File.getDirectoryListing() order?

Anyone know if there's any order associated with getDirectoryListing()? I have a need to always grab the latest image from a folder. It looks like getDirectoryListing() always places the latest file last in the array it returns, but I'd like to verify if possible.
Thoughts?

Are you sure? Mine returns in ASCII order
You can sort the resulting Array by date so it doesn't really matter, right?

Photos don't show up in file name order on the iPad. Is there a way to do it?

Apparently from reading other forum posts Apple iPad sorts photos by the date stamp.
Clearly this is not suitable or feasable for people with large photo collections. Currently only people with Apple OS (iPhoto can create a sort order).. The rest of us with Windows based systems are left high & dry.
Does anyone know how to report a bug / problem to Apple ? They have no way of contacting them via email.
They need to have the sorting option in iTunes or within the iPad software itself... ie. Allow sorting by file name, etc.

How to Get Albums in File-Name-Order Photo

When I updated my iPod Touch to V4.0 and iTunes (V9 on Windows XP) re-synced it, I found that my photo albums were now in Picture Date order rather than PC file name order. I tried several things that didn't work.
What worked was using the Photoshop Essentials Organizer to change the picture date on all the photos in an album to the same date and time (this can be done to all selected photos in one operation).
I did the sync in two steps. First I moved the album out of the iTunes photos directory and then synced my iPod which deleted the album. Then I moved it back and re-synced.
Does anyone know of an easier trick? I’ve already submitted a feedback item to Apple that they should make file-name-order an option in iTunes

The trick that I used is to append the URL with the name of the file. So if your url is "http://domain.com/attach", use "http://domain.com/attach/filename.doc". IE and Netscape parse the URL to determine what the filename is, so by placing this text at the end, you essentially let the browsers know what the filename is. :)

When I go to import, the choices are :
movies
camera archive
imovie for IOS
imovie for HD
It refuses to import a photo with any of these choices, which is located on the desktop or in a folder. It's a regular .jpg
There are instructions to drag it. I put it there, and it bounces right back. The photo will not stay.
I just need this one picture to go on so I can post a meditation on youtube. It doesn't come from a camera.

My problem is that: I created a Serializable class in a project. And I added this project (first project) to another project (second project). First project is appearing in the second project' s Libraries folder. No problem. I want to create a jar file from second project. i.e. I want to Build second project (I use NetBeans IDE). I am using Build Main Project tab under Run. It is falling out. I am finding it second project' s jar file under its folder. I am clicking on it. But it is NOT WORKING. Do you know WHY. Could you help me please?

No not automatically.
You can p-lace them into an album and then choose Album Order from the dropdown menu and they will remain fixed.

I have made folders available for viewing and I've also imported some actual JPEG files to the iPad using iTunes. Try as I might, I cannot get these files to display in file name order (they are all named by date and time). Is there a way?

Not using the built in photos app. You'll need to search for a third party app. I'm afraid I don't have any to recommend because I've never looked for any, but the default for the built in app is to sort by date/event.

Bear in mind that the files will ALSO be in Windows or Mac's recent document list, and even if they weren't, the files will still be around and available. If they are not available, then just the name may not be much of a security bit (unless the file is called my_secret_bid_for_ibm.pdf or some such).

Renaming and renumbering files in order of selection

Lets say I have 99 frames I want to rename in a project (which may have more pictures). I want to rename them in order they were shot and that's how they're displayed. I'm using Batch Change and using a Version Name Format which I created <Custom Name><Counter>. The counter is reset to 01 and is using a two digits. The result should be 99 frames renamed (including originals) to ABC01 through to ABC99.
I select the first frame in the sequence, hold shift and click on the last. I now have 99 frames selected and use the Batch Change.
The result is the sequence ABC01, ABC03, ABC04 ... ABC98, ABC99, ABC02
Which is clearly wrong and another reason I tend not to trust Aperture and usually use Photo Mechanic for metadata input.
So I have to clear the numbers by changing then to some other sequence and try again. And then usually it works as expected. Sometimes.
Is there something wrong with the way I'm expecting Aperture to select files in order?

Of course, I've just renamed a couple more batches and they worked fine... But it is something I've had happen more than once before.
No stacks or anything I can see that might cause this.
I had thought it was something to do with the "most selected" frame.
But here's somethng, I just selected a nunber of frames starting from the last then shift-clicked on the first. And they were re-numbered in reverse order. So Aperture is never/not always going to rename files in the order you see them in the Browser. So somewhere I'm getting a frame 'out of order' by reselecting it or making it the most selected or something...?
Would you expect a set of frames to be renamed in reverse order as just happened to me?

Opening files in order

Is there any way to open files in order from within the list view. I understand that if I open items in file>open or open them from the column view they will open in order. Working in Column View does not allow me to sort by kind as far as I can tell, which is sort of limiting in my workflow.
The main reason for this is that when I'm shooting with my camera for jobs, I like to shoot saving in both raw and jpg formats. This way I have a file I can send out in email quickly should I need to plus a raw file. Keeping them in the same folder makes it easier when I'm later editing and removing both versions of the shots.

My workaround for now is to use file>open then navigate back to where I was and enter jpg in the search, it's slow and opens a new can of worms, file>open sends me back to far and navigating back takes up time.
See if this is the Fix for that problem...
In finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".
Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1, and reboot.
If there are none with a one, then delete the original & reboot.
