calls the three dates you can choose to put in the IPTC: Creation date, Distribution date, and Sent date. Exifer calls the three dates in EXIF data: Date taken, Date modified, Date digitized. Date modified gets picked up from the file system, apparently. Cameras usually set Date taken and Date digitized. For my scans, I'm setting both dates. The Date taken being my guess for when they were taken and Date digitized when they were scanned. It may seem that the latter information is not very important, but we've had several scanners and if I put in the date scanned I'll have a better idea later which scanner was used. Maybe I should use an unused field for the scanner model but I haven't done so so far.
I'm not comfortable changing the metadata outside of LR after I've loaded and tagged them in LR because of our lack of knowledge as to what is really going on. Theoretically one could write metadata to file, do the changes, then import metadata from file but...

When booting my computer in UEFI mode, occasionally, my monitor does not wake from sleep and the screen remains black until Windows takes over and the login screen displays. This seems to usually occur after the computer has been powered off for more than 10 minutes. Sometimes this never happens, the screen remains black the whole time, and I need to hard reset. Sometimes it boots fine.
This black screen / no signal issue also occurs far more frequently when attempting to resume from sleep. I strike a key on the keyboard or hit the power button while the computer is in sleep mode, the computer wakes up, but the monitor never turns on. This forces me to either hard shutdown or reset in order to restore graphics.
In addition, I have a Razer keyboard that shuts off its backlight when the display is turned off, and it remains off when this problem occurs. This likely means that there is a problem with the card, drivers, or something else, rather than cabling. I might just RMA if we don't get anywhere here.
Perhaps a good first step would be ensuring that my card is flashed with the latest vBIOS. Can you send a link to that?
I'm also wondering if ULPS might be interfering, even though I am not in a CrossFireX setup.
Other than this MAJOR issue, the card works fine when playing 3D games. Though, I had major issues with video artifacts when playing 2D games or doing anything else simple (web browsing, moving windows) because of the absolutely terrible decision to underclock the past couple generations of AMD cards so much that the GPU can't function. I solved this by modifying an OverDrive profile to raise the idle clock to 850 MHz, but not overclocking at all.

Meta discussion for the mods (feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss this further, in order to keep the discussion here on topic): sorry for not immediately opening up another forum topic when commenting on this issue. Every single other community that I've been a part of prefers to keep users with the same problem on the same thread. In my experience, mods yell at people for opening up duplicate bug reports and duplicate issues far more than they ask people to fragment information across multiple threads, therefore making it difficult to consolidate information.

It could be a mobo issue, but all of the quirks seem to point to the card.
I do not recall if I tested the card in another PC, but I no longer have a second desktop to test with.
I do think I tested an NVIDIA card on a separate Windows install with this build though. No issues there if my memory serves correctly. I've been troubleshooting this issue for months, and I'm becoming tired of this stubborn problem, so the attempts at problem-solving are becoming blurred.

2nd monitor & app problem

i copied and pasted this from another mac forum... there was no reply. sometimes i have the same problem with apps such as cdxtract, battery 3 and Kontakt 3 in standalone mode.
Not Logic related but any ideas coz this can be very annoying if i forget to drag from 2nd monitor to the mac before hand.
I have a 2nd monitor attached to my Mac and if open an app Window on the 2nd monitor the next time I start the app the Window always defaults to the 2nd monitor (even if the 2nd monitor is turned off). Since I don't always remember that the app was opened on the 2nd monitor I would like a way to force the app to default to the primary monitor so I don't always need to turn on the 2nd monitor

The second screen is an extention of the primary screen and when you switch spaces, both will change to a different space.
There is a solution, but it requires associating the app with All spaces in System Preferences > Expose & Spaces > Spaces tab > Assign the app to Every Space. Then as you can spaces that app is present on all spaces.

If you don't want the browser in the primary monitor for all spaces, then use two different browsers. Safari for the primary browser and Firefox for the browser moved to external display. Then define Firefox in all spaces and Safari to only one.

Posting on the forum from your Palm PRE

Long time Palm user here. I really want to love WebOS.
This post was meant to be about losing my ability to download and save most podcasts. Due to a bug/glitch/flaw in the pre and in combination with how some sites work this has become impossible. (we are due for a fix any day now?)
But JUST attempting to post on this very forum turned out to be nearly impossible, from the Palm Pre.
Have you tried it? See what happens.
As soon as you begin to type in the text field the browser app automatically shifts focus to the top left corner. Meanwhile, as I type this in the Memo app to copy and paste later, the browser has inevitably gotten lost in the horrible memory shuffle and will have to refresh when I try to return to it.
Think we can get a fix for this minor browser annoyance?
All the little things are adding up to a really frustrating experience. I just have to ask. I can't be the only one having this much a frustrating experience with this phone?
Will "too many cards" be a permanent feature of the Pre hardware?
Slow! Will there be any speed enahncements in future updates? Is this even possible?
Email is practically unusable at times for how slow it can be.
Between lockup/slowdowns and the phone being stuck in headset mode a simple phonecall can be quite a task.

Mail Ap ipad2 crashes after open

SSo every time I Twp to open it opens to an empty frame for a couple of seconds then it closes. I have don a reboot;, went to settings and turned off email,went out then back in to reopen email. Any other suggestions?

Several others have corrected the issue by restoring their iPads via iTunes.
For me, I have been able to fix the issue by logging into my email account from a web browser & moving certain emails that appear to be causing the problem out of my inbox & into separate folders. Retrieving emails with large attachments (pdf, image, etc) seem to cause the issue on my iPad 2, iOS 8.2
I have also installed third party email apps (Gmail) so that I can access my emails if the Mail app crashes.
It's a workaround but works for me.

I know that you have a good reputation, but someone seems to be tampering my computer. I see the browser moving when I am working. Could it be someone in your organization? I have Norton for protection, but is not detecting the "virus". You come to my mind with this problem, because when I started to use your browser, at some point I got a note when I was working with a Media document, saying: "You are with the Media, why don't you write something on Firefox."

Have you enabled Automatic Downloads on all of your devices? This would download all of the books to all of your devices when you download on any device - as long as you are using the same Apple ID and iTunes account on all of your devices.
Go to Settings>Store>Automatic Downloads>Books>On. When you download a book on one iDevice, it will download to all of your iDevices. This will only work for downloads moving forward from the moment that you turn the setting on. You will have to download the previously purchased books to all of your other devices.
With iCloud, you can start reading the book on one device and then pickup where you left off on another device.

I moved my Backups.backupdb folder to a larger hard drive and the transfer went fine with the space taken was correct but when i open my Backups.backupdb folder and browse there is actually no folders or files, the folder shows 280gig used but empty?

So i draged my time machine Backups.backupdb folder from my external hard drive to a larger external hard drive, the folder size was 280gig and took some time to transfer and once transfered i checked the size on the larger drive and the folder size was correct 280 gig. Job done i thought but the next day (stupidly after formating my oringinal drive) checked the Backups.backupdb i see that there is actually no folders or files in the Backups.backupdb??? when transfer the file it shows the 280 gig and names the files being tranfered but i just can't find them. Any clues how i can acces these files?

That is not the proper way to do what you want. You need to use Disk Utility to clone the old backup drive to the new backup drive.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new backup drive. Source means the old backup drive.

Remove "MacKeeper" as follows.
"MacKeeper" has only one useful feature: it deletes itself.

Getting Logic to ignore .caf files in the loop browser?

I don't even know if this is possible. I've installed Logic 7 on my laptop that also has GB '08. I want to keep GB, but I don't want all of those .caf files in my Logic loop browser. Is there a way to get rid of them from the browser without moving or deleting them so I can still use them in GB?

Moving files in Content and Structure View hangs on Long Running Operation Status window

Hello,
I have the following issue in a site collection: when I go to site content and structure and browse to a document library, and I select multiple documents, click actions --> move and give the target destination, the screen keeps hanging in LongRunningOperationProgress.aspx
with the message "starting" and the running circle. The files do get moved, but the screen does not come back.
In other site collections this works as normal, and when the LongRunningOperationProgress.aspx page is open, it also states (n of N files moved) or something similar. This status is missing in the faulty site collection.
When I open https:\\<site collection url>\Long%20Running%20Operation%20Status\AllItems.aspx I see that an entry is created here with title "(no title)" and Status "NotStarted".
I have included the ULS log, filtered on the thread ID. I am sure there are some clues there (like Invalid text value. A text field contains invalid data. Please check the value and try again.<nativehr>0x81020018</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>),
but I can't figure out where to start solving this problem. The Windows event logs don't give any errors. This issue exists on both web front ends (tested locally). The farm is using 14.0.6106.5002.
